Julie Vuolo Agresta passed away peacefully on Dec. 11, at the Gabrilove Hospice Inn of St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany, at age 44. Julie had courageously carried on a three-and-a-half-year struggle with sarcoma, an extremely rare form of cancer.

Born on Long Island, Julie lived most of her early years in the seaport village of Port Jefferson and eventually moved to Arizona. There, she graduated from Saguaro High School in Scottsdale, Ariz., where she excelled as a student and volleyball player. Julie earned her bachelor’s degree from Northern Arizona University in nutrition and her master’s from Arizona State University in education. After a brief teaching career in Houston and Katy, Texas, and a move to Clifton Park, Julie decided to be a full-time mom for her daughters Gabby and Libby, but continued to show her love for students by substitute teaching.

When it came to her family, church and helping others, Julie was a dynamo. She loved to bake specialty cakes for friends, family and strangers, took in children whose parents were experiencing difficult times, assumed key roles for her church, including as its education director, helped with club volleyball and still managed to keep herself fit through her YMCA workouts and her special gardening skills at home. Julie was an early and regular Facebook advocate, where she friended many people whom she kept updated throughout her long illness. As the countless comments on her Facebook page attest, her impact on the lives of others was powerful.

Along with a deep love for her family and friends, Julie was strong in her faith. Julie’s relationship with Jesus motivated her to love and serve others in an amazing fashion and it is what gave Julie the incredible peace and strength she exhibited during her final days before entering Heaven and the arms of her Savior.

Julie is survived by a huge loving family, including her husband, Tony; daughters Gabriella, 16, and Elizabeth, 13, of Clifton Park; mother, Susan Lund of Queensbury; stepfather, John Lund of Scottsdale, Ariz., and stepsisters, Sarah, Eve and Ann; father and stepmother, Richard and Laura Vuolo of Scottsdale, Ariz.; brother and sister-in-law Timothy and Terry Vuolo of Alpharetta, Ga.; sister and brother-in-law Amy and Andy Gawrys of East Greenbush; sister and brother-in-law Jane and Bill Cartier of Ballston Lake; mother-in-law Nancy Laraway Weissflog of Oneonta; father-in-law and stepmother-in-law Anthony Sr. and Carla Agresta of Saddle Brook, NJ; plus numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and stepsisters throughout the country.

A service of remembrance and celebration was held at Parkside Church in Clifton Park on Dec. 15 for Julie’s family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a gift be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute at www.dana-farber.org or to Parkside Church at www.parksidecc.org.
