Kearney, 82
KEARNEY - Vivian Darlene Leverenz, 82, of Kearney, formerly of Logan, Kan., died Friday, Feb. 21, 2003, at St. John's Good Samaritan Center in Kearney.
Services were Monday at Logan United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ron Lowry officiating. Burial was at Pleasant View Cemetery in Logan.
Memorials are suggested to the church in Logan.
Logan Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She was born
Dec. 20, 1920 in Logan to George and Leota (Pearson) Post.
In 1940, she married Milo Legg. They farmed in the Logan area until 1974. They later divorced.
In 1974, she moved to Chanute, Kan.
She married Cole Leverenz. They lived in Chanute. They were later divorced.
She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and the Country Club, all in Chanute.
She enjoyed playing golf, collecting bells, tending farm animals and spending time with family.
Survivors include her son, Kirby Legg of Gibbon; daughters, Berneta DeBoer of Kearney and Jeanene Stephen of Beaumont, Calif.; sister, Pat Blauser of Nampa, Idaho; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; half brothers, Carl Post of Midvale, Idaho, and Lester Post of Nampa; half sisters, Arnett Rosenberger of Nampa and Rosealee Farro of Ocean Port, N.J.; and stepmother, Arliss Faulconner of Nampa.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, a sister, a granddaughter and two half brothers.
Harold Stuehm
Kearney resident, 78
KEARNEY - Harold Stuehm, 78, of Kearney, formerly of Hildreth, died Sunday, April 13, 2003, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hildreth with the Rev. Kim Stover officiating. Burial will be at St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery near Hildreth.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Jelden-Layton Funeral Home in Hildreth.
Alice Schriner
Franklin resident, 93
FRANKLIN - Alice M. Schriner, 93, of Franklin died Monday, June 2, 2003, at Franklin County Memorial Hospital in Franklin.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Hutchins Funeral Chapel in Franklin with the Rev. Neil Kloppenborg officiating. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Franklin.
Visitation will be until 9 p.m. today, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 8 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home.
She was born
Feb. 9, 1910, on a farm six miles northeast of Franklin to Gustave and Elizabeth (Grebe) Grube.
She attended District 34 rural school, and graduated from Franklin High School in 1927. She received a teaching certificate and started teaching in fall 1927. She taught 22 years in Franklin County rural schools and three years at Minden Junior High School. She attended Kearney State College and received a two-year elementary teaching certificate.
In 1951 she moved to Hyannis where she taught for 24 years. While she was in the Sandhills, she graduated from Chadron State College.
After retiring, she was a substitute teacher. She lived in Hyannis another 20 years and moved back to Franklin in 1995.
She was a member of the UCC Church in Hyannis. After moving to Franklin, she joined the United Methodist Church. She was a member of the King's Daughters, the church's organization for women. She helped with the church bazaar and the church's Jumble Shop in Hyannis.
Survivors include her stepdaughter, Sharon Freund of Gardner, Kan.; two stepgrandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
Orville Stocker
Kenesaw resident, 69
KENESAW - Orville L. Stocker, 69, of Kenesaw died Sunday, Oct. 5, 2003, at Haven Home in Kenesaw.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Kenesaw with the Rev. Paul Duffy officiating. Burial will be at Kenesaw Cemetery.
Visitation will be until 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Jackson-Wilson Funeral Home in Kenesaw and one hour before services Wednesday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the Charcat-Marie Tooth Association in Chester, Pa., or to the church in Kenesaw.
He was born
May 29, 1934, on the family farm in Sherman County to Fredrick and Minnie (Kramer) Stocker.
He graduated from Ravenna High School in 1952.
He farmed at Ravenna and then worked for Turner Grain for 20 years.
He moved to Kenesaw in 1958.
On Feb. 12, 1966, he married Norma Evans in Kenesaw.
He owned and managed Scoular Grain in Kenesaw until he retired in 1990.
He was a member of the church in Kenesaw and was church treasurer for six years. He was a former Kenesaw School Board member, was on the Kenesaw Village Board for 29 years and was a member of the Kenesaw Senior Center.
Survivors include his wife; son, Mitchell of Kenesaw; brothers, Willard of Grand Island and Victor of Loup City; two grandchildren; stepson Michael Moul of Kenesaw; and two stepgrandchildren.
Robert Nutzman
Grand Island resident, 76
GRAND ISLAND - Robert Warren Nutzman, 76, of Grand Island died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004, at Nebraska Veterans Home in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10:30 Monday at First Christian Church in Grand Island with the Rev. Erin Curtis officiating. Burial will be at Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday with the family present from 5 to 6 p.m. at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home in Grand Island.
He was born
March 9, 1927, in Fairbury to Edwin and Ethel (Milliken) Nutzman.
On Aug. 5, 1951, he married Golda Gerdes in Edgar. She died Aug. 21, 1999.
Survivors include his son, Michael of Kearney; daughters, Sherry Lieske of Kearney and Kay of Grand Island; brother, Louis of Harpers Ferry, W. Va.; and sister, Dorothy Malaby of Sacramento, Calif.
Additional survivors include his grandson, Brett and his wife, Sarah, Lieske; grandchildren, Adam Lieske and Blair and Kelsey Nutzman; daughter-in-law, Tandra of Kearney; son-in-law, David Lieske of Kearney; sisters-in-law, Virginia of Harpers Ferry and DeEtte Gerdes of Evergreen, Colo.; brother-in-law, Ray Malaby of Sacramento; and numerous nephews and nieces.
He grew up in Hastings and graduated from Hastings High School and Hastings College.
On Feb. 20, 1951, he entered the U.S. Army. He served during the Korean War and was honorably discharged on Feb. 19, 1953.
He and his wife lived in Grand Island except for one year at Fort Ord, Calif. in 1961 when his Army Reserve Unit was activated. He was honorably discharged from the Reserve as a master sergeant in 1962.
They returned to Grand Island, and he returned to his job as an accountant for Orin Contryman and Associates. He worked as a public accountant his entire life. He retired from Bishop Co. and his private practice in 1997.
Following his retirement, he cared for his wife until she died.
He was a member of the church in Grand Island and was a deacon and past church treasurer. He was past president and past treasurer of the Cosmopolitan International Club of Grand Island and served on the Harvest of Harmony committee for years.
He enjoyed camping, officiating high school football, hunting, early morning walks, watching all kinds of sports and had an interest in trains. He also enjoyed playing cards with his card group and his family and friends.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, William and a sister, Betty.
Memorials are suggested to the church in Grand Island or the Cosmopolitan International Club.
Donald Williams
Kearney resident, 70
KEARNEY - Donald "Don" E. Williams, 70, of Kearney died Sunday, June 6, 2004, at Good Samaritan Hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Christian Church with the Rev. Don Bryant officiating. Burial of cremains will be in the columbarium at Kearney Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.
Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
He was born
Aug. 9, 1933, in Kearney to Horace and Anna (Youngquist) Williams.
On Nov. 22, 1953, he married Delores Burton in Kearney.
Survivors include his wife; and sisters, Corinne Harden and Dorothy Bragg, both of Kearney, Harriet White of Clinton, Tenn., and Beverly Poulson of Denver.
Additional survivors include nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.
He attended Emerson Elementary School and graduated from Kearney High School in 1951.
He was employed with Sears Roebuck, Northwestern Public Power, Good Samaritan Hospital and Platte Valley Medical Center. He enjoyed his work and co-workers until constant pain and failing health forced him to retire.
He was a very wise and gentle man. As a perfectionist, many friends and neighborhood children looked to him for advice, to repair things or just to visit. One friend described him as "A man of few words, but when he spoke you listened."
In past years he enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing. Baking was also a hobby; he enjoyed making pies, cakes and rolls to share with others.
In retirement, he looked forward to his weekly coffee and car rides with Gene Methe and computer chats, e-mail and phone calls from family and friends.
He also enjoyed walking with his dogs, Fred and Tinker.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Karen; his parents; and sister, Florence Reasland.
