Daniel G. Miller
HARPERSFIELD — Daniel G. Miller, 53, of Harpersfield died Dec. 30, 1997 at his home.

He was born May 24, 1944 in Margaretville, the son of Ivan Miller and Agnes Eden. He married Joan Dickman Nov. 11, 1967 at Margaretville.

Mr. Miller served in the Army from 1967-1969. He was the chief financial officer at Margaretville Memorial Hospital, after moving to Harpersfield from Carlisle, Ky. 2½ years ago.

He was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Lake Delaware, and graduated from Margaretville Central School, Albany Business College and Husson College in Bangor, Maine.

Mr. Miller enjoyed farming, especially raising beef. He was presented, by the governor of Kentucky, the Honorary Award for his work in Kentucky and was known as the Kentucky Colonel.

Survivors include his wife, Joan Miller of Harpersfield; two sons, Michael Miller of Lexington, Ky. and Donald Miller of Cobleskill; his father and stepmother, Ivan and Lois Miller of Margaretville; a brother, A. Steve Miller of Manlius; a sister, Yvonne Sheehan of Davenport; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother, Agnes Eden Miller.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, 1998 at the St. James Episcopal Church in Lake Delaware with the Rev. Frank S. Crenshaw officiating.

Burial will be in the Andes Cemetery at a later date.

Calling hours will be Friday, Jan. 2, 1998 from 7-9 p.m. at the Hynes Funeral Home in Margaretville.

Memorial contributions in his memory may be made to the Education Fund, 4 McCaulley, St. Peters Hospital, Albany, N.Y.

Arrangements are by Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.

Daniel Demopoulos
CENTRAL BRIDGE — Daniel Scott Demopoulos of Central Bridge died suddenly on Dec. 29, 1997.

He was born Nov. 21, 1979 at Ithaca.

He was a member of the senior class of Cobleskill-Richmondville Central School and a member of the International Club.

Survivors include his mother, Mary Bishop of Unadilla; his father and stepmother, Arthur and Marjorie Demopoulos of Central Bridge; two sisters, Michele and Rachel Demopoulos of Otego; a brother, Christopher Demopoulos of Otego; a stepbrother, Greg Van Dyke of Middleburgh; and uncle, George Stanley Bishop of Oneonta; a great-aunt, Clara Scavo of Schenectady; also a niece and two nephews.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, 1998 at the Robert A. Guffin Funeral Home, 1 Chapel St., Cobleskill. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home Friday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.

Interment will be in the Plains Cemetery, Oneonta, in the spring.

Memorial donations may by made to the Daniel S. Demopoulos Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Cobleskill-Richmondville Central School, will be appreciated.

Frank P. Moran
ELLENTON, Fla. — Mr. Frank P. Moran, 94, of Ellenton, Fla., died Monday, Dec. 29, 1997 at the Manatee Memorial Hospital in Bradenton, Fla.

He was the son of William and Jenny (Bordman) Moran.

Frank had been a mechanic in his working years and had moved to Ellenton, Fla. in 1968 from Westerville, Ohio. He was associated with the Fraternal Order of Police, New York State, United Methodist Church of Westerville, Ohio and the Ellenton United Methodist Church, Ellenton, Fla.

He is survived by one son, Michael F. Moran of Lewis Center, Ohio; a stepson, Charles Nelon of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and three grandchildren.

Funeral and committal services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, 1997 from the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta. The American Legion Post 259 of Oneonta will accord honors. Mr. Moran will be placed in the Bookhout Funeral Home private vault to await spring burial in the McGowan Cemetery, Maryland, in the spring of 1998.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Homes, Oneonta and Otego.

Patricia McLaughlin
WALNUT, Calif. — Patricia A. McLaughlin, 55, of Walnut, Calif., died Monday morning, Dec. 22, 1997 at her residence, after a long fight with cancer.

She was born July 21, 1942 in Delhi to Wilder and Virginia Johnson. She married John T. McLaughlin on Oct. 3, 1959 in Delhi.

She is survived by her husband John, of Walnut, Calif.; three daughters, Nora Geiss of Walnut, Calif, Teresa Tamondong of Alta Loma, Calif. and Sara of Walnut, Calif.; two sons, Brian and Christopher of Walnut, Calif.; six grandchildren, Adam, Eric, Tiffany and Carrie, all of Walnut, Calif. and Cory and Cheyenne of Alta Loma, Calif.; her mother, Virginia Johnson of Treadwell; a brother, James Johnson of Davenport; two sisters, Colleen Carmody of Treadwell and Sharon Oakley of Howard, Colo.

She was predeceased by her father, Wilder Johnson, on Nov. 21, 1997.

Funeral and burial services were on Dec. 26, 1997 in Walnut, Calif.

John Johnson

AFTON — John Johnson Sr., of Afton passed away Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004, at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.

He was born May 7, 1946, son of the late George and Sarah Booth Johnson, in Ossining.

Mr. Johnson was employed as a taxi driver for many years in Westchester County and for a few years in Sidney.

He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post No. 183 in Sidney and a past member of the Sidney Moose Lodge No. 277.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Johnson, Unadilla; his son, John and Marsha Johnson Jr., Otego; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sarah and Brian Applegate, Afton, and Georgia and Carl Peterson, Sidney; three stepchildren, Ronald and Jerri McMullen, Maryland, Donna and Tim DeCarr, Davenport, and Brenda and Jim Marino, Otego; girlfriend, Theresa Pecora Sr. of Afton and her children, Theresa Fitzgerald, Natasha Goldstein, Anthony Pecora and Desiree Pecora; brother, George Johnson, Cortland; sister and brother-in-law, Ethel and George Matranga, Florida; 11 grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles; and his mother-in-law, Marjorie Ogden.

He was predeceased by a stepson, Edward McMullen; and a sister, Florence Braun.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15, 2004, at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney. Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m.

Norman F. Hoyt

BOVINA CENTER — Norman F. Hoyt, 65, of Bovina Center passed away suddenly Tuesday morning, Oct. 12, 2004, in the Margaretville Hospital.

Norm was born in Walton, the son of the late Walter and Ethel Palmer Hoyt.

He married Janet M. McClenon on Feb. 20, 1959.

He was employed as an equipment operator for the town of Delhi, retiring last March, and was a farmer for many years. He also worked as a landscaper and bush hog operator. He loved to spend his free time hunting, fishing and camping.

He is survived by his wife, Janet M. Hoyt; two daughters, Lorraine and Brian Francisco of Delhi and Penny and Roger Hamilton of East Meredith; one son, Thomas and Norma Hoyt of Venice Center; four grandchildren, Miranda, Chelsey and Jordan Hoyt and Devin Hamilton; one sister, Sandra Moody of Delhi; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends and relatives may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 14, 2004, at Clark, Winter & Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St., Walton, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday. Burial will be Friday in Walton Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in Norm’s memory may be made to the Bovina Fire Department, Bovina Center, NY 13740. Envelopes for memorial contributions are available at the funeral home.

Francis L. Wilcox

SCHUYLER LAKE — Francis L. Wilcox, 72, of state Highway 28 passed away peacefully Monday, Oct. 11, 2004, in his home.

He was born May 26, 1932, in the town of Litchfield, a son of the late Gardener and Eva Mae Bowden Wilcox.

He was educated in Litchfield and had been a resident of Schuyler Lake since 1980, coming from Monticello.

On Jan. 26, 1963, he married Sarah Sparks in Hunter. He was employed by the Lakefront Hotel in Cooperstown as a maintenance man.

Surviving him are two sons, Delbert and his wife Kimberly of Otego, and Richard and his wife Lisa of Schuyler Lake; two daughters, Pauline Key and her husband James of Butler, N.C., and Eva Garbera and her husband Charles of Otego; a sister, Grace Zarnock of Utica; nine grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Harry; and a sister, Marianne.

Funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Friday in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James St., Richfield Springs, with the Rev. John Young officiating. Interment will follow in Schuyler Lake Cemetery.

The family will receive friends and relatives in the funeral home Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral.

James E. Haher

ONEONTA — James E. (Jim) Haher Jr., 86, of 303 Chestnut St., Oneonta, died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004, at his residence.

Mr. Haher was born July 14, 1918, in New York City, the son of James E. and Grace Haher Sr.

He spent his youth in Staten Island and moved to upstate New York in 1941. In 1951, while living in Walton, he married Alice Kung, who survives him.

Jim served his country in the United States Army from 1942 to 1945 and was honorably discharged as a staff sergeant.

He was a life member of the VFW and a member of the Post No. 259 of the American Legion.

For more than 30 years, Jim was an internal revenue agent and for eight years after his retirement practiced as a public accountant.

He is survived by his wife, Alice, and their four children, Edward of Oneonta, Donald of Schenectady, Barbara Riddell of Charlotte, N.C., and Shirley Sommer of Tacoma, Wash.; by his four grandchildren, Paul and John Sommer and Steven and Amanda Como; his sister, Grace Haher of Florida; and his two brothers, John of Virginia and Raymond of Florida; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Jim was predeceased by his brother, Donald.

Calling hours will be held Saturday, Oct. 16, 2004, in the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, from 10 a.m. until noon.

There will be no funeral services.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home of Oneonta.

William W. Hayes

WALTON — William W. Hayes, 80, of Walton passed away early Wednesday morning, Oct. 13, 2004, in the Delaware Valley Hospital, Walton, after a long illness.

Bill was born in Queens, the son of the late William and Julia Ann Ezrodt Hayes.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army.

He married Grace Tisesi on Aug. 15, 1970, in North Bergen, N.J. He lived in New Jersey most of his life and was self-employed as a typewriter repair technician. After retiring in 1984, he and his wife, Grace, moved to a farm, which they fell in love with and bought after seeing only once. Bill spent many hours on the land and in his barn.

He also loved to hunt and shoot and belonged to pistol clubs where he made many friends.

Bill is survived by his loving wife, Grace; two daughters, Julie and Bill Benken of Phoenix, Ariz., and Peggy and Gary Zazzi of Staten Island; four grandchildren, Jessica, Samantha, Erica and Jeffrey; two sisters, Dorothy Wells and Loraine Gould; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by his dog, Gretchen, and his cat, Kitty Cat.

Friends and family may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 17, 2004, at the Clark, Winter & Courtney Funeral Home, Walton.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. John the Baptist Church, Walton, with the Rev. Michael Flannery officiating. Burial will be in Walton Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in Bill’s memory may be made to St. John the Baptist Church, Walton, or Mountain Valley Hospice. Envelopes for memorial contributions are available by contacting the funeral home.

Gladys Y. Merena

ONEONTA — Gladys Y. Merena, 93, passed away Monday, Jan. 5, 2004, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.

She was born Aug. 12, 1910, in Oneonta, the daughter of John L. and Septa Young.

Mrs. Merena was a lifelong area resident and a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Oneonta.

She is survived by her son, Conrad Merena of Oneonta; two grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

There will be no calling hours, and inurnment will be at the St. James Episcopal Church at the convenience of the family.

Contributions may be made in loving memory of Mrs. Merena to the A.O. Fox Nursing Home, Activity Fund, One Norton Ave., Oneonta, NY 13820.

Arrangements by the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta.

Ronne V. Taylor

ACCORD — Ronne V. Taylor, 60, of Accord and formerly of Roxbury, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004, at the Benedictine Hospital in Kingston.

Ronne was born on Sept. 22, 1943, in Hermon, the son of Virgil and Bertie (Boclair) Taylor.

Ronne married June Whitney.

He was a United States Navy veteran and served on the USS Suribachi.

He lived in Accord for several years and had lived in Roxbury in his earlier years.

Ronne is survived by his wife, June Taylor, Accord; his mother and father, Virgil and Bertie Taylor, Roxbury; two sons, Rodney L. Taylor, Accord, and Ronne J. Taylor, Arkville; two daughters, Lisa J. and Tamara L., both of Accord; five brothers, Harold, Gary, Virgil, Randy and Ricky; two sisters, Sherry Stafford and Lori Needham; and six grandchildren.

Calling hours are 1 p.m. until the funeral service at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004, at the Miller Funeral Home in Roxbury, with the Rev. William Hawes officiating. Burial will be in Roxbury Cemetery, Roxbury.

Funeral arrangements are by the Miller Funeral Home of Roxbury.
