HENDERSON -- Delilah Comer of St. Louis, formerly of Vance County, has died.
Arrangements will be announced by Garnes Funeral Services.

Annie M. Forte

CREEDMOOR -- Annie M. Forte, 86, of 1694 Highway 56 West died Tuesday, June 29, 2001, at her residence. Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Home in Oxford.

Ephraim Martin

HENDERSON -- Ephraim Martin, 88, of 604 East Ave. died Monday, June 18, 2001, at the Guardian Care Nursing Center.
Arrangements will be announced by Garnes Funeral Services.

Edward G. McFall

HENDERSON -- Edward Gray McFall, 72, a resident of 910 Buckhorn St., died Monday, June 18, 2001, at Duke University Medical Center. He was a native of Vance County and was the son of the late Fred and Lucy Pernell McFall. He was retired from the U.S. Navy, where he served in the Korean conflict and Vietnam, and he was retired from Revlon. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church.
Memorial services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church by Father J. William Long.
He is survived by his wife, Theresa Sutkowski McFall; one daughter, Patricia M. Currin of Coats; two sons, Paul Edward McFall of Atlanta and Edward Gray McFall Jr. of Greenville, Va.; three brothers, Earl McFall, Murel McFall and Furman McFall, all of Henderson; two sisters, Marie M. Wells of Henderson and Ann M. Harris of Hendersonville; and one grandchild.
The family will receive friends at the home on Buckhorn Street.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society c/o Frances Polston, 1611 Parker Lane, Henderson, N.C. 27536.
Arrangements are being handled by the J.M. White Funeral Home.

Edna E.B. Boone

STEM -- Edna Earle Breedlove Boone, 80, of 1102 Fate Washington Road died Tuesday, June 19, 2001, at her residence. She was a Granville County native and the daughter of the late Lewis G. and Ola Bell Tunstall Harris.
She was a member of Butner First Baptist Church and a retired cosmetologist at John Umstead Hospital in Butner.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday at Butner First Baptist Church by Dr. Gene Garrison. Burial will follow in Carolina Memorial Gardens in Creedmoor.
Surviving are her husband, James Willard Boone; two daughters, Barbara B. Crews of Butner and Nancy B. Horton of Chapel Hill; one brother, L. Graham Harris Jr. of Oxford; one stepson, Douglas Boone of Butner; one stepdaughter, Jane Rumph of Cheraw, S.C.; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband Nelson T. Breedlove.
Visitation will be held from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Friday at the fellowship hall at Butner First Baptist Church and other times at the home.
Flowers are accepted, or memorials can be made to Butner First Baptist Church, West D Street, Butner, N.C. 27509.
Arrangements are by Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home of Oxford.

Mary Cozart

HENDERSON -- Mary Cozart, 69, died Tuesday, June 19, 2001, at the Oxford Manor nursing home. She was the daughter of the late Norman and Sally Cozart.
She was a member of Mountain Spring Baptist Church, where she served in the choir.
Surviving are two daughters, Sally Cozart Landis and Mary Epps of Oxford; five sons, Willie Cozart and Larry Cozart of Oxford, John Ronnie Cozart and Edward Cozart of Jacksonville, Fla., and Larry Campbell of New Jersey; two sisters, Shirley Dunston of Rocky Mount and Sadie B. Cozart of Oxford; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Mountain Spring Baptist Church by the Rev. George Bullock. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. today at Betts & Son Funeral Home and other times at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Otis and Sally Landis, 4097 Charie Harris Road in Oxford.
Arrangements are by Betts & Son Funeral Home.

Dorothy Davis

WARRENTON -- Dorothy Davis of the Olive Grove community died Tuesday, June 19, 2001, at Halifax Regional Hospital in Roanoke Rapids.
Arrangements will be announced by R.H. Greene Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Samuel B. Dickerson

HENDERSON -- Samuel Bruce Dickerson, 58, of 5973 Satterwhite Point Road died Monday, June 18, 2001, at his home. He was a Warren County native and the son of the late Ernest and Lilly Belle Dickerson.
He was a former employee of Roses Stores. He was a member of Westwood Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Sunset Gardens by the Rev. William Wagner.
Surviving are a son, Samuel Wayne Dickerson of Henderson; three sisters, Mary D. Ayscue and Blanche D. Faulkner, both of Alert, and Annie D. Pendergrass of Henderson; a brother, Robert Lee Dickerson of Alert; and three grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the home of Samuel Wayne Dickerson, 321 Buckskin Lane, Henderson.
Arrangements are by Flowers Funeral Home.

Annie M. Forte

CREEDMOOR -- Annie M. Forte, 86, of 1694 Highway 56 West, died Tuesday, June 19, 2001, at her residence. She was a Johnston County native.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at Greenfield Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Surviving are three daughters, Mollie Ann Chavis of the home and Alice Irene Davis and Bernice Applewhite, both of Goldsboro; one son, George Forte Jr. of Durham; a foster son, Will Henry Chavis of Tampa, Fla.; one sister, Roberta Pittman of Enfield; five brothers, O’dell Scott of Durham, Louis Scott of Corona, N.Y., Arthur Scott of the Bronx, N.Y., Chester Scott of New York City and James Warren of Baltimore; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at Wright Funeral Home in Oxford.
Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Home of Oxford.

Mamie B. Grissom

OXFORD -- Mamie Beal Grissom, 88, of 412 Broad St. died Tuesday, June 19, 2001, at Duke University Medical Center. She was a Granville County native, the daughter of the late John and Nancy Faucette Beal and the widow of Cullom C. Grissom.
She was a member of Stovall Baptist Church and a homemaker.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Stovall Memorial cemetery by the Rev. Cecil Newton.
Surviving are a son, J.T. Grissom of Oxford, and three grandchildren.
Visitation will follow the graveside services.
Arrangements are by Eakes Funeral Home of Oxford.

S. Hunter Harris

OXFORD -- S. Hunter Harris, 90, of 4523 Shock Overton Road died Wednesday, June 20, 2001, at Granville Medical Center. He was a Granville County native and the son of the late Amos F. and Lillie Satterwhite Harris.
He was a member of Providence Baptist Church and a retired farmer.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Providence Baptist Church by the Rev. Cam Ford. Burial will follow in Providence Baptist Church cemetery.
Surviving are one daughter, Eleanor H. Stovall of Stovall; three sons, Amos H. “A.H.” Harris and Sherwood Harris, both of Oxford, and William Harris of Wilton; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home in Oxford and other times at the home of Amos and Ellen Harris, 4592 Old Route 75, Oxford, N.C. 27565.
Arrangements are by Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home of Oxford.

Thomas S. Rogers Sr.

HENDERSON -- Thomas S. Rogers Sr. of Kittrell died Wednesday, June 20, 2001, at the VA Medical Center in Durham.
The family will be at the home.
Arrangements will be announced by Garnes Funeral Services.

Delilah C. Campbell

ST. LOUIS -- Delilah Comer Campbell, 71, of St. Louis, formerly of Vance County, died Thursday, June 14, 2001, at DePaul Hospital in Bridgeton, Mo. She was the daughter of the late Ivory Comer and Eardie James.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. today at Little Zion Holiness Church by the Revs. Brenda G. Peace and O.T. Perry. Burial will follow in the Blacknall cemetery.
Survivors will be announced at a later time.
Arrangements are by Garnes Funeral Services.

Dorothy C. Davis

WARRENTON -- Dorothy Carter Davis, 69, of the Olive Grove community died Tuesday, June 19, 2001, at Halifax Regional Hospital in Roanoke Rapids.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Olive Grove Baptist Church in Littleton. The Rev. Lawrence Harrison will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are four children, Roscoe Davis Jr., Jacqueline Davis and Lynette Davis, all of Baltimore, and Aaron Davis of North Carolina; two stepdaughters, Sheila Blount and Elaine Davis, both of Baltimore; and 14 grandchildren.
Arrangements are by R.H. Greene Funeral Service of Warrenton.

Michael M.D. Jones

GREENSBORO -- Michael Monroe Davis Jones, infant son of Andrew L. and Shelva Brawley Jones of Greensboro, died Thursday, June 21, 2001, in Duke University Medical Center.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Sunset Gardens by Dr. Marion D. Lark.
Surviving in addition to his parents are one brother, Cody Jones; three sisters, Stephanie Jones, Brittany Nicole Jones and Cassandra Jones, all of the home; his maternal grandparents, Wilbur M. and Shelva Jean Brawley Jr. of Wilmington; his paternal grandmother, Judith M. Davis, and her husband, Cliff, of Lexington; and his paternal grandfather, H. Mike Jones, and his wife, Rebecca, of Henderson.
J.M. White Funeral Home is in charge of the services.

Ephraim Martin Jr.

HENDERSON -- Ephraim “E.C.” Martin Jr., 88, of 604 East Ave. died Monday, June 18, 2001, at the Guardian Care nursing facility. He was a Vance County native and the son of the late Susie Southerland Martin and Ephraim Martin Sr. He was the widower of Lizzie Thorpe Martin.
He was a member of Big Ruin Creek Baptist Church and a member of the New Bethel Quartet for 26 years, during which he sang tenor. He also was a former employee of Burkart Industries.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at New Bethel Baptist Church by the Revs. Haywood Foster and Jamil Crosson. Burial will follow in the Dickies Grove Baptist Church cemetery.
Surviving are two daughters, Earline Martin of the home and Marie Branch of Gillburg; one son, James T. Martin of Henderson; 17 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the home.
Pallbearers will be grandsons. Floral bearers will be granddaughters.
Arrangements are by Garnes Funeral Services.

Mary Nicholson

HENDERSON -- Mary Liza H. Nicholson, formerly of 521 Arch St., Henderson, died Thursday, June 21, 2001.

Jeffrey L. Steed

HENDERSON -- Jeffrey Lynn Steed, 45, of 902 Bridges St. died Monday, June 18, 2001, in Oxford Manor Nursing Care. He was a native of Brooklyn, N.Y., and the son of the late Willie James and Cereas Baskett Steed.
He attended Vance County Schools and North Carolina A&T State University. He was a collections supervisor for Maryland Cable Co.
He was a member of Coley Spring Missionary Baptist Church, where he was on the usher board.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Coley Spring Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. Carlson Jones Sr. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are one son, Jeffrey Lynn Steed Jr. of Maryland; one brother, Trevor Steed of Washington, D.C.; and one stepbrother, Bobby Scott of Durham.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Viewing will be held at the church one hour before the service.
Arrangements are by Mary Davis-Royster Funeral Services.

Deloris Wright

HENDERSON -- Deloris Wright, 46, of 54 Acorn Lane died Thursday, June 21, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital.
Arrangements will be announced by Garnes Funeral Services.

Mary L.H. Nicholson

HENDERSON -- Mary Liza Hargrove Nicholson of Henderson died Thursday, June 21, 2001, at Evergreen Nursing Center in Greensboro.
The body will be viewed Sunday at E.C. Terry’s Funeral Service.

Thomas S. Rogers Sr.

HENDERSON -- Thomas Samuel Rogers Sr., 78, of Kittrell died Wednesday, June 20, 2001, at the VA Hospital in Durham. He was a Vance County native and the son of the late George Clifton Rogers and Esther Burwell Rogers. He was the stepson of the late Beulah Reavis Rogers.
He was a member of Kittrell First Baptist Church, where he served on the deacon board for many years. He also served as chairman of the trustee board, superintendent of the Sunday school for 30 years, janitor and caretaker of the church for 34 years.
He was educated in Vance County public schools and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion and Vance County Baptist Sunday School Convention. He also attended the Vance County Training Institute. He was a licensed brick mason.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Kittrell First Baptist Church by the Revs. James R. Fogg, McArthur Clemons, William Garner and Norris Trice. Burial will follow in the Kittrell First Baptist Church Memorial Gardens.
Surviving are his wife, Clara H. Rogers; three sons, Thomas Rogers of the home, William Rogers of Henderson and Stephen Rogers of Culpeper, Va.; one daughter, Estherose R. Faucette of Henderson; eight sisters, Alice Boyd of Louisburg, Annie Turner of Washington, D.C., Geneva Suitt of Creedmoor, Ethel Armstead, Marcelene Rollins and Mozelle Carter, all of Baltimore, Helen Williams of Henderson and Shirley Fleming of Raleigh; one stepsister, Hazel Kirkland of Mount Vernon, N.Y.; two brothers, Dr. Christopher Rogers of Las Vegas and Morris Rogers of Mount Vernon, N.Y.; and 10 grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 p.m. until the time of the service and all other times at the home.
Pallbearers will be Herbert Rogers, Eric Burwell, Joseph Brandon, Robert Burwell, Clarence Hicks Jr. and Johnny Brandon. Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of Kittrell First Baptist Church and members of American Legion Post 176.
Floral bearers will be Cynthia B. Alston, Zephia B. Ragland, Odessa R. Williams, Patricia Burwell, Minda B. Williams, Joyce B. Hayes and Denise R. Davis. Honorary floral bearers will be missionaries of Kittrell First Baptist Church.
Arrangements are by Garnes Funeral Services.

Walter Williams

WARRENTON -- Walter Williams, 68, of Jamaica, N.Y., formerly of Warrenton, died Monday, June 18, 2001, in Flushing, N.Y.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Jerusalem Baptist Church in Warrenton by the Rev. Washington L. Lundy. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Lucy Ann Williams; three daughters, Dorothy Irene Williams of Springfield, Colo., Tracy Renee Williams of Springfield Gardens, N.Y., and Tonya Bernice Easter of St. Louis, Miss.; two sons, Samuel Williams of Warrenton and Lester Glen Williams of Beaufort, S.C.; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his mother, Dorothy B. Williams of Warrenton; four sisters, Addie Grace Jones, Lucy Lee Dunlap, Katie Bell Williams and Catherine Williams, all of Warrenton; and two brothers, the Rev. Benjamin Williams of Hilton Head, S.C., and Preston Williams of Brooklyn, N.Y.
The body will be on view from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Boyd’s Funeral Services Chapel in Warrenton and until taken to the church one hour before the services Sunday.
Arrangements are by Boyd’s Funeral Services of Warrenton.
