Grace Stike
Mrs. Grace Gentry Stike, age 79 of Lansing, NC died Wednesday, June 11, 2008 at Watauga Medical Center. Mrs. Stike was born July 16, 1928 in Ashe County to the late Will and Dell Gentry. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband: Worth Stike, her son; Harold Stike and great-granddaughter; Tia Pennington. Mrs. Stike loved to read, quilt and go to yard sales.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, June 13, 2008 at the Oak Hill Baptist Church cemetery by Rev. Garret Mahaffey and Rev. Lloyd Day.

2 daughters: Janet Thompson and husband Randle of Mouth of Wilson, VA and Tammy Pennington and husband Bobby of Lansing

5 grandchildren: Lisa Pennington, Sherry Stike, Jennifer Billing, Tristan Matkins & Tisha McPeak, 10 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive.

Lane Massey
Mr. Lane Massey age 75 of Crumpler, NC, died Monday, June 9, 2008 at his home. Mr. Massey was born November 3, 1932 in Ashe County to the late Arthur and Rebecca Blevins Massey. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife, Lula Bell Massey.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, June 13, 2008 at Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Elder Bobby Absher. Burial will follow in the Parsons cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 - 9:00 PM Thursday at Badger Funeral Home.

Rev. David Lambert
Rev. David Lee Lambert age 53, of West Jefferson, NC died Saturday, June 7, 2008 at his home. Rev. Lambert was born July 24, 1954 in Ashe County to the late William and Blanche Mullis Lambert. Rev. Lambert was a faithful member of Friendship Baptist Church. He was a former pastor of Calvary Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 10, 1008 at 2:00 PM at Friendship Baptist Church with the Rev. Darryl Giles, Rev. Lloyd Day, and Rev. Herbert Parunak officiating. Burial will follow in the West Jefferson City cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6:00-8:00 at Badger Funeral Home.

Marvin "Dugon" Claycomb
Mr. Marvin Evertt Claycomb better know as Dewgin, age 83 of West Jefferson, died Friday, June 6, 2008 at his home. Mr. Claycomb was born in Natrona County, WY on October 13, 1924 to the late William Evertt and Marie Evans Claycomb. He was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church. He was very talented in wood carving and also at painting. He served his country during World War II where he was a member of the US Navy.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 9, 2008 at 2pm at Bethany United Methodist church by Rev. Lewis Poag. Entombment will follow in ashelawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum of Prayer with military rites.
The family will receive friends from 1-2pm prior to the service Monday, June 9, 2008 at the church.
Mr. Claycomb is survived by, his wife of 63 years, Willa Mae Miller Claycomb of the home, one son, William Claycomb of Kennett Square, PA, one brother, Robert Claycomb of Cody, WY, three grandchildren, William Evertt Claycomb, Mark Allen Claycomb, Jennifer Lynn Calderon, six great-grandchildren, Katelyn Claycomb, Crystal Claycomb, Mark Claycomb, Jr., Zachary Claycomb, Joshua Calderon, Katarina Calderon, several nieces and nephews also survive.

Mrs. Eula Mae Harris Sullins, age 71 of Lansing, NC died Thursday, June 5, 2008 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Sullins was born October 21, 1936 in Roanoke, VA to the late John and Nellie Blevins Harris. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband; Willard Sullins and son; Troy Sullins.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, June 8, 2008 at 2:00 PM at Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Mitchell McCoy. Burial will follow in the Howell Hill cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Saturday, June 7th at Badger Funeral Home.

Infant Vincent Aparicio of Jefferson died Friday, May 30, 2008 at Watauga Medical Center. Alysia Barr
Mrs. Alysia Lewis Barr, age 92 of Lansing, NC died Sunday, June 1, 2008 at Segraves Care Center. Mrs. Barr was born October 10, 1915 to the late David and Margaret Ham Lewis. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband; William Howard Barr, daughter; Mildred 'Micky' June Driver, Sister; Artie Brinkley, brothers; Conley, Wiley, Cecil and Wade Lewis.
Funeral services will be held at 8:00 PM, Wednesday, June 4, 2008 at Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Larry Shepherd and Rev. Dan Hess. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 PM prior to the service.

Evelyn Lucille Howell Wetzel
Mrs. Evelyn Lucille Howell Wetzel age 59 of Jefferson died Saturday, May 24, 2008 at Segraves Care Center.
Mrs. Wetzel was born in Todd, NC on April 27, 1949 to the late James Russell Howell and Sarah Miller Howell. She was an active member of the Parish of the Holy Communion and was a member of the ECW (Episcopal Church Women). Evelyn had a very special place in her heart for children and taught Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten at Blue Ridge Elementary School. She loved to garden, read, canoe and was a great lover of animals.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 30, 2008 at 1:00pm at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Glendale Springs with Father Stephen Miller officiating. Interment will follow in Holy Trinity cemetery.
The family will receive friends following the service in the Mission House.
Mrs. Wetzel is survived by, her husband, Paul Wetzel, one son, Eric Todd Wetzel of Portland, Oregon, one daughter, Emily Elizabeth Wetzel of Wilmington, NC,her mother, Sarah Howell of Todd, one sister, Elizabeth Mellon of Hickory, 1 niece, 1 nephew and several cousins also survive.

Mr. Bryce Franklin Blevins age 84 of West Jefferson, NC, died Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at his home. Mr. Blevins was born May 31, 1923 in Ashe County to the late Mitch and Hattie Pennington Blevins. Mr. Blevins was member of Obids Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, May 23, 2008 at Obids Baptist Church by Rev. Tom Graybeal. Burial will follow in Low Gap cemetery. Mr. Blevins will lie in state from 10:00 - 11:00 AM prior to the service.

Ruth Craven
Mrs. Ruth Stansberry Craven, age 84 of Jefferson, NC, died Monday, May 19, 2008 at Las Vegas Creekside Hospice. Mrs. Craven was born March 29, 1924 in Ashe County to the late Wade and Rettie Miller Stansberry. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband; Rex Craven, son; Steven Dunn, brothers; Jack and Vaughn Stansberry.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2008 at 2:00 PM at the Peak Creek Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow in the Baugess cemetery.

Heywood Barden Jr.
Dr. Heywood L. Barden, Jr., better known as Hank, of Jefferson died Saturday, May 17, 2008 at Watauga Medical Center in Boone, NC.
Dr. Barden was born in Wilmington, NC on March 20, 1943 to the late Heywood Lamb Barden Sr. and Juanita Pierce Barden. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Wilmington, and Jefferson United Methodist Church. He attended UNC Chapel Hill where he was the Co-captain of the football team. After completion of dental school at Carolina in 1974, he began his practice of family dentistry in Wilmington. Hank was an avid sailor, pilot, loved to sing, but most of all he loved his family and grandchildren. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by one son Heywood Lamb Barden III.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 22, 2008 at 4pm at Jefferson United Methodist Church by the Rev. Dr. Keith Franklin.
A memorial service will also be held Thursday, May 29, 2008 at First Presbyterian Church in Wilmington, NC by the Rev. Dr. Ernest T. Thompson III. The family will receive friends at the church in Gilmore Hall following the memorial service.
Dr. Barden is survived by, his wife Barbara "Bobbie" Hayes Barden, two sons: Pierce Barden and wife Courtney and Chris Barden and wife Mande both of Wilmington, NC. His three grandchildren, Alec, Reid and Hunter also survive.

Mrs. Ruby Badger Carter age 95 of Lansing the Bear Wallow Road died Saturday, May 3, 2008 at Segraves Nursing Care Center. Mrs. Carter was born April 9, 1913 in Ashe County to the late William and Cora Thompson Badger. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband, Mathus Carter.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at 2:00 PM at Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Jim Francis. Burial will follow in the Perry cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Tuesday, May 6th at Badger Funeral Home.
