Mary M. Garcia, 66, of 2911 Westside, died Saturday, August 12, 2000, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.

Services are pending with Curran Funeral Chapel.

Joshua Wilson

Joshua M. Beck Wilson, 17, of 8555 N. Webb Road, died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Curran Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Richard Urbach will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Mr. Wilson was born icon Nov. 28, 1982, at Grand Island to Janet (Beck) Wilson. He grew up and received his education in Grand Island. He attended Job Corps in Chadron and Tulsa, Okla. He was planning to attend Central Community College in Grand Island to study auto mechanics and auto body repair.

He was baptized in the Methodist faith.

He enjoyed weightlifting and cars.

Survivors include his mother; one brother, Zachariah of Grand Island; one sister, Brittina (Mrs. Jeff) Ross of Wood River; a grandmother, Mildred Beck of Grand Island; a grandfather, Eugene Beck of Scotia; aunts, uncles and two nephews.

Milton Ambrose

ST. PAUL -- Milton F. Ambrose, 75, of St. Paul, died Saturday, Aug. 12, 2000, at the Howard County Community Hospital in St. Paul.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Elba. The Revs. Larry Coulter, Andrew Gonda, Ray Kosmicki and David Rykwalder will officiate. Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery in St. Paul. Military honors will be presented by Carl Mogensen American Legion Post No. 119 of St. Paul.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, with a 7:30 p.m. vigil service at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul. Further visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the family or the Elba Public School music department.

Mr. Ambrose was born icon Dec. 7, 1924, in St. Paul to Edward and Rose (Mrkvicka) Ambrose.

He was raised in St. Paul and attended St. Paul schools, graduating from high school in 1941. He then attended St. Paul Business College for a year. He served in the U.S. Air Force from Dec. 15, 1942, until Feb. 8, 1946.

After his military service, Mr. Ambrose worked for the Bureau of Reclamation in Grand Island for two years. He then farmed between St. Paul and Elba.

He married Esther Jonak on Oct. 3, 1950, at Paplin. The couple farmed near Elba. They moved to the family farm near Elba in 1960, where Mr. Ambrose continued to farm.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Elba, the Carl Mogensen American Legion Post No. 119 of St. Paul, the Musicians Union, the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Grand Island and the Elks Club in Ord. Mr. Ambrose served on the Elba school board.

Survivors include his wife, Esther of St. Paul; three sons, Joe of Elba, Craig of St. Paul and Carl of Buckeye, Ariz.; two daughters, Beverly (Mrs. Michael) Fitzsimmons of Dannebrog and Michelle (Mrs. Roy) Boyle of Port Pirie, South Australia; and 13 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Alvin, and a sister, Olga Noble.

Mildred Hays

YORK -- Mildred L. Hays, 89 of York, died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2000, at The Hearthstone Care Center in York.

Mrs. Hays was cremated. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Giltner United Methodist Church with the Rev. Nora Leeds officiating. A private family service for burial of the ashes will be held at the Giltner Cemetery at a later time.

Memorials may be made to the care of the Giltner United Methodist Church. Lewis Funeral Chapel of York is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hays was born icon July 5, 1911, at Holyoke, Colo., to Rudolf and Estella (Menzie) Wunderlich. She attended grade school in Holyoke. When she was in the sixth grade, she moved with her family to Giltner. She graduated from Giltner High School in 1929.

She taught at Case District Country School near Giltner for two years. She married Bert W. Hays on June 7, 1931, at Giltner.

Mrs. Hays was a member of the County Extension Club at Giltner, the Giltner Women's Club, the American Federation of Women's Clubs, the library board in Giltner and the National Campers and Hikers Association.

She was a volunteer at the Plainsman Museum in Aurora; she was active in the local and Nebraska Chapters of the American Association of Retired Persons; and she served on the Governors Board on Aging.

Mrs. Hays was Past Worthy Matron of both the Giltner and Aurora Chapters of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of both the Giltner and Aurora United Methodist churches, where she was a longtime Sunday school teacher, youth fellowship leader, and Nebraska Conference annual delegate for the Giltner church.

Survivors include a daughter, Sheila A. (Mrs. Gary) Hubbard of York; two sons, E.W. "Will" of San Diego, Calif., and Wayne of Malibu, Calif.; a foster daughter, Faith Scott of Colony, Texas; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; five foster grandchildren; and a sister, Edith Gaymon of Denver.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1998; a sister, Leona Wunderlich, and a brother, Wilbur Wunderlich.

Jeanne Love-Cook

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. -- B. Jeanne Love-Cook, 53, of St. Joseph, Mo., died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2000, at her home following a lengthy illness.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Cathedral. Burial will be in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the Overland Park Regional Medical Center N.I.C.U. or St. Joseph Cathedral.

She was born icon Oct. 2, 1946, in Grand Island. She lived in Nebraska and Wyoming before moving to St. Joseph in 1976. She practiced as a respiratory therapist with the Overland Park Regional Medical Center, specializing in neonatal intensive care.

She married Leroy Winston Cook in St. Joseph on June 16, 1984.

She was a member of St. Joseph Cathedral and a charter member of the MS board of directors.

Survivors include her husband, two sons, Christopher Love and Collin Love, both of St. Joseph; a stepdaughter, Lea (Mrs. Alfred) Redman, of St. Joseph; four grandchildren; her mother, Dorothy Kissel of North Platte; and two sisters, Jere (Mrs. Mearl) Plunkett of St. Joseph and Debra Kissel of Omaha.

She was preceded in death by her father, Lloyd J. Kissel.

Lucile Harder

Lucile S. Harder, 82, of Grand Island died early Saturday morning, Aug. 12, 2000, at Park Place Nursing Center.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of the Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Quandt officiating. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday. Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.

Mrs. Harder was born icon Dec. 21, 1917, at Wayne to Richard and Tina (Rockemacker) Cross. She received her education in Wayne. She married Gilbert Harder on Aug. 31, 1935, at Wayne. They lived all their married lives in Grand Island. Because of failing health, Mrs. Gilbert has been a resident at Park Place for the past four years.

Survivors include her husband; four daughters, Joanne (Mrs. Dale) McAdams of Omaha, Joyce (Mrs. Kenneth) Hamburger of Marion, Kan., Donna Peters of Gainsville, Mo., and Nancy (Mrs. Johnnie) Bruns of Grand Island; 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; two great-great-granddaughters; and special loved ones, Ron and Janice Aye of Silver Creek.

She was preceded in death by six sisters, five brothers, a granddaughter and a great-granddaughter.

Ashley Stithem

Ashley Christine Stithem, 12, of Grand Island died Friday, Aug. 11, 2000, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the All Faiths Funeral Home. The Rev. Volney Lofgreen will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with the family receiving friends from 6 to 9 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Ashley was born icon Aug. 25, 1987, at Grand Island to Rick L. and Kelli L. (Stithem) Sader. She received her education through homebound services.

She enjoyed music, her stuffed animals and listening to other children playing.

Survivors include her parents; two brothers, Darron and Darrick Sader at home; and her grandfather, Al Motley of Grand Island.

She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Linda Motley and grandparents, Shirley and Verlie Johnston.

Helen Tooley

Helen Tooley, 90, of Grand Island died Friday, Aug. 11, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center.

Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Monday at the Central City Cemetery. Father Don Lamore will officiate.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to noon Monday at Kleine Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the St. Francis Medical Center Foundation.

Mrs. Tooley was born icon May 3, 1910, at College View. She graduated from College View High School in 1927 and went on to attend the University of Nebraska. She began working for Lincoln Telephone and Telegraph while in high school, eventually putting 13 years in with the company.

She married John Tooley on Dec. 16, 1938, at Fremont. The couple lived in Grand Island at Stolley State Park, where Mr. Tooley was the superintendent. Her husband died in 1957 and Tooley moved to Grand Island and began working for St. Francis Hospital's insurance department. She retired from the hospital and in 1975 began working for Dr. P.T. Sloss as his secretary. She retired again and spent time in her garden.

She was a member of the bridge club, the garden club and enjoyed reading books.

Survivors include two sons, John Tooley of Las Vegas and David Tooley of Lakewood, Colo.; two grandchildren, David Tooley and Kristin Seaman; and two great-grandchildren, Kortney Seaman and Evan Tooley.

She was preceded in death by two sisters.
