Rossi, John

John P. Rossi, 61 of 94 Union Street, died Sunday February 6, 2005 at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital after a brief illness.

John was born in Dover on June 2, 1943 and was the son of John and Catherine (Cincotta) Rossi. He was raised in Dover and Berwick and was a graduate of Berwick High School, Class of 1962. John had lived in Dover most of his life and had moved to Somersworth 5 years ago.

After high school he went to work for Kidder Press and after a time entered the U. S. Army, serving with The Special Forces. He served in Vietnam for two years, receiving two purple hearts for injuries sustained during that conflict.

Upon return from the service he went back to work for Kidder Press (Moore) Dover as a machinist, retiring with over 35 years of service to the company.

John was active in Veteran's affairs and held membership with the VFW and with the American Legion Post 8 of Dover. He was also a member of the Dover Elks Lodge #184 and the Loyal Order of Moose #443 of Dover.

He enjoyed sports and enjoyed the times with his friends and family.

Family members include his son, John M. Rossi and his wife Lynn of Buckeye, AZ. Two sisters, Joan Light and her husband Warren of Dover and Phyllis Powell and her husband David of Nickleton, NJ. Two grandchildren, Cote Tibbetts and Elisa Wiseman.

Friends may visit with John's family on Friday from 9 to 11:00am at Bernier Funeral Home, 49 South Street, Somersworth, NH. Funeral services will follow in the funeral home at 11:00am. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Dover Point Road, Dover, following services. The family request that memorial contributions be made in his name to the Norris Cotton Cancer Center, One Medical Center Drive, Lebanon, NH 03756-0001.

Rouleau, Richard

Richard Martin Rouleau, born Dec. 7, 1933, of Marco Island, Fla., and Wells, Maine, longtime resident of Somersworth, N.H., died peacefully with his family at his side on April 10, 2006 at Naples Community Hospital in Naples, Fla.

Born and raised in Somersworth, he attended St. Martin Catholic School through Grade 8, followed by Commercial School. He married Irene Vachon, his high school sweetheart, Jan. 2, 1954. Richard and Irene enjoyed 52 years together and raised five wonderful children.

He was the owner of R.M. Rouleau, Inc., General Contractors of Somersworth for 35 years, until his retirement in 1991. He was a 30-year member of Kiwanis Club of Somersworth, including stints as local club president and lieutenant governor of the Southern NH Chapter.

After his "retirement," he became a longtime volunteer with Habitat for Humanity, primarily in Collier County, Fla.; he played a key role in large Habitat "builds" in Americus, Ga., Washington, D.C., Kauai, Hawaii, and the Philippines.

He was a communicant at San Marco Catholic Church on Marco Island; St. Mary's Church in Wells and St. Martin Parish in Somersworth. He will be dearly missed by his devoted and loving family, including his wife, Irene; children, Jeanne (Richard) Trent of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. Rachel (Thomas) Prescott of Grapevine, Texas, Louise (Dean) Gadapee of Dover, N.H., Ben Rouleau of Marco Island and Richard (Paulette) Rouleau of Somersworth; grandchildren, Christine Fike, Robert Plante, Derrick and Christopher Bell, Justin, Alex and Ashley Rouleau, and Tanya and Brian Rouleau; great-grandchildren, Kaitlin and Skylar Wolff and Zachary Fike; brothers, Armand, Valmore, Robert, Lucien, and twin, Gerard Rouleau; many nieces and nephews, friends and most everyone who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Archille and Blanche; son, Norbert; brother, Joseph; and sister, Therese Richard.

Family and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, April 18, from noon to 2 p.m. at Fuller Funeral Home, 4735 Tamiami Trail East. Following the visitation, a funeral Mass will be celebrated at San Marco Catholic Church, 851 San Marco Road, Marco Island, Fla., starting at 3 p.m.

Memorial services and interment will be at a later date at Mount Calvary Cemetery, St. Martin Parish in Somersworth, N.H.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Habitat for Humanity of Collier County; 11145 Tamiami Trail East; Naples, FL 34113.

The Fuller Funeral Home, Naples, Florida, was in charge of arrangements.

Sansoucie, Arthur

Arthur Sansoucie, 83, of Debary, Fla., passed away unexpectedly Feb. 25, 2006, at Central Florida regional Hospital in Sanford, Fla.

Born in Manchester, N.H., he was the son (of a family of 14 siblings) of Emelia and George Sansoucie.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Emily (Machos) Sansoucie; son, Gary Sansoucie of Rochester, N.H., and Titusville, Fla.; daughters, Marcia Sansoucie of Wells, Maine and Gayla Sansoucie-Jones of Debary; sisters, Cecelia Earle of Lady Lakes, Fla., Corrine Sechrest of Lady lakes, Dorothy Oliver of Manchester and Florence Bradbury of Leesburg, Fla.; four grandchildren, Glen Sansoucie of North Berwick, Maine, Cassidy Bisson of Wells, Maine, Eric and Jenna Fuller of Debary; great-grandchildren, Mikalah, Miranda and Jacob Sansoucie of North Berwick.

He was predeceased by his son, Barry Sansoucie and grandson, 2nd Lt. Curt Sansoucie.

Arthur was proud of his service to his country in World War II and was the recipient of the Purple Heart and the bronze Star for his heroic actions. He was the founder of Northern Heel Corp. in Dover, N.H., and Auburn, Maine.

He and his wife lived in Manchester, N.H., Lewiston, Maine, and southern New Hampshire before retiring to central Florida in the early 1970s. In most recent years, he loved to plant seeds of flowers and vegetables. He loved to spend time with his family, who he always put first, above all else, including himself.

He will be remembered by everyone to be a thoughtful, kind and considerate man. He always took time to stop and talk with everyone he met and always had a kind word for all.

A Memorial Service was held in Debary, Fla., following his death and a funeral Mass will be held in Somersworth, N.H., at St. Martin Church on Friday, April 21 at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Martin Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest next to his son, Barry and near his grandson, Curt.

A luncheon will follow at St. Martin Church.

Fillion, Ernest

Ernest C. Fillion, 91, of 6 Lemelin Court, died Monday, April 17, 2006, at the Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover.

He was born in Salmon Falls, N.H., Feb. 23, 1915, the son of Zepherine and Emma (Roux) Fillion. He was educated in local schools.

Upon his marriage, he moved to Somersworth and had resided here for many years.

He owned and operated Silver St. Market in Dover with his brother, Fred.

He later worked for many years as a route salesman for Nissen Bread Co., and after his retirement, he continued to work for the Gauthier's 125 Restaurant in Lee, a family owned business.

Ernie and Ida enjoyed traveling, snowmobiling and staying occupied.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Rita Loretta (Joyal) Fillion, who died in 1972 and his son, Robert W. Fillion, who died in 1993.

Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Ida ( LeHoullier) Fillion of Somersworth; a daughter, Elaine Kinville of Somersworth; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; three stepsons, Paul Gauthier of Ossipee, Michael Gauthier and Marc Gauthier, both of Rochester; two stepdaughters, Joan Blanchette of Rochester, and Carole Adams of Cape Coral, Fla., and their children and grandchildren; nieces and nephews

Friends may call Thursday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Roberge Funeral Home, 298 High St., Somerswoth, N.H. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Friday at St. Martin Church. Burial will take place at a later date.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Fund.

Gouin, Albert

Albert J. Gouin Jr. of Somersworth, N.H., died suddenly on Tuesday, April 18, 2006, at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital.

He was born Feb. 25, 1917, in Fall River, Mass., the son of Albert J. and Olive (Martel) Gouin. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the South Pacific during World War II. He was awarded a Bronze Star. He moved to Somersworth in 1946, where he began work as a stitching room machinist in area shoe shops. He retired from Colby Footwear at the age of 81.

He was a family man that loved spending time at home, fishing and visiting friends.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Elia (Chasse) Gouin; his son, Raymond and his wife, Phyllis, of Searcy, Ariz.; his daughter, Claudette and her husband, Conrad Fredette, of Rochester; seven grandchildren, Donna Kendrick, Denise Beaumont, Diane Killough, Debra Vaughn of Arkansas and Bradley, Gregory, and Chelsey Fredette of Rochester. He also leaves behind six great-grandchildren; his sister, Theresa Rowe of Swansea, Mass., and his beloved dog, Cricket.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Ernest and Wilfred Gouin, and his sisters, Beatrice Wilkie and Anita Walker.

Friends may call Friday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Roberge Funeral Home, 298 High St., Somersworth. The American Legion will hold a service at 6 p.m. at the Funeral Home.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at noon on Saturday at St. Martin Church with burial to follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Koser, Mary

Nokomis Florida - Mary (Marie Ange Moore) Koser 86, of 70 Sixth Street, went to our Lord on April 16th Easter Sunday 2006.

Mary was born in Somersworth on September 5, 1919 and was the daughter of Francois and Maria (Marois) Moore. She was raised in Somersworth and educated in the Somersworth School System. After the death of her first husband, Mary had moved to Lowell, Ma and eventually moved to Florida where she had lived for the past 13 years.

Mary was a strong believer in the Catholic Faith and went to Mass religiously. In her early years she enjoyed camping, gardening and family outings. Later in life she enjoyed mall walking, shopping and dining with her family.

Mary had a strong love for all of her family and enjoyed sharing stories and pictures every chance that she could. She loved life and brought joy and laughter to all of those around her.

She went to our Lord peacefully at home with her family and will be greatly missed by all. Her memory will live on in our hearts eternally.

She is survived by her sons Richard Moreau and his wife Terry of Albany Georgia and Alfred Moreau and his dear friend John of Nokomis, Fl. By grandchildren Maria, Christopher, Annette, Cory, Michael, Kevin and Steven and his wife Rachel, her eight great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and godchildren.

She is also survived by her brothers and sisters Theresa Tardiff of Somersworth, NH, Jeannette Veno of Dover, NH Jerry Moore and his wife Priscilla, of Rochester, NH Lucille Desilets and her husband George, Robert Moore, of Naples Fl. Alice Gagnon and her husband Vick of Somersworth, NH Raymond Moore and his wife Pat of Somersworth, NH Richard Moore and his wife Terry of Gonic, NH, and Larry Moore and his wife Arlene of Newmarket, NH.

Her first husband Roger Moreau, her second husband Philip Koser and her sister Madeline Demers preceded her in death.

Calling hours at Bernier Funeral Home, 49 South Street, Somersworth, NH will be on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:00AM in St. Martin Catholic Church with Rev. Aaron Pfaff, Pastor as celebrant. Burial will be in the family lot in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Somersworth, NH.

Lussier, Martin

Martin P. Lussier, 86, of 3A Colonial Dr. died Tues. Apr. 25 at the Wentworth-Douglass hospital in Dover, NH.

Martin was born Jan. 31, 1920 in Adams, MA. The son of Jean and Carrie (Lamphear) Lussier. He was educated in Mass Schools.

Martin was an Army Veteran of WWII having served in the South Pacific Theater. Martin had lived in the Seacoast area since 1947. He was active in his community serving on various boards. In Somersworth and Rollinsford he served on the school board and other committees.

He had been a State representative for six years.

Martin was a member of the American Legion Post # 49 of Rollinsford, the Lions Club, and was a Communicant of Holy Trinity Church.

Martin was predeceased by a brother, Harold N. Lussier who died in 1999. Martin is survived by his wife of 61 years, Theresa(Martin) Lussier of Somersworth; 2 sons Robert R. Lussier of Manchester, NH and Paul A. Lussier of Northwood, NH; 3 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; Nieces and nephews.

A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Sat. 10AM at Holy Trinity Church. Burial will be at a later date. Memorials may be made to Catholic Charities.

Ballentine, John

John J. Ballentine of 9 Lakeview Drive died at the Wentworth-Douglas Hospital on April 27, 2006. He had been in poor health recently but remained active from his Lily Pond residence. He was a retired book publisher and former local newspaper owner.

John was born April 2, 1927 in Didsbury (Manchester), England, the son of Joseph B. and Winifred (Knight) Ballentine. He was an American citizen at birth and came to this country when of grade school age. His family settled in Wolfeboro where he graduated from Brewster Academy and went on to receive an AB from Syracuse University in Journalism and Political Science and an MA from the University of Minnesota.

As a student at Syracuse, Ballentine was active in the local and national movement of the National Independent Students Association (NISA), an organization of 3,000 college students. When a senior at Syracuse he was elected NISA’s national president.

His first job after college was as executive director of a building and development fund for Brewster Academy; its goal was the construction of a badly needed gymnasium. He was next employed for two years in Laconia by the Laconia Evening Citizen and from 1954-55 was elected to the State Legislature from Laconia’s Ward 4. The Citizen’s publisher at the time, Edward Gallagher, encouraged him to remain on the newspaper staff and write editorials and a regular column based on his Concord legislative experiences as vice-chairman of the House Education Committee.

In 1956 John purchased the combined printing plant and weekly newspaper, the Somersworth Free Press, which had been owned by Ann and Theodore Coolidge, parents of attorney Clyde R. Coolidge. In 1964 he was elected for a two year term as the founding president of the New England Weekly Press Association, the forerunner of today’s New England Press Association.

He was active in a broad range of community projects in this city. These included founder and co-chairman with the late Kenneth Blaisdell of the first Conservation Commission which was responsible for one of this city’s early tree-planting efforts. He was an organizer and president of the Summersworth Historical Society in the 1970’s and 1980’s. His interests were broad and included collecting antiquarian books, of which a collection of the 19th century South Berwick author, Sarah Orne Jewett, was especially fine.

Ballentine sold the weekly Free Press in 1966 and then founded a Somersworth book publishing company with a dual imprint – New Hampshire Publishing Co. and New England History Press. The former created a series of outdoor guide books. The latter reprinted 19th century New England town histories and genealogies.

In recent years, John authored the “Free Press Chronicles” for the Somersworld.com website recounting and offering commentary on stories which once made headlines in the Somersworth Free Press.

He was a communicant of The First Parish United Church of Christ in Somersworth. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Anna “Pat” (Morse) Ballentine in 1994. John is survived by his sister, Mary Ballentine of Wolfeboro, New Hampshire; a sister-in-law, Margaret Kimball Morse of Atkinson, New Hampshire; a brother-in-law, Charles F. J. Morse of Manchester, Connecticut and by several cousins in Wolfeboro and in England; and many good friends.

Funeral services will be held at The First Parish United Church of Christ in Somersworth. on Tuesday, May 2, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. There are no calling hours. Laing-Bibber Funeral Chapel of Berwick, Maine, is handling final arrangements.

Bonanno, Sam

Salvatore J. Bonanno, 89, of High St. died Thursday April 20, 2006 at the Maine Medical Center in Portland, ME after a short illness.

Born November 22, 1916 in Brooklyn, NY he was the son of the late Joseph and Rose (Castellano) Bonanno.

Sam was a veteran of WWII, serving in the Army Air Corps. During his enlistment he was in the China Theater and had successfully traveled the Burma Road from India to China.

Since 1953, Sam was the founder and owner of Star Lumber Co. in Somersworth, NH.

He had a kind nature and a great sense of humor. He loved children, friends and music. In the winter he would spend time at his residence in Naples, FL and enjoyed summers at the beach in Wells, ME where he looked forward to playing cribbage at the senior center.

Sam is survived by the Scott family of Somersworth where he lived and was a part of their lives for over 50 years. He is also survived by one brother Rosario Bonanno of, Narberth, PA; one sister, Mary Romagnano of Queens, NY and several nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his wife Marie, one brother Dr. Anthony Bonanno and three sisters; Pauline Genco, Jessie Loiacono and Jean Bonanno.

Friends may call Monday April 24 from 2-4 and 7-9 at the Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home, 655 Central Ave Dover, NH. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 25, 10am at the Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home with Fr. Robert Cole from St. Josephs Church, officiating.

Burial will follow at the Evergreen cemetery, Berwick, ME.

Richard A. Jacques

Berwick, Maine - Richard A. Jacques, 75 of 34 Sawmill Hill Road died quietly at his home on Thursday July 22, 2004 after a period of failing health in the presence of his family. Richard was the last of 13 children, born November 30th 1928 in Somersworth, NH. He was the son of Augustine E. and Anna (Plante) Jacques. Richard was raised in Somersworth and was a graduate of St. Martin Academy. He lived in Berwick for over 55 years with his wife Mary (Tarr). Together they raised 10 children.

Richard was retired from the PNSY in 1989 where he worked for 10 years, before that he worked for Robert’s Shoe in Somersworth, NH for 27 years. He was also employed for a time with Boulanger Paving Co.

Mr. Jacques was an active communicant of St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Somersworth all of his life. He loved his wife, children and grand children very much. He also enjoyed taking long rides nightly with his daughter Linda to go and visit other family members. Richard loved to read the Bible, work in his garden, listen to Gospel music and take care of his bird feeders. Our father will be remembered as a loving husband and father with a great sense of humor, kind heart and gentle smile. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved him.

Family members include his remaining 9 children; Robert A Jacques and his wife Connie, Alfred J. Jacques and his wife Susan all of South Berwick, Linda J. Jacques of Berwick, David A. Jacques and wife Kathleen of Lebanon, Richard J. (Ben) Jacques and his wife Murielle of Berwick, Darlene M. Irons of Somersworth, Elizabeth A. Maker of Berwick, Michael J. Jacques and his wife Catherine of Berwick and Lisa A Scarborough and her husband Michael of Bremington, WA; 20 grandchildren and nine great grand children and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Richard was predeceased by all of his brothers and sisters. He was pre-deceased by his daughter Diane M. Haines, who died in 1989. His wife Mary (Tarr) Jacques predeceased him in March 2003.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 360 State Route 101, Suite 501, Bedford, NH 03110-5032.

Kenneth K. Luscomb

Somersworth, NH -Kenneth K. Luscomb, Sr., 74, husband of Rosemary “Pat” (Vigneault) Luscomb, of 6 Crystal Springs Mobile Home Park, passed away peacefully Thursday, July 8, 2004 at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital. He lost a courageous battle of failing health and kidney failure with his wife of 30 years and loving children at his side.

Kenneth was born in Lynn, MA October 21, 1929 the son of Arthur W. and Helen (Thompson) Luscomb. Following the death of his father he was raised by his mother and his stepfather, Fred Drew of Brookfield, NH. He attended local schools and grew up in Brookfield. He then moved to Milton Mills where he lived for 30 years, He worked at local businesses, New England Lumber Co., Hurd’s Lumber Co., twenty five years at Green Tannery and 30 years at Clarostat Manufacturing of Dover from where he retired in 1990. Besides being a loving husband and father, he loved going out in his boat fishing, and he hunted when he was able. He belonged to the Milton Mills Fire Department for many years. He enjoyed building model wooden airplanes and wood working. He was an avid race car fan. He also loved visiting with people and telling a good story. Kenneth touched the hearts of so many people with kindness, love , his personality, smile and a firm handshake.

Family members include his loving wife Rosemary “Pat” (Vigneault) Luscomb of Somersworth;the girls, Penny and Mandie; his five loving children, Helen Glennon and her husband Wesley of Bonita Springs, FL, Karen Ryan and her husband Joseph of East Wakefield, Kenneth Luscomb, Jr., of Bonita Springs, FL, Cindy and her husband Thomas Maier of Wicky Wachie, FL, and Wanda Holmes and her husband John of Rollinsford; 12 grandchildren, Jennifer Paul and her husband Kenneth of Sanbornville, Heather Feddern and her husband Mark of Chocorua, Michelle Glaude of Rochester, Tammy Mooney of Rochester, Joshua Luscomb of Loudon, Jodi Luscomb of Dover, Julie Luscomb of Ossipee, David “D.J.” Crawford, Jr. of Portsmouth, Amy Crawford of East Wakefield, Christopher Luscomb of Sanford, ME, Chantel Holmes of Rollinsford, and Kurt Holmes of Rollinsford; nine great grandchildren, Heather and Kenneth Paul of Sanbornville, Zachery Feddern and Megan Feddern of Chocorua, Krystal Atkinson of Rochester, Matthew and Kendra Fogg of Rochester, Brittany Cormier of Rochester, and Alexis Mooney of Rochester; two great great grandchildren, Cooper Luscomb of Dover and Kennedie Luscomb of Sanford.

He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Marjorie Viollette.

Agnes Sheldon

Somersworth, NH -Agnes Loretta Sheldon 82 yrs a resident of Tri City Road Somersworth, NH formerly of Berwick, Me died Monday July 12, 2004 at the Wentworth Douglass Hospital in Dover, NH after a long illness.

She was born in Brookfield Center, CT. on February 21, 1922 a daughter of William Francis and Agnes Camilla (McKenna) Hollace. She graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Dover.

She was a homemaker for most of her life.

Agnes enjoyed travel and spending time with her family.

She was predeceased by her brother William Hollace and her sister Eleanor Metivier.

She is survived by her husband of 63 yrs Lester Sheldon of Somersworth, NH., two sons Lester J. Sheldon of Kittery, Me and Lawrence E. Sheldon of Denver, CO. A daughter Doreen A. Rembert of Portland, ME and 5 Grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Berwick, Me.
