Stanley G. Bennett

BRADENTON, Fla. — Stanley G. Bennett, 74, "passport stamped for last time" of Bradenton, Fla., died Jan. 28, 2005.

Born Aug. 31, 1930, in Sidney, he moved to Bradenton in 1971 from Otego.

He was a retired master electrician. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War and served on the USS Pandemus and USS Gwynn.

He was a Methodist and enjoyed traveling, golf, playing cards and football.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Janet; daughter, Holly B. and her husband, Gary Combee, of Parrish, Fla.; son, Ried and his wife, Rhonda, of Bradenton; and four grandchildren.

No services are scheduled.

Minnie Bagnardi

HENDERSON, Nev. — Minnie Bagnardi, 98, formerly of Oneonta and most recently of Henderson, Nev., died Jan. 27, 2005, at the Mira Loma Prestige Assisted Living Home, Henderson, Nev.

Minnie’s spiritual self received her final and greatest reward, peacefully returning to the Lord on Thursday morning, Jan. 27.

Minnie was born Domenica DeFiore on March 18, 1906, in East Meredith. The oldest of three sisters, Minnie lived a long, healthy and productive life, dedicating herself to her family, community and church.

As a homemaker, Minnie volunteered 30 years at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta and the American Legion Auxiliary. She served St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, from decorating the altar to raising money with bingo nights.

Minnie sacrificed much throughout her life for the loves of her family and home. Minnie spent the last year of her life away from her beloved home and "City of The Hills," and the last eight months under supervised and loving care at Mira Loma Prestige Living in Henderson, Nev. Minnie’s kind, positive, encouraging and feisty attitude will be sorely missed by us all.

Minnie is survived by her daughter, Natalie, and son-in-law, Ralph Schneider, as well as her daughter-in-law, Dorothy; her grandchildren, Jill Taylor, Holly Smith, Robert and James; six great-grandchildren; her sister, Margaret Mathews; her nieces, Angelina Lombardo and Johanna Welgie; and nephews, Albert Bagnardi and Francis Angellotti.

Her husband of 64 years, Angelo; her sons, Francis and Joseph; and her sisters, Antoinette Angellotti and Josephine Bagnardi, predeceased her.

There will be no public calling hours.

A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005, in St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Oneonta, with the Rev. Steven Moore, associate pastor, officiating. A gathering of family and friends will follow in St. Mary’s Parish Center after the funeral service.

Minnie will be buried in the spring next to her husband, Angelo, in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.

Arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home of Oneonta.

Aleen Sommer All

ONEONTA — Aleen Sommer All, 81, of Oneonta and formerly of Otego passed away Sunday, Jan. 30, 2005, at the A.O. Fox Nursing Home, Oneonta.

She was born Jan. 12, 1924, in Otego, the daughter of Franklin D. and Mabel (Briscoe) Widger.

Aleen married Robert Sommer on June 27, 1942. Mr. Sommer predeceased her Oct. 19, 1973. On Oct. 27, 1979, Aleen married Robert All in Wells Bridge.

She was a seamstress at Richard’s Dress Factory in Oneonta and later lived and worked with her husband on their dairy farm.

She was a longtime member of the Rebekah’s in Otego as well as the Otego Grange.

Aleen is survived by her husband, Robert All of South Carolina; five children and their spouses, Jean and Dick Hamilton of Otego, Mike and Betty Sommer of Maryland, Judy and Hank Moyer of Tennessee, Dollie and Ron Baldwin of South Carolina and Sherman and Linda All of Oneonta; nine grandchildren, Eric Hamilton and Jaime Sweeney of Massachusetts, Adam and Tanya Hamilton of Schenevus, Becca and Mark Moskowitz of Massachusetts, David Pratt of Tennessee, Kristen Sommer of Maryland, Judy and Rick Zeidner of Eaton, Martha and Paul Mouser of Maryland, David and Katie Braun of Maryland and Michael All of West Virginia; many loving great-grandchildren; and one sister and her husband, Doris and Leon Hume of Oneonta.

She was predeceased by one grandson, David Sommer; and one brother, Leland Widger.

A graveside service will be held in the spring in the Bundy Cemetery, Otego.

Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2005, in the Bookhout Funeral Home, 34 River St., Otego.

Memorial contributions in Aleen’s name may be made to National Parkinson Foundation Inc., care of Mary Ann Sprinkle, Director of Development, 1501 NW 9th Ave., Bob Hope Road, Miami, FL 33136-1494.

Paul H. Rogers

WALTON — Paul H. Rogers of Walton, a lifelong resident, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2005, at Delaware Valley Hospital in Walton. He was 90 years old.

Mr. Rogers was born Nov. 17, 1914, in Walton to Herbert J. and Mary Lyon Rogers.

He graduated from Walton Central School and earned an engineering degree from Tri State College.

In 1940, he married Edna Buckland in Olyphant, Pa. She predeceased him Feb. 5, 1965.

He worked for Scintilla and Bendix in Sidney for 38 years. He was a member of the Walton Fire Department for 39 years and the Masonic Lodge 559 for 66 years. He was a licensed radio amateur for 74 years. Call sign W2TFL.

Paul is survived by his nieces, Barbara (Douglas) Condon of New Kingston, Patricia (Julian) Sherwood of Vega, Lodema (Ronald) McAdams of Walton and Dorothy Rogers of Macon, Ga.; great-nieces and -nephews, Sue (Ron) Huntress, Gary (Jackie) Brooks, both of Walton, Richard L. (Pam) Rogers of Wheaton, Ill., Susan (Gary) Mouldin of Macon Ga., and Kathleen (Kirk) Pratt of Kenesaw, Ga.; and several great-great-nieces and -nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2005, at Lyon Bros.-Way Inc., corner of North and Delaware streets, Walton.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Walton Emergency Squad or Plymouth Church in his name would be appreciated.

Debra L. Budine

WALTON — Debra L. Budine, 44, of Walton died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005, at Delaware Valley Hospital, Walton, with her family by her side.

She was born June 7, 1960, the daughter of Dorr and Isabelle (Gray) Church.

On July 25, 1991, she married Edward H. Budine in Huntington, Tenn.

She worked at Kraft Global Inc., Walton, as a pasteurizer operator for 10 years.

Deb was a very loving mother and wife who always put her family first. She was the one that would organize the family gatherings. She always looked forward to Christmas because it was her favorite holiday. She enjoyed collecting glass dolls, bears and NASCAR memorabilia. She was a dog lover, especially of her two dogs, Buffy and Bouncer.

Deb will be remembered for her sense of humor.

She is survived by her husband, Edward H. Budine; two sons, James Rice and his companion, Amelia Brundege, and Christopher Rice and his companion, Megan Moffett; two stepchildren, Jaclyn Budine and Jason Budine; one stepgranddaughter, Sierra Budine; five brothers, Edwin Church, Douglas Church, Robert Church, Kenneth Church and Rodney Church; three sisters, Joyce Griffin, Dianne Brush and Kaye Miller; as well as several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

Deb was predeceased by her parents, Dorr and Isabelle Church; one brother, Rick Church; and two sisters, Beverly VanHorn and Margaret Church.

Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005, at Lyon Bros.-Way Inc. Funeral Home, 102 Delaware St., Walton. There will be no funeral services.

Memorial contributions may be made to Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, NY 13820 or to the Walton Emergency Squad, 61 West St., Walton, NY 13856 in loving memory of Debra L. Budine.

Mary Emhof

SHERBURNE — Mary Emhof, 91, of Sherburne passed away Jan. 31, 2005, in Hamilton.

She was born Aug. 2, 1913, in Center Lisle, the daughter of Patrick and Hattie (Howland) McNamara.

She was married to Jacob C. Emhof on Sept. 3, 1933. He predeceased her April 23, 2004.

She spent her childhood in Center Lisle and attended local schools in Center Lisle.

Mary is survived by one daughter, Wylma B. Smith, Bainbridge; one son, Jacob P. Emhof, Plymouth; grandchildren, Stephen Smith Jr., Sidney, Marsha (Smith) Hayes, Bainbridge, Robin (Emhof) Robbins, West Oneonta, Rhonda (Emhof) Folds, Justin, Texas, and Rodney Emhof, Sabattus, Maine; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by brothers James, Norman, Dan, John and Howard McNamara.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Columbus Community Church.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4, 2005, at the Dakin Funeral Home, New Berlin, with the Rev. Stephen Reese of the Columbus Community Church officiating. Calling hours will be from noon to 2 p.m. Friday, preceding the funeral service.

Cremation will follow with a graveside service at a later date at the convenience of the family.

Memorial donations may be made to the Columbus Community Church, Town of Columbus, NY.

Barbara M. Silvers

RICHFIELD SPRINGS — Barbara M. Silvers, 80, of Main Street entered into eternal rest Tuesday morning, Feb. 1, 2005, at Otsego Manor, Cooperstown.

She was born Jan. 1, 1925, in Poughkeepsie, the daughter of the late Maxmillion and Sarah Morning Selig. Barbara was raised in Poughkeepsie, where she went to Saint Mary’s School and graduated from Poughkeepsie High School.

She was united in marriage with Joseph W. Silvers in Poughkeepsie. It was a loving union of many years until his passing in 1964.

Mrs. Silvers worked as a waitress in various restaurants in Poughkeepsie and the surrounding area, retiring in 1991.

While living in Poughkeepsie, she was a member of the Wappinger Falls Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary.

She moved to Richfield Springs in 1991. A very religious person, she had a strong belief in God and led a devoted Catholic life. She was happiest when she was surrounded by her many friends and family, especially her six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

To all who knew her, they will remember her warm smile and caring nature. She will be truly missed.

Surviving are two daughters, Theresa Zydel of Schuyler Lake and Barbara Mosher and her husband, William, of Poughkeepsie; a daughter-in-law, Veronica Silvers of Springfield; two sisters, Mary Shea of Poughkeepsie and Ann Sianinka of Hyde Park; six beloved grandchildren, April Thomas and her husband, Christopher, of Statsburg, Bernadette Kirkey of Hyde Park, Tammy Johnston and her husband, Sydney, Brian Silvers and his wife, Georgette, all of Poughkeepsie, Ashley Zydel, Jacob Zydel, both of Schuyler Lake, Sharon Duncan, who Barbara considered a grandchild, along with her husband, Frank, and their children, Lauren and Matt Duncan, all of Hyde Park; eight adoring great-grandchildren, who knew her as "Nanny Noo," Amy, Trevor, Jenna and Becky Thomas, Emily and Nathaniel Johnson, Timmy and Melissa Kirkey; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husband, Joseph, she was preceded in death by her son, Joseph Silvers; a son-in-law, David Zydel; three brothers, Martin, Francis and Joseph Selig; and a sister, Maxine Bolsover.

The family will be present to receive relatives and friends in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James St., Richfield Springs, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. in Saint Joseph’s Church, Richfield Springs, with the Rev. Terrance Healy officiating.

Mrs. Silvers will be laid to rest in Schuyler Lake Cemetery later this spring.

Expressions of sympathy may be made with donations to the Catskill Area Hospice Inc., 542 Main St., Oneonta, NY 13820. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Leona B. Fancher

WORCESTER — Leona B. Fancher, 76, passed away after a sudden illness Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005, at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown.

She was born Sept. 14, 1928, in Dorloo, the daughter of Lester and Ella (Warner) Kniskern.

Leona is survived by her husband, Donald Fancher; three sons, Steven and his wife, Amy, of Worcester, Scott and his wife, Angela, of Schenevus, and Randall and his wife, Marie, of Worcester; one daughter, Donna and her husband, Randy Lewis, of Auburn, Ga.; two nieces, Kathy and Karen; a nephew, Mike; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Kniskern of Worcester; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; three brothers, James, Eugene and Harry; and one sister, Catherine Male.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005, at the E.J. Skinner Co. Funeral Chapel, Worcester, with the Rev. Dr. George I. Goodwin Jr., retired, officiating.

Burial at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Worcester will be held in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Red Cross, 620 East Main St., Endicott, NY 13760.

Arrangements by the E.J. Skinner Co., 155 Main St., Worcester.

Patricia B. Fancher

SIDNEY — Patricia Burns Fancher, 64, of Sidney passed away at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown on Jan. 24, 2005, after extended medical problems.

She was born June 8, 1940, daughter of the late Hobson and Myrthice (Norwood) Burns in Shamrock, Fla.

She graduated from Albany Med. — HVCC Physician Assistant Program, last working at SUNY Oneonta Health Center. She was well-known for her expertise and sense of humor in the medical community.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 20 years, Lawrence J. Fancher.

She is predeceased by her daughter, Annette V. Doty, who left a granddaughter, Rachel L. Doty.

She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Sherry V. Myers of Norlina, N.C.; and three grandchildren, Patricia, Krissy and Cory Myers Jr. She is also survived by her "haired child," Louie, a standard poodle. He brought her great joy in a difficult life.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 7, 2005, and a memorial service will follow at 8 p.m. at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney.

Russell E. Nygren

AFTON — Russell E. Nygren passed away Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, at the East Cooper Regional Hospital in Mt. Pleasant, S.C., with his daughter, Nancy, at his side.

He was born July 8, 1914, the son of John and Elma Nygren.

He was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Betty Ann Ervin Nygren; one son, John Nygren; and a baby daughter, Cheryl Nygren.

He is survived by one son, David Nygren, his wife, Linda, and grandchildren, Adam and Sarah, of Statesville, N.C.; daughter, Nancy Hogan and husband, Ted, of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; daughter-in-law, Suzanne Nygren of St. Augustine, Fla.; and his grandchildren, Allen Nygren of Bangor, Maine, Carissa Brown of Norwich and Dixie Donlon of Waterville.

Russ was a sergeant and World War II veteran, serving with the 633rd Army Air Force Band. He received the American Theater Campaign Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Ribbon and Service Stripe.

Russ was born and raised in New Rochelle and taught instrumental music at Afton Central School for 34 years.

Russ was a well-known, good-hearted and spirited musician, playing the clarinet and saxophone. He entertained thousands over the years with his Opus One Trio and Jazz Band Ball. Russ was a member of the local Binghamton Musicians Union.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 4, 2005, at the Afton Presbyterian Church, Afton.

Friends may call at the church from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 4, 2005, before the service to celebrate Russ’ life with the Rev. Robert M. Howard officiating.

Interment will be in the Glenwood Cemetery, Afton, in the spring.

Expressions of sympathy in Russ’ memory may be made to the Afton Presbyterian Church, 11 Academy St., Afton, NY 13730 or the Afton Free Library, 105 Main St., Afton, NY 13730.

Cora-Jean Watts

APALACHIN — Cora-Jean (Cj) Watts passed away Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, at her home.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 35 years, Edgar Watts, of Apalachin. She was a loving mother and mother-in-law to Allison Watts of Rochester and Michelle and Kyle Graham of Oneonta; and a special grandmother to Kirstin Cora Graham, her granddaughter and the joy of her life. She is also survived by one sister and brother-in-law, Harriette and Chuck Powell, Charlotte, N.C.; special friends, Florence and John Drotar, Endicott; and two nieces and three nephews.

She will be remembered by her friends and family for her enormous heart, generosity and class.

Mrs. Watts worked for IBM in Owego, retiring in 1990 with 30 years of service, and was a member of the IBM Quarter Century Club. She was also employed by the Press and Sun Bulletin.

A memorial service will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday at the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 E. Main St., Endicott, with the Rev. David C. Seaver, chaplain of Spiritual Care at Lourdes Hospital, officiating.

The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home from 5 p.m. until service time Thursday.

Joseph D. Minogue

ITHACA — Joseph D. Minogue, 82, a retired university administrator for Cornell University, Fordham University and Ithaca College, died peacefully Jan. 29, 2005, in Ithaca.

He was born in Long Island, son of the late Dennis and Margaret Byrne Minogue.

Mr. Minogue moved to Ithaca in 1941 to attend Cornell University, from which he received his bachelor’s degree (class of 1945). He served in the United States Army in France and Germany during World War II.

Fund-raising was his great love, work and main hobby. Outside of work, he raised money for several community causes, his church and the class of 1945. He was also a supporter of Cornell University’s research lab for diseases of dogs.

After retiring, he continued his volunteer work. He enjoyed golf, classical music and was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and Giants.

Until recently, he was an active member of the City Club, St. Catherine of Siena Church, his fraternity, Alpha Sigma Phi, and Cornell’s class of 1945.

Mr. Minogue was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy (Nader) Minogue, who died in 1960.

A loving and devoted father and grandfather, he is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Diane Minogue and John R. Borthwick of Washington, D.C.; his son, Dennis Minogue of California; granddaughters, Claire and Cleo Borthwick of Washington, D.C.; and his brother, John Minogue of Long Island.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Michael Mahler at noon Saturday at St. Catherine of Siena Church.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday at the Bangs Funeral Home.

Interment in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Emmons, will be delayed until spring.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the Ithacare Quality of Life Fund, 1 Bella Vista Drive, Ithaca, NY 14850, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
