George K. Flantinis
Died: Tuesday, June 28, 2005
Age: 60

WOLFEBORO - George K. Flantinis, 60, of Spruce Rd., died June 28 at Huggins Hospital in Wolfeboro.

Born May 9, 1945 in Athens, Greece, the son of the late Kyriakos and Vasilia (Simeonidou) Flantinis, he lived there most of his life, moving to Wolfeboro in 1996.

Flantinis is a graduate of the Royal Hellenic Naval Academy and the US Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey, Calif. He is a retired Admiral of the Royal Hellenic Navy and most recently he was a department head at New Hampshire Technical Institute in Concord.

On Oct. 20, 2000, he became a United States Citizen. He was a member of the Morning Star Masonic Lodge in Wolfeboro, a past member of the Wolfeboro Rotary Club and a member of the Lakes Region Newcomers Club.

He leaves his wife Katerina (Yannouli) Flantinis of Wolfeboro and a son, Kyriakos G. Flantinis, also of Wolfeboro.

Services were private. A Celebration of his Life Service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wolfeboro Area Children's Center, South Main St., Wolfeboro, NH 03894.

George K. Flantinis
Died: Tuesday, June 28, 2005
Age: 60

WOLFEBORO - George K. Flantinis, 60, of Spruce Rd. in Wolfeboro, died June 28 at Huggins Hospital.

A memorial service will take place at 2 p.m., Saturday, July 30, at All Saints Church on South Main St.

The Baker-Gagne Funeral Home and Cremation Service of 85 Mill St. is in charge of the arrangements.

Richard W. Ballou
Died: Monday, June 27, 2005
Age: 82

CONCORD - Richard W. Ballou, 82, passed away June 27 at Havenwood Retirement Community in Concord. He was a longtime employee of Tufts University. He was a member of the Morningstar Lodge #17 AF & AM, 32nd Degree.

He had served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. After retiring in 1985, he and his wife moved to Wolfeboro. While in Wolfeboro, he was active in town affairs, the Rotary Club and the First Congregational Church.

He leaves his wife of 56 years, Martha (Ashman) of Concord. He also leaves his daughter, Judith Hurlbert and her husband Jeffrey, their children, Rebecca, Jessica and Joshua, all of Stratham; son Jonathan and his wife Lindsey Ballou, and their son Jared, all of Somersworth; their daughter Taylor Ansler of Dover; son Roger A. Ballou and his wife Joni, and their son Graham A. all of St. Paul, Minn.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, July 13 at 2 p.m. at the Havenwood Retirement Community Auditorium in Concord. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), 2 Wellman Ave., Nashua, NH 03064.

The Cremation Society of New Hampshire is in charge of the arrangements.

Stuart Davis Wiggin
Died: Saturday, June 25, 2005
Age: 78

THOMASVILLE, N.C. - Stuart Davis Wiggin, 78, a resident of 6705 Oak Knoll Court, Thomasville, N.C., died Saturday, June 25 at Carteret General Hospital in Morehead City.

Born February 19, 1927 in Sanbornville, he was the son of Albert W. and Agnes Wiggin and had been a resident of Thomasville since 1961. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving on the U.S.S. Blackfin submarine in the Pacific theater.

He was a graduate of the University of New Hampshire and received a master's degree in Wood Technology at N.C. State University. He was a long-term employee of Thomasville Furniture Industries where he retired in 1988 as director of engineering.

After his retirement, he remained active in the industry as a consultant and worked with International Executive Service Corp in the Czech Republic, Peru and Russia. He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church where he was a past senior warden.

He was a member of the Thomasville Masonic Lodge and 32nd degree Mason. He was a member and past president of Colonial Country Club. He leaves his wife, Mary Woodward, whom he married on June 13, 1953.

He also leaves two sons, Stuart Douglas Wiggin and wife, Kathy of Austin, Texas; and Michael Burke Wiggin and wife, Royale, of High Point, N.C.; two daughters, Karen Plunkett and husband Joe of Raleigh, N.C.; and Anne Parker and husband Jack, of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.; eight grandsons; and one brother, Gordon Wiggin of Sanbornville.

Memorial services were held June 28 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church with interment in the St, Paul's Columbarium.

Sylvia (Welch) Russell
Died: Friday, June 24, 2005
Age: 86

CENTER OSSIPEE - Sylvia (Welch) Russell, 86, of Center Ossipee, passed away June 24 at the Mountain View Nursing Home in Ossipee with her loving family by her side.

Sylvia was born April 12, 1919, the daughter of the late Benjamin an Idella (Eldridge) Welch. She was a native and life long resident of Ossipee and was the widow of the late Clyde Russell.

Sylvia had worked at the Frankson's Furniture Company in West Ossipee for several years and later worked in the housekeeping department at Huggins Hospital in Wolfeboro for 20 years. Sylvia later worked at the Ossipee Concerned Citizens in Center Ossipee for 13 years.

She is survived by her daughter, Priscilla Nason of Center Ossipee, 10 grandchildren and several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren and a brother, Kenneth Welch of Ocala, Florida.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Moultonville United Methodist Church in Center Ossipee. Burial was in the Chickville Cemetery in Center Ossipee.

Colonel Ralph Everett Brown
Died: Thursday, June 23, 2005
Age: 77

MELBOURNE, Fla. - Colonel Ralph Everett Brown, 77, of Melbourne, Fla. died June 23, under the care of Hospice, his wife Nancy and his two daughters Gale and Sandra, at his home in Indian River Colony Club.

Brown attended public schools in Malden, Mass. He joined the U.S. Army in 1946, reaching the rank of Staff Sergeant, U.S. Infantry. Upon graduation from the University of New Hampshire in 1952, he entered the USAF and served for 25 years. His service included tours of duty in Japan, Turkey, Norway, Vietnam and Germany.

In addition to numerous service, Theater and Foreign Government awards, Brown was the recipient of the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star and Meritorious Service Award (two) and Commendation Award (five). He was a specialist in personnel management and served with security organizations in Human Intelligence (HUMINT). Upon retirement, Brown earned a masters degree in education and taught high school social studies in Wolfeboro.

Brown had lived in Florida since 1985 and at the Indian River Colony Club since 1990. His hobbies included golf, fishing, bridge and traveling.

Brown is survived by his wife of 56 years, Nancy Litch Brown of Lynn, Mass. and two daughters, Gale Cossette of Rochester and Sandra Bittenbender Brown of Lawrence, Kan. He has two grandchildren, Christopher and Sarah Stone. Brown also leaves his brother, Lawrence Brown of Sanford, Fla. and his sister, Leola Foden of Chelmsford, Mass. He was predeceased by another sister, Ann Abbott of Vero Beach, Fla. A graveside memorial service will be held in New Hampshire.

Barbara "Jean" Malmgren
Died: Monday, June 20, 2005
Age: 80

TUFTONBORO - Barbara "Jean" Malmgren, 80 of Willow Ave., Center Tuftonboro, died June 20, at the Mountain View Nursing Home in Ossipee.

Born Nov. 28, 1924 in Boston, Mass., daughter of the late Albert H and Eleanor (Bowman) Chamberlin, she had lived in Tuftonboro since 1973. Before that, she lived in Needham, Mass. for many years.

Malmgren and her husband owned and operated Barbara Jean Candies and Ice Cream in West Newton, Mass. for 35 years. She was active with the Rainbow Girls when she was growing up, and a member of the Majority Club, Lakes Region Heritage Round Table, the Wolfeboro Historical Society and a chairman of a table at the Huggins Hospital Street Fair.

She leaves her husband of 59 years, Ralph T. Malmgren of Tuftonboro, a brother and sister-in-law, Calvin D. and Ruth Chamberlin of Wayland, Mass., a brother-in-law Paul A. Malmgren of Palm Harbor, Fla., several cousins and one niece.

A memorial service will be held Saturday July 2, 1 p.m., at the Tuftonboro United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Townhouse Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Alzheimer's Association, 10 Ferry St. Suite 419, Concord, NH 03301

Frederic Baker Leach Jr.
Died: Wednesday, June 15, 2005
Age: 70

SANBORNVILLE - Frederic B. Leach Jr., 70, died on June 15. He was born and brought up in New York City, and attended West Virginia University. Before he retired, he was director of engineering at Thermodynamic sensors of Westchester, Pa.

Leach was active in the Homer School System as a co-president of the Elementary School PTA and later as a member and president of the Homer School Board. He was a member of the Cortland Jaycees and a Scout Master. He had a long-lasting affiliation with Grace and Calvary Episcopal Churches in Sanbornville.

He leaves his wife of 28 years, Anne, and their three children, Dr. Gregory Leach and daughter-in-law Dr. Mary O'Hare of Kennebunk, Maine; Michael Leach of Homer, N.Y.; and Debra Leach (Nedder) and son-in-law George Nedder of Westwood, Mass. Leach leaves his five grandchildren, Victoria, William, Michaela, Thomas, and Erich. He also leaves a brother, Richard Leach; a sister-in-law, Candy; a niece, Kayla; and a cousin, Robert Hackett of Lexington, Ky. He was predeceased by his parents, Frederic and Helen Leach; and sisters Nancy and Dorothy.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church Memorial Fund, 118 High Street, PO Box 249, Sanbornville, NH 03872 or to Hospice Southern Carroll County & Vicinity, Inc. PO Box 1620 Wolfeboro, NH 03894.

There are no calling hours. Family and friends attended a funeral service Friday, June 17 at the Episcopal Church of St. John the Baptist, Sanbornville, with the Rev. Peter Faass, Rector, officiating. A graveside service was held Monday at the Glenwood Cemetery in Homer, N.Y. Arrangements are in the care of Peaslee Funeral Home, 2079 Wakefield Road, Sanbornville.

Leslie A. Bennett
Died: Sunday, June 12, 2005
Age: 58

OSSIPEE - Leslie A. Beckett, 58, of 99 Route 28, Ossipee died June 12, at Huggins Hospital in Wolfeboro.

Beckett was born Sept. 26, 1946 in Riverside, N.J., the son of Charles A. and Marguerite (Saybe) Beckett. He had lived in Ossipee for the past 25 years, previously living in Rancocas, N.J.

He served his country with the United States Air Force. Beckett was a self-employed painter; he was involved with the Ossipee First Congregational Church, and was an avid camper and sportsman.

He leaves his father of Mount Holly, N.J.; a brother and sister-in-law, Charles R. and Nancy Beckett of Coral Springs, Fla.; a nephew, Justin Beckett, and a niece, Tracy Beckett. His mother died in 2000.

Calling hours were held June 20, at the Page Funeral Home in Burlington, N.J. Burial will be at a later date in Odd Fellow Cemetery in Burlington.
