Memorial Services for James H. Edwards 71, of Grants, will be held on March 7, 2009, at 5 p.m. at Immanuel Baptist Church.

Pastor Garland Moore will be the celebrant.

A reception will be held at 820 Lobo Canyon Road after the service.

Joyce Kiszka

A memorial Funeral Mass for Joyce Jean Kiszka, 77, of Grants, will be held on March 7, 2009, at 11 a.m. at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church.

Burial will follow at the Grants Memorial Park.

The Very Rev. Alberto Avella will be the celebrant.

A rosary will be held on March 6, 2009, at 7 p.m. at the church.

Edna Leon

Funeral Mass for Edna O. Leon, 77, of the Pueblo of Acoma, will be held on March 4, 2009, at 10 a.m. at the Santa Maria Catholic Church in Acoma.

Burial will follow at the Mount of Peace in Acoma.

Lawrence Atsye

Funeral Services for Lawrence R. Atsye, 84, of New Laguna were held on July 30, 2009, at 10 a.m. at the Calvary Gospel Chapel in Casablanca.

Pastor Daniel Carr officiated.

Burial followed at the Old Laguna Cemetery.

David Garcia

Rosary and Funeral Mass for David "Prim" Garcia, 79, of Grants, will be held on Aug. 3, 2009, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church.

Burial will follow at the Grants Memorial Park.

Patricia Cheromiah

A rosary was recited for Patricia L. Cheromiah, 48, on July 24, 2009, at 7 p.m. at the family home in Paguate.

Interment took place at Mount of Peace Cemetery in McCartys.

Steven Short

Services for Steven Paul Short, 59, of Bluewater Lake, will be held on July 24, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Compassion Mortuary.

Aubry Pierce

Memorial services for Aubry R. Pierce, will be held on July 25, 2009, at Hew Hope Outreach in Milan.

The Rev. Clyde Clark will officiate.

Melisa Lewis

Services for Melisa Jane Lewis, 50, of San Fidel, were held on July 20, 2009, at 2 p.m. at the Immanuel Baptist Church in Milan.

Pastor Garland Moore officiated.

Burial took place on July 22, 2009, in the Cario Church Cemetery in Cario, Tenn.

Frank Johnson

Traditional funeral services for Frank F. Johnson, 88, will be at the family home in Paraje, Pueblo of Laguna.

Alan Yaryan

Memorial services for Alan Ross Yaryan, 51, will be held at a later date.

Robert Molina

Funeral Mass for Robert Molina, 75, of Grants, was held on July 9, 2009, at 10 a.m. at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church.

The Very Rev. Alberto Avella was the Celebrant.

Burial followed at the Grants Memorial Park.

A Rosary was recited on July 8, 2009, at 7 p.m. at the church.

Joyce L Kipp

A memorial service for Joyce L. Kipp will be held on July 3, 2009, at 4 p.m. at the Bluewater Lake Water Building in Prewitt.

Clarence Worthen

Services for Clarence Albert Worthen, 80, of Grants, will be held on July 6, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Compassion Mortuary.

Pastor Lonnie Jordan will officiate.

Burial will follow at Grants Memorial Park.

Bella Garcia

The Mass of Christian Burial for Bella Eva Garcia will be celebrated on Dec. 15, 2008, at 9 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas. A memorial service was conducted in Phoenix on Dec. 10, 2008, where the eulogy was given by Anthony Edwards, now retired from the Phoenix Cardinals. A rosary will be recited in Las Vegas on Dec. 14, 2008, at 7 pm.

Bella Eva Garcia passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Dec. 6, 2008, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix, Ariz. She was born in the village of San Jose to Frutoso and Magdalena (Gallegos) Garcia. She attended elementary school in San Jose and was a graduate of Robertson High School in Las Vegas. She received her BA and MA degrees from New Mexico Highlands University. She taught school for the West Las Vegas School District, and she became the first female principal in the history of that school district. She was the principal of both Don Cecilio Martinez Elementary and Armijo Elementary schools until her retirement from the West Las Vegas School District in 1993. Mrs. Garcia moved to Mesa, Ariz., and continued her teaching career at Emerson Elementary in Phoenix until her retirement from the Phoenix Elementary School District. She maintained dual residency in New Mexico and Arizona. She enjoyed the summers in Las Vegas and the winters in Arizona. She was an avid sports fan, and she frequently attended professional basketball, football, and baseball games and was fortunate enough to attend world series baseball games and cheer the hometown team to victory. Bella enjoyed the college sports scene in the Phoenix area, but most of all loved attending her son Joseph's basketball games at North High School where Joseph is the head varsity basketball coach. She enjoyed collecting sports memorabilia, gardening, tending to her yard and listening to Elvis Presley music. As an educator, Mrs. Garcia touched many lives, and she was very proud of her extensive service and contributions to the teaching profession. She was named to Who's Who in American Education.

She is survived by her sons: Marvin Bustos of Cubero, Raul Bustos and wife Elizabeth of Las Vegas, Leon Bustos and wife Sarah of Las Vegas, Joseph Bustos and wife Lorraine of Mesa, Ariz.; grandchildren: Veronica Rivera and husband Gilbert, Mark Bustos and Cruzita Gonzales, Leah Ortiz, Janet Ulibarri and husband Jaime, L.B. Bustos, all from Las Vegas, and Marvin Bustos Jr., from Cubero. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren: Amaya, Isaiah, Jeslyn, Hailey, and George.

She is survived by her siblings: Ray Garcia of Albuquerque, Jimmy Garcia and wife Isabel of Santa Fe, Joe D. Garcia and wife Vera, Jerry Garcia and wife Frances, and Marie Toivanen, all of Grants, and sister-in-law Elia McComie of Washington, D.C. She had numerous nieces and nephews. Her very special friends were Leland Abreu, Nina Abreu, Ramon Abreu and Mark Grijalva.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother: Jose F. Garcia; sister-in-law: Francis Garcia and niece Donna Garcia.

Jeremiah Lozano

Services for Jeremiah Cory Lozano, 17 months, of Grants, were held on Dec. 22, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Immanuel Baptist Church in Milan. Pastor Garlad Moore officiated.

Jeremiah was born on July 1, 2007, in Grants and passed away on Dec. 17, 2008, in Albuquerque.

He is survived by his mother: Irene Lozano of Grants; father: Raymond Lozano of Grants; grandmother: Elaine Lozano of Grants; uncles: Ramon Lozano of Grants, New Mexico, Ruben Lozano of Albuquerque; aunts: Stephanie Lozano of Grants and Michelle Lozano of Grants; great grandmothers: Stephanie Lozano of Baldwin Park, Calif. And Bella Castanon of Alta Loma, Calif.; great grandfather: Ramon Lozano of Baldwin Park, Calif.; great aunts: Diana Lozano of Baldwin Park, Calif., Stephanie Gonzales of Baldwin Park, Calif., Patricia Loya of Alta Loma, Calif., Eliza Castanon of Alta Loma, Calif. and Donna Hernandez of Alta Loma, Calif.; great uncle: Domenic Castanon of Las Vegas, Nev.; the Blancrate and Pulido families, Gonzales family and the family members in Detroit and all the Lozano family.

He was preceded in death by his great grandfather: Domenic Castanon.

Pallbearers were: Brian Gabaldon, Rey Gomez, Chino Molina, Rico Pulido and Richard Gonzales.

Compassion Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Maryn Eversole

Services for Maryn Glenbah Eversole 25, of Bluewater, will be held on Nov, 5, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Rehoboth Christian Reformed Church in Rehoboth. Burial will follow at the Rehoboth Mission Cemetery, Rehoboth. Pastor Layloni Drake will officiate.

Maryn was born on Nov. 23, 1982, for the Bit'ahnii Folded Arms People in Gallup and passed away Nov. 1, 2008 in rural Cibola County.

She is survived by her parents: Mark Eversole and Pauline Platero Eversole of Bluewater; brothers: Paul Eversole and Jared Eversole of Bluewater; grandparents: Dorothy Eversole of Bluewater, Sam and Bessie Platero of Borrego Pass andmany uncles, aunts and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her grandfather: Paul Eversole.

Maryn attended schools in Gallup and graduated from Rehoboth High School in 2001. She then graduated from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. At the time of her death she was employed with the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque.

Pallbearers will be: Mark Eversole, Paul Eversole, Lee Eversole, Johnny Notah, Thomas Platero, Leo Platero, Mario Platero and Gregory Nourse.

Compassion Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Robert Molina

Funeral Mass for Robert Molina, 75, of Grants, was held on July 9, 2009, at 10 a.m. at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church. The Very Rev. Alberto Avella was the Celebrant. Burial followed at the Grants Memorial Park. A Rosary was recited on July 8, 2009, at 7 p.m. at the church.

Molina was born on Dec. 25, 1933, in the Moquino area and passed away on July 6, 2009, in Grants.

He is survived by his loving wife: Patsy Montano Molina of Grants; children: Perline Caro of Albuquerque, Leroy Baca of Belen, Frankie Molina of Phoenix, Ariz., Michael Molina of Grants, Carrozolo "Lolo" Molina of Albuquerque, Norman Molina of Grants, Prescilla Carrasco of Grants and Danny Molina of Phoenix, Ariz.; sisters: Agnes Molina of Grants, Sally Chavez of Grants, Alice Montano of Grants, Fina Montano of Los Lunas; brother: Elias Molina of Grants; 21 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Caraciolo Molina and Julia Davis Molina; sisters: Louisa Gurule, Onofre Gallegos and Ernestina Molina and brother: Fernando Molina.

Pallbearers were: Benny Castillo, Margarito Sandoval, Eloy Jaramillo, Eric Molina, Michael Molina, Jr., Anthony Castillo, Nicolas Carrasco and Creston Molina.

Honorary Pallbearers will be: all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Compassion Mortuary of Grants was in charge of arrangements.

Alan Yaryan

Memorial services for Alan Ross Yaryan, 51, will be held at a later date.

He was born in San Diego, Calif., and passed away on July 7, 2009, at his home in Bluewater, where he resided for 17 years.

He is survived by his parents: Delmar and June Yaryan; children: Tiffany Koppe, Savannah Yaryan and Tyler Yaryan; brother: Tim Yaryan and sister: Renee Moxley.

Burial will take place in El Cajon, Calif.

Frank Johnson

Traditional funeral services for Frank F. Johnson, 88, will be at the family home in Paraje, Pueblo of Laguna.

He was born in Paguate on April 28, 1921, and passed away on July 17, 2009, in Paraje.

Johnson is survived by his wife of 65 years, Charlotte Johnson; children: Gilbert Johnson, Leroy Johnson, Verland “Pino” Johnson and Michelle Johnson-Bradley, all of Paraje; 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Joe Johnson and Marcelina Gaco-Johnson and daughter: Laura Marie Johnson.

A devoted husband, father and grandfather, he was an honorably discharged veteran of World War II, when he served from 1941-45. Johnson also completed 32 years of service with the Bureau of Indian Affairs as a heavy equipment operator. He also participated in Senior Olympics with his wife.

Steven Short

Services for Steven Paul Short, 59, of Bluewater Lake, will be held on July 24, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Compassion Mortuary.

Steven, beloved husband of Moni Short, passed away July 19, 2009, at their home at Bluewater Lake. He was born on Aug. 13, 1949, in Ohio. He was a Vietnam veteran and a proud U.S. Marine who served two tours.

He is survived by his wife of 26 years: Moni Short of Bluewater; sisters: Janet Grant and husband John of Albuquerque, Sue Crites and husband James of Albuquerque and Chrystal Short of Bluewater; brothers: Danny Short of Bluewater and David Short and wife Keiko of Albuquerque; numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Steve was an artist, a kind and generous friend and a loving husband. He will be remembered for his wit, his charm and amazing talent.

He was preceded in death by his parents: William "Bud" Short and Mary Helen Short.

Compassion Mortuary of Grants is in charge with arrangements.

Aubry Pierce

Memorial services for Aubry R. Pierce, will be held on July 25, 2009, at Hew Hope Outreach in Milan. The Rev. Clyde Clark will officiate.

Pierce was a former resident of San Rafael. She passed away on July 11, 2209, in Oregon.

Melisa Lewis

Services for Melisa Jane Lewis, 50, of San Fidel, were held on July 20, 2009, at 2 p.m. at the Immanuel Baptist Church in Milan. Pastor Garland Moore officiated. Burial took place on July 22, 2009, in the Cario Church Cemetery in Cario, Tenn.

Melisa was born on June 14, 1959, in Crocket Mills, Tenn., and passed away on July 16, 2009, in San Fidel.

She is survived by her husband: Mike Lewis of San Fidel; son: Shawn Lewis of San Fidel; sisters: Elaine Batlis of Naples, Fla., Glynda Flower of Alamo, Tenn.; brothers: Gerald Ward of Alamo, Tenn., Kenneth Ward of Yuma, Tenn., Donald Ward of Alamo, Tenn., Paul Ward of Alamo Tenn., Farrow Ward of Trento, Tenn., Milton Ward of Friendship, Tenn., and Stephen Ward of Alamo, Tenn.

She was preceded in death by her parents: James Hollis Ward and Lena Belle Taylor Ward.

Compassion Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Patricia Cheromiah

A rosary was recited for Patricia L. Cheromiah, 48, on July 24, 2009, at 7 p.m. at the family home in Paguate. Interment took place at Mount of Peace Cemetery in McCartys.

Patricia is survived by her loving husband: Arnold Cheromiah; children: Karen Tenorio and husband Isaac, George Pradt, Robyn Pradt, and Brandon Cheromiah; grandchildren: Labraida and Jordyn Tenorio, Keith Pradt and Alfonso “Juan Doe” Talavera-Pradt; loving mother: Mae Routzen and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father: James Routzen. Patricia will be greatly missed by all.

The beloved wife, mother, grandmother and daughter enjoyed baking, riding with her husband on his Harley and going on bike runs with him, riding her scooter, going to her son's baseball games, and especially spending time with her children and grandchildren.

God knew you were failing, that the hills were hard to climb, so He gently closed your eye lids and whispered, “Peace be Thine.” In tears we watched you leaving and watched you being carried away. Our hearts were near to breaking, you fought so hard to stay. It broke our hearts to see you go but you did not go alone for part of us went with you as you left to rest in your new eternal home.

David Garcia

Rosary and Funeral Mass for David "Prim" Garcia, 79, of Grants, will be held on Aug. 3, 2009, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church. Burial will follow at the Grants Memorial Park.

Garcia was born on March 15, 1930, in McGaffey and passed away on July 24, 2009, in Grants.

He is survived by his sisters: Vera Medina of Gallup, Fabiana Garcia of Gallup and Lorraine Veloz of Milan.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Livrado Torrez and Mariz Garcia Veloz.

Pallbearers will be: Pat Lujan, Xavier Medina, Edward Veloz, Ray Lopez, Sidro Medina and Cardino "Gomer" Chavez.

Compassion Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
