ELM CITY - Clemon S. Hawley, 86, died Tuesday, February 9, 1999.
He was a retired carpenter, veteran of World War II and member of Elm City Baptist Church.
Funeral, Thursday, 11 a.m., Thomas-Yelverton Funeral Chapel.
Interment, Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
Surviving: wife, Lucille Cobb Hawley; daughters, Joyce Askew and Carolyn Glasgow of Wilson; grandchildren, Michael Glasgow, Lori G. Robbins and Matt Winstead; great-grandchildren, Ashely and Tanner Robbins; sister, Maggie Page of Farmville, VA.
The family will be at the funeral home today 7-8:30 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the Elm City Baptist Church, P.O. Box 667, Elm City 27822.

SARAH L. V. HILL
MCLEANSVILLE - Sarah Love Beasley Hill, 77 of 107 Flemingfield Rd., McLeansville, died Monday, February 8, 1999, at the Moses H. Cone Hospital in Greensboro.
Mrs. Sarah Hill was born in Columbus County to the late Willie Lyon and Annie Bell Jordan Beasley and was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn "Budge" Hill and brother, Jefferson D. Beasley.
She was retired from Rexham Corporation and was a member of the Buchanan Baptist Church, Greensboro.
Surviving: daughters, Jane Bell and husband, Arland of Havelock, June Ridge and husband, Ronald of Greensboro and Lillie "Susie" Hill Donnell and husband, John of Greensboro; sister, Dorothy Beasley Powell of Hallsboro; brother, William Allen "W.A." Beasley of Waxhaw; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
Services will be Friday, February 12, 1999, at 1:00 p.m. at the McKenzie Mortuary Chapel in Whiteville with Rev. Alfred "Gene" Lawhorne officiating with burial following in the Columbus Memorial Park.
Visitation will be Thursday night, February 11, 1999, at McKenzie Mortuary from 7-9 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the Buchanan Baptist Church, 301 Buchanan Church Road, Greensboro, N.C. 27405 or Hospice Unit of Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, 1200 N. Elm St., Greensboro, N.C. 27401-1020.

ELIZABETH JONES MANGUM
RALEIGH - Elizabeth Jones Mangum, of 500 E. Hargett St. Apt. 1320, died Saturday, February 6, 1999.
Funeral service to be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, February 11, at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 7215 Six Forks Road.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
She is survived by three sisters,, Bernice Anderson of Raleigh, Rebecca Guyton of Philadelphia, Pa., Myrtle Hudson of Adelphia, Md.; brother, Ernest Jones of Raleigh; several nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends.
Visitation will be at the church, 12-1 p.m. Thursday.

ASHLEY S. MATKINS
FUQUAY-VARINA - Ashley Shay Matkins, 11, died Saturday, February 6, 1999.
Memorial service 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 10, 1999 at Thomas Funeral Home Chapel.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
Surviving: parents, John and Jeanene Matkins; sister, Laurel Matkins of the home; maternal grandparents, Bill and Jean Lewis of Chocowinity; paternal grandparents, Garland and Ruby Matkins of Washington; several aunts and uncles.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Ashley Matkins to the Duke Cystic Fibrosis Center, Box 2994, DUMC, Durham, N.C. 27710.

MARION B. McGEE
GOLDSBORO - Marion Breakspear McGee, 63, of 1714 Rose Street, died Monday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
A native of England, she was the daughter of the late George Albert and Hilda Bush Breakspear.
She attended Seymour Johnson Air Force Base Chapel.
Mrs. McGee was retired from Belk with 20 years of service.
Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday from Seymour Johnson Air Force Base Chapel with Chaplain Smith, Chaplain Bottoms and Rev. Charles Moseley officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
She is survived by her husband, Wade McGee; daughter and son-in-law, Michele and Michael Spencer of Cary; sons and daughter-in-law, Darren and Theresa McGee and Stephen McGee, all of Goldsboro; sisters, Margaret Eagles of Swindon, England, Joan Peapell and Dorothy Brown of Highworth, England; four grandchildren, Nicholas McGee, Ashton McGee, Morgan Spencer and Marley Spencer.
Memorials may be made to Cander & Leukemia group B, 208 LaSalle St., Suite 2000, Chicago IL 60604-1104.

PAULINE C. NALL
SEAGROVE - Pauline Cagle Nall, 71, of 108 Callicutt Road, died at her home on Monday, February 8, 1999.
Mrs. Nall was a native of Moore County, homemaker and a member of Dover Baptist Church.
Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 11, 1999 at Dover Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Davis, Rev. Mike Holyfield and the Rev. Lonnie Gibson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving: son, Jimmy Nall of Plymouth; daughters, Sandra Nall Davis of Star, Beverly Nall Mabe of Raleigh and Janice Nall Phillips of Goldston; brothers, C.R. Cagle and Ronald Cagle both of Seagrove; sisters, Betty Chriscoe of Seagrove, Lula Davis and Mitchel Dunn both of Star; six grandchildren; one great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends, 7-9 p.m. today at Phillips Funeral Home.

ANNIE MAE SMITH
APR. 29, 1914 - FEB. 7, 1999
FUQUAY-VARINA - Annie Mae Smith, 84, of 103-B Youngwood Road, died Sunday
Funeral 2 p.m. Thursday at Bryan-Lee Chapel, Garner.
Burial, Raleigh Memorial Park.
Visitation Wednesday 7-9 p.m. and at other times at the home of Margaret Brady, 103-A Decker Drive, Fuquay Varina and Ethel B. Bridges, 827A Delta Street, Garner.

ANTHONY A. SPADARO
CARY - Anthony A. Spadaro, 83, of Cary died Monday, February 8, 1999. Mr. Spadaro retired from Burroughs Welcome with thirty two years of service.
Mr. Spadaro is survived by his wife, Jane E. Spadaro; sons, Richard Spadaro of Berkly, CA, Kenneth Spadaro of Wilmington, NC; daughters, Gloria Baselice of Scarsdale, NY, Linda Spadaro of Denver, CO; brothers, Joseph Spadaro of Hawaii; sister, Camille Moshey of Rochester, NY; four grandchildren.

DORA FIELDS H. SPIVEY
RALEIGH - Mrs. Dora Fields Hardy Spivey, 89, died Tuesday, February 9, 1999 in Rex Hospital.
Mrs. Spivey was born in Beaufort Co., N.C. on August 28, 1909 the daughter of the late Thomas Lemuel and Frances Elizabeth Foreman Hardy.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Eugene Spivey and also three brothers, Francis S. Hardy, Dallas L. Hardy and Rev. Paul F. Hardy.
Dora and Gene were married on February 4, 1945 and together operated Spivey's Grocery and Market in Raleigh until their retirement.
She was a member of the Edenton Street United Methodist Church.
Surviving are two sisters, Mildred Hardy Doan and Eula Hardy Harris, both of Wendell; one brother, Wright Lupton Hardy and wife, Jane of Raleigh; also surviving are many loving nieces, nephews and friends, especially Avis Vick and Hilda Godwin.
Funeral services will be conducted 12 noon Thursday, February 11, 1999 in the Mitchell Funeral Home, St. Mary's Street Chapel.
Interment will follow in Montlawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 11-12 noon Thursday at Mitchell Funeral Home, 600 St. Mary's Street, Raleigh, N.C.
Mrs. Spivey's family wishes to express their sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff at Mayview Convalescent Center for the loving care and attention given her during the last two years. Your concern for her and her family will not soon be forgotten.

SALLY K. TEAL
ROCKINGHAM - Sally Kate Teal, 83 of 112 Rogosin St. died Monday, February 8, 1999 at her residence.
She was born in Richmond County July 5, 1915 the daughter of the late Ralph Benoy Sr. and Rosa Lee Sanford.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, February 11, 1999 at 11 a.m. at Heritage Baptist Church of which she was a lifelong member with the Rev. Jerry Turner and Rev. Larry Coleman officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Beulah Baptist Church cemetery in Wadesboro.
She is preceded in death by her husband R.P. Teal; daughter, Sandra Lucille Teal.
Mrs. Teal was retired from the textile industry. She also was a member of the Golden Age Senior Band for Cobb Memorial Church.
She was a life long server of God and giver of love and dedicated to her family.
She is survived by her sons: Kenneth Teal of Easly, SC, Johnny Teal of Raleigh; daughters, Jane T. Swing of Laurinburg, Joyce Guthrie of Bakersville, NC, Helen Powell of Rockingham, Kathy Steadman of Statesville; brother, Howard Benoy of Albemarle; sisters, Sudie Dawkins of Theodore, AL, Reba Maske of Rockingham; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. at Watson-King Funeral Home.

PEGGY MAE ADAMS TUCKER
RALEIGH - Peggy Mae Adams Tucker, 58, of 1632 Montrose Street, died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 1999.
Mrs. Tucker was born in Wake County to the late David Mack and Martha Magdalene Holt Adams.
A son, Linwood Cherry III and a daughter, Cindy Marie Cherry preceded her in death.
A memorial service will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday at Montlawn Funeral Home Chapel, 2911 South Wilmington Street.
The family will greet friends from 12-2 p.m. prior to the service.
Surviving are her daughters, Sheila Ann Deans Clark of Roxboro, Rita Ann Clark of Orlando, Fla., Debra K. Cherry of Cary, Peggy Carol Wallace of Raleigh; sons, David T. Tucker of Raleigh, Alfred Junior Tucker Jr. of Willow Springs; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
In lieu of flowers, family wishes donations be made to Hospice of Wake County, 1300 St. Mary's Street, Raleigh, N.C. 27605.

EARL CHARLES ALEXANDER
RALEIGH - Earl Charles Alexander of 2308 Shoveller Court, died on Thursday. Visitation will be held Saturday from 2-5 p.m. at Lea Funeral Home. The Funeral is scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 405 Miller Street, Brooklyn, NY.
Survivors include: daughter, Cheryl Tillman of Raleigh; stepdaughter, Marilyn "Cookie" Utley of MD; sons, Anthony Alexander of Raleigh and Earl Phillip Alexander of Knightdale; stepsons, Earl R. Utley of Far Rockway, NY, Wayman Utley of Queens, NY, Dourwood Utley of Denver, CO, Kirk Utley of Staten Island, NY, and Rodney Utley of Phoenix, AZ; sister, Ruthie Alexander of Brooklyn, NY; brothers, John Alexander and Tyrone Alexander both of Brooklyn, NY; three grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.

JAMES ERNEST MEEKINS
RALEIGH - Mr. James Ernest Meekins, 34, died Thursday, Feb. 25, 1999. Funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 28, 1999 at New Hope United Methodist Church, Rowland. Burial, Salem Burial Grounds.
Surviving: mother, Roena E. DuBois of New York; stepfather, William DuBois; sisters, Natalie and Tiffany DuBois, both of New York; a host of other relatives and friends.
A viewing will be held at Jackson Funeral Home chapel, Rowland, Sat. 2/27/99 from 6-8 p.m.
An additional Memorial service will be held 6-8 p.m. Sat., March 6, 1999 at the residence of Cynthia Currie, 7404 Deer Track Dr., Raleigh.

CLARA MATTHEWS BALLENTINE
NOV. 16, 1915-FEB. 21, 1999
RALEIGH - Mrs. Clara M. Ballentine, of 4209 Tryon Road, died Sunday, February 21, 1999 at Rex Hospital. She was born and raised in Raleigh, Wake County, Raleigh, N.C. She was the daughter of the late Mrs. Ella Matthews Fletcher.
A woman who deeply loved and was loved by her family, is survived by three sons, Arthur Ballentine (Helen), Louis Ballentine (Kate) and Rufus Ballentine (Shirley); a sister, Clydia Hill; two brothers, Alton and Dallas Matthews.
A memorial service will be held 7 p.m. Friday, February 26, and the funeral service will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, February 27. Both services will be held at Watts Chapel Baptist Church, 3703 Tryon Road, Raleigh, N.C. Burial follows at Carolina Biblical Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be given to Clara Ballentine Scholarship Fund, c/o Watts Chapel Baptist Church.
