Catherine M. Mercier

BLACKSTONE, Mass. - Catherine M. Mercier, 96, formerly of Joseph Early Village, died Thursday, Jan. 18, 2001, at the Rockingham County Nursing Home, Brentwood.

She was born May 22, 1904, in Blackstone, the daughter of the late John and Agnes (Shurick) O'Neil and was educated in Blackstone schools.

Mrs. Mercier was a specker inspector for the woolen and textile mills in Blackstone and Woonsocket, R.I.

The widow of Alfred L. Mercier, who died in 1988, she is survived by two daughters, Eleanor Reid of Brentwood and Carol Ellison of Eugene, Ore.; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. in St. Paul's Cemetery, Blackstone.

Arrangements are by the Stockbridge Funeral Home, Exeter.

Gertrude L. Parshley

BRENTWOOD - Gertrude L. Parshley, 84, of Crawley Falls Road, died Thursday, Jan. 18, 2001, in Exeter Hospital.

She was born May 27, 1916, in Boston, the daughter of the late George O. and Gertrude S. (Jones) Hemenway and had resided in the Brentwood area for 45 years.

Mrs. Parshley owned and operated a ceramics business from her home for 22 years. She had previously been employed by Wise Shoe Co. and Alrose Shoe Co.

She was a member of Brentwood Baptist Church where she a member of the Ladies Circle and taught Sunday school and was a member of the Brentwood Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.

The widow of Sidney Parshley, she is survived by three daughters, Sharon Copeland of Brentwood, Susan Parshley of Hampton and Barbara Jackson of Groton, Conn.; three sons, Robert Parshley of Kingston, George MacDonald of Brentwood and Carl Runge of Florida; 17 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by one daughter, Shirley Kane.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Brentwood Baptist Church with the Rev. Gary Andy officiating. Spring burial will be in Brentwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Brentwood Baptist Church, North Road, Brentwood, NH 03833 or to Seacoast Hospice, 10 Hampton Road, Exeter, NH 03833.

Arrangements are by the Brewitt Funeral Home, Exeter.

James F. Piper Sr.

CHARLESTOWN - James Frederic Piper Sr., 88, of Judland Heights, died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, at his home.

He was born Oct. 5, 1912, in Marblehead, Mass., the son of Mark and Annie (Stafford) Piper and resided in New Hampshire for most of his life.

He was a graduate of Coe-Brown Academy, Northwood, and attended Essex Agriculture School in Massachusetts.

Mr. Piper was employed by the State of New Hampshire Department of Transportation, retiring in 1974.

He attended North Charlestown Methodist Church.

He enjoyed crossword puzzles, small woodworking projects and attending his grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's sporting events.

He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Evelyn T. Piper; one son, James Piper Jr. of Rye; two daughters, Elizabeth Gaskell of Portsmouth and Patricia Graves of Springfield, Vt.; five stepchildren, Patricia Robinson of Bellows Falls, Vt., Augusta Manzanera of Boca Raton, Fla.; Barbara Clemens of Concord, Larry Martin of Concord, N.C., and Sharon Fish of Westmoreland; 29 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Phyllis W. Piper, the mother of his children; one grandson, Benjamin Piper; one brother, Stafford Piper; and one sister, Gladys P. Blaney.

There are no calling hours.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, Jan, 27, at 1 p.m. in Rye Congregational Church, 580 Washington Road, Rye. Spring burial will be in Northwood Ridge Cemetery, Northwood.

Steven W. Smith

SEABROOK - Steven W. Smith, 51, of 117 Cimarron Drive, died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, in Exeter Hospital.

He was born March 5, 1949, in Franklin, the son of the late Everett and Phyllis (Brailey) Smith Sr., and had resided in Seabrook for several years.

He was educated in Laconia schools.

Mr. Smith worked for the Martin Company in Seabrook and was previously employed by the former Pierce Leather Co. in Hampton.

He is survived by his companion of 15 years, Laurel Smith of Kensington; three sons, Matthew Smith of Florida, Wayne P. Currier and Billy J. Currier, both of Kensington; four daughters, Stephanie Smith and Crystal Smith, both of Amesbury, Mass., Elizabeth A. Currier of Kensington and Amanda Smith of Florida; two grandchildren; five brothers, Robert Champagne of Seabrook, Everett Smith Jr. and Michael Smith, both of Belmont, Kenneth Smith of Laconia and Greg Smith of Meredith; five sisters, Linda Moore and Jennifer Smith, both of Laconia, Karmen Bean of Pittsfield, Vanessa Smith of Northfield and Vickie Bunneau of Rochester; and many nieces and nephews.

There are no calling hours.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton.

Joseph A. Adamski

BEDFORD - Joseph Alexander Adamski, 75, of 11 Old Coventry Lane, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, at his home after an extended illness.

He was born March 20, 1925, in Exeter, the son of Margaret (Novak) Adamski of Exeter and the late Ignacy Adamski. He resided in Framingham, Mass., for 46 years, moving to Bedford last year.

He was a 1943 graduate of Exeter High School and received his engineering degree from N.H. Tech.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II serving as a member of the first wave at Omaha Beach in Normandy. He served a second tour of duty in the Korean Conflict.

Mr. Adamski owned and was president of Parke Mathematical Co. of Lowell, Mass., retiring two years ago. He was previously employed as an electrical engineer for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology at the Lincoln Labs and worked at Rome Labs at Hanscomb Air Force Base growing crystals in the research and development department for more than 20 years.

He held several patents in electronics. and was listed in Who's Who in American Scientists. He had published many technical papers and spoke at many international conferences.

He enjoyed collecting model trains and sailing.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Christa (Priemel) Adamski of Bedford; two daughters and their husbands, Carleen and Steven Korkin of Bedford and Robin and Richard Arrighi of West Palm Beach. Fla.; four grandchildren; four stepchildren, Jean Maurice, Brenda Barrows, James Barrows and Michael Barrows; one brother, Theodore Adamski of Exeter; one sister, Pearl Lancaster of Wells, Maine; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his first wife of 43 years, Peggy (Ciccola) Adamski, who died in 1991.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Michael Church, Exeter. Military burial will be at 1 p.m. in Edgell Grove Cemetery, Framingham.

Memorial donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, One Tremont St., Concord, NH 03301.

Anne Bacon

EXETER - Anne Bacon, 80, died Tuesday, January 27, 2001, at SunBridge Care.

She was born Feb. 17, 1920, in Vladivostak, Russia, the daughter of the late Simon and Hrepcema "Ruth" (Kaprelian) Torosian. She was a longtime resident of Oakland Street, Newburyport, Mass., and had resided in Exeter for four years.

She was a 1938 graduate of Newburyport High School.

Mrs. Bacon worked for General Electric Corp., Lynn, Mass., for more than 27 years and was a library assistant at the Newburyport Public Library.

She was an active member of Belleville Congregational Church, Newburyport, in doing volunteer work.

She was an air raid warden in Newburyport during World War II. She enjoyed crafts, flower arranging, cooking, the beach and traveling.

The widow of William A. Bacon, who died in 1996, she is survived by one daughter and her husband, Sandra R. and Patrick Seekamp of Brentwood; three grandchildren; one brother, Eprem Torosian of Amesbury, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon at Simplicity Burial & Cremation Services, 287 High St., Newburyport. Funeral services will follow at noon.

Albertine Brideau

SEABROOK - Albertine Brideau, 91, of 4 Whittier Drive, died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001, at the Rockingham County Nursing Home, Brentwood.

She was born Nov. 9, 1909, in Amesbury, Mass., the daughter of the late Napoleon and Odile (LeClair) Hamel and resided in Amesbury for most of her life, moving to Seabrook six years ago.

Mrs. Brideau was a fancy heel coverer for New England Wood Heel in Amesbury for almost 50 years, until the factory closed. She then worked for the Stride Rite Shoe Factory in Newburyport, Mass., for 10 years.

She was a lifelong communicant of Sacred Heart Church, Amesbury, and was active with the Amesbury and Seabrook Senior Citizen Clubs.

She is survived by two sons, Norman J. Hebert of Fremont and Robert Hebert of North Hampton; four daughters, Yvonne Losilot of Blackwell, Mo., and Shirley Clocher, Sheila Vaivoda and Helen McGary, all of Seabrook; 21 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Thursday in Sacred Heart Church, Amesbury.

Memorial donations may be made to the Activities Fund at Rockingham County Nursing Home, 117 North Road, Brentwood, NH 03833.

Arrangements were by the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, Hampton.

Norman R. Howcroft

NEWMARKET - Norman R. Howcroft, 78, of Spring Street, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001 in Exeter Hospital.

He was born Dec. 19, 1922, in Exeter, the son of Herbert and Elizabeth (Kelly) Howcroft.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II stationed with the IX Air Defense Command and fought at Normandy.

Mr. Howcroft retired from the Macallen Co., Newmarket, and was previously employed at Sam Smith Shoe for many years.

He was a 42 year member of the Robert G. Durgin American Legion Post No. 67 in Newmarket; the Veterans of Foreign Post No. 15030; and the American Rifleman Association.

He is survived by three sons, Norman "Buzzy" Howcroft of Epping, Michael Howcroft of Milton and William Nisbet of Newmarket; three daughters, Norma E. Howcroft of Newmarket, Kathleen R. Taveirne of Russell, Minn., and Brenda Norris of Walden, N.Y.; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, Donald Howcroft of Newmarket; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home, 77 Exeter St., Newmarket. American Legion services will be held at 7 p.m.

Funeral Services will be held Friday at 8 p.m. in the funeral home. Spring burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Newmarket.

Ernest Pelletier

NEWMARKET - Ernest Pelletier, 84, of Lamprey River Park, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, at the Veterans Home in Manchester.

He was born Sept. 5, 1916, in Newmarket, the son of Alex and Rose Alma (Martel) Pelletier and was a lifelong resident of Newmarket.

He was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II.

Mr. Pelletier was a shoe worker at Rockingham Shoe and Sam Smith Shoe, both in Newmarket, and Alrose Shoe in Exeter.

He was a 56 year member of the Robert G. Durgin American Legion Post 67 and the Newmarket Historical Society.

He was a communicant of St. Mary Church, Newmarket.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Jackie (Cardin) Pelletier of Newmarket; two brothers, Phillip Pelletier of Columbus, Ohio, and Raymond Pelletier of Epping; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home, 77 Exeter St., Newmarket. A Funeral Prayer Service will be held at 3 p.m. and American Legion services will be held at 4 p.m.

Spring burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Newmarket.
