Helen Wiles
The funeral for Helen M. Wiles, 99, of Fremont will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont.
She died Thursday, June 10, 2004, at A.J. Merrick Manor in Fremont.
She was born June 6, 1905, in Plattsmouth to Stephen A. and Anna (Spangler) Wiles. She was a 1923 graduate of Plattsmouth High School. She received her degree from Nebraska Wesleyan College in Lincoln. She received her masters degree from the University of Southern California. She also studied at Northwestern University in Illinois and the University of Mexico. Then as a school teacher, she taught in public schools, including Lexington and at Fremont High School from 1936-69. Her main subject was Spanish, although she did teach other courses. She had traveled extensively in Mexico, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Spain, Western Europe, as well as throughout the United States.
She was a member of The Presbyterian Church, where she had served as a deacon. Other memberships include: charter member of Xi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, charter member of Chapter Ex of the P.E.O., Fremont Area Art Association, Arbor Vitae Chapter 92 Order of the Eastern Star, Retired Teachers Association, and she had been a member of the Joslyn Guild.
Survivors include: a niece, Grace Louise Simard of Omaha; two nephews, Stephen G. (and wife, Theda Rae) Wiles of Conroe, Texas, and H. Emerson (and wife, Norma) Wiles of Plattsmouth; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Guy and Howard Wiles, and a nephew, Marion Wiles.
Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Sunday and one hour prior to service time, all at the funeral home. A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday in Pleasant Ridge cemetery, south of Plattsmouth.

John Neuman
The funeral for John Herman Neuman, 82, of Omaha, formerly of Herman, will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Blair.
He died Wednesday, June 2, 2004, at his home.
Neuman was born Dec. 31, 1921, on a farm west of Fort Calhoun. He attended Long Creek Country School. He married Marie Studeny on June 27, 1959, in Blair. He worked for Civilian Conservation Corps, the State Department of Roads, and then Kelly-Ryan Manufacturing. He later worked for Herman High School as custodian and also drove a school bus for Tekamah-Herman Schools. He worked for Concrete Equipment Company in Blair for 10 years before retiring in 1983.
He was a member of St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include: his wife; three sons, Kent (and wife, Cathy) Neuman of Fremont, John (and wife, Pam) Neuman of Omaha and Mike (and wife, Christine) Neuman of Lincoln; two daughters, Theresa (Mrs. Scott) Bokelman of Gothenburg and Lori (Mrs. Jim) Sperry of Elkhorn; three sisters, June (Mrs. Don) Butts, Donna Stewart, all of Omaha, and Mary Lou (Mrs. Joe) Reyzlik of Blair; a brother, Pat (and wife, Claudia) Neuman of Gordon Bay, South Africa; a sister-in-law, Patty Neuman of Omaha; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother and a brother-in-law.
A rosary will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home in Blair. Burial will be in Holy Cross cemetery in Blair.
Campbell-Aman Funeral Home in Blair is in charge of arrangements.

Arbutus Tweedy
Arbutus J. "June" Tweedy, 68, of Mead died Tuesday, June 1, 2004, in Omaha.
Arrangements are pending at Svoboda Funeral Home in Wahoo.

Daniel Fornoff
Daniel J. Fornoff, 39, of Fremont died Thursday, June 10, 2004, at Fremont Area Medical Center.
Arrangements are pending at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont.

Marian Holmes
Marian V. Holmes, 80, of Louisville, Neb. died Friday, June 11, 2004, at her home.
Marian Johnson was born Sept. 10, 1923, in Mead. She graduated from Mead High School. She married Albert "Bill" Holmes on Sept. 14, 1941. He preceded her in death on Nov. 29, 1998.
Survivors include: a son, Neal (and wife, Carol) Holmes of Fort Collins, Colo.; three daughters, Shirley Todd of Olathe, Kan., Marcia (Mrs. Mark) Reynolds of Omaha and Darlene (Mrs. Scott) Cartmill of Louisville, Neb.; a sister, Marjorie Yerger of Fremont; a brother, Robert Johnson of Leshara; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a grandson. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Fusselman Wymore Funeral Chapel, 413 Elm, in Louisville with the Rev. Robert Johnson officiating.

Margaret Owen
Margaret L. Owen, 85, of St. Joseph, Mo., died Thursday, June 10, 2004, at a local hospital.
Margaret Gilmore was born March 16, 1919, in Windsor, Mo. She lived in St. Joseph until 1940 and later returned in 1998. She married James A. Owen, II, on Sept. 22, 1940, in Kansas City. He preceded her in death in 1999. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include: three daughters, Mary Margaret Mears of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, Jean Ann Pike of Lawrence, Kan. and Patricia Louise Feala of Morse Bluff; a son, William Kemp Owen of Shelby, Iowa; four brothers, Clayton Gilmore, Chester Gilmore, Willis Gilmore, all of St. Joseph, Mo., and Robert Gilmore of Big Lake, Mo.; two sisters, Shirley Jean Garvey and Mary Ann Hollingsworth, both of St. Joseph, Mo.; 24 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a son and two brothers.
The funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at Meierhoffer Family Funeral Service. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service at the funeral home. Friends may call the funeral home after 1 p.m. Saturday through Monday. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery.

Slavomir Vodehnal
Slavomir J. "Slavy" Vodehnal, 81, of Clarkson died Thursday, June 10, 2004, at his home.
Vodehnal was born May 25, 2004, north of Clarkson in Stanton County. He graduated from Clarkson high in 1941. He enlisted in the Navy on Dec. 7, 1942, and was trained as a radar man. He was discharged on Dec. 4, 1945. He then returned to Clarkson and worked for Humlicek and Novotny Tailor Shop and Dry Cleaning. He married Gerry Zidko on Aug. 16, 1965, in Gregory, S.D. He worked at Clarkson Bank in 1948 and retired in 1987.
He was a member of Clarkson Commercial Club, VFW, American Legion, Lions Club, Clarkson Community Band, Board of Directors for Clarkson Bank, Memorial Hospital Board in Schuyler, charter member of Clarkson Historical Society, Clarkson High School Foundation, and was president of Colfax County Veterans Service Organization. He was a weather correspondent to Channel 7, was involved with the U.S. Weather Service, was on the first committee for Czech Festival and taught Czech language classes through Platte Community College.
Survivors include: his wife; a sister Vlasta Arledge-Jensen of Calif.; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his infant brother. The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at SS Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Clarkson with the Rev. Floyd Wessling officiating. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Sunday, and a wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, both at the church. Burial will be in Clarkson National cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by Cornhusker VFW Post 6419.
Memorials have been established to Clarkson Historical Opera House and St. John Neumann Catholic School. Miller Funeral Home in Clarkson is in charge of arrangements.

Michael Coday Sr.
Michael A. Coday Sr., 81, of Norfolk died Wednesday, June 16, 2004, at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk.
Coday was born April 20, 1923, in Emmet. He attended school in Emmet and then graduated from Atkinson High School in 1941. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army from March 25, 1943, to Dec. 26, 1945, in the Pacific Theater. He then attended Boyles College in Omaha for one year where he studied to be a telegrapher. He then worked for a railroad company as a telegrapher. He married Dorothy A. Wewel on May 31, 1951, in Atkinson. He owned and operated both the First Standard Oil Gas Station and then United Associate Groceries in Atkinson until 1963 when they moved to Norfolk and opened Western Auto Store in downtown. In 1966, he started working for Gibsons as a house wares department manager until being transferred in 1967 to Columbus where he was assistant manager. In 1968, he became the manager of Gibsons in Chickasha, Okla., until he was transferred back to Columbus in 1973 and then they moved back to Norfolk in 1979 where he worked as the sporting goods manager until he retired in 1988.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Farley Tushla American Legion Post 86 in Atkinson, a past county commander for Holt County and also had served as District 2 commander.
Survivors include: his wife; five sons, the Rev. Timothy Coday of Dodoma Tanzania, East Africa, Thomas (and wife, Mary) Coday of Fremont, Gerard (and wife, Maureen) Coday of Liberty, Mo., Michael (and wife, Christine) Coday Jr. of Howells and Dennis (and wife, Jaratsri) of Liberty.; three daughters, Nancy (Mrs. Alex) Schulte of Omaha, Kathleen Coday and Carol (Mrs. Jeff) Jones, all of Norfolk; three sisters, Margaret Bonenberg of Gering, Clara Wolcott of Omaha and Rose Ann Stand of Shenandoah, Iowa; and 14 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four brothers and a sister.
The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Norfolk with the Revs. Dave Belt and Timothy Coday officiating. Visitation be from 3-6 p.m. today at Home for Funerals in Norfolk and continues from 7-8 p.m. at the church with a rosary at 7:30 p.m. Burial will be 3 p.m. Friday at St. Josephs Catholic cemetery in Atkinson. Military rites will be by Farley Tushla American Legion Post 86 of Atkinson.
Memorials have been established to Sacred Heart Schools and the Rev. Timothy Codays African Mission.

Marie Kracman Fujan
The funeral for Marie Kracman Fujan, 93, of Wahoo will be 10 a.m. Monday at Svoboda Funeral Home in Wahoo.
She died Wednesday, June 16, 2004, in Wahoo.
Marie Frana was born April 13, 1911, in rural Prague. She grew up on a farm near Prague. After her marriage to Jerry Kracman on June 17, 1931, she lived on a farm southeast of Linwood. They moved to a farm near Swedeburg and later moved to Wahoo. He preceded her in death in 1968. She worked at the Saunders County Hospital for some time. She married Bohumil Fujan on June 21, 1974. She had resided at the Saunders County Care Center since 1997.
Survivors include: a daughter, Elaine Walla of Linwood; a son, Delmar Kracman of Shreveport, La.; two sisters-in-law, Mary Frana of Wahoo and Helen Frana of Nebraska City; eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, an infant daughter and two brothers.
The Rev. Milana Joseph will officiate Mondays service. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Linwood Hill cemetery in Linwood.
A memorial has been established to St. Elizabeth Hospice of Saunders County.

Eugene Haiar
The funeral for Eugene E. Haiar, 60, of Fremont will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Patricks Catholic Church, 3400 E. 16th St., Fremont.
He died Monday, June 21, 2004, at Fremont Area Medical Center.
Haiar was born July 19, 1943, in Lindsay. He grew up at Lindsay and was a 1962 graduate of Holy Family High School at Lindsay. He served in the Nebraska Army National Guard and lived at Columbus and later moved to Fremont. He took many college extension courses in the electronics field. He was employed at Hormel Foods Corp. and also did custom painting and home remodeling. He was a member of St. Patricks Catholic Church in Fremont. He married Rosie Muhle on Dec. 29, 1964, at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church at Columbus.
Survivors include: his wife; two sons, Paul (and wife, Jane) Haiar of Anchorage, Alaska and Steven (and wife, Melanie) Haiar of Las Vegas; two daughters, Nancy (Mrs. Calvin) Schwarz of Montrose, Colo. and Janene (Mrs. James) Wohlers of Grand Island; three brothers, Vernon (and wife, Corrine) Haiar of Humphrey, Richard Haiar of Columbus and Alvin (and wife, Jean) Haiar of Omaha; mother-in-law, Martha Mueller of Columbus; three sisters-in-law, Arlene (Mrs. Mark) Woodworth, Gladys (Mrs. Donald) Borowiak and Connie (Mrs. Richard) Wagner; and six grandchildren.
The Rev. Owen Korte will officiate Fridays service. A vigil service will start at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Visitation will be noon to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and one hour prior to service time Friday at the church. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Calvary cemetery, northeast of Columbus.

John D. Cochran
John Delbert "Papa" Cochran, 66, of Valley died Sunday, June 20, 2004, in Omaha.
He was born May 23, 1938, in Oskaloosa, Iowa to Walter Cochran and Nellie Leighton-Cochran. He grew up in Woonsocket and Heron, S.D. At age 19, he moved to Rapid City, S.D., where he worked in, then purchased a gas station. His children, Lyle and Gloria, were born in Rapid City. He later moved to Omaha and then Valley, where he had lived for more than 35 years. He started dating Arlene Whitaker in 1979. They were married Oct. 5, 1985, at the Baptist-Presbyterian Church in Valley. He and Arlene shared a large family with children, Rocky, Keith, Yvonne, Robin and Tara. One of their first vacations was in Canada where he picked blueberries. He always said that this was his favorite vacation ever. He also cherished the times that he and his family went camping and fishing with family friends, Tom and Marge Adcock.
When John was not on the road being a "professional truck driver," he could be found working in the yard or playing with his dog, Lady. He had a strong love for the holidays and decorating. His Christmas lights often were a point of admiration. If he wasnt outside, then he either was on vacation or visiting with one of his many friends. John was an active member of the church and helped out whenever he could. He and his wife, Arlene, often worked side by side for events at church, Valhaven Nursing Home, and in their home.
Papa was a fixture in the lives of his grandchildren. He enjoyed being an active part in their lives even if it meant forgetting his age, chasing after someone, and hurting himself in the process. Countless hours were spent in the company of his family whether it was working outside with them, going on school field trips, taking vacations, or going out to his favorite Chinese restaurant.
John will always be remembered for his big heart and will be missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include: his wife, Arlene of Valley; and their children, grandchildren and great-grandsons: Keith, Jane, Amber, Courtney, and Travis Lawson of Valley; Robin and Mariah Hanson and Randy Hoy of Valley; Tara Lawson of Spearfish, S.D., Justin Cochran of Lincoln; Sue, Gene and Zach Houchens of Lincoln; Gloria Gilbert of San Antonio, Texas; Lyle Cochran of Wilber; Yvonne and Antonio Lawson of Valley; Damen, Shelly, Gavin and Kaleb Lawson of Valley; Terry and Pat Lawson of Schwenksville, Penn.; and a mans best friend, Lady. Special cousins, Claude and Elaine Cochran of Rapid City, S.D.; numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews and many special friends.
Papa got his promotion to heaven on Sunday. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, a son, Rocky J. Lawson.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Baptist-Presbyterian Church in Valley with the Rev. Carl Ratcliff officiating. Visitation will be noon to 8 p.m. Thursday with family receiving friends between 6-8 p.m. at Reichmuth Funeral Home in Valley. Burial will be in Pleasant View cemetery in Leshara.
Memorials have been established to NORS and Valley Fire and Rescue.
