Neva Foss

December 3, 1996
Mrs. Neva S. Foss, 86, of South Hollywood Avenue, Gloversville, died Tuesday at home after being stricken.

Born in Providence, Mrs. Foss attended Galway schools and resided in Broadalbin most of her life before moving to Gloversville in 1973.

For 12 years, she worked for Broadalbin Knitting Mills and later for more than 15 years, she worked for Gloversville Knitting Mills before retiring.

Her husband, Floyd Foss, whom she married May 28, 1932, died in 1989.

Survivors include three brothers, Cecil Sherman of Providence, Howard Sherman of Galway and Alfred Sherman of Melbourne, Fla.; and four sisters, Mrs. Julia Sanford and Pearl Howe, both of Broadalbin, Josie Salak of Gloversville and Mrs. Winifred Jones of Meco.

There will be no calling hours or services. Burial will be in Broadalbin Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Arrangements are by the Hollenbeck Funeral Home.

Madeline Wilmot

December 3, 1996
Madeline May Wilmot, 85, of East Main Street, Fonda, died Tuesday at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam after a short illness.

Born Aug. 9, 1911 in Amsterdam, she was the daughter of Edward and Cora Nolan Brennen. She was educated in Amsterdam schools and was a homemaker.

Mrs. Wilmot was a member of the Fonda Reformed Church where she taught Sunday School. She was a member of the Women's Guild a junior choir instructor for 15 years. She was the first Woman Elder at the Church, and a founding member of the Glen Mohawk Seniors, where she was the chaplain and treasurer for several years.

She played piano for many years at the church and at many area nursing homes.

Her husband, William Milton Wilmot, whom she married Aug. 29, 1931, died Aug 2 1970. She was predeceased by a son, Robert E. Wilmot, in 1984.

Survivors include two sons, Ronald R. Wilmot of Fonda and Roger M. Wilmot of Fort Johnson. She is also survived by three daughters, Roberta Jane Cuozzo of Amsterdam, Kathleen Vrooman of Amityville, and Madeline M. Wiedman of Warrensburg; a sister, Anna Bishop of Cohoes; a half sister, Geraldine Cremen of Fort Johnson; 21 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren, one aunt and one cousin.

Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Friday at the Fonda Reformed Church Broadway, Fonda; with the Pastor Karen Patterson officiating.

Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main St., Fultonville.

Burial in Evergreen Cemetery in Fonda.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Fonda Reformed Church or to FAVAC.

Jean Mielcasz

December 4, 1996
Jean Mielcasz, 83, of 52 Van Derveer St., Amsterdam, died this morning at St. Mary's Hospital after being stricken at home.

Born Dec. 1, 1913 in Amsterdam, she was the daughter of Joseph and Bernice Stepien Halgas and was educated in local schools. She was a lifelong Amsterdam resident.

Mrs. Mielcasz was employed at one time as a setter with the former Bigelow Sanford Carpet Mills and later, she worked at the former Mohasco Industries in Amsterdam. Later, she worked as an assembler at the former Consolidated Industries, retiring in 1978. Upon retiring, she participated in the Green Thumb Program as an aide at the Clara S. Bacon Elementary School in Amsterdam.

Mrs. Mielcasz was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church and a member of its Ladies Rosary Society. She was also a member of the church choir. She was one of the Pierogi Ladies at St. John's Church.

Mrs. Mielcasz was a member of the Polonaise Society and a member of the Club 60 of St. Mary's Hospital.

She married Stanley Mielcasz on Dec. 6, 1944. He died on Dec. 25, 1965.

Survivors include two daughters, Phyllis Zumbolo of Amsterdam and Dolores Blonkowski of Ballston Spa; three sisters, Mary Zaklukiewicz, Monica Cichy and Eleanor Swierzowski of Amsterdam; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Riley Mortuary, 110 Division St., Amsterdam, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at The Church of St. John The Baptist, Vanderveer Street.

Interment will take place in St. John's Cemetery.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Church of St. John The Baptist or to the Cemetery Fund at the church.

Arrangements are by the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, Broadalbin.

Emily Cross

December 5, 1996
Mrs. Emily Hurlbut Cross, 82, of Saddlemire Hill Road, Sloansville, died Thursday at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown after a long illness.

Born in Arkport, Mrs. Cross was a 1935 graduate of the New York State Teachers College in Albany. Prior to her marriage, she taught in Johnstown.

She was a member of the Grosvenors Corners Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.

Mrs. Cross was also a member of the Schoharie County Sheepman's Association and the Alumni Association of New York State Teachers. She was one of the original petitioners for the start up of the Community Hospital of Schoharie County, now Bassett Hospital of Schoharie County.

She married Robert R. Cross Sr.on Aug. 22, 1936.

In addition to her husband, survivors include two daughters, Margaret S. Mattice of Seward and Dorothy C. Mueller of Sloansville; four sons, Robert R. Jr., Allan V., Richard H. and Gardiner W. Cross, all of Sloansville; and 12 grandchildren.

A memorial service will be conducted at a later date.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Grosvenors Corners Methodist Church.

Arrangements are by the Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home in Cobleskill.

John Oevering

December 6, 1996
John Oevering, 60, of Sullivan Road, Esperance, died suddenly Friday evening at Bassett Hospital of Schoharie County in Cobleskill after being stricken at home.

He was born Dec. 18, 1935, in the Netherlands, the son of Sake and Maaike Beintema Oevering. He was educated in the Netherlands, where he earned degrees in agriculture.

He came to this country in 1958, settling in Middlebury, Vt. He later moved to Sussex, N.J., and then to Middletown. Mr. Oevering and his family moved to their present farm in Esperance in 1970. He was operating his dairy farm at the time of his death.

He was a member of the Village Bible Church of Fonda. He also served for 18 months in the Royal Dutch Army while in the Netherlands.

Survivors include his wife, the former Gertrude Frieswijk, whom he married Jan. 2, 1958; two sons, James and William Oevering, both of Charles-ton; two daughters, Gracia Hamm of Hazlet, N.J., and Marion Ruther of Delanson; 12 grandchildren; and two brothers and two sisters who still live in the Netherlands.

Funeral services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Langan Funeral Home, 21 N. Main St., Central Bridge, with the Rev. Jack Peters of the Village Bible Church officiating.

Burial will follow in Charleston Cemetery, Charleston Four Corners.

Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Village Bible Church, West Main Street, Fonda 12068.

Mary Gee

December 6, 1996
Mary Beaton Gee, 79, formerly of Roberta Road, Schenectady, died Friday at St. Clare's Hospital after a long illness.

She was a lifelong Schenectady resident and worked as a clerk for Barney Co. and the Carl Co. until 1988.

She was a communicant of St. Gabriel's Roman Catholic Church.

Her husband, Fabian Gee, whom she married in 1941, died in 1974.

Survivors include a sister, Dorothy Krutz of Hagaman.

Funeral services are 10 a.m. Monday at the Baxter Funeral Home, 40 N. Brandywine Ave., Schenectady, followed at 10:30 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Gabriel's Roman Catholic Church.

Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery.

Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memphis, Tenn.

Evelyn Sandlin

December 6, 1996
Evelyn M. Burch Sandlin, 69, of Main Street, Rotterdam Junction, died Friday at home after a short illness.

She was born in Gloversville, the daughter of William and Anabele Burch, and was a graduate of Gloversville High School.

She married Edgar R. Sandlin Nov. 5, 1953. He died in 1991.

Together the couple owned and operated Lindsey Soft Water Co. in Schenectady until Mr. Sandlin's retirement in the 1970s.

She moved from Schenectady to Pattersonville, where she lived for more than 20 years before moving four years ago to Rotterdam Junction.

Survivors include two daughters, Michelle Sandlin-Clark of Rotterdam Junction and Evelyne Lee Dunn of Bonita Springs, Fla.; a son, John Russell Sandlin of Rotterdam Junction; a sister, Ella Lauritano Congdon of Gloversville; and four grandchildren.

A memorial service is scheduled at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Road., East Glenville. A calling hour will precede the service beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Interment will be private.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2330 Watt St., Schenectady 12304.
