Franklin, 73
FRANKLIN - Jean Smith, 73, of Franklin died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003, at her home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Franklin with the Revs. Baron and Nancy Cole.
There will be no visitation.
Hutchins Funeral Home in Franklin is in charge of arrangements.
She was born
Oct. 23, 1929, in Albion to James and Arlye (Sievers) Kinnier.
She attended Albion schools and graduated from Kearney State College.
On July 17, 1949, she married Don Smith in Omaha. They moved to Spalding.
In 1962, they moved to Franklin.
They were later divorced.
She was a kindergarten teacher in the Franklin Public Schools until she retied in 1995.
She was a member of the church. She sang in the choir and was a member of the Women's Fellowship.
Survivors include her daughters, Kimberly Bernhard of Colorado Springs, Colo., Victoria Colwell of Gardner, N.D., and Ramona of Murray, Ky.; sister, Rachel Agnew of Denver; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Ada Mason
Callaway resident, 90
CALLAWAY - Ada Marie Mason, 90, of Callaway, formerly of Oconto, died Saturday, April 12, 2003, at Good Samaritan Nursing Center in Callaway.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Callaway with the Rev. Dale Coates officiating. Burial will be at Rosehill Cemetery in Callaway.
Visitation will be until 8 p.m. today at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.
Memorials are suggested to the Oconto or Callaway United Methodist churches.
She was born
March 18, 1913, south of Callaway to William and Sarah (Garringer) Martin.
She grew up in the Redfern Table community and attended school there.
On Dec. 10, 1930, she married Isaac Mason in Kearney.
They lived on the Devine Ranch northeast of Oconto.
In 1944, the moved to the Hanson Table south of Callaway. In 1961, they moved to Litchfield.
In 1991, they moved to Oconto. Her husband died in 1997. In 1999, she moved to the care center in Callaway.
She enjoyed gardening and raising flowers.
Survivors include her sons, Warren of Yuma, Ariz., Marvin of Broken Bow and Keith of Litchfield; daughters, Milrae Dittmar and Isla Royle, both of Amherst; 18 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, 14 brothers and sisters, and a grandson.
Doris Taylor
Naponee resident, 65
NAPONEE - Doris J. Taylor, 65, of Naponee died Saturday, June 21, 2003, at her home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Hutchins Funeral Chapel in Franklin with the Rev. Duane Lauber officiating. Burial will be at Naponee Cemetery.
Visitation will be until 9 p.m. Monday and 8 a.m. to service time Tuesday, all at the funeral home.
She was born
Feb. 15, 1938, on a farm south of Riverton to Fred and Edna (Goebel) Schriner. She attended Griffin School south of Naponee.
The family moved south of Naponee to a farm in Phillips County, Kan.
In 1955, she moved to Naponee.
On Aug. 30, 1958, she and Floyd Taylor were married in Alma.
They farmed in the Naponee area. They moved to a farm north of Naponee in 1965, and she lived there until her death.
Her husband died July 3, 1995.
She was a member of Hicks-Siegel Post 364 American Legion Auxiliary in Naponee.
Survivors include her sons, Bryan of Grand Island, Melvin of Bloomington, Douglas of Hildreth and Warren of Glenvil; brothers, Marvin Schriner, Raymond Schriner and Maurice Schriner, all of Dodge City, Kan.; sisters Alma Avery of Kearney and Wilma Schriner of Franklin; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers one sister and one grandson.
Roy Vannier
Hildreth resident, 82
MINDEN - Roy Vannier, 82, of Hildreth died Friday, Aug. 8, 2003, at Kearney County Health Services Hospital in Minden.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hildreth with the Rev. Kim Stover officiating. Burial will be at St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery in Hildreth.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Jelden-Layton Funeral Home in Hildreth.
Vera Stoeger
Boelus resident, 83
KEARNEY - Vera Julianne Stoeger, 83, of Boelus died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, at Mount Carmel Home in Kearney.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rockville with the Rev. Tom Ryan officiating. Burial will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Cairo.
Visitation will be until 8 p.m. today at Apfel-O'Brien-Straatmann Funeral Home in Cairo. Rosary service will be at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Dannebrog/Boelus EMTs.
She was born
March 3, 1920, in rural Sherman County to Joseph and Minnie (Seifert) Young.
She attended Souleville Rural School and graduated from Boelus High School in1938.
On Feb. 14, 1941, she married Walter Stoeger in Farwell.
They ranched near the Rosebud Reservation in South Dakota until World War II.
After the war, they farmed south of Rockville until they retired to Boelus in 1970.
She was a baby sitter for families in Boelus.
Her husband died Nov. 30, 1976.
She belonged to the church in Rockville and its Altar Society, the Boelus American Legion Auxiliary and the Boelus Friendship Club.
She enjoyed making patchwork quilts, gardening, baking, cooking and spending time with family.
Survivors include her sons, Walter Jr. of Lincoln, Louis of North Platte and Frank of Grand Island; daughter, Janet Wilke of Kearney; brother, Edward Young of Rockville; sister, Norine Nielsen of Boelus; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
Manuel Zambrano
Lexington resident, 30
LEXINGTON - Manuel Zambrano, 30, of Lexington died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003, in a car-train accident in Lexington.
Arrangements are pending at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.
Leona Lee
Kearney resident, 56
KEARNEY - Leona Lee, 56, of Kearney died Friday, Jan. 30, 2004, at her home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary with the Rev. Dean Pofahl officiating. Burial will be at Kearney Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday and one hour before services Wednesday at the funeral home.
