Frances Koziol

Frances S. Koziol, age 88 of Columbus died Wednesday; January 15, 2003 at Beverly Health Care in Columbus. Funeral services are 10: 30 a.m. Friday; January 17, 2002 at St. Anthony Catholic Church. The Rev. Christopher Grimmond will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday 4-8 p.m. There will be a 4: 00 p.m. rosary and a 7: 00 p.m. vigil all at the funeral home on Thursday. Visitation will continue Friday morning 8: 00 a.m. until 10: 00 a.m. at McKown Funeral Home.

Frances S. Koziol was born May 10, 1914 in Polk County, Nebraska to John and Balbina (Tryba) Micek. She received her education in rural Polk County Schools. On June 24, 1947 she married Emil Koziol in Osceola, Nebraska. In 1974 Frances and Emil moved into Columbus. She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, St. Theresa Sodality and Legion of Mary. Frances was very involved with volunteering her time. She worked nearly every funeral dinner and was and volunteered with the Red Cross Blood Mobile. She enjoyed quilting and visiting with her friends.

Marvin "Moon" Dickenson

Marvin Dickenson, 75, of Columbus died Friday, January 17, 2003 at Bryan LGH East in Lincoln. Services are 10: 30 am Tuesday, January 21 at the First United Methodist Church in Columbus with the Rev. Gary Main officiating. Visitation is on Monday from 4-8 pm at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation continues on Tuesday from 9: 30 am until service time at the Methodist Church. Interment is in Roselawn Memorial Cemetery with military honors by Hartman Post #84 American Legion Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to the donors choice.

Marvin "Moon" Dickenson was born July 25, 1927 in St. Edward to Filmore and Blanche (Creery) Dickenson. He grew up in St. Edward and Spirit Lake, IA, attending schools in each. Moon entered the US Navy during WWII where he was aboard the USS Valencia. He returned from the service and married Donaldeen Goodman on March 25, 1948 in Lawrence, KS. He started in the trucking business at an early age helping his father. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for a construction company in Iowa before returning to Columbus. In Columbus he was an owner/operator in the Transportation department of Behlen Mfg. Along with Jack Van Berg, Moon started Moonliner, Inc., a livestock hauling operation. In his later years he owned/operated Dickenson Transportation until 1998. He was an avid Sprint Car enthusiast, enjoyed golf, was a Husker fan since youth, and enjoyed traveling in his R.V. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Columbus where he was an usher and served on the Missions Committee. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Eagles Club, and the Elks Club. He was a loving son, husband, father, brother and grandfather who loved attending his grandchildren's events.

Paul E. Robak

Paul E. Robak, age 64, of Duncan, Nebraska died Friday January 31, 2003 at his sister's home in Duncan. Funeral Services are 10: 30 a.m. Monday February 3, 2003 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Duncan with Reverend Dave Korth officiating. Burial is in the St. Stanislaus Cemetery with military honors. Visitation is 4: 00 p.m. - 8: 00 p.m. Sunday with a 7: 00 p.m. Vigil Service at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus. Visitation will continue Monday morning from 9: 30 a.m. - service time at the church.

Paul Robak was born July 3, 1938 in Columbus, Nebraska to Peter and Theodosia (Szewczyk) Robak. Paul graduated from Duncan High School in 1956. He served in the United States Army from October 16, 1956 - October 15, 1958. He then lived in Duncan and worked for Behlen Manufacturing concrete construction crew before moving to Omaha where he worked for Sweet Brick and Masonary. He then returned to Duncan where he worked construction for various companies before starting his own construction company. He was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Holy Name Society, and the Duncan Volunteer Fire Department. He was an avid stockcar racing fan and enjoyed bowling and fishing.

Lawrence J. Stachura

Lawrence J. Stachura, age 82 of Rising City, formerly of Duncan, died Tuesday; January 7, 2003 at the Columbus Community Hospital. Funeral services are 10: 30 a.m. Friday; January 10, 2003 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Duncan. The Rev. Dave Korth will officiate. Burial with military honors will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation is Thursday after 5: 00 p.m. at the church. A vigil will be held at 7: 00 p.m. at the church. Visitation will continue Friday morning 9: 30 a.m. until service time at the church.

Lawrence J. Stachura was born June 26, 1920 in Polk County, Nebraska to Steve and Belle (Cuba) Stachura. He received his education in District #55 in rural Polk County. He served in the United States Army from October 24, 1941 until January 5, 1946. He was married to Martha M. Micek on June 16, 1953 at St. Mary's Catholic Church-Pilsno. He farmed in Polk County for 44 years with his brother Leonard. Following his retirement in 2000 he moved to Rising City. Lawrence was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Holy Name and V.F.W. Post #10724

Darlene W. Nelson

Darlene W. Nelson, age 74, of Columbus, Nebraska died Sunday February 23, 2003 at the Columbus Community Hospital. Funeral Services are 10: 30 a.m. Wednesday February 26, 2003 at the First Baptist Church in Columbus with Reverend Tom Washington officiating. Burial will be in the Columbus Cemetery. Visitation is from 4: 00 p.m. until 8: 00 p.m. Tuesday at McKown Funeral Home and 9: 30 a.m. until 10: 30 a.m. Wednesday at the Church. Memorials may be directed to Donors Choice.

Darlene W. Nelson was born June 11, 1928 in Petersburg, Nebraska to Harold and Nora (Worden) Munsinger. She attended school in Petersburg. On June 25, 1950 she was united in marriage to Bernard Nelson in Fremont, Nebraska. The couple lived in Columbus where Darlene worked for Becton-Dickinson, A & M Veterinarian Clinic, and Dale Electronics. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Daughters of the American Revolution, Nebraska State Genealogical Society, and Kinseekers. Darlene enjoyed woodcarving, pottery restoration, collecting antiques, genealogical studies, and computer work.

Elaine M. Sprague

Elaine M. Sprague, 80, of Columbus died Tuesday, February 11, 2003 at Columbus Community Hospital. Memorial services are 10: 30 am Saturday, February 15, 2003 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Columbus with the Rev. Roland Jank officiating. There will be a family prayer service at 10: 15 am Saturday, also at the church. Interment will be in the O'Neill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family wishes.

Elaine M. Sprague was born June 23, 1922 in rural Colfax County to Emil and Augusta (Kroeger) Hoff. She grew up in rural Leigh and graduated from Leigh High School in 1940. She married Laurin W. Hespe on May 29, 1941 in rural Schuyler. He died in April of 1975. Elaine married Otto Sprague on October 14, 1977 in O'Neill. Otto passed away in May of 1989. Elaine lived and worked at the Tilden, NE motel, several years at BD's in Columbus, as a dietician at Valley Hope in O'Neill, and worked for a short time at Dale's in Norfolk. Elaine lived in several locations throughout her life including New Hampshire, Texas, Lynch, NE, Butte, NE, and Battle Creek, NE. Elaine was a volunteer at the Columbus Senior Center, member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Immanuel Country Ladies Aid, Bible study group, and was past president of the Heritage House Club.

Iris I. Taylor

Iris I. Taylor, age 62 of Albion, Nebraska died Tuesday; February 18, 2003 at her home in rural Albion with her husband Don and her daughter Patty at her side after a long battle with cancer. Funeral services are 4: 30 p.m. Saturday, March 1, 2003 at the First Baptist Church in Albion. The Rev. Timothy Stahl will officiate. Interment will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery.

Iris I. Taylor was born March 2, 1940 on the family farm in Chambers, Nebraska to Lewis and Mabel (Wauhob) Rothchild. She grew up in the Neligh and Oakdale, Nebraska areas. She graduated from High School and was married to Donald Taylor on September 1, 1955 in Albion, Nebraska. They moved to West Virginia where Don was in the military, later returning to the state of Nebraska. She worked as a cook at various restaurants for several years including the Villa Inn and Daylight Donuts in Albion. Iris' hobbies include traveling, crocheting, embroidery, gardening, and going to the casino.

Donald Petermann, Sr., 59, of Columbus, Nebraska died Friday, March 7, 2003 at the Columbus Community Hospital. Funeral Services are 10: 30 a.m. Tuesday March 11, 2003 at the Federated Church in Columbus with Reverend Don Wilson officiating. Burial is in the Columbus Cemetery. Visitation is 4: 00 p.m. - 8: 00 p.m. Monday at McKown Funeral Home and 9: 30 a.m. - 10: 30 a.m. Tuesday at the Church.

Donald Petermann was born March 30, 1943 in Columbus, Nebraska to Bernard and Mary (Loeffler) Petermann, Sr. He grew up in Columbus and graduated from St. Bonaventure High School in 1962. He married Mary Ann Romshek on December 5, 1969 in Schuyler, Nebraska. Don worked for Becton - Dickinson from 1963 - 1998 and then went to work at the Columbus Middle School. He was a member of the Eagles Club and enjoyed playing bingo, putting together puzzles and models, car shows, grilling, gardening, and watching his grandchildren play sports.

Edna Macon

Edna Macon, 83, of Columbus died Sunday, March 9, 2003 at Columbus Community Hospital. Memorial services will be held at 7: 30 pm Monday, April 7, 2003 at the Federated Church in Columbus.

Edna Macon was born October 11, 1919 in East Chicago, Indiana to Albert & Elizabeth Fisher. She attended nurses training at West Suburban Hospital in Oak Park, Illinois and married John Vannort Shackelford in Hammond, Indiana on April 25, 1942. She was a long time resident of Los Altos California where she worked for the Palo Alto Medical Clinic, before retiring to Tucson, Arizona. While living in Columbus, she attended the Federated Church. She was devoted to her family and enjoyed cooking, Bridge and charitable works in her later years.

She is survived by daughters Ruth Crawford of Idaho, Peggy Cunha and Laura Shackelford of California, and Reba Sams of Columbus, Nebraska.
