Norman F. "Skip" DesRoches

NOKOMIS, Fla. - Norman F. "Skip" DesRoches, 70, died Monday, Oct. 7, 2002.

He was born on Oct. 2, 1932, in Exeter, N.H., and retired to Nokomis in 1987 from Hampton Falls, N.H.

He was an electrician with Local 490.

A U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War, he was a member of American Legion Post No. 159 in Venice.

He was also a member of Epiphany Cathedral in Venice.

Survivors include his wife, June; his father, Raymond of Rochester, N.H.; daughters Bonnie of Cornish, Maine, and Polly of Jonesboro, Ga.; sons Christopher of Dayton, Ohio, and Matthew of Farmington, N.H.; sisters Lorraine Schnarr of Augusta, Wis., Claire Audette of Brentwood, N.H., and Marilyn Adcock of Osseo, Wis.; a brother, Richard of Dover, N.H.; and nine grandchildren.

DESROCHES - Norman F. "Skip" DesRoches, 70, of Nokomis, Fla., died Oct. 7, 2002. A memorial Mass will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, at St. Michaelfs Church in Exeter. Memorial donations may be made to H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Research Center, 12902 Magnolia Drive, Tampa, FL 33612; or to Hospice of Southwest Florida, 5955 Rand Boulevard, Sarasota, FL 34238.

Estelle T. (Decatur) Martin

ALTON - Estelle T. (Decatur) Martin, 90, of Main Street, Alton, died at home on Wednesday morning Oct. 23, 2002.

Born on April 15, 1912, in Providence, R.I., she was the daughter of the late Lewis F. and Flora (Lichtenstein) Tallman. She had resided in Alton since 1965, having previously resided in Kingston. She wintered for the past 33 years in Boynton Beach, Fla.

A bookkeeper, she had been employed by Narragansett Electric, Phillips Exeter Academy and Palm Beach Country Club in Florida. She was associate and bookkeeper for her late husband.

She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, a 50-year-plus member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Kingston, a member of the Alton Garden Club and a past president of the Perry Village Ladies Club in Boynton Beach.

Estelle enjoyed yard sales, Bingo, knitting mittens to give to needy children, and also gardening.

She was predeceased by her late husband, Dr. Edwin F. Decatur.

She is survived by three sons, Lee T. and his wife, Patricia R., Decatur of Chester, Vt., E. Forrest Jr. and his wife, Estelle M., Decatur of East Kingston, Stephen and his wife, Yinghua M., Decatur of Alton; and a daughter, Mary R. Decatur of Cornish Flat; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Adine Bakie of Kingston; and a cousin, Charles Tallman, of Rye.

She was predeceased by a son, Clarence B. Decatur II; daughter-in-law, Theresa L. Decatur; and two brothers, Lewis and Warren Tallman.

MARTIN - Estelle T. (Decatur) Martin, 90, of Main Street, Alton, died Oct. 23, 2002. Calling hours are from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Oct. 26, at C.E. Peaslee and Son Alton Funeral Home, School Street in Alton, with a funeral service at noon, with the Rev. Peter Bolster, pastor of the Community Church of Alton, officiating. Interment will follow at 2 p.m. at the Greenwood Cemetery in Kingston. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to VNA/Hospice of South Carroll County and Vicinity, P.O. Alexandra Diane Hawkins

HAMPTON - Alexandra Diane Hawkins, 55, of 33 Norton Road, died Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2002, at her home.

She was born Aug. 19, 1947, in Brattleboro, Vt., the daughter of Dr. Alexander and Lucille (Howard) Ostroff. A resident Hampton since 1977, she had previously resided in Portsmouth and Wellesley, Mass.

She raised her family in a community she loved being a part of. As a prominent real estate broker for ERA Massiello, she shared her love of the area by assisting many people in search of that prefect home.

She received her bachelorfs in psychology from Barrington College in Rhode Island and her masterfs in education from Framingham State College in Massachusetts. She spent a few years as an elementary school teacher before discovering her love for real estate. She was active in the Christian Life Church in Eliot, Maine, and the New Life Assembly of God Church in Raymond.

She will be best remembered as a generous, loving and courageous woman.

In addition to her parents, family members include her son, Matt Hawkins of Hampton; two daughters, Tania Hawkins of Hampton and Melanie Hill of St. Louis; a grandson, Kenneth Hill; a brother, Donald Ostroff of Dallas, Texas; and four nieces.

HAWKINS - Alexandra Diane Hawkins, 55, of 33 Norton Road, Hampton died Oct. 22, 2002. Services will be held at the Maranatha Assembly of God, 150 High St., Hampton, on Friday at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may call at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton, on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. Burial will be in the High Street Cemetery, Hampton. If desired, memorials may be made to the Christian Life Church, 8 Eliot Commons, Eliot, ME 03903.

Mary T. Moulton

HAMPTON - The funeral for Mary T. Moulton, 54, of 8 Colonial Circle, who died Oct. 20, 2002, was held Wednesday Oct. 23, 2002, from the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church. The Rev. Michael J. Griffin, senior priest, was the celebrant. Nelson K. Ward was organist, and Patricia Mackensen was soloist.

Altar servers were Rodolphe Begin, George Glenfield and John Tanzer, all members of the Holy Name Society. Lyndol Moulton and Jamie Moulton extended the pall over the casket. Nancy Roessel and Arthur Driscoll proclaimed the readings, and Alice Driscoll and John Driscoll presented the gifts to the altar. Jamie Moulton and Kathleen K. Rush offered words of remembrance.

Burial followed in the High Street Cemetery, with the Rite of Committal conducted by the Rev. Griffin. Gordon Wilson offered Scottish laments at the cemetery. Pallbearers were Arthur Driscoll, John Driscoll, Brian Roessel, William Loftus, Walter Mumford and Mark Douglas.

Carolyn H. Pomerleau

KITTERY, Maine - Carolyn H. Pomerleau, 91, of 138 Rogers Road, died Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2002, at Edgewood Centre in Portsmouth, N.H., following a period of failing health.

Born in Kittery on Feb. 2, 1911, she was the oldest daughter of Francis L and Annie (Rounds) Hatch. She attended local schools, graduating from R.W. Traip Academy in Kittery in 1928. She furthered her education at the University of New Hampshire, graduating with a language degree in 1932. She also attended Miss Wrightfs School of Business in Portsmouth. She was employed at the George Bolter Insurance Company followed by many years at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and later by Harrison Lemont in Kittery.

She was a member of the Second Christian Church of Kittery, past president of the Kittery Womenfs Club, past president of the Piscataqua Professional and Business Womenfs club, a member of the Kittery Historical Society and a past regent of Old York Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

She is survived by a sister, Constance and her husband, Bruce, Herron of Kittery; daughter-in-law MaryAnn Fleming, and granddaughters Lynne and Laura Fleming, all of Plaistow, N.H.; niece Caro Kendel of Fremont, N.H.; nephew Mark Pilgrim and his wife, Ann, of Yorktown, Va., and their three children, Brandt, Seth and Egan; brother-in-law Edgar Rich of Colusa, Calif.; nephew Whitney Nelson of Los Angeles, Calif.; sister-in-law Irene Shevenell of Scarborough; and four stepchildren Diane and her husband, Louis Hardy, of Northport, Conn., Ronald Pomerleau and his wife, Nancy, of Amherst, N.H., Glen Pomerleau and his wife, Phyllis, of Newington, N.H., and David Pomerleau and his wife, Patricia, of Westport, Fla.

She was predeceased by her husband, Edward Pomerleau; her son, James Fleming; and her sister F. Corinne Rich.

POMERLEAU - Carolyn H. Pomerleau, 91, of 138 Rogers Road in Kittery, Maine, died Tuesday Oct. 22, 2002, at the Edgewood Centre in Portsmouth following a period of failing health. A memorial celebration will be held on Monday, Oct. 28, 2002, at 11 a.m. at her church, the Second Christian Church of Kittery. Friends are invited to visit with Mrs. Pomerleaufs family from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service at church. Family flowers only; donations may be made in her memory to the charity of onefs choice; or the Second Christian Church Elevator Fund, 33 Government St., Kittery; or St. Johnfs Lodge No. 51 F. & A.M. Research Project. c/o John O. Bond, 50 Waterside Lane, South Berwick, ME 03908-1743. Arrangements are entrusted to the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home of Kittery.

Edwin R. "Ed" Baker

EXETER - The funeral for Edwin R. "Ed" Baker, 71, of 19 Appledore Ave., was held from the Stockbridge Funeral Home, Exeter.

A celebration of his life was held in the Stratham Community Church. The Rev. Mark Strickland officiated. Edith Adams was the organist. Words of remembrance were offered by Robert Donovan and a poem was written and read by Mr. Bakerfs daughter, Julie Stevens.

Private burial was in the Maple Lane Cemetery, Stratham, with committal services conducted by Rev. Strickland. Masonic services were conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday evening by Star in the East Lodge 59 A.&F.M. of Exeter.

Aron L. Stanwood

HAMPTON - The funeral for Aron L. Stanwood, 26, of 19 Tower Drive, who died Oct. 18, 2002, was held Wednesday in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory.

The Rev. Elizabeth J. Walton, pastor of the Four Corners Advent Christian Church in Seabrook, officiated. Burial followed in the High Street Cemetery, with the committal service conducted by Rev. Walton.

Pallbearers were Michael Sullivan, Michael Sandler, Russell Holland, James Marsh, Jason Ferron and Roger Evans.

PARSONS - Winnona M. "Winnie" Parsons, 78, of Old Dennett Road in Kittery, Maine, died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002, at the Mark H. Wentworth Home in Portsmouth. A funeral will be held on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, at 9 a.m. at her church, the First Congregational Church at Kittery Point, on Pepperell Road in Kittery Point, with burial to follow in Sagamore Cemetery in Portsmouth. Family flowers only; donations may be made in her memory to the First Congregational Church at Kittery Point, Memorial Fund, 23 Pepperell Road, Kittery Point, ME 03905. Arrangements are entrusted to the J.S Pelkey Funeral Home of Kittery.

Henry L. Kecy

PORTSMOUTH - Henry L. Kecy, 77, of 424 Colonial Drive, died Friday, Oct. 18, 2002, at his home, following a period of failing health.

Born on July 1, 1926, in Nashua, a son of the late Napoleon and Margaret E. (Coffey) Kecy, he had resided in Portsmouth since 1938.

He served in the United States Army during World War II and was a disabled veteran.

He loved reading, was an avid photographer, and loved his animals, the community and helping many friends in their desperate need.

Survivors include his brother, Robert Kecy of Rochester; his sister, Harriet Hughes and her husband, John, of Oakdale, Pa.; three nieces, Cindy Paul of Moontownship, Pa., Kathy Heath of Windham, and Patricia Napoleon of Bethel Park, Pa.; two nephews, Dan Kecy of Portsmouth and Kevin Kecy of Lynn, Mass.; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

KECY - Henry L. Kecy, 77, of 424 Colonial Drive, Portsmouth, died Oct. 18, 2002. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no visiting hours. Please omit flowers. Edward Benton Miles

EXETER - Edward Benton Miles, 85, formerly of Pine Meadows Drive, died Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002, at the Exeter Hospital.

He was born Aug. 4, 1917, in Westerly, R.I., son of the late Herbert James and Caroline (Benton) Miles.

He grew up in Putnam, Conn., where he graduated from high school. He received his bachelorfs degree in architecture from the University of New Hampshire, Class of 1939. After his service in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he retired as a captain, he received a masterfs degree in architecture from Cornell University in New York on the G.I. Bill, Class of 1949.

He had resided in Exeter for the past 53 years. As a child, he spent summers on Lake Winnipesaukee. Later in life he bought a summer home on Merrymeeting Lake in Alton. He enjoyed winter vacations to Sarasota, Fla.

He worked as an architect all of his working life, running his business out of his Exeter home. He was a member of the American Institute of Architects. He served as director of the Exeter Co-operative Bank.

He was a longtime member of the First Congregational Church of Exeter and served as one of its trustees.

He was a charter member of the Exeter Rotary Club. He was an Eagle Scout as a child. In his later years, he enjoyed building model ships.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Audrey (Pettengill) Miles of Exeter; his daughter and her husband, Patricia and Joseph OfKeefe of Hampton; his son and his wife, James and Kathleen Miles of Nashua; six grandchildren, Michael OfKeefe, Sean OfKeefe, Patrick OfKeefe, Kate-Lyn OfKeefe, Timothy Miles, and Matthew Miles; one great-granddaughter, Abigail OfKeefe; one sister, Hester Eaton of Portland, Ore.; one brother-in-law, Paul Pettengill of Claremont; and several nieces and nephews.

MILES - Edward Benton Miles, 85, formerly of Pine Meadows Drive, Exeter, died Oct. 24, 2002. Calling hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2002, at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter. Burial will be in the Exeter Cemetery at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002, at the First Congregational Church of Exeter. The Rev. Jane Henderson will be officiating. Eric J. Miller

KITTERY POINT, Maine - Eric J. Miller 51, of 21 Tenney Hill Rd died suddenly Wednesday Oct. 23,2002 in Portsmouth, N.H.

Born in Portsmouth on Aug. 3,1951, he was the son of Barbara (Quinn) Martell of Kittery Point and John H. Miller of Newmarket, N.H.. He attended Winnacunnet High School in Hampton, N.H., and served in the U.S. Coast Guard in Vietnam.

In addition to his mother and father, he is survived by his wife, Cheri Miller of Woodland, Calif.; two sons, Dennis Miller and Jeffery Miller, also of Woodland; a brother, Rob Miller of Kittery Point; and aunts, uncles and cousins.

Steven W. Brooks

PORTSMOUTH - Steven W. Brooks 41, of 75 Longmeadow Lane, died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2002 at Exeter Healthcare.

Born in West Stewartstown April 13,1961, he was the son of Elaine (Holt) Brooks and Russell Brooks Sr. He was a graduate of Portsmouth High School with the Class of 1980.

Steven was an avid railroad enthusiast. In addition to his mother of Portsmouth and his father of Port Charlotte, Fla., he is survived by two brothers, Russell Brooks Jr. of Rangeley, Maine, and Jeff Brooks of Portsmouth; Three nieces; and one nephew.

BROOKS - Steven W. Brooks, 41, of Portsmouth, died Oct. 23, 2002. Services will be private. Memorials may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association 222 Auburn St., Suite 102, Portland, ME 04103. Arrangements by the Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State St, Portsmouth.

Doris L. O’Brien

DOVER - Doris L. "Dot" O’Brien, 87, of 10 Arbor Drive died Friday Oct. 25, 2002 at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital, Dover.

She was born May 27, 1915 in Cambridge, Mass., the daughter of the late Henry T. and Susan (Pardy) Curtis.

Mrs. O’Brien was a graduate of Arlington (Mass.) High School and had lived in Everett, Mass., Kingston and Hampton before moving to Dover in 1995.

A homemaker, she was a stay-at-home mother until her children graduated from high school, at which time she worked at Rockingham County Nursing Home in Brentwood.

She was the past president of the Hamilton School PTA in Everett, a charter member, and served as the first president, of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 1088 of Kingston, and was a member of the Hampton Senior Citizen’s Club.

Mrs. O’Brien was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, John F. O’Brien Sr., four brothers and one sister.

Family members include one son, Jack O’Brien of North Hampton; one daughter, Carol O’Brien of Dover; a daughter-in-law, Gina O’Brien of Hampton; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Harding "Curt" Curtis of Claremont; and several nieces and nephews.

O’BRIEN - Doris L. "Dot" O’Brien, 87, of Dover died Oct. 25, 2002. Services will be held at the United Methodist Church, 525 Lafayette Road, Hampton, Tuesday at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may call at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, Hampton, Monday, 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.. If desired, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01710-4688. Burial will be in the Holbrook Cemetery, Candia.
