Debra L. Reichlin

PORTSMOUTH - Debra L. Reichlin, M.S., R.D., died peacefully Tuesday morning, July 9, 2002.

She was born in Nashua in 1959 and resided in Portsmouth.

She received her Bachelor of Science degree in nutrition from the University of New Hampshire in 1982 and her Master of Science degree in dietetics from the University of Iowa in 1984. She worked as a registered dietitian at several health-care facilities and as an executive coach for various companies, including Shell Oil.

She is survived by her husband, Kevin F. Reichlin, D.C.; her father, Robert L. Roy, and stepmother, Marion L. Roy, of Litchfield; her mother, Elaine P. Roy of Lighthouse Point, Fla.; her brothers, Robert G. Roy, D.V.M., of Lighthouse Point, Fla., and Richard A. Roy of Nashua; her nephew, Travis L. Roy, and niece, Athen E. Roy, of Lighthouse Point, Fla.; and many other friends and relatives around the world.

REICHLIN - Debra L. Reichlin, of Portsmouth, died peacefully on July 9, 2002. Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, July 12, 2002, at J. Verne Wood Funeral Home - Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth. Visitation hours will be held 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. today, and 2 to 4 p.m. on Friday, July 12, 2002, at the funeral home.

George Bloomberg

KITTERY, Maine - George Bloomberg, 84, of Kittery, died Tuesday, July 9, 2002, at the Portsmouth Hospital.

Mr. Bloomberg was born April 25, 1918, in Boston, Mass., the son of Carl and Hana (Janssen) Bloomberg. He was proud of his Swedish heritage and family. Mr. Bloomberg and his family moved to Kittery in 1986.

He was a graduate of Dedham, Mass., High School. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps where he flew 87 missions in the China, India and Burma Campaigns during WWII. He served his country proudly as a Hump Pilot. Mr. Bloomberg was honorably discharged as a 1st Lieutenant. He was the recipient of the Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Distinguished Flying Cross, along with a Presidential Citation.

After serving his military duties, he married Florence Carmichael in 1949. Over the years he worked in the retail business. He was employed by Lacy’s of East Boston, Mass. Mr. Bloomberg retired in 1983.

He was past president of the Footlight Club of Jamaica Plain, Mass., which is the oldest amateur theatrical club in continuous production. He also served as Senior Warden at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Jamaica Plain, Mass. He was past treasurer of the Odiorne Point.

In addition to his wife, Florence, he is survived by three daughters, Deborah E. Bloomberg of Haverhill, Mass., Jane B. Kawash of North Andover, Mass., and Manette Pacheco of Chester, N.H.; his son, George CG Bloomberg III, of Eliot; his cherished grandchildren, Tanya Sears of Springfield, Mass., Warren Kawash of North Andover, Mass., James Pacheco of Chester, N.H., and Andrew Bloomberg of Eliot; and many nieces and nephews.

BLOOMBERG - George Bloomberg, 84, of Kittery, Maine, died July 9, 2002. A memorial celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. on July 13, 2002, at St. Johns Church in Portsmouth. The Rev. Gordon Allen will conduct services. Burial will take place in St. Johns Church Memorial Garden. There will be no visitation hours. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, New England Division Inc., 52 Federal St., Brunswick, ME 04011. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson-Cooper Funeral Home, 21 Rogers Road, Kittery.

Richard A. Young

TOMS RIVER, N.J. - Richard A. Young, 66, formerly of Bayville, died Tuesday, July 9, 2002, at home.

He was born in Vinalhaven, Maine, and lived in Bayville before moving to Toms River 14 years ago.

He was a self-employed painter in the Ocean County area for 40 years before retiring in 1992.

He was predeceased by his wife, Nora Young.

He is survived by his daughters, Sandra Beattie of Bayville, and Linda Kibitlewski of Manahawkin; his brothers, Hiran Young Jr. of Eliot, Maine, and Arthur Young of Kittery, Maine; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

YOUNG - Richard A. Young, 66, of Toms River, N.J., died Tuesday, July 9, 2002. A gathering will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m., at Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main St., Toms River, N.J. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Deborah Heart & Lung Foundation, P.O. Box 820, Browns Mills, NJ 08015-0820.

Jasper Paola

PORTSMOUTH - Jasper Paola, 79, of 327 Hanover St., died Thursday, July 11, 2002, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital after a long period of failing health.

Born in Boston, Mass., on Aug. 18, 1922, he was a son of Dominic and Filomena (Bonadio) Paola and had been a resident of Portsmouth for more than 60 years.

He was employed for more than 30 years at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Shop 11. He was a communicant of the Church of the Immaculate Conception.

Survivors include two sisters, Rae Marcello and Rose Risden, both of Portsmouth; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two brothers, John and Edward Paola; and three sisters, Carmella Nigrelli, Theresa Ciampa and Mary McCombie.

PAOLA - Jasper Paola, 81, of 327 Hanover St., Portsmouth, died Thursday, July 11, 2002. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. on Wednesday at the Church of the Immaculate Conception. Visiting hours are from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday at the Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State St., Portsmouth. Memorials may be made to the Immaculate Conception Church, 98 Summer St., Portsmouth, NH 03801.

Karen E. Nissen

EXETER - Karen Egidia Nissen, 99, died 16 days short of her 100th birthday, on Sunday, July 7, 2002, at the Eventide Home, where she had been a resident since 1997.

Born July 23, 1902, in Horsens, Denmark, she was the daughter of Adolf and Karen Moeller, one of seven children, most of whom lived well into their nineties, one sister reaching 101. A graduate of the Technical Institute, Copenhagen, Denmark, she had a 10-year career in the Danish Postal Service before joining her fiancé in the United States to be married. She worked for the Hahne & Co. department store in Newark, N.J., for many years, retiring in 1968. She and her husband of 44 years, Carl E. Nissen, lived in Metuchen, N.J. He predeceased her in 1973.

She is remembered for her gracious dignity, sense of humor, love of travel and her devotion to her family. She was a member of the United Church of Christ of North Hampton and a member of the North Hampton Ladies Union. For 20 years, until the age of 93, she delivered Meals-on-Wheels in Metuchen, N.J.

She is survived by daughter and son-in-law Karin and Hal Moulton of North Hampton and their son, Russell Moulton, of San Jose, Calif.; daughter Laura Marshall of Stow, Mass.; son and daughter-in-law Eric and Boutsaba Nissen, until recently longtime residents of Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, with their three daughters, Catherine, Paula and Nuala; and many nieces and nephews, both in this country and in Denmark.

NISSEN - Karen Egidia Nissen, 99, of Exeter, died July 7, 2002. A memorial service will be held to celebrate her life at 3 p.m. on Friday, July 19, 2002, at the United Church of Christ, 295 Atlantic Ave., North Hampton (junction of routes 11 and 151). In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Eventide Home, 81 High St., Exeter, NH 03833, or to a charity of choice. Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter, is handling the arrangements.

Angelo "Val" Valzania

GREENLAND - Angelo "Val" Valzania, 81, of 359 Post Road, died Monday, July 8, 2002, at York Hospital after a period of failing health.

Born in Portsmouth on July 3, 1921, he was the son of John and Theresa (DelaPasqua) Valzania and was a lifelong resident of the area.

He was a veteran of World War II and Korea, serving in the U.S. Navy.

He was employed for many years at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, retiring from design liaison in 1973. After retiring, he worked in real estate and taught building trades at Portsmouth High School for several years.

He was also active in Scouting and was a former Scoutmaster.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Eleanor (Balboni) Valzania; two sons, Wayne Valzania of Manlius, N.Y., and Douglas Valzania of Seabrook; one daughter, Elaina Valzania of Greenland; five grandchildren, Melissa, Matthew, Sarah, Misty and Angela; and one great-granddaughter, Amber Lynn.

VALZANIA - Angelo "Val" Valzania, 81, of Post Road, Greenland, died July 8, 2002. Arrangements for funeral services are incomplete and will be announced by the Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State St., Portsmouth. Memorials may be made to the York Hospital Cardiology Unit, 15 Hospital Drive, York, ME 03909.

Bertha E. (Lowell) Perkins

PORTSMOUTH - Funeral services for Bertha E. (Lowell) Perkins, 90, of the Edgewood Centre and formerly of Rye, were held on Thursday at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home - Buckminster Chapel, in Portsmouth. The Rev. Donald Gum, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Portsmouth, officiated. The eulogy was given by Mrs. Perkins’ grandson, Michael L. Berry. Burial was in the Central Cemetery, in Rye, with committal services by the Rev. Gum. Bearers were Mrs. Perkins’ son, Lowell W. Berry, and grandson, Michael L. Berry.

WILLING - A memorial service celebrating the life of Roberta Rae Willing will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2002, at the First Parish Church, 180 York St., York, Maine. Family and friends are welcome.

GAGNON - Joseph Vincent Gagnon, 22, a Nashua native and a student at the University of Utah, died Sunday, July 7, 2002, in Soda Springs, Idaho. Calling hours will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Farwell Funeral Home, 18 Lock St., Nashua. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday in the Church of The Resurrection, 449 Broad St., Nashua. Burial will take place in St. Louis Cemetery. Friends are invited to attend and will gather at the church. Those wishing to express their sympathy may make donations in his memory to: Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Greater Nashua, Suite 501, 33 Main St., Nashua, NH 03060. The Farwell Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Angela Noel

PORTSMOUTH, N.H. - Angela (Merlino) Noel, 63, of Middle Street, died Sunday, June 30, 2002, after a long battle with lymphoma.

Ms. Noel was born Feb. 8, 1939, in Newton, Mass.

She began her career in the field of art at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston. She then worked for the Shore Gallery and the Childs Gallery on Newberry Street in Boston, as an art advisor. Mrs. Noel played a key role in the establishment and management of the Childs Gallery in New York City. She moved to Portsmouth in 1994.

Ms. Noel’s home was an important gathering place for sharing quality time with friends. Whether she was reading a favorite book to a child or entertaining friends at an ice cream social, Ms. Noel always cultivated creativity. She was a devoted knitter and cherished the time and talents of her knitting circle of friends. Although Ms. Noel was known as a "collector" of many things, it was her collection of friends that she valued the most.

She is survived by two sisters, Maria Montanaro of Portsmouth, N.H., and Jean O’Halloran of Waltham, Mass.; and her loving companion, Robert Holland of Dover, N.H. She will be dearly missed by many nieces, nephews and cherished friends of all ages.

She was predeceased by her brother, Michael Merlino of Miami, Fla., and her mother, Nicoletta Cellucci and stepfather, Joseph of Newton, Mass.

NOEL - Angela (Merlino) Noel, 63, of Middle Street, Portsmouth, died June 30, 2002. A memorial service will be held at South Church Unitarian-Universalist, State Street, Portsmouth, at 1 p.m. on Sunday, July 21, 2002. In lieu of flowers, a donation in her memory may be made to South Church, the Portsmouth Children’s Museum, or the Friends of the Boston Public Garden. Arrangements are under the direction of the Robert K. Gray Jr. Funeral Home, 24 Winnacunnett Road, Hampton, NH 03842.

Beatrice G. Fredericks

BEDFORD, N.H. - Beatrice G. Fredericks, 98, a former 30-year resident of Hillside Road, North Hampton, died Thursday, July 11, 2002 at the Ridgewood Center where she made her home the past 1½ years.

She was born in Nova Scotia, Canada, June 17, 1904 one of eight children of the late William and Mary (Gray) Andrews.

Mrs. Fredericks and her late husband C. Herbert Fredericks who died in 1958, founded, owned and operated the former Fredericks Motor Court on Route 1 in Seabrook. She operated the business from the mid-1940s and continued it’s operation after her husband’s death into the late 1960s.

She enjoyed her retirement in North Hampton coming from Seabrook and was a member of the Trinity United Church in Seabrook. She was also a 48-year member of Orient Chapter No. 22 Order of Eastern Star of Exeter.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a son, Harold Andrews, one stepson, Christian H. Fredericks Jr., one stepdaughter, Dorthy Bachini, four brothers and three sisters.

Family members include one son, William A. Fredericks of Goffstown; two stepdaughters, Louise Weinhold of Salem, and Muriel Lessard of Winthrop, Mass.; 24 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Debra L. Reichlin

PORTSMOUTH - Largely attended funeral services for Debra L. Reichlin, M.S., R.D., were held at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, in Portsmouth, on Friday evening, July 12, 2002. Rev. Sharon Tinkham officiated.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

George C.G. Bloomberg

KITTERY, Maine - Funeral services for George C.G. Bloomberg, 84, were held Saturday, July 13, 2002, at St. John’s Church, Portsmouth, N.H. with Rev. Fr. Gordon Allen, rector emeritus, officiating. Burial followed in St. John’s Memorial Garden.

Remembrances of Mr. Bloomberg were given by his children, Jane B. Kawash, Manette Pacheco and George Bloomberg II.

A time of fellowship was held following the service, at the family home in Kittery.

Services were under the direction of the Wilson-Cooper Funeral Home.

Joanne M. Jameson

PORTSMOUTH - Joanne M. (Murphy) Jameson, 59, wife of David A. Jameson, of 1 Freedom Circle #14, died Saturday, July 13, 2002 at her home.

She was born In Boston on March 22, 1943, the daughter of Emma A. (Eveleth) Miller and the late Edward Murphy.

Joanne was formerly employed for Celestica.

Besides her husband and her mother, Emma Miller, and stepfather, Robert Miller, of Portsmouth, survivors include two daughters, Lisa Delisle and her husband, Rick, of Wakefield, and their children, Zack, Cecily and Haley; and Kim Love and her husband, Victor, of Portsmouth, and their children, Ashley, Nick, Jonathan, and Alex; a sister, Marilyn Mosher of Portsmouth; a brother, Paul Murphy of Eliot, Maine.

A brother, Robert Murphy, predeceased her.

JAMESON - Joanne M. (Murphy) Jameson, 59, of 1 Freedom Circle #14, Portsmouth, died July 13, 2002. Funeral services will be held at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home - Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad Street, Portsmouth, Tuesday at 11 a.m. Friends are invited. Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home Monday, 6-8 p.m. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to Seacoast Hospice, 10 Hampton Road, Exeter, NH 03833.
