Eugene Robert Martin
August 2, 2013
Eugene R. Martin age 86 of Friend, Nebraska died on Thursday, August 1, 2013 in Lincoln. He was born on March 1, 1927 in Lincoln to Earl Robert and Carrie (Burr) Martin. He graduated from Waverly High School. Eugene served in the US Navy from 1945 to 1952. He served during World War II and the Korean War. He married Enola S. Esponge on December 6, 1947 and they were together 66 years. He worked in the Insurance and Real Estate business since 1963.
Eugene is survived by his wife, Enola of Friend, Nebraska; daughter, Christine (Chris) Martin of Lincoln; son, Bob Martin of Alton, Missouri; daughter, Lori Martin of Fort Wayne, Indiana; grandsons, Robert (Robby) Martin of West Plains, Missouri; Samy Younis of Cincinnati, Ohio; granddaughter, Ricky Lee Morris of West Plains, Missouri; many sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Irene Pine; Carol Glantz; Orneta Johnson; brother, Kenneth Martin; a son in infancy, Eugene Robert Martin, Jr., and a granddaughter, Deana Younis.
The funeral service will be held on Monday, August 5, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. at the United Church of Christ in Friend, Nebraska.
Burial will be in Our Lady of Prompt Succor cemetery in Golden Meadow, Louisiana.
Memorials in lieu of flowers may be directed to the family for later designation.

Bill D. Smith
July 28, 2013
Bill D. Smith age 84 of Lincoln Nebraska passed away on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at The Monarch in Lincoln. He was born on March 17, 1929 in Chester, Nebraska to Cleo V. and Lois E. (Gifford) Smith. He graduated from Crete High School in 1947. Bill served with the U S Army during the Korean War from 1950 to 1952 with the 200th Engineer Company 196 Inf. Regt. He was stationed in Colorado and then for a year in Alaska. Bill married Virgie Havel on January 23, 1954 and they celebrated 59 years together. They moved to Lincoln in 1957. Bill was a dedicated Benefit supervisor with Woodmen Accident and Life Insurance Company for 37 years. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and enjoyed watching all sports, especially the Huskers, Saltdogs and KC Royals.
Bill is survived by his wife Virgie of Lincoln; son, Gene and Jane Smith of Lincoln; daughter, Barbara and Michael Honerman of North Platte; son-in-law, Dr. Brad and Laura Lockee of Pierce; grandchildren, Ryan, Reed, Kyle, Scott, Stacy, Matt, Brian, Amy, Brent, Aaron, Jake and Katie; great-grandchildren, Aiden, Ethan, Addison, Savannah and Wyatt. He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Susan Lockee.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 1, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Wyuka Funeral Home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, August 2, 2013 at 10:30 a.m., with a rosary preceding the Mass at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, 7601 Vine Street. Fr. Lyle M. Johnson will be officiating.
Burial with Military Honors will be in Wyuka cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.

Richard Shonerd
July 25, 2013
Richard Shonerd was born on June 21, 1929 to Harvey and Helen (Knapp) Shonerd. He left us on his life’s journey on July 24, 2013. He was born in Lincoln. NE and made Lincoln his home for those 84 years. During the Korean War he was a member of the United States Marine Corps, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was a combat veteran and received a purple heart. Following his military service, Dick was a Phillips 66 oil jobber in southeast Lincoln. After that business was sold, he took great pleasure as a coach driver for Goodlife Coaches and toured the USA and Canada. When he retired he worked part-time for the Nebraska Commission for the Blind and volunteered at the VA Hospital.
Dick is survived by two daughters: Nancy Mellott (Brad) of Papillion and Karee Shonerd of Lincoln; former wife and lifelong friend, Mary Waltz Shonerd; four grandchildren: Kara Ficke (Kurt Hesser), Collin Mellott (Mandy), Paige Mellott, Leah Sveen (Jared); four great-grandchildren: Alex and Christopher Hesser, Brady Mellott, Emery Sveen; a sister, Patricia Henry of Ely. Iowa, and brother William Shonerd (Judy) of Lincoln. Dick was preceded in death by his parents and brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Marjorie Shonerd. Memorials may be made to Church of Christ or Nebraska Commission for the Blind.
Cremation, no visitation.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at the Church of Christ, 57th and Vine Street.
Burial with military honors will be in Wyuka cemetery.

Donald Jack Smith
July 23, 2013
Donald Jack Smith age 86 of Lincoln, Nebraska died on Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at Lancaster Manor in Lincoln. He was born on March 10, 1927 in Onawa, Iowa to Willard and Pearl (Hale) Smith. He served in the US Army during the Allied Occupation of Japan. He worked as a printing pressman and was retired from the Lincoln Journal Star.
Donald Jack Smith is survived by his son, Alan and Gwen Smith of Gering, NE; daughters, Suzanne and John Wolford of Lincoln; Laura and Mike Duggan of Lincoln; Cecelia and Joel Ficke of Pleasant Dale, NE; 19 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Richard and Mary Rose Smith of Washington State; friend and former wife, Pamela Flory of Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents, wives; Mary Ann Aguirre Smith and Betty Freeman Smith. Sister, Betty, brothers, Bill and Wayne.
Cremation, no visitation.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at Wyuka Funeral Home.
Memorials may be directed to the No Kill Cat Shelter.

Debra Kay Donnell
October 13, 2013
Debra Kay Donnell, age 59 of Lincoln, passed away October 11, 2013 with her family by her side. She was born April 25, 1954 in Colorado Springs, CO. She was raised in Imperial, Nebraska. Deb graduated high school at Chase County High School. She then went on to obtain her BS in Computer Science with a minor in Business Administration at Kearney State College.
Deb was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister and great friend. She lived a beautiful life that, despite her blindness, always saw the bright colors in everyone and everything that surrounded her. She was active in her church at Living Word Fellowship and enjoyed being with her family and friends. Deb was an amazing and Godly woman who was an angel long before she passed on to be with The Lord.
Deb is preceded in death by her mother, Betty Einspahr. She is survived by her son, Darrick and daughter-in-law, Kasey, along with two granddaughters, Alaina and Kailey Donnell all of Olathe, KS and her soul mate, Steve Bennett of Lincoln, NE.
Celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at Wyuka Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 15th from Noon until 8:00 PM. with the family present to greet friends and relatives from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Interment will be on Thursday, October 17th at the Chase cemetery in Imperial, Nebraska.
Memorials may be left to the family or to the Living Word Fellowship of Church in Lincoln.

Joyce L. Cash
September 30, 2013
Joyce L. Cash, age 74, of Humboldt, Nebraska died September 29, 2013 in Lincoln. She was born March 6, 1939 in Plainfield, Wisconsin to Lyle and LaNolla (Rice) Daschner. Before her retirement she was a cook at the Newman Center on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus.
Survivors include her husband, Fred Cash of Humboldt. Daughter and Son-in-law, Kathy and William Foster of Lincoln. Son, Warren Mitchell of Lincoln; her mother, LaNolla Rice of Clinton, Wisconsin. Grandchildren and Spouse, Adam and Mariya Foster of San Francisco, California; Robert Foster of Lincoln; Wesley Mitchell of Lincoln and Brittany Mitchell of Lincoln. 6 Great grandchildren. 4 step children and several step great grandchildren. Sister and Brother-in-law, Delores and Tony Jones of Clinton, Wisconsin. Brothers and Sisters-in-law, Arleigh and Joni Daschner of Sussex, Wiconsin; Norman and Barb Daschner of Maringo, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren; Father, Lyle and Sister, Jeanette.
Visitation will be Thursday, October 3rd from Noon until 7:00 P.M. at Wyuka Funeral Home
Services will be at Wyuka Funeral Home on Friday, October 4th at 9:30 A.M.
Interment will be at Fairview cemetery, 84th and Adams, Lincoln.

James E. Meeks
James Edward Meeks, age 81 of Lincoln, died Friday, September 27, 2013. He was born February 29, 1932 in Fayette, Alabama to Phillip and Pearl (Taylor) Meeks. James was raised in Fayette, moved to Lincoln to join family and friends in the 1950s and worked in the construction industry until his retirement. He was known to many in the community for his JM seasoning and barbeque ribs. James was a kind and gracious person and will be missed by his family and friends and those at Homestead Rehab Center.
James is preceded in death by his parents, 5 brothers and 4 sisters. He is survived by his nieces Marie and Erania and by his many other nieces, nephews and their families and by his former wife Rosetta and his step-son Wilbur.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, October 4, 2013 at Wyuka Funeral Home.
Memorials to the family for a later designation.

Henry B. Thomann
September 23, 2013
Henry B. Thomann, age 96 of Lincoln passed away September 23, 2013. He was born August 14, 1917 in New Haven, Missouri to Oscar J. and Hattie M. (Foster) Thomann. Henry was a member of Southview Christian Church in Lincoln.
Survivors include his son, James B. Thomann of Springfield, Illinois. daughter and son-in-law, Jacqueline and Gene Hayes of Springfield, Illinois. Sister, Mary Hoerstkamp of New Haven, Misssouri. 2 Grandchildren, Julie and Garrett Curry; John Schroeder. 2 Step grandchildren, Scott and Debbie Hayes; Kerry and Allen Tomlin. 2 Great grandchildren, McKenna Curry; Brennan Curry. 2 Step great grandchildren, Travis Hayes; Jared Hayes and special friends. Preceded in death by his wife Joyce. Sister, Florence Von Behren. Brother, Oscar Thomann.
Services will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel at Wyuka Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Saturday beginning at 1:00 P.M. Interment will be at Wyuka cemetery.
Memorials may be left for the family for a later designation.

John R. Engel
September 16, 2013
John Robert Engel, age 90 of Lincoln passed away September 16, 2013. He was born April 1, 1923 in Grand Island, Nebraska to Fred and Katy (Krott) Engel. On February 22, 1942 John married Alberta Richardson in Grand Island, Nebraska. John served in the U.S. Army during WWII, spending over one year in Europe with Battery A, 555th Antiaircraft Artillery Automatic Weapons Battalion and at the end of the war with the U.S. Army military police. He was a member of the First Christian Church and the IUPAT local 0573. John had a 30 year career as a glazier with Cooks Paint & Glass contractors.
Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Susan Engel of Lincoln and Mike and Bonnie Engel of Lincoln. 7 Grandchildren, 5 Great grandchildren. Nieces and Nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Alberta; their daughter, Linda S. Engel (Wentz). Sisters, Marie Hope, Molie Engel, Irina Koch, Esther Christensen and Bernice Engel. Brother, Henry Engel and his parents.
Services will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. in the Chapel at Wyuka Funeral Home. Inurnment will be at Wyuka cemetery. No viewing or visitation, Johns wishes were to be cremated.
Memorials may be left for the Alzheimers Association or the American Heart Association.
