She was born April 6, 1921, in Swampscott, Mass., the daughter of the late Leroy Herbert and Beulah May (Gerini) Phillips. She moved to Dover at a very young age and attended local schools. Later in life, she enrolled at McIntosh College, where she majored in secretarial and business-office studies. She was very proficient as a stenographer and was an exceptional typist. She also attended the University of New Hampshire in Durham, where she majored in occupational therapy. She graduated from UNH in 1952. While there, she was active in a sorority.

Over the years, she was employed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as a machine operator. She was a loyal employee, with a strong positive work ethic. She was proud to work at the shipyard; it was her part of giving back something to the country she was proud to live in.

In her leisure time, she was active with the American Occupational Association. She loved collecting antiques and other collectibles. Over the years she had collected a number of old carousel horses, which she truly treasured. She was very proud of her Phillips family heritage and long-standing connection with the B&M Railroad in this area.

She looked forward to spending time at her beach cottage, called "The Sea Witch," and took many walks on York Beach, enjoying the magnificent Atlantic Ocean. She was quoted as saying: "As far as I'm concerned, there's only one flavor in this world, and it's chocolate." She was an avid Boston Celtics fan and was a really big fan of former Celtic great Larry Bird. She also loved the many pet animals she had over the years.

She loved listening to jazz and big-band music and had the opportunity to meet Lou Rawls in person. She especially loved listening to Frank Sinatra.

But above all things, her favorite pleasure was to adore and be with her loving son, Mark of Dover. She never called her son Mark but instead called him "Speck" or Phillips, which, according to Mark, was an honor he will cherish forever.

Besides her son, she is survived by a stepson, Edward C. Perkins of Newbury, Mass.; a stepbrother, Forrest Quimby of New York; and many cousins, friends and acquaintances from the Candia and Dover, N.H., and Kittery Point, Maine, areas.
