Roy Nelson

Potter resident Leonard LeRoy “Roy” Nelson, 92, died Monday, August 27, at the Beverly Health Center in Sidney.

Funeral services were held Thursday, August 30, at the Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney, with Pastor Roger Gillming of Calvary United Methodist Church officiating. Burial was in the Potter cemetery.

He was born to Peter and Florence (Herboldsheimer) Nelson on January 6, 1909, at Potter. He was raised north of Potter. He attended School District 13, which his parents helped establish, for one year and was then taught at home. He lived with his mother after his father’s death and they later moved into Potter.

He later moved to the Beverly Health Center.

Along with his siblings, he farmed the section his family homesteaded in 1888. He also had oil wells and raised sheep.

He was a member of the Potter United Methodist Church.

He is survived by four nieces and ten nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Robert, and three sisters, Alice Fisher, Hilma Shaw and Myrtle Smith.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Potter United Methodist church or the Potter Fire Department.

Holechek Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Vivian L. Diemoz

Vivian Lorene Diemoz of Basalt, Colo. died August 31, 2001. She was the mother of Stephen Diemoz of Kimball.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 7, at 2 p.m. at the Basalt Community United Methodist Church in Basalt. Burial will follow at Fairview cemetery in Basalt.

She was born August 23, 1920, in Oxford, Iowa, to John Clarence and Mabel Freda (Stratton) Hutchison. She moved with her family to Colorado in 1930. She worked as a nurse in Denver and Glenwood Springs. She married Oscar Dec. 10, 1947 and they ranched near Emma.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Stephen and Diane Diemoz of Kimball; one daughter and son-in-law; four grandchildren, including Anna and Christopher Diemoz of Kimball; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter, her husband and a sister.

Donald Henson

Donald Henson, 67, of Kimball, died Friday, August 24, in Mesquite, Texas.

Funeral services were Wednesday, August 29 at the Cantrell Funeral Home in Kimball, with Pastor Harvey Macklin officiating. Masonic services were under the direction of Sonny Eatmon Lodge #294 AF&AM in Kimball.

He was born to Taylor and Ina Henson on June 2, 1934, in Ft. Smith, Ohio. He attended public schools in Ohio. He served in the U.S. Air Force. He moved to California and attended culinary school in San Francisco. He moved from California to Colorado. He moved to Kimball approximately seven years ago.

He formerly managed the Beef and Brunch Restaurant in Kimball. He had been recently driving truck for Stevens Transport, where he has been training.

He was a member of Sonny Eatmon Lodge #294, Scottish Rite Masons and the Shriner. He was also been a member of Kimball VFW Post #2243. He had also been a volunteer at the Kimball County Hospital.

He is survived by his wife, Darlene Tiner-Henson; sons Paul Gilbo of Denver and Barry Henson; daughters Lisa Gilbo Dunning of Kimball and Rhonda Gail; brothers Richard, Earl, Paul and Homer; and sister Glady; and two grandsons Jacob and Joshua Dunning.

He was preceded in death by six brothers and one sister.

Memorials may be made to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital.

Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Gregory Scott Bowron

Former Kimball resident Gregory Scott Bowron, 31, of Gaylord, Mich., died Saturday, August 18, 2001. He is the son of Gary and Barbara Bowron of Kimball.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 22 at Nelson funeral Home. Burial was in Fairview cemetery in Gaylord.

He was born in Flint, Mich., October 2, 1969 and lived most of his life in the Gaylord area. He lived in Kimball in the 1970’s.

He is survived by his father Gary and stepmother Barbara Bowron of Kimball; two children Holy Hendrickson of Vanderbilt and Austin Totten of Gaylord; one sister Tami Techel of Gaylord; one brother Jeff Bowron of Vanderbild; half-brother Dustin Bowron of Marshall, Texas; half-sister Stephanie Bowron of Kimball; paternal grandparents Harold and Jennie Bowron of Flint; and Papa Dan Sinn of Gaylord; and numerous aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his mother Nora Nash Butler in 1993.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Gregory Bowron Memorial Fund or to the National Head Injury Alliance through the Nelson Funeral Home.

Jacqueline Madden

Jacqueline “Jackie” L. Madden, 64, of Pine Bluffs, Wyo., died August 10, 2001, at Life Care of Cheyenne, Wyo.

Funeral services were Tuesday, August 14, at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Pine Bluffs, with Father Thomas Cronkleton officiating. Burial was at Pine Bluffs cemetery. A vigil was held Monday, August 13 at the church.

She was born October 15, 1936, to Inez and Aldrich Nadeau at Pawtucket, R.I.

She married Roy Lee Madden June 11, 1955, at North Hollywood, Calif. She was a cook and teacher’s aide at Pine Bluffs School District #2.

She was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Pine Bluffs.

She was a member of the Altar Society/CCW, Starlighters Home Extension Group and Young at Heart Club.

She is survived by her mother Inez Nadeau of Pine Bluffs; sons Paul Madden of Pine Bluffs, Michael Madden and Christopher Madden, both of Cheyenne; daughters Bonnie Daugherty and Cheryl Madden, both of Concordia, Kan.; brother Gary Nadeau of Pine Bluffs; mother-in-law Eudean Madden of Kimball; eight grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and one step great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1995.

Memorials can be made to UMC Hospice or St. Paul’s Catholic Church.

Ernest LeRoy Halstead

Ernest LeRoy Halstead, 62, of Kimball, died Sunday, July 29, 2001, at Beverly Healthcare in Scottsbluff.

Cremation has taken place and services will be scheduled at a later date.

He is survived by his brother Oscar Halstead of Mulberry, Ark.

He was preceded in death by his parents Willie V. and Ellen Halstead; brother Willie and sister Lillie Bell.

Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Donations can be directed to the Hospice in Scottsbluff or Kimball.

Elsie Nelson

Elsie Nelson, 86, of Scottsbluff, formerly of Banner County, died Tuesday, August 7, 2001, at Heritage Health Care Center in Gering.

Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday at Kimball cemetery, Christus Gardens, on West highway 30. The Reverend Rick Sykes will officiate. Visitation hours will be 10:00 a.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday (today) at the Cantrell Funeral Home in Kimball.

She was born on August 28, 1914 in Eugene, Oregon to Wilhelm and Caroline (Semon) Becker. She received her education in California before moving to a farm in Banner County in 1930. She married Gilbert Nelson July 12, 1932 in Gering. They farmed for 50 years in Banner County before retiring and moving to Scottsbluff in 1981.

She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Kimball.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Robert Gascoyne of Rochester, NY; daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Gene Willoughby of

LaGrange, Wyo.; daughter, Florence Nelson Rudnik of Snyder, Colo.; son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Arthee Nelson of Scottsbluff, Neb., and daughter and son-in-law, Virginia and Bob Young of Gering, Neb.; 16 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 3 great great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband on February 16, 1980, her sisters and brothers, one grandchild and 2 great grandchildren.

Memorial gifts may be made to the American Cancer Society. Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Rena M. Anderson

Rena M. Anderson, 82, of Pine Bluffs, Wyo., died Tuesday, July 31, 2001, at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 4, at the Kimball cemetery, with Elder Eldon Burkey officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, August 3, at the Cantrell Funeral Home.

She was born September 15, 1918, to Chris L. and Neta M. (Decker) Olsen at their ranch in Banner County. She attended school in Harrisburg, graduating in 1937 from Harrisburg High School.

She married Charles "Ivan" Anderson in Hugo, Colo. on January 23, 1939. They lived all of their married lives in Banner County, and were longtime residents of the Epworth Community. She was involved with the family farm and ranch until her death.

She was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Days Saints, and taught Sunday school. She was a member of the Daughters' of the Covenant and helped with the Zion's League.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Glynette and Dick Patton of Scottsbluff; son and daughter-in-law, Charles E. and Linda Anderson of Pine Bluffs, WY; four grandchildren; two great grandsons; one sister, Neva Scott of Gering; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband on April 18, 1992, her parents, one brother Clifford Olsen, one sister Helen Ruhl and two infant sisters Betty and Dorothy.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Banner County Fire and Rescue Department or the Albin Fire and Rescue Department.

Jack Windle Jarvis

Jack Windle Jarvis, 70, of Denver, died July 13, 2001, in Aurora, Colo. He was the father of Geri Ann Perry of Kimball.

Mass was held Wednesday at Holy Ghost Catholic Church. Interment was at Fort Logan National cemetery.

He was born May 15, 1931, in Sayre, Okla. On July 8, 1953, he married Eugenia R. Grethen. Her served as a yeoman third class in the Navy during the Korean War. He was awarded a Korean Service Medal and a United Nations Medal. He received a master’s degree in education and was a retired principal.

He was a member of the VFW, USS Toledo Association, American Legion and Athletic Directors Association.

He is survived by his wife, daughter Geri Ann Perry of Kimball; sons Shane Lexina of Kan., Blake of San Antonio and Greg of Parker; sister Alice Sherman of Elk City Okla.; brother James Ware of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and nine grandchildren.

Howard R. Yetter, Sr.

Howard R. Yetter, Sr., 73, of Potter, died at his home Sunday, July 22.

Memorial services were Saturday, July 28, at the First Lutheran Church in Potter, with Pastor Mary Frohs officiating. Inurnment was to be held at a later date.

He was born to Ray and Bessie (Baird) Yetter July 24, 1927, in Lewellen, Neb. He attended school in Lisco and Lewellen. He married Elvera Lipska on November 28, 1948.

He was a farmer and a ranch hand. He had worked for the railroad, the Sioux Ordinance Depot, drove water and semi-trailer trucks. He was an equipment operator for many oilfield contractors in Wyoming and Colorado. He traveled with his family band throughout the western United States and Canada as a singer and lead guitarist.

Survives include his father, Ray Yetter of Kimball; sisters Agnes Eisele of Kimball and Carmel Haney of Boone, Colo.; children Vikki Marshal of Phoenix, Ariz., Patti Rich of Reno, Nev., Martin Yetter and Howard Yetter, Jr, both of Winnemucca, Nev.; and 13 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elvera; his mother; granddaughter Rachel and a sister, Violet Van Housen.

Memorial contributions may be made in care of the family.
