HARVEY -- Esther Palmer, 90, Walla Walla, Wash., formerly of Harvey, died May 3, 2001, in College Place, Wash. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Seventh-day Adventist Church, Harvey, with burial in Hillsdale Lutheran Cemetery, Harvey. She is survived by two daughters, Nancy Stolz, Milton-Freewater, Ore., and Evelyn Dekle, San Antonio, Texas; one sister, Bella Christensen, Harvey; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Hazel Patten
PARSHALL -- Hazel Patten, 91, Parshall, died June 21, 2001, in a Stanley nursing home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Bridget's Catholic Church, Parshall, with burial in Parshall Cemetery. She is survived by one son, Lynn, Parshall; three daughters, Cheryl Holst, New Town, Anne Gustafson, Gresham, Ore., and Deborah Skyberg, DeSmet, S.D.; two sisters, Daisy Chapman, Greybull, Wyo., and Rhoda Huber, Fingal; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Patsy Prince
MCCLUSKY -- Patsy R. Prince, 69, McClusky, died June 6, 2001, in a Hot Springs, Ark. hospital. She was born Jan. 15, 1932, at Bald Knob, Ark. Survivors include her husband, Herb Prince, McClusky; her mother, Mildred (Pauline) Smith, Hot Springs; two sisters, Maxine Crusing, Hot Springs, and Betty Stanton, Tinley Park, Ill.; five sons and four daughters-in-law, Lester and Debbie Storment, Conway, Ark., Michael and Vicky Storment, Mt. Vernon, Ill., Dave and Stephanie Prince, Little Rock Air Force Base, Jon and Donna Prince, Jacksonville, Ark., and Steve Prince, Austin, Ark.; one daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Jerry Moore, Ward, Ark.; nine grandchildren, Wesley and Tamber Storment, Conway, Ark., Ray Lynn and Michael Storment, Mt. Vernon, Catherine, Jacob and Nina Prince, Jacksonville, Ark., Damon Prince, Caddo Gap, Ark., and Katherine Prince, Little Rock Air Force Base; and one great-granddaughter, Krista Storment, Mt. Vernon. Memorial services were held June 23 in Hot Springs,, and a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Grace Lutheran Church, McClusky.

Doris Raveling
WILLISTON -- Doris Raveling, 88, Williston, died June 23, 2001, in the Williston hospital. Services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Williston, with burial in Riverview Cemetery, Williston. She is survived by four daughter, Mary Goebel, Williston, Clarice Schmidt, Billings, Mont., Barbara Moss, Hamlet, and Opal DeVold, Grand Forks; three sons, Clarence, Williston, Donald, Minot, and Henry, LaCentre, Wash.; 37 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren; and 20 great-great-grandchildren. Jordawn Sipe
ARNEGARD -- Jordawn Nichole Sipe, 3, Huntley, Mont., died in an automobile accident June 23, 2001, in Arnegard. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Wilmington Lutheran Church, Arnegard. Further arrangements are pending at Fulkerson Funeral Home, Watford City.

Norma Stafne
HETTINGER -- Norma Lorraine Nelson Stafne, 78, Hettinger, died June 23, 2001, in her home. Private family services will be held at 11 a.m. MDT Saturday at Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Hettinger, with burial in Hettinger Cemetery. She is survived by two daughters, Ardell Nelson, Williston, and Ardyth Jeszenka, Great Falls, Mont.; one son, Kevanell Stafne, Bucyrus; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Monte Swenson
Monte L. Swenson, 52, Bismarck, died June 22, 2001. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Charles Heidt officiating. Military rites will be by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1326 will be at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan. Visitation will be from 3-9 p.m. today and 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Wednesday at Eastgate Funeral Service, where a vigil will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Monte was born July 10, 1948, in Bismarck, the son of William L. and Betty Jane (Small) Swenson. He was raised on a ranch south of Bismarck. Monte went to Manning School and graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1966. Monte enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the Vietnam War. He had a distinguished service career and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for heroism in ground combat. In a statement issued by his commanding officer, it was noted that when a personnel carrier was hit by a detonated mine, Private Swenson, disregarding his own safety, dismounted, and began placing a heavy volume of fire on enemy positions. Private Swenson continued to provide cover fire for his wounded comrades until they could be evacuated. His personal bravery and devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, the Ninth Infantry Division and the U.S. Army. Following the war, Monte returned to Bismarck. He married Patricia Conitz on Aug. 4, 1972, in Bismarck. They ranched south of Bismarck and for the past 10 years, Monte has managed the Elbow Room. Not only was Monte a hero in Vietnam, he was also a hero to his friends and family at home. He was generous with his time and talents, and would do whatever he could for anyone who needed a hand. Children loved Monte and he loved them. He is survived by his daughters, Amy Barton and her husband, William, and Michelle Swenson, all of Minneapolis; his son, Michael, Minneapolis; his newborn grandson, Wyatt Monte Barton; his mother, Betty Jane McCormick, Bismarck; his brother, Gene Swenson, Dallas; his sisters, Linda and Don Hawley, Indian Wells, Calif., Vicki and Milo Trusty, Bismarck, Patty and Tim Mattson, Menoken, Peggy and Roman Kauffmann, Bismarck, and Pam McCormick, Bismarck; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his fathers, William Swenson and Gene McCormick.

Edward Hintz
NEW LEIPZIG -- Services for Edward G. Hintz, 70, Dickinson, formerly of New Leipzig, will be held at 10:30 a.m. MST Tuesday at United Church of Christ, Mott, with the Revs. Dwight Albers and David Thoreson officiating. Burial will be in Sunnyslope Cemetery, Mott.
Visitation will be from 1-7 p.m. today at Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Mott, and will continue at the church one hour before services. A family service will begin at 7:30 tonight at the funeral home.
Special music will be provided by Heather Hertz, Lance Jacob, and Aaron and Cindy Krauter. Serving as casketbearers are Les Buchholz, Roger Rokusek, Richard Magstadt, Donald Dorner, Morrel Hirning and Donald Roth. All family and friends are considered honorary bearers. A memorial has been established to St. Benedict's Health Center in Dickinson, and the Ronald McDonald House in Bismarck.
Edward Gottlieb Hintz was born April 19, 1929, near Elgin, to Jacob and Ida (Scheck) Hintz. Edward grew up north of Elgin and attended rural schools there. In 1948, the Jacob Hintz family moved to the former Otto Oelke farm northwest of New Leipzig. Edward was united in marriage to Delores June Guenther on Sept. 26, 1951 at New Leipzig. Theymoved to the former Carl Auch farm 16 miles northwest of New Leipzig. They farmed, ranched and raised their family there. In 1992, their son took over operation of the farm and Edward and Delores continued to live on the place. Delores died Oct. 4, 1993. In March 1995, Edward moved to Dickinson, where he began working at St. Benedict's Nursing Center in maintenance, transportation and deliveries. Since Feb. 1, 2000, he has been hospitalized at Medcenter One in Bismarck. He passed from this life there on March 10, 2000, at the age of 70 years, 10 months, 21 days.
Edward enjoyed fishing, playing cards, dancing and visiting with people. He was a member of the Mott Fire District for several years.
Grateful for having shared his life are his son and daughter-in-law, Merle and Kjersti Hintz, New Leipzig; his daughter and son-in-law, Terryl and Francis Jacobs, Regent; four grandchildren, Deidre and Lacey Jacobs, and Emily and Nolan Hintz; his mother, Ida Hintz, Dickinson; one sister, Leona Bryson, Kennewick, Wash.; and a special friend, Maxine Evenson, Dickinson.
Edward was preceded in death by his father; his wife; and one brother, Ervin Hintz.

Marie Michelson
HARVEY -- Marie (Zuther) Michelson, 77, Harvey, died March 11, 2000, in the Harvey nursing home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Anamoose, with burial in the church cemetery.
She is survived by her husband, Wesley; one stepson, Jeff Michelson, Minneapolis; one stepdaughter, Michele Lutgen, Watertown, Minn.; five step-grandchildren; two brothers, Francis and Donald, both of Anamoose; and two sisters, Stella Rudnick, Anamoose, and Macella Nudell, Bismarck. Walter Sailer
Walter E. Sailer, 78, Hazen, died March 12, 2000, in the Beulah nursing home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Wednesday at Peace Lutheran Church, Hazen.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are prefered to Peace Lutheran Church, Hazen. Further arrangements are pending at Seibel Funeral Home, Hazen.

Dorothy Sayler
WISHEK -- Dorothy Sayler, 76, Wishek, died March 10, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Luke Lutheran Church, Wishek, with burial at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.
She is survived by her husband, Albert; three sons, Richard Forderer, Bismarck, Larry Forderer, Mandan, and Arnold Forderer, Spokane, Wash.; one daughter, Linda Fried, Spokane, Wash.; nine grandchildren; one sister, Lorraine Graf, Bismarck; and two brothers, Ted Blatter, Wilton, and Alfred Blatter, Mandan. John Scheck
CARRINGTON -- John J. Scheck, 91, Carrington, died March 10, 2000, in the Carrington care center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Carrington, with burial in Carrington Cemetery.
He is survived by two sons, Lyle, Torrance, Calif., and Norbert, Wauconda, Ill.; two daughters, Elaine Stedman, Glenfield, and Myrna Humbert, Arvada, Colo.; 16 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one sister, Pauline Miller, Shiner, Texas. Ivan Sherman
MENOKEN -- Ivan Sherman, 87, Menoken, died March 11, 2000, in the Steele care center. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Eastgate Funeral Service. Further arrangements are pending.

Russell Topp
MCHENRY -- Russell E. Topp, 77, McHenry, died March 11, 2000, in his home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Grace Lutheran Church, Grace City. Further arrangements are pending at Evans Funeral Home, New Rockford.

William Wagner
TURTLE LAKE -- William C. Wagner, 87, Garrison, died March 9, 2000, in the Garrison hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Turtle Lake Baptist Church, with burial in Turtle Lake Cemetery.
He is survived by three sisters, Alyce Breding, Minot, Leona Obenauer, Seattle, and Freda Hillhouse, Roswell, N.M. (Thomas Funeral Home, Minot)

Byron Anderson
Byron Anderson, 73, long time resident and local business man, died March 2, 2000 in Newport Beach, Calif., following ongoing treatment for cancer diagnosed July 1999. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Jeff Tengesdal officiating.
Mr. Anderson was born March 21, 1926 in Fargo, to Hugo and Betsey (Magenton) Anderson. He grew up on a farm near Walcott, with his parents and two brothers.
Following graduation from high school in 1944, he was accepted into the V5-V12 Naval Officer's training program and was stationed in Helena, Mont., where he attended Carroll College. He was transferred to Boulder, Colo. and attended the University of Colorado. He was discharged in July, 1946 and enrolled at NDAC, now NDSU. Following graduation in 1948, he began employment with St. Paul Fire and Marine Insurance Company, St. Paul, Minn., beginning his insurance career of 52 years. He transferred to Baltimore, Md., and in 1952, to the Fargo office as a State Agent.
On Oct. 15, 1955 he married Lorraine Ringdahl at American Lutheran Church in Fargo. In May 1961, they moved to Bismarck where he began employment with Murphy Insurance as an Independent Insurance Agent and continued in that capacity with BNC Insurance until becoming ill in July.
In February 1978, Byron and his wife, Lorraine, established Anderson's State Fur. He served as vice-president and management of the company.
In Bismarck they raised their family; he was active in the community serving on various boards and committees of local organizations; he was an active member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and Bismarck Kiwanis Club the past 39 years.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and a sincere friend. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by his wife of 44 years, Lorraine; their son and his wife, Carl and Susan and grandson, Casey, Salt Lake City, Utah; their daughter and her husband, Sara and Jim Simon, and granddaughter, Skylar, Mission Viejo, Calif.; and his brothers, Parnell Anderson and his wife, Helen, Kindred, and Hugo Anderson, Fargo.
Memorials may be given to the dedicated funds at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in memory of Byron.

Marcelline Castleman
Marcelline "Marcy" Castleman, 95, died March 12, 2000 at the Baptist Home, Bismarck, where she had been a resident for six years. Services will be held at noon Wednesday, at Church of St. Mary, Bismarck, with the Rev. Charlie Heidt officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck.
Public visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. today, at Boelter Funeral Home, where a rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
She was born Nov. 20, 1904 in Zeeland, the daughter of Wendelin and Julianna (Keller) Braun. In 1911, the family moved to Bismarck, where she attended St. Mary's School and St. Mary's Church.
Marcy worked for many years at Hoskins-Meyer in the photo developing department. In 1937, she went to California and returned to Bismarck, where she worked in maintenance at the post office until her retirement.
She is survived by three sisters, Anna Gerhart and Pauline Swanson, Bismarck, and Theresa Froelich, Las Vegas, Nev.; and many nieces and nephews.
Marcy was preceded in death by her parents; one sister and two brothers. (Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck)

Robin Durant
Robin (Grey Dog) Durant, 36, left this world on March 9, 2000. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, at 7 p.m. at Gateway Community Fellowship in Gateway Mall.
Robin was born on Oct. 14, 1963 in Michigan. He'll be missed by all of his brothers and all those who knew him. He worked at Butler Machinery as an accomplished welder. Robin loved to ride his Harley and was a prospective member for the Dakota Riders M.C. May his spirit fly in the wind and the wings of his soul soar with the eagles.
