William Alexander

ORD -- William W. Alexander, 103, of Ord died Saturday, January 8, 2000, at the Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.

Services are pending at the Ord Memorial Chapel.

Agnes Duester

ROCKVILLE -- Agnes Duester, 88, of Rockville died Friday, Jan. 7, 2000 at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Church in Rockville with the Rev. Rod. Pruss officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Parish Cemetery in Rockville. A wake will be at 7 p.m. Monday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the church. Rasmussen Mortuary in Ravenna is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Duester was born icon April 19, 1911 in Howard County to Robert and Pauline (Rosczynialski) Wieczorek. She was educated in Howard County.

On Sept. 22, 1936, she married Vince Duester in Rockville. The couple lived on farms in Howard, Sherman and Greeley counties and moved to Rockville in 1964.

Mrs. Duester was a member of St. Mary's Church in Rockville and the Alter Society.

Survivors include three sons, Walter Duester of Rockville, Stanley Duester of Boelus and Daniel Duester of Rockville; one daughter, Dorothy Waltman of Omaha; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one sister, Florence Drown of Ravenna; and one brother, Stanley of Caldwell, Idaho.

She was preceded in death by her husband; one daughter; one son; two sisters; and three brothers.

Eugene Jensen

ST. EDWARD -- Eugene M. Jensen, 74, of St. Edward died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000 at the Boone County Health Center in Albion.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Ansgar Lutheran Church with the Rev. David Collins officiating. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery with military rites conducted by Crosier American Legion Post 226 of St. Edward.

Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Miller-Levander Funeral Home in St. Edward.

Mr. Jensen was born icon on April 12, 1925 to Sigurd and Valborg (Buhl) Jensen on a farm southwest of Lindsay. He attended Platte County District 40 School and Boone County District 31 School, and graduated from St. Edward High School in 1942. He attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and graduated with a degree in animal science in 1949.

On Feb. 15, 1945 he entered the U.S. Army and served in the Medical Corps before being discharged on Aug. 4, 1946.

He married Lucille Burke on Aug. 29, 1948, in Greeley. Mr. Jensen farmed and raised livestock and also taught a veterans class for production agriculture for two years in the St. Edward area.

Mr. Jensen was a lifetime member of the St. Ansgar Lutheran Church, and served on the school boards of District 31 and 17 Schools for about 25 years. He also was a member of the Nebraska Cattlemen's Association, president of the Scandia Mutual Insurance Company, president of the Rosenborg Cemetery Association, and a member of American Legion Post 226 of St. Edward.

His hobbies included attending livestock sales, hunting and fishing.

Survivors include two daughters, Susan Reeder of Olathe, Kan., and Sonja Jensen of St. Edward; two sons, Mark Jensen, and Ted Jensen, both of St. Edward; five grandchildren; and one sister, Eunice (Mrs. Art) Mann of O'Neill.

Mr. Jensen was preceded in death by his wife; one brother, Keith; and a son-in-law.

Clara Krolikowski

ORD -- Clara A. Krolikowski, 79, of Ord, formerly of Loup City, died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000, after an extended illness at the Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Josaphat's Catholic Church in Loup City. The Rev. Reginald A. Urban will officiate. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery at Loup City.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the church with a 5:30 p.m. sodality rosary and 7:30 p.m. vigil service.

Memorials are suggested to the Sherman County Historical Society or the Loup City Public Library.

Peters Funeral Home of Loup City is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Krolikowski was born icon Feb. 22, 1920, on the family farm in the Logan Township north of Loup City to Joseph and Veronica (Silver) Gembala. She grew up on the family farm and attended District 81 School and graduated from Loup City High School in 1937. Upon completing her education she worked at the County Superintendent's Office, the National Youth Association and the Fairmont Creamery in Loup City.

She married Don Krolikowski Nov. 25, 1942 at St. Josaphat's Catholic Church in Loup City.

The couple farmed north of Loup City on several farms in Logan Township for many years. After the death of her husband in March 1968 she continued to farm with her children until 1973 when she moved into Loup City. She then worked at the County Assessor's Office, Obie's Variety Store and Fisherman's Bar.

In 1980 she was elected as the first female Sherman County Supervisor. Following hip surgery in April 1997 she lived at the Valley County Nursing Home.

She enjoyed fishing, gardening and the outdoors.

She was a member of St. Josaphat's Catholic Church, the Council of Catholic Women and the Rosary Sodality, American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 48 and the Sherman County Historical Society.

Survivors include three daughters, Sharon (Mrs. Ron) Riskowski of Ord, Elaine (Mrs. Mark) Janulewicz of Fremont and Patti (Mrs. Lynn) Ford of Council Bluffs, Iowa; two sons, Don and Dave, both of Kearney; nine grandchildren; three brothers, Henry Gembala of Fair Oaks, Calif., Ray Gembala of Kearney and Jim Gembala of Loup City; and two sisters, Irene (Mrs. Earl) Klausen of Rockville and Eleanor (Mrs. Henry) Wilson of Loup City.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by one sister, Rose Kornmeyer and three brothers, Edward, Joseph and Ernest Gembala.

Walter Larson

STROMSBURG -- Walter L. Larson, 60, of Stromsburg died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000 at the VA Medical Center in Omaha.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Calvary Lutheran Church in Swede Home with Pastor Keith Brozek officiating. Burial will be in the Stromsburg Cemetery with military honors by the Stromsburg American Legion Post.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Kepner-Roberts Funeral Home in Osceola.

Mr. Larson was born icon on Jan. 30, 1939 in Clarks to J.E. Walter and Blanche (Sweenie) Larson.

He graduated from Stromsburg High School, and later farmed and worked at the Husker Co-op in Osceola and served in the U.S. Navy from 1957 to 1961. He was a member of the Elks Lodge in York.

Survivors include one daughter, Amy Jo Lambert of York; three brothers, Gayle Larson of Hastings, Frank Larson of Santa Fe, N.M., and Jerome Larson of Alda; two grandchildren; and one sister, Jeanice Nitz of Aurora.

Hilbert Newquist

FULLERTON -- Hilbert "Lucky" Newquist, 77, of Fullerton died Friday, Jan. 7, 2000 at the Central Nebraska Rehabilitation Center in Fullerton.

Funeral services are pending with Palmer Funeral Home in Fullerton.

Nellie Perry

AURORA -- Nellie Perry, 85, of Aurora died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2000 at her home in Aurora.

Funeral services are pending at Higby Mortuary in Aurora.

Lucile Tolen

ORD -- Lucile G. Tolen, 95, of Ord died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000 at the Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Ord United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Miller officiating. Burial will be in the Ord City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Ord Memorial Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Ord Township Library, the Ord United Methodist Church or the Valley County Hospital Foundation.

Mrs. Tolen was born icon Nov. 19, 1904 in Broken Bow to Lewellyn and Abbie (Larrick) George. She was raised in Broken Bow and graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1922. She attended the Grand Island Baptist College for two years, and began a teaching career in Ord in 1924.

On April 30, 1926 she married Mark D. Tolen.

Mrs. Tolen taught at District 40 School and District 9 School in Valley County and in the Ord Public Schools. She ended her career as a librarian at Ord High School and retired in 1972 after teaching for 35 years.

She was a member of the Ord United Methodist Church and attended the Friendship Sunday School Class of the church. She also was a member of P.E.O. Chapter BB, the Delta Kappa Gamma Teachers Sorority, the Order of the Eastern Star, and the Ord Township Library board.

Survivors include two sons, Tom Tolen of Ord and Richard Tolen of Albuquerque, N.M.; five grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; 19 stepgreat-grandchildren; and one sister, Virginia Mason of Ord.

Mrs. Tolen was preceded in death by her husband; an infant son; and a sister, Lorene Langevin.

Alice Zimbelman

PALMER -- Alice Zimbelman, 74, of Palmer died Friday, Jan. 7, 2000 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. John's Lutheran Church with Pastor Robert Schilling officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Palmer.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Palmer Funeral Home.

Mrs. Zimbelman was born icon Feb. 7, 1925 in Grand Island to Herman and Elsie (Killinger) Kurg. She grew up in Grand Island and Merrick County and attended country schools.

She married John Zimbelman on Feb. 7, 1948 in Palmer. The couple farmed west of Palmer. Mrs. Zimbelman also worked at the Ramada Inn in Grand Island for several years, and was active in community service.

She enjoyed fishing, reading, listening to polka music, dancing and the outdoors.

Mrs. Zimbelman was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church and the American Legion Auxiliary of Palmer.

Survivors include her husband; one son, Jim of Grand Island; one daughter, Linda Malesker of Grand Island; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Melvin Foster

LINCOLN -- Melvin Merle Foster, 48, of Lincoln died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000 at Lincoln General Hospital in Lincoln.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Ericson with the Rev. Cynthia Alstadt officiating. Burial will be in Pebel Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Eberle-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell.

Memorials are suggested to Mr. Foster's son's college fund.

Dorothy Leeser

Dorothy G. Leeser, 81, of Grand Island died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Highland Cemetery in Minneapolis, Kan.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Friday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.

Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.

Mrs. Leeser was born icon on Jan. 29, 1918, at Minneapolis, Kan., to Vern and Madge (Wilson) Bisbey. She grew up and attended school in Minneapolis. She moved in 1942 to California, where she worked as a manicurist. She later lived and worked in Las Vegas. She retired in 1978.

She moved to Texas and then to Grand Island in 1982. She lived in the Chrysalis Apartments for 15 years.

Mrs. Leeser enjoyed crocheting, needlepoint and playing cards.

She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Shirley (Mrs. Tom) Lueth of Grand Island; and two sisters, June Poss of Grand Island and Betty Ayers of Salina, Kan.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Don Bisbey.
