C. G. Wallace

C.G. Wallace III, 66, of Kimball, died suddenly on Sunday August 8, 2004 at Kimball Health Services. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, August 11, 2004 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church of Kimball with the Reverend Robert Karnish as celebrant. A Rosary service was Tuesday, August 10 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church or the Kimball Volunteer Fire Department. Cantrell Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

C.G. was born on March 1, 1938 in Hastings, Neb. to Charles G. and Evelyn M. (Arnold) Wallace. He graduated from Hastings High School in 1956; he then attended University of Nebraska-Lincoln and graduated in 1961. C.G. went on to attend the University of Nebraska Law School, from which he graduated in 1964. He began his law practice in Hartford, Conn. from 1964 to 1967, and then relocated to North Platte, Neb. from 1967 until 1983. C. G. continued practicing law in Omaha until being appointed County Judge in Kimball-Cheyenne-Duel and Banner counties in 1988. He remained in this position until his death.

C.G. and Angela Casey were married on October 28, 1984 in Dallas Texas.

He was a member of Nebraska Supreme Court and all lower courts since 1964; Nebraska District Court; Nebraska State Bar Association; Lincoln County Bar Association; Western Nebraska Bar Association; Omaha Bar Association; American Judicature Society; Judicial Qualifications Commission, as well as belonging to numerous civic organizations in North Platte and Omaha. He was a member of the Great Plains Highlanders in Kimball.

He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Angela Wallace of Kimball; son Scott and wife Meg Wallace of Gordon; daughters Alana Wallace of Kimball, Margaret and husband Dan Kalkhoff of Ansley, Elizabeth and husband Scott Reynolds of Broken Bow, Chris and husband Roger Stage of Chandler, Ariz.; a sister Marlyn Coleman of Peoria, Ariz., and a brother Robert and wife Peg Wallace of Hastings; grandchildren Brittany and Grant Reynolds; nephew Tim Wallace, and a niece Katie Howell.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Donald Clay

Donald Wayne Clay, 72, formerly of Kimball, died on Sunday, July 25, 2004 in Westminster, Colo. A Memorial Service was held July 28 at St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran Church in Thornton, Colo. with Pastor Penni Walsh officiating. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements were made by All-State Cremation. Honors were offered by the Air Force Honor Guard.

Donald was born March 1, 1932 in Kimball, Neb., the only son of Ivan and Beulah Clay. He participated in high school sports and received All State Honors in football, basketball, and baseball. He served three years in the U.S. Air Force. His passion was sports, from playing semi-pro baseball, coaching little league, and being his grandchildren’s number one fan.

He married Betty Jean Wyckoff on Feb. 17, 1962 in Dix. They had two sons.

Don spent the last years of his life doing what he most loved, spending time with his wife and watching the sports and activities of his kids and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Betty, son Bob (Diana), son Steve (Michele), and four grandchildren.

L’Marie Watson

L’Marie Ann Watson, 77, of Kimball, died on Thursday July 29, 2004 at Memorial Healthcare-Extended Care in Sidney. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday August 7, 2004 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kimball. Pastor Brad Heinecke will officiate. Burial will be in the Kimball cemetery. There will be no visitation and the casket will be closed at the service. Friends may sign the register book at the funeral home on Friday August 6 from 1:00 until 4:00 PM.

Memorial contributions may be made to Memorial Health Hospice; the Kimball Friendship Senior Center, or the Memorial Healthcare Extended Care. Cantrell Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.

L’Marie was born on July 20, 1927 in Kimball to Albert and Alice (Carlberg) Imes. She married Harry Watson on October 12, 1947 in Kimball. L’Marie worked for Kansas Nebraska Gas Company for 18 years, retiring in January 1983.

L’Marie was currently a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kimball as well as a devoted member of the Kimball Friendship Senior Center, and a member of BPW. She enjoyed her family very much, and will be missed. L’Marie enjoyed crocheting and her monthly “Birthday Club” ladies.

She is survived by her sons: Jim and wife Donna Watson of Green River, Wyo., Steve and wife Patty Watson of Kimball, and Kip Watson of Las Vegas, Nev.; a daughter Bonnie and husband Lance Koenig of Sidney; a sister Margie Halstead of Lander, Wyo.; grandchildren: Shane Watson, Melissa Watson and friend Brian Owensky, Erin and Matt Longenecker, Brianne Koenig, Zachary Watson, Anthony Watson, Bryce Watson, Cassidy Watson, and Preston Watson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harry on November 7, 1991, a daughter, two sisters and one brother.

Georgia Gaines

Georgia D. Gaines, 54, formerly of Kimball, passed away July 23, 2004 at her home in Alice.

She was born July 6, 1950 in Greta Bend, Kan., to Fay L. and Laverna M. Wenger. She graduated from Kimball High School in 1968.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ron Gaines, in October of 1999.

Survivors include her beloved son, Kris Gaines of San Antonio, Texas; two sisters, Jo Ellis of Cleveland, Okla., and Carol (Patrick) Dunegan of Kimball, Neb.; three brothers, Ira Wenger and Bobby Wenger of O’Sage Beach, Mo., and Jim Wenger of Hayward, Calif.; mother-in-law, Dorothy Gaines of Denver, Colo.; and several nieces and nephews, other family members and church members who loved her dearly.

Funeral services were July 30, 2004 at the Agua Dulce Baptist Church. Burial was in Sandia cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to Holmgreen Mortuary, Inc.

Jonathan Wills

Jonathan Edward Wills, 43, our beloved daddy, husband, and son, formerly of Kimball, went to be at home with Jesus following a tragic drowning accident on August 1, 2004, while trying to save those he loved.

Funeral services were August 4, at Bismarck, N.D., Funeral Home, with the Rev. Don Burnett officiating, and will be Friday, August 6, at 10:30 A.M. at the Dix Bible Church, Dix, Neb., with the Rev. Virgil Johnson, officiating. Burial will be in Potter cemetery.

Visitation is Thurs., August 5, from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney.

Memorials have been established to Camp Rock in Redington, Neb.

Jonathan was born in Kimball, Neb. to Elmer and Helen (Fisher) Wills, on May 2, 1961.

He graduated from Potter High School in 1979 and attended college at LeTourneau College, Longview, Texas, and then at the University of Wyoming where he met and married Jennifer Crook in 1984. He earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering in 1985. Jonathan was a very accomplished engineer who had a gift of fixing high tech problems. He was a hard worker who loved a challenge. His job took him and his family to live in many places across the U.S.

Jonathan loved riding his motorcycle and the mountains. In 2002, he won first place in the over-40 class of USRA Desert Racing. He missed walking in the mountains. Jonathan loved Jesus. As a follower of Christ, all of his decisions were made with the intent to do what Christ would have him do. He laboriously worked to instill the same values in his children, whom he loved immeasurably. He was a good daddy.

Jonathan is survived by his wife, Jennifer; his sons, Joshua and Jonathan James (J.J.); and his daughter, Jessica, all of Bismarck; his mother, Helen Wills, Potter, Neb.; and his brother, David, Dix, Neb.

Preceding Jonathan in death were his father, Elmer Wills, and his sister, Janet.

Letha Mesmer

Letha Pauline Mesmer, 86, formerly of Kimball, died August 2, 2004 at the Eben Ezer Lutheran Center in Brush, Colo. Letha is the sister-in-law of Irene Mesmer and aunt of Joyce Bright and family.

She was born Dec. 23, 1917, in Simms, Mont., to George and Ruth (Moore) Dwinell. She married Ivan Mesmer May 27, 1934, in Norton, Kan. They moved to Fort Morgan, Colo. from Denver. They lived in Kimball in the 1970s.

She was a member of the Calico Club and Ladies Aid in Goodrich She attended Weldon Valley Presbyterian Church in Goodrich and was a member of the First Christian Church in Edmond, Kan.

Mrs. Mesmer is survived by her husband, Ivan of Fort Morgan; four sons, Keith of Andover, Minn., Ted of Weldona and David and Dean, both of Fort Morgan; one sister, Eva Mae Jury of Lincoln, Neb.; two brothers, Leland Dwinell of Norton, Kan., and Jack Newbold of Topeka, Kan.; nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A memorial service will be Friday at 11 a.m. at All Saints Lutheran Church in Brush. Inurnment will follow in Serenity Falls Columbarium in Fort Morgan.

Those who wish may make memorials to the Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center.

The Heer and Jolliffe Mortuary in Fort Morgan is in charge of the arrangements.

Latisha (Tuller) Durland

LaTisha “Tisha” (Tuller) Durland, 34 of Gering and formerly of Kimball, died August 2, 2004 at the University Hospital in Denver, CO.

Funeral service will be on August 5, at 1:30 p.m. at the Trinity United Methodist Church of Kimball with the Reverend Roger Gillming officiating. Visitation will be from 2 until 7 p.m. on Wed. Aug. 4 at the funeral home. The casket will be closed at the service. Burial will be in the Kimball cemetery.

Memorials can be made to the Tisha Durland Memorial Fund for Amanda.

Cantrell Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.

Tisha was born on Sept. 11, 1969 in Kimball to Larry and Linda (Williams) Tuller. She graduated from Kimball County High School in 1987.

On March 3, 1988 Tisha and David Chamberlain were united in marriage and they had a wonderful daughter Amanda, on Dec. 14, 1990.

Tisha worked as a dispatcher for a number of years, she enjoyed working for the Kimball County Sheriff’s Department and the Torrington Police Department.

On Jan. 27, 2001, Tisha and Shane Durland were married in Torrington, Wyo., and moved to Scottsbluff in June of 2003, where she worked for Bluffs Sanitary Supply.

She enjoyed crocheting, creating scrapbooks, and especially loved to be of help to all people she knew and didn’t know.

She loved her family the most, especially her daughter Amanda, and her cousins were like brothers and sisters to her. LaTisha possessed a natural talent to entertain and was a magnet to those who loved to laugh and enjoy life.

We will miss her quick sense of humor, her compassion for others, her willingness to assist anyone in need and her devotion to family and friends.

She is survived by her husband Shane Durland of Gering, her mother Linda Williams of Kimball, father Larry and his wife Kathy Tuller of Culbertson, daughters Amanda Chamberlain; Samantha Durland; Taylor Durland and a son Tarren Durland; sister Lisa and husband James Cross of Banner County, a half sister DaNita and husband Danny Robinson, and step sister Michelle Hall.

Tisha is also survived by her Grandparents Evert and Pauline Williams and Roxie Tuller, Uncle Jerry and Aunt Sharon Williams, Aunt Dianna Kudera, Uncle Ray and Aunt Pat Tuller, Uncle Gary and Aunt Sandy Tuller; Cousins Traci and Chris Pleiss, and Abby, Nick and Rylan; Brian Williams and Logan and Garrett; and Noelle and Ken Jacquot and Jhett, Spencer, Madison and Shayla; nieces Kristin; Paige; Jadyn; Tasha, and nephews Robby and Kyler.

She was preceded in death by her Grandfather Dane Tuller.

Elaine Herboldsheimer

Elaine Marie Herboldsheimer, 81, of Bushnell, died on Thursday, July 22, 2004 at her home on the ranch. Funeral Services were held Monday, July 26 at the First English Lutheran Church in Kimball. The Rev. Ron Nuss-Warren officiated. Burial followed in the Potter cemetery. If friends wish to make a memorial contribution, the family would appreciate memorials be made to the First English Lutheran Church or Prairie Haven Hospice. Cantrell Funeral Home of Kimball assisted with arrangements.

Elaine was born October 24, 1922 at her grandparents home in Sidney, Neb., the daughter of William and Anna (Volkert) Sahs. She and her twin sister Marjorie were the first set of twins delivered by Dr. Taylor. Delno and Mildred, another set of twins were born 16 months later. The family moved to a farm seven miles west of Dalton in 1935.

Elaine graduated from Dalton High School and Chadron State Teachers College. She taught in rural schools until she married Dale Herboldsheimer March 3, 1946 at Messiah Lutheran in Broadwater after his return from the Marine Corp. They farmed on his parents place south of Potter before moving to the Green Valley Ranch west of Bushnell in the fall of 1951. Dale died September 14, 1971.

She was a member of First English Lutheran Church, Grace Circle, Moonbean Club, and Solo Club. Her faith, church, family, and friends were very important to her. She loved traveling with Marj and Kermit, the Chicago Cubs, Runza parties, family get-togethers, playing Sheepshead, and cooking. We will all miss her cookies and lemon meringue pies.

She is survived by three children: Monte and his wife Patty Herboldsheimer of Bushnell, Dr. Bryan Herboldsheimer of Calabasas, Calif., and Cilia and her husband Jeff Scott of Casper, Wyo. Also surviving are her twin sister Marjorie and her husband Kermit Nelson of Dalton, seven grandchildren, and two great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and the entire Herboldsheimer family. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dale, sister Mildred and brother Rev. Delno Sahs.

Gail Southard

Gail Southard, 82, long-time resident of Kimball County, died July 25, 2004 in Billings, Mont. Gail was born on February 4, 1922, to Charles and Anna Southard on a farm in Kimball County.

On June 27, 1942 he married Phyllis L. Spencer of Dix in Columbus, Ohio. After serving in the army during WWII, Gail and Phyllis settled on a farm north of Dix, Neb. where they farmed for over 40 years. After spending several years of retirement in Kimball, they moved to Brighton, Colo., where they lived at Inglenook. In Nov. 2003, they moved to Highgate Senior Living in Billings.

Gail is survived by Phyllis, his wife of 62 years, daughters Susan Baack (Dan Gross) and Sally Eby (Newt) all of Billings, and son Andrew Southard (Lynn) of Brighton, Colo; brothers Tom Southard of Kimball, and John Southard of Tacoma, Wash.; sisters Verda Allison of Kimball, and Fern Fabiano of Sacramento, Calif; grandchildren Chris and Beth Bogert and family of Dix, Monica and Dany Riveron of Kaiserslautern, Germany, Aaron and Cassi Baack and family of Fort Wayne, Ind., Matt and Marge Baack of Billings, Mont. and Holden Southard of Brighton, Colo; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Everett, Harry, Vernon, and Bob; and sister Margaret and an infant sister.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service held. Memorials may be sent to Hospice or the charity of the donor’s choice.

Betty Cashler

Betty Louise (Moyer) Cashler, 77, of Banner County, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, July 13, 2004 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff with her family at her side. The funeral was July 20 at the Harrisburg Community Church with Pastor Ken Boston officiating. Interment was at West Lawn cemetery in Gering. Memorial contributions may be given to the church or to the family. Condolences may be emailed to sympathy@jolliffefuneralhome.com.

Betty was born June 4, 1927 in Scottsbluff, the daughter of Edward and Eva (Grinstead) Moyer. She attended kindergarten in Floris, Iowa and continued her education in Gering and Scottsbluff schools. She worked at Woolworth’s Department Store in Scottsbluff until her marriage to Wayne Cashler on June 16, 1946 in Gering. The couple settled on a wheat/cattle ranch in Banner County. There Betty became a member of the Wright’s Ladies’ Club and an active member of the Harrisburg Community Church. She taught Vacation Bible School for the American Sunday School Union and donated her time to various projects at Camp Rock in Redington. Betty enjoyed her family, baking, sewing, gardening, and caring for her pets.

Betty is survived by her husband, Wayne Cashler, of Harrisburg; four children: Donald Cashler and his wife Dina of Harrisburg, Colleen Acker and her husband Dyle of Benicia, Calif., Jan Laws and her husband Carl of Scottsbluff, and Nadine Pierschbacher and her husband Al of Forteleza, Brazil; sister Lucille Matlock of Scottsbluff; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and her many friends and extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Joyce Cashler, and two brothers, Robert and William Moyer.

Elmer Peterson

Elmer C. Peterson, 78, of Scottsbluff, formerly of Dix, died on July 7, 2004 at the Western Nebraska Veterans Home in Scottsbluff. Graveside services were held July 9, 2004 at the Kimball cemetery. Reverend Roger Gillming officiated. No visitation was held. Cantrell Funeral Home assisted with the arrangements.

He was born on July 20, 1925 in Auburn, Neb. to Elford and Stella L. (Kelly) Peterson. Elmer graduated from Dix High School. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He worked as a warehouse dockworker for Ford Moving and Storage in Omaha. He lived for a short while in Sidney and moved into the Mt. View Towers in Cheyenne. In 2001 he moved into the Western Nebraska Veterans Home in Scottsbluff.

He is survived by his brother, James Peterson and his wife Barbara of Dodge City, Kan., and his sister, Frances Annabelle Peterson of Cheyenne, Wyo.

Kurt Kleven

Graveside services and inurnment for Kurt Alan Kleven, 47, formerly of Kimball, were held July 16, 2004 in the Kimball cemetery at Kimball, Neb., with Pastor Dwayne Hunzeker of the First English Lutheran Church officiating. A celebration of Kurt’s life was held in Wheatland Sat., July 17, 2004.

He died Wed., July 14, 2004, at United Medical Center-West in Cheyenne, Wyo.

Kurt was born May 5, 1957, in Kimball, Neb., the son of Timan and Helen (Schneider) Kleven. The family lived in Pine Bluffs, Chugwater, and Wheatland, Wyo. He graduated from Wheatland High School in 1975 and continued his education at the University of Wyoming where he earned a bachelor’s degree in art in 1991. His love of art and music took him to Cheyenne to live.

Survivor’s include his mother, Helen Kleven of Wheatland; two brothers: Ron Kleven and wife, Frieda of Chesapeake, Va., and Terry Kleven and wife, Vicki of Gillette, Wyo.; four sisters: Trudy Kosemund, Pat Preuit and husband Leo, all of Wheatland, Beverly Hodges and husband, Jim of Purcell, Okla., and Karen Shelor of Sidney, Neb.; good friend, Stanley Bercich of Cheyenne; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Timan in 1973.

Memorials to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family. Gorman Funeral Homes–Platte Chapel of Wheatland was in charge of the arrangements.
