Douglas W. Didget

Batavia - Mr. Douglas W. Didget, age 63, of Batavia, a former machine operator at Deluxe Tool and Dye in Batavia, died Tuesday, April 18, 2006, at Park Ridge Hospital.

Mr. Didget was born August 11, 1942 in Batavia, the son of the late Walter W. and Betty Ellis Didget.

He was an avid bowler for over 40 years and enjoyed spending time in his garden.

A veteran, he served with the U.S. Army for 15 years and earned the rank of Sergeant Class 8.

Survivors include his two children, Dennis W. (Kimberly S.) Didget of LeRoy and Darnelle Didget of California, three sisters, Sandra Didget of Tennessee, Anna (Salvatore) Russo of LeRoy and Adele (Robert) Landin of Basom; two granddaughters, several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and close and personal friends.

Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday at the family residence at 18 Erie Street in LeRoy. Memorials may be made to Mancuso Bowling Center, Attn: Youth Bowling, 214 East Main Street, Batavia, New York 14020.

Willis E. Cook

Williamsville - Willis E. Cook, age 93, of Williamsville, formerly of Clarence Center, a welder at Itek Corporation in Rochester prior to his retirement in 1978, died Monday, April 24, 2006, at Harris Hill Nursing Facility in Williamsville.

Mr. Cook was born January 12, 1913 in LeRoy, the son of the late Fred and Elizabeth Clark Cook.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Batavia and formerly worked for Massey-Ferguson in Batavia and Taylor Instruments in Rochester.

A veteran, he served with the US Army Air Corps in WWII.

His wife, Loretta M. Snyder Cook, died March 29, 2006.

Surviving are a son, Fred L. ( Sharon ) Cook of East Amherst; a daughter, Kathleen ( Gary ) Garcia of Geneva, and 5 grandchildren.

He was the brother of the late Ruth Shepard.

There are no prior calling hours. Private services will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Mumford Rural Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Tourette Syndrome Association, 42-40 Bell Boulevard, Bayside, New York 11361-2820. Arrangements were completed by H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home of Batavia.

Elwyn W. Sprague

Batavia - Elwyn W. “Al” Sprague, age 93, formerly of Horseshoe Lake, Batavia, retired owner and operator of E. Sprague, Batavia, Inc., died Tuesday, June 13, 2006, at LeRoy Village Green Nursing Home.

Mr. Sprague was born November 26, 1912 in Batavia, a son of the late Walter H. and C. Gertrude Bennett Sprague.

After retiring, he was very active in the community. He served as President of the Holland Purchase Historical Society, and was a member of the American Contract Bridge League and former Director of the Batavia Duplicate Bridge Game. He was also active in the management of the Horseshoe Lake Association and enjoyed golf, fishing, bicycling and cross-country skiing.

The family wishes to express its gratitude for the compassionate care given Elwyn at the LeRoy Village Green Nursing Home.

He is predeceased by his first wife Gertrude Ebling Sprague who died in 1974.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Jo Quirk Sprague, whom he married in 1976; four children, Frank Sprague of Phoenix, AZ, Judith (Robert) Sprague Riggin of Waukegan, IL, Janet “Janey” (John) Sprague Fitzgerald of Batavia and Frederick Paul ( Beverly ) Sprague of Fairfield, IA; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was the brother of the late Everett Sprague and Gladys Sprague Story.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday at H. E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia where services will follow at 5 p.m. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Holland Purchase Historical Society, 131 West Main Street, Batavia, NY 14020 or LeRoy Village Green Nursing Home, 10 Munson Street, LeRoy, New York 14482.

Mrs. Lottie E. Palenski

Batavia - Mrs. Lottie E. Palenski, age 82, of Batavia, died Tuesday, June 6, 2006, at LeRoy Village Green Nursing Facility.

Mrs. Palenski was born November 17, 1923 in Buffalo, a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Lobczowska Weglarz.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Church.

She is predeceased by her first husband, Michael Garwol who died in 1952 and her second husband John B. Plenski, who died in 1991.

Survivors include a son, John (Jan Loftus) Palenski of Batavia ; two daughters, Elizabeth (John Rumble) Palenski of Medina and Cynthia (Charles) Gibson of Macedon; several nieces and nephews.

She is the sister of the late Julia Murphy, Mary Witucki and Alice Bobek.

The family wishes to express their gratitude for the compassionate care given to their mother at the LeRoy Village Green Nursing Home.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph 's Church. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Cemetery, Cheektowaga, NY. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph's Church, 303 East Main Street, Batavia, NY 14020 and Richmond Memorial Library, 19 Ross Street, Batavia, New York 14020.

Mrs. Patricia Ann Ivison Miller

Bergen - Mrs. Patricia Ann Ivison Miller, age 55, of Bergen, died Tuesday, May 30, 2006, at Lakeside Memorial Hospital, Brockport.

Mrs. Miller was born February 3, 1951 in Batavia, a daughter of Josephine M. Mogavero Ivison and the late Duane R. Ivison.

She graduated from Byron Bergen High School in 1969, Trocare College in 1971 and SUNY Brockport in 1973 receiving her permanent (teaching) certificate.

She was a member of St. Vincent DePaul Roman Catholic Church since 1973 where she served as the housekeeper for many years; Bergen Triangle Club; Bergen Business & Civic Association, the Byron Bergen Educational Foundation and Bergen Boy Scout Troop #31 committee member. She was known as the “Bowling School Teacher” for her part in the Tuesday morning ladies bowling league; former 4-H leader and was former operator and teacher of her own Nursery School in Bergen. She loved caring for little children and the elderly.

Surviving along with her mother is her husband, Holden C. “Denny” Miller whom she married October 15, 1973; 5 children, Nicole M. Miller of Bergen, Aimee D. (David) Miller Frederes of Rochester, Matthew Z. Miller, Emmanuelle V. Miller, Holden D.P. Miller, all of Bergen; a brother, Daniel R. (Lynn M.) Ivison of South Byron; two sisters, Janet M. Casper of Bergen and Julie E. (Stephen) Ivison-Livero of Byron; a grandchild, Elaine Josephine Gburski of Hilton; several nieces and nephews.

She was the mother of the late Nathaniel B. Miller, sister of the late Brian R. Ivison and grandmother of the late Aston David Frederes.

Friends may call from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 51 South Lake Street, Bergen. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday at St. Vincent DePaul Roman Catholic Church, 11 North Main Street, Churchville. Burial will be in Byron Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family to be distributed among Patty's favorite charities.

Mr. Harwood M. Hovey

Corfu - Mr. Harwood M. Hovey, age 87, of Corfu, warranty administrator for Boyle’s Motors in Batavia, died Tuesday, June 13, 2006, at the New York State Veteran's Home.

Mr. Hovey was born April 23, 1919 in Batavia, the son of the late Marcus W. and Charlotte Baker Hovey.

Mr. Hovey was a member of St. Joseph´s Church in Batavia where he was involved with church activities. A graduate of Batavia High School, Mr. Hovey worked at Boyle’s for 20 years. He was an original member of St. Joe´s Drum Corp, which was formerly known as Father Kelly´s Boys, and will be remembered as a devoted and loving father and husband who enjoyed time with his family. A veteran, he served with the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theatre during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Regina A. Slominski Hovey; his son, Mark A. Hovey of Louisiana; four daughters, Patricia Epple of Batavia, Kimberly Hovey of Corfu, Kathleen Jasinski of Batavia and Julie (Thomas) Madden of Georgia; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his four sisters.

Friends may call from 10:00 am to 11:30 a.m. Friday at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia where prayers will be recited at 11:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at Noon at St. Joseph's Church, 303 East Main Street. Burial, with full military honors, will be in the family plot in Elmwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made in the form of Mass Intentions.

Mrs. Jean Marie Butler

Byron - Mrs. Jean Marie Butler, age 74, of Byron, a nurse´s assistant at the Batavia VA Medical Center in Batavia died Wednesday, May 31, 2006, at her home under the care of HomeCare & Hospice.

Mrs. Butler was born September 1, 1931 in Watkins Glen, the daughter of the late Oscar Washington and Josephine Hatfield Marsh.

Her husband, Robert Leroy Butler, died in 1987.

Surviving are her children, Kreis (Dorothy) Butler of Denver, Co., Keith (Diane) Butler of Syracuse, Kathy (late Norman) Hoskins of Byron and Rodney (Terry) Butler of Hamlin; her companion Gilbert Ernst of Byron; seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late Charles, Mott, Elmer and Robert Marsh.

Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia, where services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Byron Cemetery, Byron.

Paul M. Wooton

Bergen - Mr. Paul M. Wooton, age 81, of Bergen, an engineer at Rochester Products for 34 years, died Thursday, January 26, 2006, at Lakeside Memorial Hospital in Brockport.

Mr. Wooton was born October 18, 1924, in Holley, the son of the late Harold and Gladys Holt Wooton.

He was a member of North Bergen Presbyterian Church.

A veteran, he served with the U.S. Navy in World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Beverly (Baase) Wooton, whom he married June 28, 1980, of Bergen; four sons, Scott (Marlaina) Wooton of Byron, Rex Wooton of Byron, Tracy (Patricia) Wooton of Chili and Dale (Titing) Wooton of Connecticut; three step-children, Cheryl (Eric) McConnell of Henrietta, Scott (Sandy) Koch of West Winfield, N.Y. and Rebecca (Andrew) Zaref of New Jersey and 12 grandchildren.

He is the father of the late Andrew Wooton.

There are no prior calling hours. Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday at Bergen First Presbyterian Church, 38 South Lake Street, Bergen. Burial will be in Byron Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bergen First Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 206, Bergen, N.Y. 14416 or North Bergen Presbyterian Church, 7068 North Bergen Road, Bergen, N.Y. 14416.
