Eleanor Archuleta passed on to the loving arms of the Lord on Thursday, May 8, 2003. She was born on April 11, 1906 near Las Vegas, New Mexico and moved to Albuquerque in the late 1950's. She never married and although she had no children of her own, she devoted her life to caring and loving all of her nieces and nephews. Her gifts were many. She worked during World War II as a welder at the shipyards in California. Her work was considered to be among the best. She worked many years as a nursing assistant at the then Bernalillo County Medical Center. When she retired she continued to care and board many elderly and ill patients in her home. She loved and raised Schnauzers until she could no longer keep them. On her 94th birthday, she invited all of her nieces and nephews over to her apartment where she prepared and served the most elegant dinner. She taught us all so very much. Her legacy was her unconditional love, her simple and humble life reminding us that nothing belongs to her, it all belongs to God. Until the end, she had such a wonderful wit and a special heart. She is survived by her sister, Agnes Archuleta; nieces, Connie Jessen and husband, Larry, Loretta Bates and husband, Jim, Lorraine Cano, Christine Peterson and Julia Gallegos of Las Vegas, NM; nephew, Phil Archuleta and wife, Viola of San Diego. She is also survived by many great-nieces and nephews who considered her to be the GREATEST Aunt. A Rosary will be recited at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church on Thursday, May 15, 2003 at 7:00 p.m. A Mass will be held on Friday, May 16, 2003 at 3:00 p.m. The family would like to thank all of her caregivers at Laurel View HealthCare and Presbyterian Hospice.
