Lyle W. Otteson, 59, Kansas City, Mo. and formerly of Enderlin, died July 21, 2000 in a Minneapolis hospital. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at North Dakota Veterans' Cemetery, rural Mandan. He is survived by his wife, Holly, Kansas City; one son, Kip, Pt. Lay, Alaska; his daughters, Tracey Leyvas, Aliso Viejo, Calif., Joelle Thompson, Aliso Viejo; four grandchildren; one sister, Connie Nix, Crystal, Minn.; and one brother, Gordon, Bismarck. Ordean Rude
ZAHL -- Ordean Rude, 78, Zahl, died July 19, 2000 in a Minot hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Grenora High School, with burial in Riverview Cemetery, Williston. He is survived by his wife, DeLaine; five children, Kathy Trogstad, Judy Gafkjen, Cindy Overland, Bob Rude, all of Williston, and Debby Olson, Colstrip, Mont.; three sisters, Marie Holm, Crosby, Orla Sorenson, Dagmar, Mont., and Audrey Ertelt, Phoenix, Ariz.; and one brother, John, Houston, Texas. Ray Schmidt Sr., 64, 3611 42nd St. NW, Mandan, died July 22, 2000 in a Bismarck hospital. Arrangements are pending with Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan.

VELVA -- Patricia Selzler, 63, Velva, died July 21, 2000 in a Minot hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Velva, with burial in Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery. She is survived by one husband, John; one son, John, Lake Crystal, Minn.; her daughters, Jean Haas, Hutchinson, Minn., Mariann Krick and Susan Blair, both of Bismarck, her stepsons, Timothy, Velva, Tom, Bismarck, Tony, Tracy and Ted, all of Velva, Terry, Rugby, and Troy, Grand Forks; her stepdaughters, Deanne Sullivan, LaPorte, Texas, Donna Selzler, Minot, and Robin Bechtold, Bismarck; 33 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; and her sisters, Marge Nostdahl, Burlington, Mary Anderson and Therese Zahn, both of Minot. Delores Steckler
DICKINSON -- Delores Steckler, 63, Dickinson, died July 22, 2000 in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Wednesday, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Dickinson. Further arrangements are pending with Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson.

Carol Lee Chapman
Carol Lee "Bing" Chapman, 68, Bismarck, died July 21, 2000 in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Lord of Life Lutheran Church with the Rev. Jeff Franco officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans' Cemetery, rural Mandan. Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. Tuesday at Eastgate Funeral Service and Wednesday for one hour prior to the service at the church. Carol was born on April 17, 1932 in Brinsmade, the son of Blair and Doris (Hahn) Chapman. He attended school in Minnewaukan, graduating in 1950. He then attended North Dakota State Agricultural College in Fargo for two years before he was drafted into the Army in January of 1953, serving stateside in Maryland until January of 1955. He married Dorothy Jean Mey in May of 1953 in Fargo. Carol then attended the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, graduating in June of 1957 with a Bachelor of Philosophy degree. Upon graduation, he went to work for Crow Wing County Social Services in Brainerd, Minn., for two years. He then went to work for Cass County Social Services in Fargo. He moved on to become Director of Adams County Social Services in Hettinger, for a number of years. Carol then worked in Jamestown, where he was employed with the area office of the State Social Service Board for 12 years. He then moved his family to Bismarck in 1973 and worked at the Capitol building in public assistance for the State of North Dakota. After retiring in 1990, he went on to work at Burleigh County Senior Center for two years. He then returned to his previous work for the State on a part-time basis. Carol was an avid fisherman who volunteered his services at Triangle-Y Fish Camp for 10 years, teaching tomorrow's young fishermen the secrets of fishing. He had two special fishing buddies, Joe Neuenschwander and Bart Fahlgren. Carol is survived by his wife of 47 years, Dorothy; three sons, Bruce, Willow, Alaska, Tim, Bismarck, and Scott, Kalispell, Mont.; one daughter, Lori, Moorhead, Minn.; five grandchildren, Sarah, Molly, Benjamin, Zachary and Gabrielle; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Thomas and Ann, Devils Lake, Larry and Dottie, Brevard, N.C., and Blair Jr. and Marlene, Minnewaukan; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Doris and John Aamunstad, Devils Lake, and Jean Krowel, Belmont, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Blair and Doris Chapman; four nephews and one niece. (Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck)

Wynn R. Edwards
MINOT -- Wynn R. "Shorty" Edwards, 88, Minot, and formerly of Plaza, died July 21, 2000 in a Minot hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Lutheran Church, Plaza, with burial in East Plaza Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Ida; one son, Orlien, Plaza; his daughters, Irene Lee, Jean Crites, Jane Edwards and Janice Keelan, all of Minot; one sister, Adele Bergstrom, Seattle, Wash.; and 13 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. TURTLE LAKE -- Phillip Flemmer, 88, Turtle Lake, died July 23, 2000 in the Turtle Lake hospital. Arrangements are pending with Goetz Funeral Home, Turtle Lake.

Alfred Fruhwirth
CARRINGTON -- Alfred Fruhwirth, 77, Carrington, died July 23, 2000 in the New Rockford nursing home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Carrington. Further arrangements are pending with Evans Funeral Home, Carrington.

Loreta Hewson
DICKINSON -- Loreta Sams Hewson, 67, Mandan, and formerly of Dickinson, died July 22, 2000 in a Bismarck care center. Private family services will be held on Tuesday at Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson. She is survived by two sons, Douglas and Robert Sams, both of Mandan; one daughter, Vernette Wilson, Watford City; her former husband, Vernon Sams, Mandan; and 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Ray Schmidt
Ray Schmidt, Sr., 64, 3611 42nd St. NW, Mandan, died July 22, 2000 in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Spirit of Life Catholic Church, with the Rev. Cyprian Meier officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Tuesday, with a Catholic Daughters Rosary at 4 p.m., a parish vigil at 8 p.m. all at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the service at Spirit of Life Church, Mandan. Raymond was born on March 16, 1936 in Oliver County, the son of Rudolph and Margaret (Boehm) Schmidt. He was raised and educated in Oliver County. On April 13, 1959, he married Yvonne Zander in Crown Butte. Raymond farmed the family homestead running dairy and grain operation. He retired in 1989 due to his health and moved to Mandan that same year. He was a former member of the Moose Club and St. Vincent Verein. His hobbies included playing pool, playing accordian and listening to old time music and enjoyed dancing to that music. He spent time traveling to South Dakota and going to the Medora Musical. In his travels, he enjoyed looking at the land and appreciating the wonders of nature. This kind, hard working and gentle man was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. A high point with family were the special gatherings during the holidays. Ray will be missed by his many friends and his loving family. He is survived by his wife, Yvonne; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Terry and special friend, Candy Roehrich, Bismarck, Raymond M. and Carol, Randy and Jackie, and Jeff, all from Mandan; two daughters and son-in-law, Marsha Strecker and Joanne and Harold Snow, all from Mandan; 13 grandchildren; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Joe and Monica, Center, Frank and Clara, and Simon and Lillian, all from Mandan, and Rudolph and Betty, Bismarck; one sister and brothers-in-law, Helen and Jack Hatzenbuhler, Mandan, Phillip Schmidt, Portland, Ore. He was preceded in death by parents, one brother, Adam; and one sister, Kathryn Schmidt.

Delores Steckler
DICKINSON -- Delores Steckler, 63, Dickinson, died July 22, 2000 in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Wednesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Dickinson, with burial in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Dickinson. She is survived by seven children, Andy Steckler, Las Vegas, Lori Leintz, Bismarck, Garvin Steckler, Las Vegas, Ronnie Steckler, South Heart, Karen Koffler, Jody and Sandy Steckler, all of Dickinson; two sisters, Agnes Steckler, Dickinson, and Johanna Weyand, South Dakota; four brothers, Lawrence, LeRoy, Wendelin and Alvin Linderman, all of South Dakota; 18 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Harley Peter Wanner
Harley Peter Wanner, 20, 201 Arbor Ave., Bismarck, died July 22, 2000 as a result of an automobile accident. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Stephen Zastoupil officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, and will continue Wednesday one hour before the service at the Church. A parish vigil will be held 7 p.m. Tuesday at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan. Harley was born Aug. 2, 1979 at Dickinson, to Harlan Wanner and Deborah Westrum. He was raised and educated in Dickinson and graduated from Century High School in Bismarck in 19 . He has been employed at Dakota Ready Mix of Bismarck for the past four years. One can describe Harley as outgoing finding it easy to make new friends. His love of life came through as a spectator and participant of sports. While in high school he played football, basketball, baseball and track. He took pride in the accomplishments of his friends. He found time to watch his friend at the race track. Family was important making time for his aunts, uncles and visiting his grandparents. Watching the Bismarck Blaze indoor football as an active and avid fan. His community of family and friends have these and many memories to cherish. He survived by his father, Harlan Wanner, Mandan; his mother, Debbie Frank, Bismarck; his stepfather, Jeff Frank, Bismarck; his stepmother, Pam Wanner, Mandan; his grandmother, Gloria Wanner, Dickinson; his step-grandparents, Richard and Carolyn Bullinger, Bismarck, Ernie and Eileen Frank, Dickinson, his step-great-grandparents, Tillie Schmalz, Jenny Frenzel, both of Dickinson, George Leingang, Mandan; one brother, Joshua Wanner, Bismarck; his sisters, Heather and Hayley Wanner, Bismarck; his girlfriend, Kristi Knodel, Bismarck and expected newborn son, Harley. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Donald and Alice Westrum, Peter J. Wanner and Aunt Donna Frank. (Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan)

Kenzie Wenger
TIOGA -- Kenzie Wenger, 71, Tioga, died July 22, 2000 in a Minot hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Lutheran Church, Tioga. Further arrangements are pending with Fulkerson Funeral Home, Tioga.

Emma Blatchford
WASHBURN -- Emma Blatchford, 88, Bismarck, died July 24, 2000, in a Bismarck nursing home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Washburn Baptist Church, with the Rev. Clyde Leimberer officiating. Burial will be in Underwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday at Goetz Funeral Home, Washburn, and will continue at the church one hour before services. Emma Sayler was born Nov. 28, 1911, in Venturia, to Christ and Eva (Bertsch) Sayler. In 1915, the family moved to a farm near Underwood. She married Joseph H. Blatchford, Dec. 12, 1937, at Crookston, Minn. Joseph died in December of 1941. Emma then moved back to Underwood, where she worked as a cook for the Underwood School and the Park Inn Cafe for 18 years. On April 2, 1983, she moved to Bismarck, where she retired. In September 1995, Emma moved to the Bismarck Baptist Home, where she was currently residing. Emma was a charter member of First Baptist Church, Underwood. She is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Lyle, Omaha, Neb., and Gary and Juliet, Washburn; three grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one sister, Lorraine Crouch, Chicago.

Betty L. Ehli
Betty L. Ehli, 59, Fulton, N.Y., formerly of Bismarck, died July 16, 2000, in her home after a short illness. Memorial services were held July 19 at Holy Family Church, Fulton. She is survived by her husband, Joseph; two sons, Perry, Walkill, N.Y., and Terry, Oswego, N.Y.; four daughters, Debbie Blunk, Orange Park, Fla., Jodie Bobbett, Fulton, Mary Ehli, Fulton, and Cris Snyder, Oswego; three brothers, Robert, California, and Fran and Erv, both of Bismarck; and seven grandchildren. Karl E. Fischer
HAGUE -- Karl E. Fischer died in his home in Edina, Minnesota, on July 22, 2000. He was formerly of Hague. He is survived by his three daughters, Verna Green, Doris Bakken and Olivia Wakely; and six grandchildren.

TURTLE LAKE -- Philip Flemmer, 88, Turtle Lake, died July 23, 2000, in the Turtle Lake hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Turtle Lake, with burial in Turtle Lake Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Hilda; two sons, Meinhardt, Grand Island, Neb., and Garry, Turtle Lake; four granddaughters; three great-grandchildren; four sisters, Esther Wagner, Turtle Lake, Violet Stelter and Lydia Dieber, both of Bismarck, and Marie Gibsen, California; and three brothers, Walter, Turtle Lake, Albert, Minnesota, and Martin, Florida.
