William J. "Bill" Miners, 67, Wahoo, Nebraska passed away Monday, February 8, 2010 in Wahoo, Nebraska. He was born, October 5, 1942 in Wahoo to George W.C. Miners and Nadine K. (Smersh) Miners. Bill attended Wahoo Public Schools graduating from Wahoo High School in 1960. He then earned an Associates Degree from Luther College and a Bachelor's Degree from Wesleyan University. Bill loved photography and fixing up old cars especially his 1963 Rambler. He started a petition in Wahoo calling for a re-vote on the fluoride issue and its clarity. Bill taught chemistry, math and earth science at Mead High School, Valley High School, Silver Creek High School, Sprague-Martel High among others. He was also employed at the state laboratory in Lincoln, Helstar, Fairview, Wahoo Civic Center and most recently at Region V. Bill was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Wahoo

Bill was preceded by his father, grandparents, 3 uncles and 2 aunts. He is survived by his mother, Nadine Miners and sister, Nancy Miners both of Wahoo, NE cousins and families.

LaVerne Robert "Bob" Douglas was born to Maxie and Ethel (Matschuk) Douglas. He attended Iron Bluffs School District 13 near Elkhorn through the eighth grade and in 1944 graduated from Elkhorn High School where he enjoyed playing basketball. Bob enlisted in the US Navy on April 20, 1945 and was sent to the Great Lakes Naval Training Center in Chicago for eight weeks and then on to Alameda Air Station in Oakland, CA. He served on the USS Hoggatt Bay escort carrier, which had been converted to a troop carrier. They went to Saipan to pick up troops and brought them back to San Francisco, CA and right back to Okinawa for more troops to bring back to San Francisco. They took the ship through the Panama Canal to the Boston Naval Shipyards where the ship was decommissioned. He worked there scraping, sandblasting and painting the ship for several months. He was honorably discharged on July 27, 1946 in Minneapolis, MN. Upon returning home, he worked for Ralph Zimmerman feeding cattle. He also bought a truck with which he hauled grain and livestock and made trips to Arkansas to pick up posts. He worked on the Union Pacific Railroad Bridge Gang by Elkhorn for several months, building a bridge over the Papio Creek east of Elkhorn. Bob farmed the R.W. Douglas homestead near Elkhorn and moved to Malmo in 1970 where he raised corn, soybeans, dairy, poultry and eggs, swine farrowing to finishing and feeder cattle. He worked in real estate with Taylor & Martin and Don Peterson Associates. He also was a professional painter and had painted several rooms in the Pathfinder Hotel of Fremont finishing the day before the explosion. Bob was united in marriage to Helen Kratky on March 9, 1979 in Denver, CO. Bob was a member of the American Legion Post #232 in Malmo, the Saunders County Pork Producers, the Saunders County Livestock Feeders Association and had been a dedicated Red Cross blood donor.

Bob was preceded in death by brother in law Dick Backhus and survived by his wife Helen Douglas, daughter and son in law, Jane and Jim Heck, Lisbon, IA, sons and daughters in law, Steve and Nancy Douglas, Lincoln, NE, David and Diana Douglas, Weeping Water, NE, William "Bill" Douglas, Wahoo, NE, eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, sister Darlene Backhus, Omaha, NE, stepdaughters, Carol and Ken Meduna, Weston, NE, Roxane and Larry Graham, Lincoln, NE, brothers in law, Joe (Geraldine) Chmelka, Cedar Bluffs, NE, Leonard (Shirley) Chmelka, Malmo, sisters in law, Gladys (Joe) Cihal, Darlene Chmelka, all Malmo, nieces and nephews.

Tara J. Jha, age 41 of Wahoo, Nebraska died January 24, 2010 in Wahoo. Tara was born in Troy, New York on June 15, 1968 to Robert McBurney and Joyce Juckett. She is survived by husband Calvin Till of Wahoo, daughter Tiffany Yoakum, son Stephen Yoakum, both of Chadron, Nebraska, son Michael Jha, Wahoo, daughters Phoebe and Sophia Till, Wahoo, mother Joyce Juckette, Seattle, Washington, brothers Raymond, Seattle, Joel, Troy, New York and Arthur. Services are Friday, January 29, 11:00 am at Svoboda Funeral Home, Wahoo, NE with Rev. Charles Townsend, clergy. Visitation will be Friday, 9 to 11:00 am at Svoboda Funeral Home.

Phyllis died at South Haven Living Center in Wahoo after a battle with progressive supranuclear palsy. She was born to Frank and Bessie (Cihacek) Vybiral. Phyllis grew up in Colon and attended St. Wenceslaus Catholic School through tenth grade. She later graduated from Wahoo High School in 1953. She began working at the Wahoo City Hall offices and eventually became the City Clerk which continued for over twenty years. Phyllis was united in marriage to Delmar Nozicka on April 27, 1957 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wahoo. They made their home in Wahoo. Phyllis was community minded and served as mayor of Wahoo 1998-2002; was a member of American Legion Auxiliary Post #82 serving as Sergeant at Arms, Legislative Committee Chairman and Girls State Chairman; served as treasurer for Christmas on the Prairie; parishioner St. Wenceslaus Church, PCCW past president, St. Ludmilla Guild and Church Choir; member of Wahoo Coin Club, Class of '53 reunion organizer, Saunders County Hospital Auxiliary, Beer Can Collectors of America #24 of which she belonged to the Small Suds Sisters Chapter of BCCA, AARP and was a lifetime member of Girl Scouts of USA.

Phyllis was preceded in death by husband Delmar Nozicka, brother Frank Vybiral, parents. She is survived by daughters and sons in law, Paula and David Brabec, Wahoo, Lisa and Robert Martenson, Kearney, NE; grandchildren, Sarah, Scott and Emily Brabec, Courtney and Abbie Martenson; sister Carol LeClaire, Spirit Lake, IA; sister in law Marty Siegel, Bloomington, IL.

Mass of Christian Burial is Monday, January 25, 2010 at 10:00 AM at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wahoo. Clergy is Rev. Charles Townsend, casket bearers are Scott Brabec, Kevin Dunbar, Paul Warfield, Andrew Brabec, Ryan Welton and Alan Vybiral. Honorary casket bearers are George and Carolyn Welton, Rocky and Jean Rockwell, Vennie and Willa Lanik, Eddie and Irma Wendell.

Leonard J. Masek, age 84, resident of Touhy, NE passed away Thursday (4/1/10) in Lincoln, NE. Leonard was born January 18, 1926 in Weston, NE to William and Mary (Houska) Masek. He attended grade school in Weston and then graduated from Weston High School. Leonard was married to Maxine Jambor on June 20, 1950 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Prague. Leonard was a life time resident of the Touhy area. He was a long time buyer and seller of cattle. Leonard attended St. Vitus Catholic Church, Touhy.

Leonard was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine, son, Duane Masek, son in law, Tom Conneally, grandson, Jeremy Masek. He is survived by his daughters and son in law, Collette and Gary Evert of Lincoln, NE, Renee Conneally, Northville, MI, sons and daughter in law, Randy Masek and Roxanne Durbin of Lincoln, NE, Paul and Kim Masek of Malcolm, NE, grandchildren, Grant, Ethan and his wife Stephanie, Seth and Alison Evert, Annalee Masek, Jason and his wife Holli, and Brent Masek, Erin Conneally, sisters, Gladys Cajka of Wahoo, NE, Grace Carrier of Phoenix, AZ, Genevieve Muench of Cheney, WA, Georgianette Downen of Phoenix, AZ and 1 brother, Larry Masek of Touhy.

Robert D. "Poopy" Laudenback

Robert was born to Fritz and Bessie (Fencl) Laudenback. He grew up in Weston attending the elementary school there and graduating from Weston High School in 1949. He attended Luther College in Wahoo for two years after which he worked at the Mead Ordinance Plant. Robert was united in marriage to Mary Kvasnicka on June 26, 1954 in Crete, NE. They made their home in Wahoo and Robert began to work at Western Electric in Lincoln, NE. They moved to Lincoln for two years and when he was transferred to the Western Electric Plant in Omaha in 1956, they moved back to Wahoo. He retired from Western Electric after 38 years of employment. Robert was instrumental in beginning the youth softball and baseball programs in Wahoo. He was very active in coaching many ball teams as well as being the caretaker of Sam Crawford Field for many years. He volunteered often at the Wahoo Civic Center and served on the Civic Center Board. He was given the Aksarben Good Neighbor Award and was honored by having a baseball field at Hackberry Park named after him.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by wife Mary, children and spouses Steve Laudenback, Tulsa, OK, Debra and Brian Konecky, Columbus, NE, Mitch Laudenback, Omaha, NE, Larry Laudenback, Tulsa, OK, Susie and Eric Gottschalk, Connie Syverson, all of Wahoo, seven grandchildren, brother and sister in law Lawrence and Gerry Laudenback, Victorville, CA.

Memorial Service Tuesday, January 19, 2010, 10:30 AM at the Wahoo Civic Center with Rev. Carl Kramer officiating. Bearers are Steve, Mitch and Larry Laudenback, Brian Konecky and Eric Gottschalk. Honorary Bearers are Tim Laudenback, Mike and Andrew Konecky, Christine Syverson, Anna Gottschalk, Ty and Seth Syverson.

Esther was born in Bassett, NE on February 25, 1924 to Earl and Ida (Krueger) Baldwin. She grew up at Bassett, NE and was a 1942 graduate of Rock County High School. Esther attended Wayne State College and taught elementary school in several towns in Nebraska. She moved to West Point, NE where she met her husband, Lee Andresen whom she married March 3, 1945. They lived in Washington for one and a half years and moved to Columbus, NE for one year before moving to Wahoo in 1950. Esther opened the Cliff House in 1961 and operated it for ten years before leasing the facility. She opened the House of Beauty in 1967 and operated it until the mid 1970's. Esther had managed her rental homes since then. She was a member and past president of the VFW Auxiliary Post #4502.

Esther was preceded in death by her parents, infant daughter Josephine; grand daughter Nicki Sudik; brothers Ira and Elmer Baldwin.

Esther is survived by sons and daughter in law, Gary Andresen, Michael Andresen, Russell and Rhonda Andresen, Randall Andresen and his fiancé Mary Dailey, all of Wahoo, 13 grandchildren, many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, brother Edward Baldwin, Olympia, Washington, close friend Jacob Staska, Wahoo.

Funeral Service: Tuesday, January 12, 2010, 10:30 A.M. at Svoboda Funeral Home in Wahoo. Clergy: Rev. Darwin Garton, Honorary Bearers are her grandchildren.

Dorothy Ann Raiter was born on October 22, 1940 in Rural Valparaiso, NE to John G. and Anna J. (Moravec) Raiter. She grew up on a farm near Agnew, NE before moving to rural Ceresco, NE in 1953. She attended school in Agnew and School District #118 in rural Ceresco before graduating from Valparaiso high school in 1958. After High School Dorothy moved to Lincoln where she worked at Meadow Gold making cottage cheese for many years. She enjoyed oil painting, reading, cooking, traveling, sending cards to family and friends for all occasions, monthly physical therapy trips to the casino, family gatherings, playing table games and watching Husker football games. She was a member of the North American Martyrs Catholic Church in Lincoln, NE where she belonged to the Altar Rosary Society and several prayer groups. Dorothy passed away unexpectedly on Friday, January 1, 2010 in Lincoln, NE at the age of 69.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Patrick G. Raiter, nieces and nephew, twins Michael and Renee Raiter and Johanna Raiter, aunt, Julia Prochaska. She is survived by her son, Shawn Raiter, brothers and sister in law, John Lloyd and Carol Raiter, Ernest Joe Raiter, all of Ceresco, George Raiter and special friend Jeanne Tlamka, Anton Raiter, all of Lincoln, sisters and brother in law, Margaret and John Buhr of Raymond, and Susanne Raiter of Lincoln, nieces and nephews, Matt and Sheela Raiter of Lincoln, Andy and Mandy Raiter of Mead, Rebecca and Deborah Buhr of Lincoln, great niece Ashley Raiter of Lincoln, aunt and uncle, Alice and Ernest Moravec of Ulysses and special friend, Doris Ann Petrzilka.

Bohumil J. Fencl was born September 12, 1922, the youngest of eleven children, in Weston, NE to Frank and Victoria (Rerucha) Fencl. He grew up near Plasi, NE and attended Valparaiso High School. After farming in the area for a few years, he moved to an acreage near Davey, NE. Along with raising some cattle, Bo was good at welding, machining, mechanical work and construction. He was a furniture restorer at the State Capitol, worked as a welder and machinist at different companies and worked for a while at the Mead Ordinance Plant. He also built houses for a few years. When his health failed several years ago, he moved to South Haven Living Center in Wahoo.

Bohumil passed away December 31, 2011 at the Saunders Medical Center in Wahoo at the age of 89 years. Bo was always a happy fellow and a gentle man. He was free spirited and a jack of all trades. In his youth, he loved to play baseball and always enjoyed farming and horses. He did a lot of reading and always kept up on current affairs. He loved cats, yellow Labradors and almost all animals. Bo is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Thomas, Ludvik, Louis, Stanley and Rudy Fencl; infant brother Ladislav; sisters, Lillian Vyhlidal, Hattie Vyhlidal, Tillie Vachal and Albina O'Sullivan. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
