Donald F. Lynd

ONEONTA — A graveside committal service for Donald F. Lynd Sr., who died Feb. 10, 2005, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 6, 2005, in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Earle H. Silvernail

SHARON SPRINGS — Earle H. Silvernail, 71, passed away Saturday, April 30, 2005, at Eden Park in Cobleskill.

He was born Dec. 24, 1933 in Harpersfield, the son of Fred and Hazel (Mae) Silvernail.

He was a graduate of Worcester Central School, class of 1951.

Earle was a United States Air Force veteran, serving in the Korean War from 1953 to 1957.

He was married to Fredericka Waid. She predeceased him Aug. 12, 2001.

Earle was employed for the New York State Department of Transportation as a truck driver and heavy-equipment operator.

He is survived by his mother, Hazel Silvernail of Cooperstown; a stepdaughter, Brenda King of Sharon Springs; a stepson, Barry Waid of Sharon Springs; stepgranddaughters, Cheri King of South Carolina and Alisha King of Fleischmanns; a stepgrandson, Robert Waid of Sharon Springs; and a sister, Caroline and Robert Basola of Worcester.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 6, 2005, at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Worcester with the Rev. Judith A. Thistle, chaplain of the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, officiating. Military honors will be presented by the Worcester American Legion Post 1584.

Contributions may be made to the Worcester Emergency Squad, PO Box 191, Worcester, NY 12197.

Arrangements are by the E.J. Skinner Co., 155 Main St., Worcester.

Gerald P. Welch

WALTON — Gerald P. "Ged" Welch, 78, of Walton passed away Monday, May 2, 2005, at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown, after a long illness.

Ged was born in Norwich on June 6, 1926, the son of the late Paul and Katherine McMahon Welch.

He married Dorothy M. Ingraham Poland on April 28, 1979, in Sherburne.

He served his country in the Army during World War II in the European Theatre.

He was employed as a meat cutter at Big M Walton for 22 years.

He was a former member and assistant fire chief of the Morris Fire Department and a former member and honorary member of the Walton Fire Department. He excelled at sports and was a great softball player with many records set that have not been broken. He loved watching NASCAR, the New York Yankees and Walton football. He was also very proud of his grandchildren. On most afternoons he could be found at TA’s, meeting his friends over a cup of coffee and good conversation.

He is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy; his children, Michael and Rahlene Welch, Fly Creek, Patricia and Timothy Winters, DeRuyter, Ted and Darlene Welch, New Berlin, Thomas Welch, Binghamton, Penny and Donald Simonds, Richfield Springs; stepchildren, David Poland and Charity Washington, Jeffrey Poland and Karen Harrington, all of McDonough, Debra and Harry McAvoy, Saratoga Springs, Kathy Poland and Jerry Backus, Sidney Center; grandchildren, Chad, Renee, Jennifer, Elizabeth, Jason, Kelly, Travis, Jaime, Eric, Darrin, Nathan, Daniel, Nicholas, Kaitland, Sarah, Laura, Carolyn, John, Heather and Brian; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Ryan, Norwich; several nieces and nephews; and his trusty little guy, Manley.

He was predeceased by his foster child, Ansel "Butch" Beckwith; daughter-in-law, Janet Welch; a brother, Richard Welch; and a nephew, Lawrence Welch.

Friends and family are invited to call from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 7, 2005, at the Clark, Winter & Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St., Walton, where a prayer service will be held at noon, with the Rev. John Rosson, pastor of St. Mary’s "Our Lady of the Lake" Catholic Church, officiating.

Burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Norwich, with full military honors.

Memorial contributions in Ged’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, Delaware County Humane Society, Delhi, or the Walton Fire Department. Envelopes for memorial contributions are available by contacting the funeral home.

Anne Aitken Koska

DELHI — Anne Aitken Koska, 78, of Delhi died Monday, May 2, 2005, at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown.

She was born Aug. 16, 1926, in Holtsville, the daughter of Charles R. and Doris R. (Young) Aitken.

Mrs. Koska graduated in June 1944 from Delaware Academy, Delhi. She then attended Russell Sage College in Troy, from which she graduated in 1948.

She worked as a social worker for the Delaware County Child Welfare Department from 1948 to 1951.

She married her husband, John A. Koska, on July 12, 1952. He survives in Delhi, as does a son, John Charles Koska of Schenectady.

After her marriage, she and her husband moved to Seneca Falls. There she taught kindergarten for several years. Later, they moved to Walton, where Anne taught fourth grade in Townsend Elementary School for 11 years. Upon her retirement, she and her husband moved to Delhi.

As per Mrs. Koska’s wishes, there will be no memorial services or calling hours.

Burial will take place in Woodland Cemetery, Delhi, at the convenience of the family.

Contributions in Anne’s name are asked to be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 30 East 33rd St., Suite 1100, New York, NY 10016.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home of Delhi.

Marina O. Pizano

COOPERSTOWN — Marina Oceania Pizano, formerly of Oneonta and Zephyrhills, Fla., died Saturday, April 30, 2005, at Otsego Manor in Phoenix Mills after a chronic illness. She was 81.

She was born in Santiago, Republica Dominica, on Jan. 10, 1924, to Eduardo Pizano, a merchant and later civil servant, and his wife, the former Maria Gonzalez, a homemaker. She is the third of eight children.

After graduating high school, she attended professional college and was certified as a medical technologist upon completion of a two-year program.

In 1946, she immigrated to Washington, D.C., where she was employed as a school secretary. She later relocated to Oneonta, where she was employed at Homer Folks Tuberculosis Hospital laboratory.

In 1947, she married builder Franklin W. Fieg, now deceased. They raised three children. For six years she served as bookkeeper for Frank Fieg Builder, succeeding Lothar Fieg Builder until the business was sold in 1963. She then was employed by Grand Union supermarkets and later Loblaw’s supermarkets. She returned to Homer Folks where she became a member of CSEA and the hospital millenary staff. Following the hospital’s closing, she was employed by Bresee’s Department Store in ladies’ alterations.

She was a member of various bowling leagues for a number of years at LaMonica’s Lanes in Oneonta.

She formerly had been a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oneonta and had served in the women’s auxiliaries of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

She later married Andrew Loveland and retired in Zephyrhills, Fla., where she continued her memorabilia and figurine collecting hobbies.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Greg Fieg and Dr. Teresa Mandracchia of South New Berlin and San Antonio, Texas; another son, Lt. Col. Edward Lothar Fieg, D.O., of Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio; and a daughter, Lisa Fieg of New York City. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Anna Dangca and Sarah Corkery, both of Oneonta, Emilie, Edward Lothar Jr. and Nancy Fieg, all of Grimes, Iowa, and Max Fieg of Bellevue, Neb.; and five great-grandchildren, Cade and Eva Dangca and Maren, Colette and Grace Corkery, all of Oneonta. She is also survived by six brothers and sisters, Carmen, Elba, Fernando and Jose Pizano, all of Santiago, Republica Dominica, and Mercedes Pizano of New York City, and Eduardo Pizano of Hollywood, Fla. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Her brother, Manuel Pizano of New York City, preceded her in death.

A private interment service is planned at the Pizano family burial plot in Santiago, Republica Dominica.

A Mass is being offered in her memory at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Oneonta on May 15, 2005.

In lieu of flowers, tax-deductible donations can be made in memoriam to Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, 542 Main St., Oneonta, NY 13820.

Bookhout Funeral Home in Oneonta is in charge of arrangements.

Norma Carr Collins

SIDNEY — Norma Alice Carr Collins was born March 30, 1912, in Butternuts, daughter of Nellie Converse Carr and William T. Carr.

She passed away May 3, 2005, at the Sidney Nursing Home Facility, Sidney.

Norma Collins attended high school in Gilbertsville. She lived in the Unadilla area most of her life. At one time, she planned to study to become a caregiver of children. Although she never attended a formal child-care program, Norma Collins was widely recognized for her great love of children and her warm care of many young people within her immediate family, the family of her sister Helen Daniels and the broader community.

The country home near Unadilla where she lived with her husband, George L. Collins, after their marriage in 1950 was an inviting place of happy memories for many people.

Norma Collins was an active member of the Unadilla Baptist Church for many years.

She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, George L. Collins, her sister, Helen Daniels, and her grandson, David Mott.

She is survived by her two daughters from her earlier marriage to Neil G. Leonard, Alicia Leonard Pagano, Unadilla, and Rita Leonard Mott and her husband, Clifford J. Mott, Masonville; as well as her four stepsons, Walter Collins and his wife, Beverly Collins, E. Lansing, Mich., Loren Collins and his wife, Dottie Collins, Riverview, Fla., Robert Collins and his wife, Jean-Ann, Errol, N.H., and Fred Collins, Richmond, Va. Her combined family includes 17 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. She will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.

The family wishes to thank the Masonville Library for their thoughtful selection of books that provided Norma with many pleasurable hours of reading.

Thanks to her neighbor, Nelson Peterson, for the concern and care he showed to her for many years as a good neighbor and friend.

Also, thanks to the staff of the Sidney Nursing Home Facility who gave her excellent care during the last months of her life.

A graveside service will be held at the Westville Cemetery in Milford at the convenience of the family.

Donations may be made in her name to the Unadilla Baptist Church.

Arrangements are by the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, Sidney.

Elizabeth Carr Bull

CHATHAM, Mass. — Elizabeth Carr Bull, 80, died at Liberty Commons Nursing Home in Chatham, Mass., April 27, 2004.

She was born and raised in Oberlin, Ohio. After graduating from Oberlin College in 1948, she spent several years working with foreign students at MIT in Cambridge, Mass., before moving to Long Island. There she worked at Brookhaven National Laboratory for a short time.

She and her husband resided in Brookhaven, where they raised their family. They moved to Chatham, Mass., in 1981.

She was an enthusiastic bridge player, participating in bridge games wherever she lived. She was also a devoted volunteer for many years at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital in Patchogue.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Marshall H. Bull of Chatham, Mass.; a daughter, Kathryn Conover of Chelmsford, Mass.; sons, Jonathan Bull and Nathaniel Bull, both of Chatham, Mass.; four grandchildren; and a sister, Frances Keefe of Bowling Green, Ohio.

A memorial graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 7, 2005, in the West Oneonta Cemetery, with the Rev. Kenneth Hunter, pastor of St. James’ Episcopal Church, Oneonta, officiating.

Local arrangements are with Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta.

Beverly C. Hamill

ONEONTA — Beverly C. Hamill, 81, of Oneonta passed away Monday, May 2, 2005, at her residence.

She was born Sept. 12, 1923, in Oneonta, the daughter of Seward and Flossie (Silliman) Nichols.

At an early age, Beverly was predeceased by her parents and per her mother’s wishes was raised by her aunt and foster mother, Madge Campbell, who also predeceased her. Beverly grew up in the Oneonta area.

She married Francis E. Hamill on Aug. 6, 1949, at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Oneonta.

Francis was in the United States Army, so she and her family traveled around and finally settled in the Washington, D.C., area, where she was a registered nurse at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, Md. In 1995, she retired and eventually moved back to the Oneonta area in 2004.

In Washington, D.C., Beverly was a member of the Civitan’s. She also was involved in helping out with the Special Olympics and was a Scout Den Mother. She loved spending time with her family. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Beverly is survived by her three children, Michael Hamill of Oneonta, Mary Clements of Rockville, Md., and Kevin Hamill of Oneonta; her grandson, Richard Clements of Rockville, Md.; her sister, Frances Peterson of Holden, Mass.; her two nieces, Debbie VanDuyne of Texas and Donna Neff of New Hampshire; as well as several cousins.

She was predeceased by her foster siblings and cousins, George Campbell Sr. and Beatrice Cole.

She is also survived by Beatrice’s son, Richard Cole of Maryland.

A service to celebrate the life of Beverly C. Hamill will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 7, 2005, at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Sue Cole, pastor of the Christ Episcopal Church of Walton, officiating.

Burial will follow in St. Bernard’s Cemetery, Waterville.

There will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either the American Cancer Society, 31 Adams Ave., Endicott, NY 13760 or to the American Heart Association, Heart Gifts Processing Center, P.O. Box 3049, Syracuse, NY 13220-3049 in loving memory of Beverly C. Hamill.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home of Oneonta.

Judy Martin Finch

BLOOMVILLE — Judy Mae Martin Finch, 56, born Jan. 19, 1949, in Delhi, the daughter of William Thomas Martin and Anna Mae Hitt Martin, passed away Sunday, May 1, 2005.

Judy was a true people lover, shown in her work and the unconditional love she showed every child she touched. Everyone she met was touched in some way by her gentle ways.

She was a lover of wildflowers and was a true wildflower herself.

Mrs. Finch was employed as a migrant tutor through the Migrant Tutorial Program with the State University College at Oneonta and a parent care provider with U.S. Care.

She is survived by her mother, Anna Martin; three daughters, Tracy, Suzanne and Rebekkah; a sister, Anna, and brother-in-law, Paul Slavinski; sister, Jane, and brother-in-law, Bob Griffin; brother-in-law, Roger Sackett; Roy Finch and a grandson, Thomas Briscoe, her pride and joy who she was a wonderful "Nah" to. She is also survived by loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m. Friday, May 6, 2005, at the Bloomville United Methodist Church, Bloomville, with the Rev. Richard Lenz officiating.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 5, 2005, at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart.

Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Bloomville.

Contributions in her memory may be made to Upstate Home for Children and Adults, 2705 State Highway 28, Oneonta, NY 13820.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart.

Ralph B. Alsip

PLANT CITY, Fla. — Funeral services for Ralph Benjamin Alsip, 97, of Plant City, Fla., who passed away Jan. 26, 2005, will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 7, 2005, at the Dakin Funeral Home, New Berlin, with the Rev. Charles Taylor, pastor of the St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, officiating. A calling hour will be held from 2 to 3 p.m.

Graveside service will follow in St. Andrew’s Cemetery, New Berlin.

Robert D. Rosa

ALSTEAD, N.H. — Robert Dennis Rosa, died suddenly at his home Thursday, April 28, 2005.

Robert is survived by his wife, Susan; his four sons, John Rosa, Robert Rosa, Todd Stratton and Doug and Amy Stratton; and his two granddaughters, Justice and Lily.

Robert will be greatly missed.

There will be a gathering at his home at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 7, 2005, to celebrate his life.

Mary Ellen Young

ONEONTA — Graveside services for Mary Ellen Young of Oneonta, who died Jan. 10, 2005, at A.O. Fox Nursing Home, Oneonta, will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, May 6, 2005, in the Glenwood Cemetery, Oneonta.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home of Oneonta.

Janice C. Evans

WEST ONEONTA — The graveside committal service for Janice C. Evans, 68, who passed away Jan. 22, 2005, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 7, 2005, in the Cook Cemetery in West Oneonta with the Rev. Steven Moore officiating.

Arrangements are by the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta.

Robert Leon Clark

ONEONTA — Robert L. Clark, 66, of Oneonta, formerly of Mount Upton, went to be with his heavenly Father on May 4, 2005.

He was born March 28, 1939, son of the late George and Hilda (Hartwell) Clark in Bainbridge.

Bob married Mary L. Miles on June 28, 1958, in Gilbertsville. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1959 and served his country until 1961.

They lived in Mount Upton and were members of the United Methodist Church of Mount Upton.

Bob was a member of the Mount Upton Fire Department from 1962 to 2004. Mr. Clark was employed by the New York State Department of Transportation in Oxford for 34 years.

He was an avid trout fisherman who loved his family, friends and his little dog, Max.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Clark, Oneonta; three sons and daughters-in-law, Robert J. and Mary P. Clark, Gary A. Clark and Laurie McDaniel, David C. Clark and Lorelei Coville; grandchildren, Gary Clark II, Misty, Chelsey, Adam, Devin, Cody, Audrielle Clark and Brianne Coville; brother, Larry Clark; and sister-in-law, Rae Ann Clark.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 7, 2005, at the United Methodist Church in Mount Upton. A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Mary Ann Linder officiating.

Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery in Mount Upton.

Memorial contributions may be made to Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, NY 13820 or the Mount Upton Emergency Squad.

Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney.
