ANNETTE PARISEAU

Annette Claire Pariseau, 81, of Canaan, died on Sunday, January 23, 2005 at the Coös County Nursing Hospital in West Stewartstown.

She was born on November 15, 1923 in St. Victor, Quebec, the daughter of Cyril and Rose (Bolduc) Mathieu.

Mrs. Pariseau attended school in Canada. She moved to the United Sates in 1944 and was married to James Pariseau in February, 1945. She was employed by Ethan Allen Furniture manufacturing in Beecher Falls from 1944 to 1955, when she decided to become a full-time homemaker. Mrs. Pariseau was a longtime member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Canaan. Mrs. Pariseau is survived by a daughter, Mrs. John (Susan) Lamb of Jaffrey, N.H. and a brother, Herve Mathieu of Beecher Falls, Vt.

Calling hours were held Tuesday afternoon and evening at the Newman Funeral Home in Colebrook. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Albert's Church in West Stewartstown by the Reverend Craig Cheney at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 26. Burial will be in the spring at St. Albert Cemetery in West Stewartstown.

Donations in memory of Mrs. Annette C. Pariseau may be sent to the Ambulance Corps, c/o Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital, 141 Corliss Lane, Colebrook, NH 03576.

TERRY RICHARDS

Terry Richards, 48, of Berlin, died at his home in the early morning hours of January 16, 2005.

He was born on April 17, 1956 in Goffstown, the son of Roland and Arlene Richards. After spending some time living in Laconia Mr. Richards moved to Berlin, where he has resided for the last 15 years. Mr. Richards enjoyed traveling, and visited such places as Florida and the Bahamas. He will be remembered for his love for the outdoors and camping. He was also an active member of the Community Services Center.

Mr. Richards is survived by his family, Fred and Donna Cummings; two nieces, Cassan-dana Cummings and Mariah Cummings; a nephew, Daniel Cummings. He also leaves behind an uncle, Steve Harmon; three aunts, Janice Walters, Rose Harmon and Lucy Knowles; and his parents, Roland "Dick" Richards of South Canaan and Arlene Riendeau of Stewartstown; four brothers, Craig Richards of Colebrook, Dennis Richards of Manchester, Earl Richards of Gorham, Maine, and Josh Richards of Clarksville; and three sisters, Colleen Richards of Manchester, Sherry Nelson of Arizona, and Paula Reynolds of Stratford.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 28 at 3 p.m. at the Fleury-Patry Funeral Home, 72 High Street, Berlin.

PAUL VIENS SR.

Paul Viens Sr., 79, of Berlin, died at home on January 19, 2005.

Born on November 3, 1925 in Berlin, he was the son of Odina Viens and Jeanette (Cloutier) Viens.

He was a heavy equipment operator for Beck and Belucci of Vermont. He enjoyed his family and friends, and the time he spent at camp on Lake Umbagog. He also enjoyed his dogs.

The family includes his wife, Pauline (Villeneuve) Viens; a son, Paul Viens of Berlin; a daughter, Diane Pelchat of Berlin; a sister, Jeannine Gosseline of Berlin; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Saturday at St. Anne Church of Good Shepherd Parish. Burial will be at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Androscoggin Valley Hospital Home Health and Hospice Services, 59 Page Hill Road, Berlin. Fleury-Patry Funeral Home of Berlin is handling arrangements.

LOIS CORLISS

Lois E. Corliss, 77, of Laconia, died on Wednesday, January 26, 2005 at Genesis Eldercare Net-work Laconia Center.

Mrs. Corliss was born on December 15, 1927 in Bristol, N.H., the daughter of Lucius and Edith (Andrews) Gordon. She was married to Charles Corliss on June 5, 1949.

Mrs. Corliss was a member of the Laconia Alliance Church. She dedicated her life to being a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Survivors include a son, Philip Corliss and his wife Jan of Colebrook; a daughter, Joy Griffith of Laconia; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren;; a sister, Doris Seymour of Sanbornton; and a brother, Kenneth Gordon of Pembroke Pines, Fla. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Corliss, on October 9, 2003; by a brother, Francis Gordon; and by three sisters, Vera Blais, Mary Tardiff and Edna Dussault.

A calling hour was held on Saturday morning at the Laconia Alliance Church in Laconia. A funeral service followed also at the church with Pastor Roy Ludwig officiating. Spring burial will be in the family lot at Pine Grove Cemetery in Gilford.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, N.H. Chapter, 10 Ferry Street, Suite 427B, Concord, NH 03301; or to the Laconia Alliance Church, 115 Court Street, Laconia, NH 03246. Wilkinson-Beane Funer-al Home and Cremation Services of Laconia handled arrangements.

FREDERICK KNIGHTS

Frederick Willie Knights, 82, of Barnet, Vt., died on Saturday, January 22, 2005 at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, following an eight-year battle with Parkinson's Disease.

Fred was born in Colebrook on October 6, 1922, the son of George B. and Florence R. (Bacon) Knights. He was a graduate of McIndoes Falls Academy, Class of 1941, and a veteran of World War II, serving with the Army.

For 37 years he was a mail carrier and custodian for the St. Johnsbury Post Office. He drove for Greenwood Bus line and for the Barnet School District, and was a gentleman farmer.

Fred was a standout basketball player in high school and was noted for his singing and yodeling. He was a champion horseshoe player and an avid hunter, and loved to dance. He was a member of the East Barnet Congregational Church and the Passumpsic Baptist Church. The thing Fred loved most was being on his land with his equipment.

Surviving relatives include his wife of 62 years, Madalyn (Capron) Knights of Barnet; two daughters, Nancy Tilden of St. Johnsbury, and Elaine Berry and her husband Richard of Barnet, Vt.; four sons, Roderic R. Knights and his wife Elizabeth of Waterford, Vt., Gregory P. Knights and his wife Francine of Barnet, Vt., Jonathan P. Knights and his wife Paula of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Jeffrey S. Knights of Barnet, Vt.; 18 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. A son, Douglas Dwayne Knights, predeceased his dad, Mr. Knights. A brother, Weldon Knights, and a sister, Teresa Downs was also preceded in death by him.

There will be no calling hours. A private family service will be held at the convenience of the family in the spring. It is suggested by the family that memorial donations be made to the Barnet Rescue Squad, PO Box 119, Barnet, VT 05821; Pas-sumpsic Baptist Church, in care of Marilyn Urie, Simpson Brook Road, Waterford, VT 05848; or East Barnet Congregational Church, in care of Marvin Bailey, East Barnet, VT 05821. Ricker Funeral Home in Woodsville is in charge of arrangements.

BENJAMIN LEROUX

Mr. Benjamin F. Leroux, 73, of Colebrook, died on Thursday evening, January 27, 2005 at the Franklin Regional Hospital in Franklin, N.H.

Mr. Leroux was born on May 28, 1931 in West Stewartstown, son of the late Alfred and Mina (Collins) Leroux.

Mr. Leroux attended school in Stewartstown and Canaan, and in 1951 he enlisted in the Army, serving in the Korean War until his honorable discharge in 1953. In 1956 he reenlisted in the Army and was honorably discharged in 1964. In 1967 he was graduated from a nursing trade school and worked as an LPN in Waterbury, Conn., until 1985, when he took a maintenance position at the Post Office Substation in Waterbury, retiring in 1993.

Mr. Leroux then returned to the North Country and lived at the Mountain Village in Groveton, and later moved to Colby Commons in Colebrook in 1994. It wasn't until recently that he moved to the New Hampshire Veterans' Home in Tilton. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans.

Mr. Leroux is survived by two sisters, Barbara Welch of South Portland, Maine, and Esther Staples of Moultonboro, N.H.; and by a brother, Winston Leroux of Orlando, Fla.

There will be no calling hours. Military honors and interment will be held in Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C., at a later date. Expressions of sympathy in Mr. Leroux's memory may be made to a charity of one's choice. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Jenkins Funeral Home of Colebrook. FRANK OWEN

Frank H. Owen, 80, of Cole-brook, died on Sunday morning, January 30, 2005, surrounded by his family at the Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital.

Mr. Owen was born on June 13, 1924 in Colebrook, son of the late Gerald E. and Leone (Hill) Owen. He was graduated from Colebrook Academy, Class of 1942.

In 1943 he enlisted in the Navy during World War II and served his country for two and a half years. Following his honorable discharge in 1946, he returned to Colebrook and worked for the E.F. Royal Store for a year. In 1947, he worked reading meters for Public Service of New Hampshire for eight years and in 1955, he began selling insurance for Mutual of Omaha, retiring after 35 years of employment in 1990.

He was also very active in other trades. He mowed roadsides for the State of New Hampshire from 1976 to 1991; spent many hours working on his wood lot on Hardscrabble; and farmed and produced maple syrup with his family. For 10 years, he served as Colebrook's Civil Defense Director. He was also a member of the Colebrook school board from 1969 to 1975, and served as a selectman from 1976 to 1989.

Mr. Owen was a very active member of the Monadnock Con-gregational Church; Past Com-mander and 59-year member of the George L. O'Neil American Legion Post 62 of Colebrook; a Past Master and 59-year member of the Evening Star Lodge #37, F&AM; a member of the North Star Chapter #16 R.A.M; a member of Evening Star Council #53; a charter member of the William Pitt Tavern Lodge of Portsmouth; Past Patron of the Eureka Chapter #2 O.E.S. of Colebrook; a charter member of the Colebrook Kiwanis Club and well known for his secret barbeque sauce recipe; Past President of the New Hampshire Maple Producers Association; and a member of the New Hampshire Timberlands Owners Association.

Mr. Owen is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Claire (Greenleaf) Owen of Colebrook; a daughter, Lynne O. Placey and her husband Donald of Stewartstown; two sons, Gerald F. Owen and his wife Paulette of Colebrook, and Jeffrey G. Owen and his wife Carol of Loudon; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Owen is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Edmund and Haven Owen.

Calling hours were held on Tuesday afternoon and evening at the Jenkins Funeral Home in Colebrook, with a private Maso-nic Service being held at the funeral home by Evening Star Lodge #37 F&AM. A funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday, February 2, at 2 p.m. at the Monadnock Congregational Church with The Reverend Rebecca Larson officiating. An interment service will be held in the spring at the Colebrook Village Cemetery with military honors provided by the George L. O'Neil Post 62 American Legion of Colebrook.

NORMA POLLARD

Norma Pollard, 58, of Essex Junction, died on Thursday, January 20, 2005, as a result of an auto accident.

She was born in Orleans, Vt., on April 29, 1946, the daughter of Ernest and Elaine (Allen) Hemenway. On July 23, 1966 she was married in McIndoe Falls, Vt., to Neil K. Pollard.

A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she is survived by her husband Neil of Essex Junction; her four children and their spouses, Kurt and Jackie Pollard, Casey Pollard, Stefanie Pollard, and Karin and Chris Gamelin; four brothers and their spouses, Pete and Sue Hemenway, Jon and Lois Hemenway of Norton, Gary and Elaine Hemenway and Geoffrey and Debra Hemenway; nine grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. Her granddaughter Ila Pollard, who also lost her life in the accident, now joins her grandmother in heaven.

A memorial service was held on Monday evening, January 24 at the Ready Funeral and Cremation Service in White River Jct, preceded by calling hours. Those who wish may make contributions in her memory to the Relay For Life, in care of The American Cancer Society, 121 Connor Way, PO Box 1460, Williston, VT 05495; or to the Alzheimer's Association of Vermont and New Hampshire, PO Box 1139, 338 River St., Montpelier, VT 05601.

FERNAND ROY

Fernand Gerard Roy, 77, died peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Tuesday morning, January 25, 2005 at his home in Canaan.

He was born on November 5, 1927 in Paquetteville, Quebec, the son of Amedee and Emerilda (Pivian) Roy. He attended school in Canada, and had lived in Canaan for 43 years. He was married to Suzanne Paquette on July 7, 1956.

He was employed at the Division of Ethan Allen in Beecher Falls for 24 years before he retired in 1990. He also worked at the North Stratford paper mill, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Fernand enjoyed playing cards, playing pool, camping and traveling.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Suzanne Roy of Canaan; his seven children, Pauline and her husband Fabrice Olivier of Coaticook, Quebec, Claude Roy and his wife Sylvie, Roland Roy and his wife Gloria, Raymond Roy and his wife Louise, Andre Roy and his wife Debbie, Nicole and her husband Bernard Charest, and Angele and her husband Mike Patenaude, all of Canaan; two brothers, Gerard Roy of Coati-cook and Roger Roy of East Hereford, Quebec; a sister, Georgette St. Pierre of Paquetteville, Quebec; and fourteen grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild.

Calling hours were held on Thursday afternoon and evening at the Newman Funeral Home in Colebrook. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at The Assumption Church in Canaan, by the Reverend Craig Cheney and the Reverend Albert Bellefeuille on Friday morning. Burial will be in the spring at St. Albert cemetery in West Stewartstown, NH.

IRENE STRAW

Irene P. Straw, 89, of Pittsburg, died on Friday, January 28, 2005 at the Coös County Nursing Hospital in West Stewartstown.

She was born on October 31, 1915 in Hereford, Quebec, the daughter of Frank and Martha (Ellingwood) Hann. Mrs. Straw attended school in Canada, and was married to the late Merton Vaughn Straw on December 28, 1932 in Canaan, under the Christmas tree. She and her husband moved to the U.S. in 1956.

Mrs. Straw worked briefly at Ethan Allen Manufacturing in Beecher Falls, but was a homemaker for the majority of her life. She was an active member of All Saints Church in Hereford, Quebec, and the Ladies Guild. She was also an active member of Farnham Memorial Church in Pittsburg. Mrs. Straw enjoyed dancing and flower gardening, but her lifetime passion was time spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Family life was her life.

Mrs. Irene P. Straw is survived by a son Bernard and his wife Marjorie Straw of Pittsburg; three daughters, Mrs. Willie (Janice) Judd of Pittsburg, Mrs. Floyd (Barbara) Howe of Pittsburg, and Mrs. Robert (Carlene) Prehemo of Pittsburg; 14 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Merton Vaughn Straw; by a son, Roland (Laverne) Straw; by an infant daughter, Rita Straw; and by four brothers and a sister.

Calling hours were held on Sunday afternoon and evening at the Newman Funeral Home in Colebrook. Funeral services were held on Monday morning at the All Saints Church in Hereford. Burial will be in the spring at All Saints Cemetery in Hereford. Donations in memory of Irene Straw may be sent to All Saints Church, care of Rose Howe, 1255 Route 141, St. Herménégilde, PQ, Canada, JOB2W0, or to the charity of one's choice.

JANICE EARLE

Janice L. Earle, 62, of Franklin, died at the Franklin Regional Hospital on Wednes-day, February 23, 2005.

Mrs. Earle was born on September 24, 1942 in Houlton, Maine, the daughter of Elwood T. and Jessie (Sowers) Miller. She was a longtime resident of Maidstone until moving to Franklin six weeks ago to live with her daughter.

Mrs. Earle and her husband owned and operated several small grocery stores over the years, including the Winnisquam Market in Winnisquam, N.H., and the Trading Post in Pittsburg. She loved her cat, Smokey-Raph, and spent a lot of time doing jigsaw puzzles. Her favorite pastime was spending time with her family, especially her new great-granddaughter, Lily Marie Tusi. She was very proud of her grandchildren.

Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Linda L. and Herman Hafford of Northfield, Laurie M., and Mark Stockbridge of Franklin, and Joy E. and Mark Hebert of Pittsburg; nine grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; three step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandson; and a brother, Terry L. Miller of Loudon. She was predeceased by her husband of over thirty years, Charles G. Earle Jr., on January 28, 2004.

There will be no calling hours. A memorial service was held on Monday at the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home in Laconia. Donations in memory of Janice may be made to the Cancer Wing at Weeks Medical Center, 173 Middle Street, Lancaster, NH 03584 in honor of her late husband, Charles.

FRANCIS HOPPS JR.

Francis W. "Grampy" "Hoppy" Hopps Jr., 71, of Stark, died peacefully on February 26, 2005, at home with his family by his side after a long illness.

He was born in Groveton on October 22, 1933, a son of Francis W. Hopps Sr. and Blanche (Woods) Hopps and the eighth of sixteen children.

He attended area schools, and growing up as a teenager, Francis worked at the Boston & Maine Railroad Company. In the late 1950s he worked for Perini Construction in Vermont. Later he moved to Concord, N.H., and worked for a printing company.

In 1966 he moved to Stark, where he started working for Groveton Paper Company as a tinsmith, and worked there until his retirement in 1996. He also worked part time as a police officer in the towns of Stark, Groveton and North Stratford, as well as at Riverside Speedway and other local venues. He was the Stark Police Chief from 1982 to 1998. During his duties, Francis mostly enjoyed interacting with the local kids.

Francis was a member of the Blazing Star Lodge #23 F&AM of Townsend, Vt., the Stark Improvement Fund, the Pew Owners Association, the Police Association, the National Rifle Association and the North American Hunting Club.

Francis was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, trapping and canoeing, but mostly it could all be summed up with a question: Where is Grampy? Family and friends would always agree on the answer: "He's gone fishing."

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Jane (Hurley); a son, Paul and his wife Leny of Syracuse, N.Y.; two daughters, Deborah Brooks and her husband Kevin of Dallas, Ga., and Jennifer Marshall and her fiancé Christopher Martin of Groveton; from a previous marriage, a daughter, Janie Hickey of Kentucky; a son-in-law, Gary Marshall of Groveton; seven sisters, Norma Gadwah, Hazel Bedell, Helen Hopps, Jean Dingman, Florence Dupuis, Linda Roy and Janet Rocha; two brothers, Roland and Harry Hopps; 10 grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents; by two brothers, Bernard and Elwin Hopps; by a sister, Gloria Alexander, and by a granddaughter, Samantha Jane Ann.

Memorial donations may be made to the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Dialysis Unit in care of Linda Achilles, 173 Middle Street, Lancaster, NH 03584, or to the Stark Pew Owners Association in care of Wayne Montgomery, 45 Montgomery Road, Stark, NH 03582.

At Francis' request there will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 2 at the St. Francis Xavier Church, 11 State Street, Groveton, with Fr. Daniel Deveau officiating. Spring burial will take place at the Emerson Road Cemetery in Stark. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Armstrong-Charron Funeral Home in Groveton.

RANDALL KRAYCAR

Randall Dean "Randy" Kraycar, 45, of Colebrook, died at the Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital after a sudden illness on August 31, 2004.

He was born on June 5, 1959 in Freeport, N.Y., the son of John J. and Charlotte (Emory) Kraycar. Mr. Kraycar attended schools in Patchogue-Medford, N.Y., and Dickson City, Pa. He was a self-employed carpenter, working mostly in the Long Island, N.Y., area.

He was married to Barbara-Ellen Hughes on May 25, 2000, and the couple started visiting the North Country in 2002. Mr. Kraycar helped manage the Columbia Cabins for several months for each of the past two winters. Mr. Kraycar enjoyed spending time with his children, ATV riding and snowmobiling.

Mr. Kraycar is survived by his loving wife, Barbara-Ellen Kraycar of East Moriches, N.Y.; three daughters, Laura-Ann Hughes, Aimee-Noelle Hughes and Rebecca-Ann Kraycar of East Moriches, N.Y.; two sons, Jesse Hughes and Joseph Hughes of East Moriches, N.Y., a sister, Candy Kraycar of Pennsylvania; six brothers, Ronald Kraycar of East Moriches, Jeffery, Keith and Gary Kraycar, all of Pennsylvania, Jimmy Kraycar of Hampton Bays, N.Y., and Kenny Kraycar of Allenstown, Pa. He was predeceased by a brother, Greg Emory.

Calling hours were held on September 4 at the Wesche Funeral Home, Inc., in Center Moriches. Funeral services will be announced at a later date. Newman Funeral Home is entrusted with local arrangements.
