DELMER BERNARD HERSH
RED CLOUD

Funeral services for Delmer Bernard Hersh, 86, of Red Cloud, were Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001, at the First United Methodist Church in Red Cloud, with Rev. Anderson Kwankin officiating. Interment was in the Red Cloud Cemetery. He died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, at Bryan-LGH East in Lincoln.
Delmer was born Feb. 23, 1914, to Harry Edwin and Harriett (Wilmot) Hersh.
Delmer attended District 3 and graduated from Inavale High School in 1934. He married Mary Annabelle Kish March 9, 1937, in Rock Port, Mo. They returned to Nebraska the day after they were married. He farmed with horses before he got his first tractor in 1939. He also worked at the commodity credit bin site from 1958-1969. For many years, Delmer farmed with his sons Rodger and Richard. He retired in 1980.
In his leisure time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Following his retirement, Delmer always looked forward to daily drives he and Ann took. His greatest pride and joy in life was for his family, and he cherished the time they spent together. He was especially proud when the Hersh family was named the 1992 Great Nebraska Family.
Survivors include his wife, Ann; four sons, James (Marilynn) Hersh, Lexington, Rodger (Jody) Hersh of Red Cloud, Richard (Debbie) Hersh, Inavale, and Greg (Kathy) Hersh, Red Cloud; four daughters, Angela Duca of Denver, Colo., Barbara (Don) Saladen of Grand Island, Beverlee Bornemeier of Lincoln, and Margaret (Roger) Gatz, Hiawatha, Kan.; 19 Grandchildren Brian, Barbara and Beth Hersh, Tracy and Sandy Saladen, Abbie and Elli Bornemeier, Taylor and Jennifer Gatz, Walker and Parker Gatz, Krystal and Ryan Zimmerman, Brandon and Marci Hersh, Jeannie, Pat and Joe Hersh, Michael, Nichole, Jeremy, Marcie, Chance and Blaine Hersh; four great-grandchildren, Isabella and Alainie Hersh, Sarah and Mallory Saladen; and other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents, a brother, Henry Hersh, and two sisters, Leola Taber and Mona Luttrell.
Simonson-Williams Funeral Home of Red Cloud was in charge of arrangements.

TEDDY B. 'TED' JORGES
Elwood

Funeral services for Teddy B. (Ted) Jorges, 69, of Elwood will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 18, 2001, at the First Christian Church in Elwood. Burial will be in the Elwood Cemetery, with military honors.
Ted passed away Sunday, April 15, 2001, at his home in Elwood.
He was born Feb. 24, 1932, at Elwood to Herman W. and Edith Boss Jorges Sr.
Ted graduated from Elwood High School in 1950. On April 11, 1952, he was married to Lois LeMaster at Elwood.
He served for 26 years in the United States Air Force, retiring in 1976. During his military career, he served on tours in the Philippines and Spain. He also served two tours of duty in Vietnam during the war. His military recognition included the Bronze Star, Air Force Commendation Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Ribbon.
Following his discharge they moved to Bellvue, where he owned and operated a power equipment business and was active in antique work. He was a member and elder for the First Christian Church at Elwood and was a member and Past Commander of Elwood American Legion Post 290.
Survivors include, his wife Lois; three sons, William Jorges and James Jorges both of Elwood and Gerry Jorges of Bellvue; two daughters, Pamela (Glenn) Drum of Dalzell, S.C., and Kelly (Rick) Taylor of Bellvue; one brother, David "Ike" Jorges of Holdrege; three grandsons, Christopher Jorges of Lincoln, Tracy Jorges of Omaha and Corey Taylor of Bellvue; three granddaughters, Monica Smith of Leesburg, Va., Cassie Drum of Dalzell, S.C., and Brandy Taylor of Bellevue.
He was preceded in death by his parents, nine sisters, and five brothers.
Memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church or the American Legion Baseball program.

BEVERLY ANN WARD
Kearney

Funeral services for Beverly Ann Ward, 67, of Kearney, formerly of Lexington, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 19, 2001, at the First Presbyterian Church in Lexington, with Rev. Floyd H. Starr II officiating. Burial will be in the Cozad Cemetery at Cozad. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 18, from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington.
She died Sunday, April 15, 2001, at the Mt. Carmel Home in Kearney.
Beverly was born Jan. 29, 1934, at Cozad to Guy and Angie (Biddle) Adams.

Beverly grew up in Cozad and graduated from Cozad High School in 1952. She married Robert Ward on March 7, 1954, in Lexington.
She worked at Farmer's State Bank in Lexington for 37 years as a teller and later as a cashier.
She enjoyed her years at the bank, going to the lake and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include one son, David Ward of Kearney; one brother, Melvin Adams of Yuba City, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bob on Jan. 24, 2001, two sisters, Mildred and Dorothy Mae, and one brother, Merle.
Memorials are suggested to the Ward Family.

W. TILDEN JONES
LEXINGTON

A Remembrance Open House for W. Tilden Jones, 75, of Lexington, will be held Saturday, March 3, 2001, 2-5 p.m., at Camp Arrowhead near Lexington for family and friends. He died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, at his home.
He was born June 7, 1925, at San Antonio, Texas, to Worthie Tilden and Annie E. (Burk) Jones, Sr.
He grew up and attended school in Texas and New Mexico, graduating from high school in Mathis, Texas, as valedictorian of his class. He then went on to further his education at Southwestern Junior College at Keene, Texas, where he graduated salutatorian. He then received his bachelor of science degree from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, graduating with honors.
Jones served in the United States Army during World War II, from Oct. 22, 1943, to April 26, 1946.
He married Patricia Burnette on Aug. 15, 1948, at San Antonio, Texas. The couple moved several times during their married life, living several places in Nebraska including Lexington, Lincoln, Aurora and back to Lexington. He worked as the Service Manager at Century Manufacturing Co.,in Aurora and returned to Lexington in 1991, where the couple were in charge of Camp Arrowhead.
Survivors include his wife, Pat; one son T.J. (Linda) Jones of Aurora; two daughters Susan (Clark) Nichols of Scottsbluff and Helen Ann Jones, Denver, Colo.; a beloved extra daughter, Ruth Kotten of Denver, Colo.; nephew, Tom Burnette of San Antonio, Texas; one sister, Ava Gerrans of Lexington; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorials are suggested to the Camp Arrowhead Improvement Fund.

MICHAEL E. LAUBY
Johnson Lake

A memorial mass for Michael E. Lauby, 81, of Johnson Lake, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 21, 2001, at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Lexington, with Rev. Don Buhrman officiating. A wake service will be Friday, April 20, at 7:30 p.m. at the church. Inurnment will be in the St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery at Lexington.
Mike died Thursday, April 12, 2001, at Mesa, Arizona.
He was born Nov. 14, 1919, at Lexington to Michael J. and Elizabeth (Kjar) Lauby. Mike was raised in Dawson County where he lived his entire life except when he went to school in Denver, Colo. He graduated from Regis High School in Denver in 1938.
He was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Lexington as well as the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the Dawson County Cattle Feeders Association.
Mike was married to LaVaughn Brodine June 4, 1938, at Lexington.
Survivors include, his wife, LaVaughn of Johnson Lake; three sons, Gerald M. Lauby of Lexington, David (Lisa) Lauby of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Mike Lauby of Phoenix, Ariz.; two daughters, Lynda (Rich) Grandgenett of Tekamah and Michele (Mark) Ferguson of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; two brothers, Chris (Leota Mae) Lauby of Lexington and Steve Lauby of Lexington; one sister, Theresa Kuhlman of Chandler, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren, Heather, Justin, Tyson and Noah Lauby, Kristi and Dennis Sexton, Tony Ferguson, Eric and Allison Grandgenett, Dana and Mark Van Bemmel, Julie Grandgenett and David and James Wasson; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Louis, two sisters, Marguerit and Helen, and one great-grandson, Christian.
The body was cremated in Arizona. Memorials are suggested to the St. Ann's Catholic Church Foundation or the donor's choice.

ELIZABETH A. "BETTY" HOLEN
DENVER, COLO.

Funeral services for Elizabeth A. "Betty" Holen, 67, of Denver, Colo., will be conducted at the Nelson-Harris Funeral Home, Holdrege, Thursday, March 1, 2001, at 1:30 p.m., with the Rev. Melva Tranmer officiating. Interment will be in the Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege. She died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001, at St. Anthony's Central Hospital in Denver.
She was born Jan. 7, 1934, to William and Iva (Potter) Magill, on a farm northeast of Holdrege.
She attended rural school in Phelps County and attended Loomis High School graduating with the class of 1951.
She married Neil Holen in December 1960. Following her graduation, Betty was employed as a bookkeeper and receptionist for the Holdrege Daily Citizen. She was also employed as the bookkeeper for Midway Auto Supply in Lexington. For the past several years, until her retirement, she was the accounting supervisor for Capitol Engraving in Denver.
Survivors include two sisters May (Joe) Rocchio of Denver, Colo., and Lucille (Virsel) Woodard of Evans, Colo.; two brothers Robert (Bernice) Magill and Jay (Shirley) Magill, all of Holdrege; five nieces Rosie (Dean) Leopold of Loomis, Elaine (John) Wert of Lincoln, Shirley (Arnold) Falk of Omaha, Mary Magill of Holdrege and Darcie (Alan) Bailey of Kansas; a nephew, Michael Magill of Holdrege; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Harold and Francis Magill, and two sisters-in-law, Goldie Magill and Alyce Magill.
A memorial has been established in her memory.

WILLIAM H. "BILL" DENKER
Lexington

Funeral services for William H. "Bill" Denker, 74, of Lexington will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 18, 2001, at the First Presbyterian Church in Lexington, with Revs. Floyd H. Starr II and Steve Deines officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the Greenwood Cemetery at Lexington.
Bill died Saturday, April 14, 2001, at the Tri-County Hospital in Lexington.
He was born Dec. 19, 1926, at Omaha to Herman and Elsa (Stark) Denker.
Bill grew up in the Omaha area, graduating from Elkhorn High School with the class of 1944. He then went on to serve his country in the United States Navy during World War II from 1944 to 1946.
Following his stint in the Navy he attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where he received a degree in business administration. While at the University, Bill played basketball and baseball, and was a four-year letter winner in baseball and a member of ATO Fraternity. It was while he was attending the University that he met his future bride, Marian Kathryn (Kay) Menke of Lexington. The couple was married Oct. 22, 1950, at the Buffalo Grove Presbyterian Church near Lexington.
The couple moved to Lexington where Bill was first employed by Harold Wheeler at Wheeler Chevrolet and then by the REA. He then went to work for his father-in-law, Marion Menke, on the family farm, where he worked the land and fed cattle, he was still active with the operation until his death. During the early years of his farming, Bill was active with the Kansas City Stockyard.
Bill enjoyed many hobbies, but his first love was baseball. When he was a young man he played third base on the Nebraska Independent League as well as the Pioneer Night League. His love of baseball carried down to his own sons, who he helped coach in baseball, and later loved to watch his grandsons play ball as well. He was always involved in some way with the kids' sports and activities. He also enjoyed horse racing.
Locally, Bill was involved with the Lexington Rotary Club, a past president of the T-Bone Club as well as a member of the Dawson County Fair Board. He was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
Statewide, Bill was elected to the Nebraska State Board of Agriculture in 1972. In 1985, he served on the executive board, and in 1997 was elected as president and served until 1998. He was very active with the University of Nebraska Beef Club and, in 1988, was inducted into the Nebraska Baseball Hall of Fame.
Survivors include his wife, Kay Denker; two sons, Mike (Karla) Denker of Lexington and Curt (Kandy) Denker of Lincoln; one daughter, Sarah (Bill) Carver of Omaha; nine grandchildren, Melissa, Todd, Brett and Greg Carver, Chris, Mitch and Chase Denker, and Megan and Tyler Denker.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Art.
Memorials are suggested to the Tri-County Hospital Hospice, the Lexington Baseball Association, the Lexington Volunteer Fire Department or the donor's choice.

PAUL TRAVES KRATZER
Lexington

Funeral services for Paul Traves Kratzer, 86, of Lexington, will be held Thursday, May 11, 2000, at 10 a.m. at Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington with Rev. Cathy Cole officiating. Burial will be in the Lomax Cemetery at Eddyville. Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 10, 2000, from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington. Paul died Monday, May 8, 2000, at Tri-County Hospital in Lexington.
He was born March 24, 1914, in Litchfield to William Traves and Jeanette Driskell Kratzer. Paul attended school and spent his youth in the Litchfield area.
He married Thelma Ione Bell Sept. 23, 1938. They lived on farms in Dawson and Custer Counties until 1962 when they moved to Lexington. Paul worked for the City of Lexington in the Street Department until his retirement in 1979.
Paul enjoyed fishing, baseball games, yard and garden work, but mostly loved being with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a kind, loving and giving father and grandfather.
Survivors include: two sons, Rodney and Phyllis Kratzer of Lexington and Ronald and Linda Kratzer of Broken Bow; grandchildren, Mike and Lila Kratzer of Lexington, Ken Kratzer of Lexington, Jennifer and Paul Chapman of Lincoln, Scott and Staci Kratzer of Kearney and Brett and Heather Kratzer of Kearney and three great-granddaughters, Pam and Lindsay Kratzer of Lexington and Natalie Jo Kratzer of Kearney.
He was preceded in death by: his wife, Thelma Ione in 1989; an infant daughter, Florine; his parents; three sisters and six brothers.

EDNA L. KIESELHORST
Lexington

Funeral services for Edna L. Kieselhorst, 94, of Lexington will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, June 28, 2001, at the Berryman Funeral Home Chapel in Cozad, with Rev. Dan Cosson of the Grace Lutheran Church in Lexington officiating.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, June 29, 2001, at the Greenwood Cemetery at Sidney.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 27, 2001, at the Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad.
She died Monday, June 25, 2001, at the Cozad Hospital.
She was born Nov. 28, 1906, near Alma to Edward and Nancy (Sturman) Martin. She attended school in Arthur County.
Edna married W.L. Hayward and they made their home in Hyannis and Bridgeport.
She later married Edward Kieselhorst and they made their home in Sidney where she worked at the Ordnance Depot. After Mr. Kieselhorst's death in 1985, she moved to Alliance. She had made her home in Lexington for the past three years.
Survivors include a son, Bill (Eloise) Hayward of Cozad; a sister, Harriet Wilson of Arthur; a brother, Floyd Martin of Harrah, Okla.; and a granddaughter April Hayward of Abingdon, Ill.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward, a grandson, David Hayward, and three sisters, Barbara Brown, Ethel Atkins and Bessie Dawson.
A memorial has been established in her memory.
