Donald P. Bartek was born in Prague, NE on March 17, 1951 to Frank A. and Frances (Koranda) Bartek. He attended District #115 school northwest of Valparaiso, NE, then Valparaiso High School for two years until it closed and later graduated from East Butler High School in 1969. Don farmed and raised cattle northwest of Valparaiso his whole life and also raised hogs for a while. He passed away at home on December 2, 2011 at the age of 60 years. Don was a longtime parishioner of St. Vitus Catholic Church in Touhy. Don loved to play pinochle and played cards almost every morning at Harry's Tavern in Valparaiso. He also loved his animals. Don was generous with his giving to missions and charities and helping to take care of St. Vitus Cemetery.

Don is survived by his sister and brother in law, Delores and Gordon Ratkovec, Weston, NE; his brothers, James and special friend Elaine Janak, Dwight, NE, Dennis and his wife Christine, Brainard, NE, and Ron and his wife Cheryl, Valparaiso, many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Stephen D. Stoakes was born April 29, 1947 in Omaha, NE to Gordon and Elda (Anderson) Stoakes. He was baptized at Alma Lutheran Church in Mead. Steve attended elementary school in Mead and graduated from Mead High School in 1965, where he enjoyed playing in all sports. He married Linda Pruess in 1966 and they initially lived on an acreage between Mead and Wahoo. They moved to Waco, NE where Steve and his cousin, Butch Roberts, operated a slaughterhouse. After moving to Gresham, NE, he worked for the Farmers Co-op in Rising City and Monroe, NE. In 1984, Steve was married to Dorene Howser. He began driving a truck for Sunflower and later Dudley Trucking. During the last 15 years, he lived in Lincoln, NE and worked for Cook’s Foods until health problems caused him to retire.

Steve passed away November 11, 2011 at St. Elizabeth Regional Medical Center in Lincoln at the age of 64 years. Steve loved playing cards and keno and going to the casino to play sizzlin’ sirens. He loved his grandchildren very much and liked to bring McGriddle breakfasts to them. In his younger days, he did a lot of hunting and fishing. Steve is remembered for his big heart and being a giving and generous person. He is survived by sons and daughters in law, Levi and Jessica Stoakes, Loveland, CO, and Chris and Dana Stoakes, Omaha, NE; grandchildren, Hayden, Hunter and Holten Stoakes; brothers and sisters in law, Mike and Dian Stoakes, Chuck and Bonna Stoakes, all of Lincoln, NE; sister and brother in law, Sandy and Terry Purcell, Mead, NE, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Elda, and sister Deanna Schultz.

Joseph P. Hrdlicka was born March 17, 1947 in Wahoo, Nebraska to Joseph and Josephine (Kadavy) Hrdlicka. He lived his early childhood in Yutan, Colon, and Wahoo. He attended grade school at District 87 and graduated from Wahoo High School in 1965. He attended J.F. Kennedy College in Wahoo, Nebraska and earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Biology and Education. He was employed at Green Acres Animal Clinic during high school. He was employed at Woodland Products in Mead as a Foreman of Pallet Production. He then worked for Wahoo Built in sales of agriculture building and homes in Nebraska, Kansas, and Missouri. In recent years, he was self-employed with sales, service, and installation of garage doors and overhead doors. He married Trudy (Anderson) on June 5, 1971 at St. Wenceslaus Church in Wahoo, Nebraska. They lived on a farm near Wahoo for seven years. Then they built a home outside of Yutan, Nebraska. They moved to Mead, Nebraska in April of 2001, where they still resided.

Joe passed away November 10, 2011 at Lakeside Hospital in Omaha. He is survived by wife Trudy; daughters Kellie (Travis) Backlund, Bennington, NE and Jill Hrdlicka, Mead; grandchildren Karsen, Jase, Kieryn, Kyla and Keaton; mother Josephine Hrdlicka, Wahoo; sisters Ellen (George) Gervase, Inez (Dennis) Basic, all of Omaha, and Donna (Bobby) Fraiche, Metarie, LA; brothers Tom (Jeanine) Hrdlicka, Wahoo; and Ivan Hrdlicka, Austin, TX; and nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his father Joseph E. Hrdlicka and sister Patty Twaddle.

Rose Webber, age 56, resident of Swedeburg, NE was born August 4, 1955 in Amarillo, TX to Allen and Lois (Hanson) Rengo. She graduated from Bellevue High School in 1973 and later received her degree in accounting from Southeast Community College in Lincoln, NE. While attending Southeast she enjoyed taking a variety of classes. Rose loved and lived for her grandchildren. She was a fanatic about music of all genres (especially Americana), her donkeys, horses, and dogs. Rose was married to her soul mate Curt Webber on October 16, 1998 in Plattsmouth, NE.

Rose was a longtime resident of Lincoln, NE before moving to Swedeburg thirteen years ago. She worked in accounting and sales for Cushman’s and Frontier Harley-Davidson in Lincoln, NE before working various jobs at Parker Hanifan in Lincoln before it closed in 2010. Most recently Rose had been working part time in the accounting department at the Saunders County Medical Center.

On Wednesday, November 9, 2011 Rose passed away in Wahoo, NE. She was a member of the Swedeburg Covenant Church and enjoyed volunteering at the City Impact in Lincoln where she helped young kids learn to read.

Rose was preceded in death by her grandparents and little donkey “Bingo.” She is survived by her husband, Curt Webber, Swedeburg, parents, Allen (Lois) Rengo, Bellevue, NE, children & spouses, Brian (Charlotte) Foster, St. Joseph, MO, Britt (Shawn) Reynolds, York, NE, Ralph "Bubba" (Krista) Manley, St. Augustine, FL, step children & spouses, ReAnna (B.J.) Hitz, Wahoo, NE, Phillip (Elizabeth) Webber, Fort Worth, TX, 10 grandchildren, brother and spouse, Rocky (Sue) Rengo, Bellevue, NE, sister, Donna States, Silverton, OR, mother in law, Helen Webber, Lincoln, NE, sisters in law & spouses, Marsha (Fred) Wagner, Walton, NE, Nancy (Bart) Holmquist, Eagle, NE, many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Cyril M. Kuncl was born in Prague on July 28, 1921 to Anton and Rose (Vavak) Kuncl. He served from December 1942 to January 1946 in the US Navy Seabees during WWII. After his discharge, he was a dominating pitcher for the Pioneer Baseball League and was considered by the Chicago Cubs. On November 23, 1948, Cyril was married to Wilma Novotny at St. Mary Catholic Church in Valparaiso, NE. They lived on a farm west of Prague where he farmed, raised capons, delivered gas for Hakel’s Skelly Service and raised five children. Cyril passed away November 8, 2011 at the Havelock Manor in Lincoln, NE at the age of 90 years. He was a parishioner of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and was an active member of the American Legion, first in Prague and then in Weston. Cyril was an active supporter of the Neumann High School Booster Club.

After retirement, he continued to support Neumann Athletics, do light farming, play cards and go fishing. He also enjoyed traveling with Moostash Joe to Alaska, Europe and around the country. He also went to the Holy Land through the Lincoln diocese. Cyril always had to be home between 10 and 11 a.m. to watch the Price is Right. Friends knew they could always reach him at those times because they knew he would be home. In the winter he would be in town playing cards, especially pitch thudoak. He was an avid fisherman, sometimes fishing in the evening to catch his supper. He also liked to eat squirrels. He had a hole in the screen of the bathroom window and if he saw a squirrel in the back yard, he would stick his gun through that hole and shoot himself a squirrel for dinner. After Cyril's wife Wilma died, he would always help out his sister Rosie in Wahoo by taking her to do her shopping or to doctor appointments in Lincoln or just to visit. He always went to daily mass.

Cyril is survived by daughters, Diane (Terry) Peirce, Eagle, NE, Laurie (Brian) Sjolseth, Dripping Springs, TX, Patricia (Rick) Smith, Nixa, MO, Wendy (Chris) Reber, Omaha, NE; son, David (Mary) Kuncl, Lincoln, NE; granddaughter Olivia Reber; sister, Vicki (Carl) Nelson, Wahoo, NE. Preceded in death by wife Wilma; brothers, Ernest, Charles, Joe, Victor, Tony and Henry; sisters, Cecilia Edins, Betty Kremla and Rose Cink.

Claudia Ann Wacha Kucera, 102 years, formerly of Omaha, NE died Oct0ber 10, 2011 at Birchwood Manor, North Bend, NE. She was born in Clarkson, NE on October 31, 1908 to Julius and Klotida (Vitek) Wacha.

She was preceded in death by husband Joseph T. Kucera and survived by daughters, Roberta A. Rigatuso and husband Pete, Omaha, and Joan C. Hinkle, Rosemount, MN; five grandchildren, Larry, Linda (Josh), Lee (Dana), Todd (Kim), and Traci (Robb); ten great grandchildren, Alex, Landon, Blake, Bryce, Mckenzie, Ella, Jordon, Chad, Marissa and Reagan.

Vennie Meduna was born April 16, 1917 to William and Agnes (koutny) Meduna. Vennie grew up near Colon and attended a country school south of town and high school in Colon. He farmed with his father for several years. On March 8, 1943, he married Rose Pacula at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Weston, NE. They lived on their farm north of Colon until moving into Colon in 1966. Vennie was a lifelong farmer and besides raising crops, he fed cattle and hogs. Vennie loved all his grandchildren and the family get togethers. He enjoyed coming out to the farm at 3:30 pm every day for "pop time". He liked his IHC tractors and he knew about everything there was to know about them. He liked going to antique tractor shows, reading and polka music. He could play the button accordion and in his younger days enjoyed playing the clarinet.

On September 29, 2011 Vennie passed away at A.J. Merrick Manor in Fremont, Nebraska at the age of 94 years. He was a lifelong parishioner at St. Joseph Catholic Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #1833, the Saunders County Livestock Feeders Association, the Colon Volunteer Fire Department and a past member of the NFO.

Vennie is survived by his wife Rose; son and daughter in law Richard and Alice Meduna, all of Colon; grandchildren, William (Becky) Meduna, Colon, Dr. Mary Meduna, Chicago, IL, Susan (Allen) Chohon, Wahoo, NE; great grandchildren, Christopher, Sarah, Anna, Isaac, Paul, Max, Joe, Lena and Gabriel Meduna, John, Alicia, Therese, Philip, Monica, Grace, Peter and James Chohan; sister Marie Bouc, Colon; nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by infant grandson Mark J. Meduna, great grandson Francis Luke Meduna, sister Blanche Booth.

Gladys H. Koranda, age 83, of Wahoo, NE died Tuesday September 27, 2011 at South Haven Living Center in Wahoo. She was born May 11, 1928 in Rural Colon, NE to James and Maymie (Chmelka) Hula. Gladys attended District School #70 northwest of Wahoo before graduating from Malmo High School in 1946. Gladys loved to play bingo, travel and go camping. She also enjoyed crocheting.

On May 3, 1955, Gladys was married to Frank J. Koranda at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Wahoo, NE. They lived in rural Saunders County until moving to Wahoo in 1962. Gladys worked as a housekeeper and cook for the Saunders County Poor Farm, as a telephone operator for the Lincoln Telephone Company, for many years as a waitress at the Fairview Café in Wahoo and for a short time as a housekeeper at the Saunders County Hospital. She was a life time member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wahoo.

Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, son in law, David “Nick” Holmes, and brothers in law, Dennis Novacek, Rudy Ludvik. She is survived by her husband of 56 years Frank J. of Wahoo, NE, children and spouses, Steve and Diann Koranda, Karen Holmes, Dwayne and Liz Koranda, Frank A. and Deb Koranda, all of Wahoo, Cheryl Needham of Victorville, CA. 19 Grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, sister, Lillian Ludvik of Wahoo, brother, Ray Hula of Colon, NE, sister in law, Adeline Novacek of Omaha, NE, brothers in law and spouses, Leonard and Margo Koranda of Wahoo, Bob and RoseAnn Koranda of Prague, NE, many other relatives and friends.
