Jack Mastenbrook
Died on September 2, 2007
Jack Mastenbrook, 58, of Albuquerque passed away unexpectedly on September 02, 2007. He was currently serving as a First Sergeant in Operation Jumpstart on the New Mexico border; he served over 25 years of service in the Army and Army National Guard. He was a veteran of Vietnam and Afghanistan. In the 1980's he served as part of a team based out of Kirtland Air Force Base nicknamed "The Old Crows". He was an Assistant District Attorney in Alamogordo and Albuquerque. He is preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Grace Mastenbrook and two brothers. He is survived by his wife, Ann Mastenbrook and son, Brent Mastenbrook and wife, Denise and grandson, Christopher Mastenbrook.
Memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 08, 2007 at 3 PM at the New Mexico Veterans Memorial, 1100 Louisiana Blvd. Albuquerque, NM. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in his memory to the fund for returning soldiers, VIA, The American Legion Post #49, In Memory of Jack Mastenbrook.

John Douglas Powell
Died on September 6, 2007
John Douglas Powell, 64, of Taos, NM, passed away September 6, 2007, after a valiant struggle against Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (Lou Gehrig's Disease) complicated by Lyme disease.
Born in Abilene, Texas, he graduated from Abilene High School in 1961. He graduated from Texas Tech University in 1964 with a BS degree in Business and Distribution Management.
He served in the US Navy in DaNang, Viet Nam, where he was admiral's aide and flag lieutenant. He achieved the rank of 1st Lieutenant.
In 2000, after 27 years with Xerox Corporation, he and his wife, Olivia, moved to Taos, NM, where they founded Aspen Business Systems, Inc., a Xerox sales agency serving seven counties in Northern New Mexico.
He was a member of Good News Christian Fellowship and Taos Milagro Rotary Club.
He enjoyed fishing, hiking and woodworking.
He was preceded in death by his father, Roscoe Powell. He is survived by his wife, Olivia Pinion Powell of Taos, his mother Rebecca Powell of Abilene, Texas, a sister, Patty Williams and her husband Joe, also of Abilene, two nieces, 5 great nieces and one great nephew. He is also survived by his cousin and friend Paul Ungerer and his wife Cheryl of Denver.
Interment was held on Friday September 14, 2007 at the Santa Fe National cemetery. Memorial Services was held September 15, 2007 at the Rio Bravo picnic area in Pilar.

Don Jaramillo
Died on October 14, 2007
Don Jaramillo, 31, of Arroyo Hondo passed away on October 14, 2007. He worked as a Juvenile Detention Officer for Taos County. He was a 1994 graduate of Taos High School. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Jose Dolores & Macedonia Vigil and Nazario & Fininia Jaramillo. He is survived by his daughter, Christina Rose, parents, Paul & Juana Jaramillo, brothers, Paul E. Jaramillo (Stephanie) and John Jaramillo (Donna), nieces and nephews, Herminda, Rosalinda and Gilberto Jaramillo, Martin and Martika Jaramillo, great nephew, Michael Gregory and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Rosary was recited on Tuesday, October 16, 2007 at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Arroyo Hondo. Funeral mass was held on Wednesday, October 17, 2007 at Our Lady of Sorrows Church interment followed at Arroyo Hondo Community cemetery.

Maria Delia Miera
Died on October 25, 2007
Maria Delia Miera, 87, of Ranchitos, passed away on October 25, 2007. She is preceded in death by her children; Irma Josephine Miera, Gloria Edwina Miera, Carlos Miera and her parents Narciso and Juanita Montoya and father and mother in-law Eliseo and Lupita Miera, She is survived by her husband of 62 ½ years, Felix Miera, children, Lillian Miera, Felix Miera Jr. (Lana), Ernest Miera (Rose), Christine Miera, Phillip Miera, granddaughters she raised, Rafaileta and Gina Miera, 11grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and many other relatives.
Funeral mass will be held on, Monday, October 29, 2007, at 10 AM at Our Lady Of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Interment will be held at 2:30 at the Santa Fe National cemetery. Arrangements by River Family Funeral Home and Crematory.

Gilbert Valdez
Died on October 22, 2007
Gilbert Valdez, 75, of Vadito, NM passed away on October 22, 2007. He was a Korean War veteran and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951-1954. After his discharge he was a translator for migrant workers in California. Gilbert was a lifetime bachelor and moved back to N.M. in 1985. Recently he was a caretaker for his older brothers, Ismael and Mike Valdez. He is preceded in death by his parents, Benito and Maria Valdez, brothers and sisters, Corina V. Duran, Ismael Valdez, Cleofas Valdez, Carlota Valdez, Benito Valdez, II, Mike Valdez, Teodoro Valdez Teresa Garduno Knisely. He is survived by his brothers and sisters Minnie Valdez, Estella Barreras (Mike), Juan Valentin Valdez (Lois) all of Lancanster, CA., Octaviano Valdez(Elvia) Penasco, many, nephews and nieces and special nephew, Derwin Valdez who assisted him.
Rosary was recited on Wednesday, October 24, 2007 at San Antonio de Padua Catholic Church in Penasco, Funeral Mass was held on October 25, 2007 at San Antonio de Padua Church. Interment will follow at the Santa Fe National cemetery.

Albert "Al" Van Nevel
Died on October 23, 2007
Albert "Al" Van Nevel, 93, of Taos passed away on October 23, 2007. He is survived by his wife, Lottie Van Nevel and children; Ronald Van Nevel (Joyce) of Taos, Linda Ellis (Morris) of Chicago and grandson, Brian Van Nevel of Taos.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Maria West
Died on October 17, 2007
Maria "Raffie" West, 67, of Taos passed away on October 17, 2007, after a long battle with cancer. She was born on April 13, 1940 in Taos. She was a lifelong resident of El Prado and a graduate of Taos High School. She was a wonderful wife and mother. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fidel and Margarita Garcia, brother, Don Garcia and wife, Fidelina, mother and father-in law Clell and Ula West, brother-in-laws, Juan B. Martinez, Walter Lindenfelser and Lawrence West. She is survived by her husband Gilbert West of El Prado, son Alan West and daughter Alicia West of Albuquerque, NM , brothers Ubaldo Garcia and wife Grace of Pueblo, Co., Gilbert Garcia and wife Bertha of Albuquerque, NM., Luis Garcia and wife Susana of Taos and Fidel Garcia Jr. of El Prado. She is also survived by her sisters, Genoveva Martinez and Gloria Lindenfelser of El Prado, brother and sister-in-law Deon and LaVera Holt of Paonia, CO, sister-in-law, Helen West of Hotchkiss, Co., many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A Memorial Mass was celebrated on Monday, October 22, 2007, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Taos. Interment will be held on Tuesday, October 23, 2007 at 11:30AM at the Santa Fe National cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society, 10501 Montgomery Blvd, NE Suite 300, Albuquerque, NM,87111

Roger Cortez
Roger Cortez, 55, formally of Taos, passed away unexpectedly on November 8, 2007 in Tucson, AZ. He is preceded in death by his parents; Emilio and Senaida Cortez, brother, Arturo Cortez and long lifetime partner Marylee Olsen. He is survived by his sisters and brothers, Isabel (Gabriel) Casias, Patricio Cortez and Sylvia (Frank) Fernandez and numerous nieces and nephews.
Rosary will be held on Sunday, November 25, 2007, at 2PM at Rivera Funeral Home chapel

Lawrence DeLage
November 15, 2007
Larry DeLage, 48, a resident of Taos for the last 20 years passed away on November 15, 2007. He was a long time Chef at the Taos Inn and Olgelvies and was a wood and stone carver. He was active in the gay community in Taos. He is survived by his mother, Carol DeLage of Denver, sisters, Paula Delage, Jackie Delage (Curt Collier), Jill DeLage (Mark Yancey) , brother, John DeLage all of Denver, CO. and numerous nieces and nephews.

Herman Garcia
November 10, 2007
Herman Garcia, 52, of Taos, passed away on November 10, 2007. He is preceded in death by his father, Alfred Garcia and brother, Rolondo Garcia. He is survived by his daughter Savanah Garcia, mother, Josefa Garcia, grandson, Brayden James Conrad, brothers and sisters, Johnny Garcia (Hope), Irene Garcia (Tomas), Victoria Parrett (Bruce) all of Taos, Alex Garcia (Jeanette) of Las Vegas, NV, Marcella Garcia (Richard), Cecilia Trujillo and Michael Garcia all of Taos, many numerous nieces, nephews and many other relatives.
Rosary was recited on November 14, 2007, at Our Lady Of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Funeral was be held on November 15, 2007 at 10AM at Our Lady Of Guadalupe Church interment followed at Jesus Nazareno cemetery in Ranchos De Taos.

Eloy Gutierrez
Died on November 21, 2007
Eloy Gutierrez, 75, of Taos passed away on November 21, 2007. He is preceded in death by his wife, Rosamund Gutierrez, parents, Eduardo and Teresina Gutierrez, brothers and sisters, Florida, Cordelia, Adolfo and Edward Jr. He is survived by his children, Lora Lee Archuleta (Pat) and Eloy Paul Gutierrez, grandchildren, Amanda Archuleta (Carlos Jeantete), Patrick Eloy and Jordan Archuleta, great grandson, Devon Jeantete. He is also survived by sisters and brother, Candida Trujillo (Faustin), Antonia Romero, Ida Ortega, Jesus Gutierrez (Dorothy), Rufina Gutierrez, Florence Sanchez (Elmer), Larry Gutierrez, very good friend, Lupe Vega, many other relatives and friends.
Rosary was recited on November 25, 2007 at Rivera Chapel. Funeral mass was held on Monday, November 26, 2007 at San Francisco de Asis Catholic Church.

Tom Edward Kittredge
Died on November 21, 2007
Tom Edward Kittredge, 87 of Taos passed away on November 21, 2007. He was formally employed by the N.M. Highway Department and the Town of Taos. He is preceded in death by his wife, Esperanza Kittredge. He is survived by his children, Rose Ortega (Lawrence) of Questa, Tommy Edward Kittredge (Patsy) and Ann Lucia Trujillo along with 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Rosary was recited November 24, 2007 at Rivera chapel. Funeral services are pending.

Andreas Korn
Died on November 20, 2007
Andreas Franz Korn, 88, of Taos passed away on November 20, 2007. He owned a successful toy distributorship in Dallas, TX. He was a Veteran of the Army Air Corps during WWII. He is preceded in death by his parents; Anton F. Korn and Marie Kroger Korn. He is survived by his daughters, Ann "Betsy" Korn of Houston, TX, Mignon Woodfield of England, sister, Marie Hannock and numerous nieces and nephews.
Cremation services were handled by Rivera Family Mortuaries and Crematory.
