Garrett Michael Kyle

A celebration of life took place Saturday for Garrett Michael Kyle, who died Oct. 21, 2006, in Portland, Ore.

Garrett was born March 25, 1987, in Portland and lived in South Lake Tahoe from 1996 to 2002. He had a brilliant light and joyful spirit that radiated to all he met. Garrett's beautiful smile, sense of humor, generous loving heart and adventurous spirit graced all who knew him. He had a strong love for nature, animals and the outdoors, and he loved to experience the beauty of the world by sleeping under the stars. He also loved the joy of music and most of all he loved people. He strongly believed that the cure for all human strife is love, and he spread love daily to friends and strangers. He never passed up a person in need without offering a helping hand, and through his example, encouraging others to do the same.

Garrett was aggressively pursuing his vision to develop a youth center in the Wilsonville area modeled after a similar center he frequented in downtown Portland. His plan was for the center to be a safe, drug- and alcohol-free haven where young people could gather 24 hours a day and engage in a variety of life enriching activities, including Internet access, pool, foosball, darts, healthy food and beverages and uplifting fellowship.

A nonprofit foundation has been formed in Garrett's name to fulfill his dream. His family requests that in lieu of flowers or other remembrances, contributions be made to the Garrett Kyle Foundation, P.O. Box 3085, Clackamas, OR 97015.
