CRETARA, ERNEST A. - Of Naples, FL, formerly of Ossining, NY died Saturday, December 8, 2001 in Naples, FL. He was 76. Mr. Cretara was the founder of Westchester House Cleaning Services, Ossining. Ernie was born in Ossining to Ernest and Josephine Barlaam Cretara. He was educated in the Ossining Public Schools and graduated from Ossining High School. Mr. Cretara served in the US Marine Corps during World War II, receiving the Purple Heart. On May 23, 1948 he married Edith Westpfal at St. Augustine Church in Ossining. Ernie lived in Naples for the past 21 years. Before that he lived in Ossining and Briarcliff Manor. Locally he was a member of the Ossining Rotary Club, Charter Member of the Blue Goose, Columbus Lodge, Ossining Elks Lodge, Knights of Columbus and the Marine Corps League. Ernie and Edie will be remembered for treating everyone they met in life like family and held their friendships close to their hearts. They loved each and every one of you. He is survived by one son, Ernest Cretara and his wife Beth, of Ossining, one daughter Betty Cretara, of San Francisco, CA, one sister, Grace Ripostella, of Ossining, four grandchildren, Cara, Cristina, Caitlin, and Vincent and many wonderful nieces, nephews, and cousins. DEVANY, DANIEL - Of Yonkers, died on December 8, 2001. Mr. Devany was born in Yonkers to Daniel C. and Frances (Kennedy) Devany. He attended St. Peter's Grade School and Yonkers High School. In 1945 he enlisted in the Marine Corps and attained the rank of Sergeant. During that time he was on Presidential Guard Duty in Washington, DC, for President Truman. He was honorably discharged in 1949 but was recalled in 1950 during the Korean Conflict. On July 21, 1950 he married Margaret Murphy in St. Peter's Church. Margaret survived residing in Yonkers. In 1953 he was appointed to the Yonkers Fire Department where he worked for 20 years retiring in 1973. Mr. Devany was very active in many associations such as the Fire Department Glee Club, the Holy Name Society, the War Veterans Association, the Welfare Committee of the Mutual Aid Association, the Southside Club, Sacred Heart Church, Boy Scouts, North Yonkers Boys Club. Mr. Devany also worked as a salesman for American Drapery and Carpet Company in NYC and as a real estate agent for Peter Riolo Real Estate Co. in Hastings. Besides his wife Margaret, Mr. Devany is survived by his two sons, Daniel of Jacksonville, FL, John of Sebring, FL, his two daughters, Nancy Schnibbe of Hastings, NY, and Laura Bocchino of Norwood, NJ and six grandchildren. DUQUETTE, THERESA Y. - A former 45 year resident of Croton, died at her residence in Peekskill on December 9, 2001. She was born in Sherbrook Canada, on June 14, 1923 to Jules and Julia Boutin Audet. Theresa was a chef for The Ossining School District for 10 years until 1990, prior to that she also worked as a chef for the FDR Veterans Hospital in Montrose, for over 20 years. She was a member of the Peekskill Senior Citizens, and The Holy Rosary Society at the Holy Name of Mary Church in Croton. She is survived by her daughters Helen DeCarlo of Kissimmee, Fla., Rita Buck of Croton, and Pauline Martin of Burt, Michigan. Her brother Lucien Boutin of Berlin, NH and her grandchildren Christopher DeCarlo, Amanda Buck, Allison Buck, Melissa Martin, and Jaime Martin. Also her great grandson Christopher Michael DeCarlo. FONTANA, VERA - Died Sunday, December 9, 2001 at the Nyack Manor Nursing Home in Valley Cottage. She was 86. Vera was a loving and dedicated wife, homemaker, mother and grandmother, who will surely be missed. She was born in Brooklyn, NY on March 10, 1915, the daughter of Matthew and Mary (Corrigan) Keenan. Vera is survived by her husband Aristo (Jack) Fontana, three devoted daughters, Joan Slattery of Congers, Cecilia Dennis of Brooklyn and Bernadette Napoli of New Jersey, five cherished grandchildren, Edwin and Michael Dennis, Jody Magee, Sara and Luke Napoli. She is also survived by 10 nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother John Keenan and a sister Lillian Henderson. GILBERTI, GABRIEL - Gabriel Gilberti of West Harrison, died Saturday, December 8, 2001. He was 80 years old. He was born April 12, 1921 in Baltimore to Augustino and Annunziata Gilberti. Mr. Gilberti served in the United States Army during World War II. In 1948 he married Mary Ferrer in White Plains. He was the owner of National Typewriter Service Inc. in Port Chester for 30 years, retiring in 1986. Besides his wife Mary of West Harrison, he is survived by his children, Gary (Susan) Gilberti of Wappingers, NY and Gail (Andrew) Lask of Granite Springs, NY; two brothers, Nunzio and Carmen and a sister, Marie Cerreta. Also surviving are his grandchildren Richard, Brian and Kim Zumbach and Scott and Travis Gilberti. He is predeceased by a brother Anthony and a sister Fanny Scavone. GLENNON, GERARD E. - Gerard E. Glennon died December 10, 2001. He was the loving husband of Alicia Lois Glennon for 51 years, the son of the late William and Elenor Glennon; the devoted father of Peter G. of Ridgefield, Connecticut and Kevin C. of White Plains and three grandchildren. IPPOLITI, FERNANDO (FREDDY) - A resident of Ossining, died Sunday, December 9, 2001. Fernando was born in Mosciano, St. Angelo, Italy, on December 9, 1941 and was the son of Francesco and Elisa Iacovini Ippoliti. He was 60. Fernando was the Owner/Operator of Freddy's Landscaping in Ossining and a member of Columbus Lodge. Mr. Ippoliti is survived by his wife, Martha, his daughter Maria Fernanda Tejera, his son Marcelo, three sisters, Angela Garcia, Anna Lopez, and Armandina De Armas, two brothers Jose and Valeriano, three grandsons Nicholas, Alexander and Sebastian Tejera, one granddaughter Isabella Ippoliti. LLEWELLYN, NESSA LOPEZ - widow of Charles Llewellyn, died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2001 at the Mary Manning Walsh Nursing Home in NYC. She was 103. Born Nessa Lopez on October 31, 1898 in Christiana, Jamaica, British West Indies, she immigrated to the United States in 1917 and became a citizen in 1923. She was the last survivor of twelve brothers and sisters. Her husband, a fellow immigrant from Jamaica, became one of the first minority linotype operators at the New York Herald Tribune. Mrs. Llewellyn, a mother, wife, businesswoman, family matriarch and loyal friend, lived for over 73 years in White Plains, NY before becoming a resident, at age 101, of the nursing home. She is survived by her son, J. Bruce Llewellyn, Chairman and CEO of the Philadelphia Coca-Cola Bottling Co., a daughter, Dorothy Cropper, judge of the NY State Court of Claims, three grandchildren, a daughter-in-law, a son-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews including Secretary of State Colin Powell. Viewing will be from 9-12 and services at 10:00am Wed December 12 at St. John the Divine.

MALASPINA, LORRAINE J. - Lorraine J. Malaspina of Croton-on-Hudson, formerly of Ossining died Monday, December 10, 2001 at Hudson Valley Hospital Center. She was 70. Mrs. Malaspina worked as Certified Health Unit Coordinator for Phelps Memorial Hospital Center for over 20 years retiring in 1999. Mrs. Malaspina was born February 2, 1931 in Amesbury, MA to Adelard and Rosemond Jacques Poliquin. On June 27, 1952 she married Eugene R. Malaspina in Tarrytown. Mrs. Malaspina lived in Croton for the past 18 years and before in Ossining and Tarrytown. Locally she was a parishioner of St. Augustine Church and member of the Senior Groups, Founding member and past president of the Columbiettes in Ossining and Girl Scout Leader. She is survived by two daughters, Connie Malaspina of Lake Forest, CA and Laura-Jean Holick of Danbury, CT; one brother Butch Poliquin of Danbury, CT; seven grandchildren, and one great grandson and several nieces and nephews. Family members who died earlier include her husband Eugene R., one daughter Carmen Gardner, one son Robert E. Malaspina and one sister Carmen Panasci. MARRELLO, DOMINICK FRANCIS - Died December 9, 2001. Born to Michael and Frances Carboro Marrello on March 4, 1927. He was predeceased by his brothers Michael and Louis and his sister Mary. He was born in Larchmont and lived there all his life. When his parents died, he raised his sister to adulthood and encouraged her to obtain in a good education in nursing. He served in the AAF from 1/15/46 to 4/14/47 and received an honorable discharge. He worked in Foley's Hardware for many years leaving to start a new career in the postal service in Rye where he worked for over twenty years. He enjoyed trout fishing, bowling, and harness racing. He was a kind, generous, and thoughtful man always willing to help when needed. He will be sadly missed by his wife Sylvia and remaining brother Albert, his sisters-in-law and his nieces and nephews. Also missed by Jean, Barrie, Adam and his mother-in-law Elsie Evans. He was a prince among men.

MISSIG, RICHARD E. - of Croton, NY died on Dec. 7, 2001 due to a heart attack. He will be missed. Beloved son of Pius & Myrtle Missig. Richard was a nurse at Phelps Memorial Hospital in Sleepy Hollow. During his career at Phelps Richard worked in the Emergency and Health Management Departments. Richard was also a former lay missionary of the Maryknoll Father's assigned to Korea. Besides his parents Richard is survived by his brothers, Robert, Paul, and Bob, his sisters Margaret and Jeanette, and many nieces and nephews. MOSTBERGER, MARGARET C. - of Yonkers, died on December 10, 2001 at the St. Joseph Hospital at the age of 98. Beloved wife of the late Frederick A. Mostberger. NASH, ANNA - Anna Nash, 67, of Yonkers died on December 9, 2001. Anna was born in the Bronx on January 6, 1934 to Bernardo and Emma Federico. She was educated locally in the Bronx. In 1952 she married Michael Nash in the Bronx. Michael predeceased her in 1995. Anna worked as a nurses aide for St. Joseph's Nursing Home in Yonkers for 18 years. Anna is survived by her four sons, Edward of Yonkers, Anthony of Brewster, William of New Jersey, Michael of Shrub Oak, her one daughter, Debra of Yonkers and four grandchildren. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in her name to the Friars of Atonement in Garrison, NY. NIEVES, JULIO VAZQUEZ - 66, resident of White Plains since 1959, died Sunday, December 9, 2001. Born July 4, 1935 in Barranquitas, Puerto Rico, to the late Angela Nieves and Jose Vazquez. He married Jacinta Rondon on January 31, 1959 in Guaynabo, PR. survived by children, Sandra Vazquez-Irizary of Puerto Rico, Evelyn Vazquez-Parnell of Wappingers Falls, NY, Julio A. Vazquez of San Antonio, TX, Mauricio Vazquez of Rochester, NY, and Luis Raul Vazquez of White Plains, NY; one brother Carlos Vazquez of Caguas, Puerto Rico and four sisters, Josefa Vazquez of Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico; grandchildren, Crystal Vazquez, Vanessa Vazquez, Jessica Parnell, Samantha Parnell, and Patricia and Jose Irizary. NILSSON, ELEANOR BYRNE - Eleanor Byrne. Nilsson, 80, widow of Robert H. Nilsson, died Friday, December 7, 2001, in Bennington, VT. f Survivors include two daughter and sons-in-law, Robin and Jim Vincent of North Bennington, VT and Chris and Joe Cavorsi of Reading, PA, two sons and a daughter-in-law, Steven R. Nilsson of Tarrytown and Copake, NY, and Cliff and Carol Nilsson of LaGrange, NY, 11 grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Nilsson was predeceased by three sisters, Muriel Paton, Gloria Weddle and Sheila Meldrum. SETZER, GENE WILLIS - Gene Willis Setzer died on Tuesday, December 4, 2001 in Nyack, New York. He was 83. He was born in Wichita, Kansas, on October 9, 1918, to Charles William and Eda (Hutchinson) Setzer. After being graduated from Wichita State University, he joined the U.S. Navy in 1942. For his service as Lieutenant on a Destroyer Escort in the North Atlantic, he received the Bronze Star. He married Kathleen Hitchner in 1943; after WWII, they moved to Seattle, where he received his MA in Political Science from the University of Washington, and then to Shanks Village, New York for doctoral work at Columbia University. He worked for the Rockefeller Brothers Fund and the Rockefeller Family Fund on projects furthering women's education, historical restoration and environmental preservation. He continued working on environmental issues during his years with the American Conservation Association, Jackson Hole Preserve and the National Audubon Society, where he was Board Chairman from 1964 to 1974 and Vice-President from 1974 to 1980. During the 1960's and 1970's, he was active in Nyack's development, serving two terms on the Village Board of Trustees and chairing the Nyack Urban Renewal Agency from 1963 to 1965. He was later a member of the Planning Board and the Zoning Board of Appeals. As an active member of the First Baptist Church of Nyack, he served as Deacon, Trustee and Teacher. He is survived by his wife Kathleen and by his children: Janet Broughton and her husband John of Oakland, California; Charles Setzer and his wife Dawn of Burlington, Vermont; and Dell Setzer of Jersey City, New Jersey. The family will hold a Memorial Service at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 5, 2002, at Hannemann Funeral Home, 88 South Broadway, Nyack. SHERRY, ELIZABETH E. (EBERLE) - 87, of Putnam Valley, NY, died November 20, 2001 in Foxboro, MA. She was born July 14, 1914 to the late Warren C. Eberle and Ellis Dumas Eberle. She was an artist. She was a Foxboro, MA resident for less than one year, and longtime resident of Putnam Valley, NY. She was a graduate of Friends Seminary, NYC. Graduate of the National Academy of Design of New York. Member of Women's Aglow. Member of the Full Gospel Businessman's Association. She was a member of the Harrison Presbyterian Church, NY. She was an international professional artist. survived by children, Noel Sherry of Foxboro, MA, Norman Burt Sherry III of NY, Thomas Sherry of LA, David Sherry of AZ; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Predeceased by husband Norman B. Sherry. Betty was a celebrated cook, whose recipes are treasured by family and friends. Her dried flower arrangements added to the decor of many a Westchester County Home. She was a devoted mother who raised four boys, with a salesman as as a husband- often on the road. SMITH, BEVERLY RUTH - Beverly Ruth Smith of Suffern, NY died on December 10, 2001 at the Good Samaritan Hospital. She was 65 years old. Born on April 27, 1936 in Ogdensburg, NY, to Peter and Mabel Smith. Beverly was graduated from Nyack High School and married Jack Smith and they made their home in Suffern, NY for the past 45 years. Beverly worked at the Pine Hurst Nursing Home and then at Good Samaritan Hospital as a Medical Transcriptionist for over 20 years. Always devoted to her family, Beverly is survived by her beloved husband Jack of Suffern, NY; her loving daughter Betty; her dear son and daughter-in-law Reggie and Paula; her sisters Rita Osborne of West Nyack and Pat Callahan of Clewiston, FL; her cherished grandchildren, Jaclyn, Christine, Sarah, Abigail and Timothy. Her funeral service will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 12, 2001 at 8 p.m., the Rev. Debbie Kemp officiating, at the Funeral Home. TOPOLOSKY, JEAN C. (TOPPY) - Resident of Pittston, PA and formerly of Yonkers, NY, died October 18, 2001 at the age of 74. Born December 30, 1926 to Thomas and Catherine Illingworth, Jean had attended Yonkers schools. A former employee of St. John's Hospital for over 20 years. Surviving are her husband, Joseph Topolosky Sr. and her children, Joseph Topolosky Jr. of Arizona, William A. Topolosky of Pennsylvania, Catherine Farell of Pennsylvania and Marylou Schwartz of Yonkers, NY. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Christopher, Allison and Kimberly Topolosky, Michael Topolosky, and Joseph Farell. Jean was a devoted wife and mother, whose knowledge, wisdom and love will be sorely missed by all. A private ceremony was held October 20 at Adonizio Funeral Home in Pittston, PA.

TORTORA, JEFFREY M. - Jeffrey M. Tortora of Crestwood died Monday, December 10, 2001. He was 39 years old. He was the loving son of Fred P. and Teresa DeVito Tortora. BECKER, EILEEN MARY - Eileen M. Becker of Stony Point died on December 7, 2001 at Good Samaritan Hospital. She was 65 years old. Eileen and her husband Carl have lived in Stony Point for the past 38 years, prior to which she lived in Bronx, NY. Survivors include her husband at home, two sons Carl and his wife Daria of Haverstraw and Gary and his daughters Christina and Jacqueline of Avalon, NJ. She is also survived by a brother Michael Fogarty and wife Dorothy of Boundbrook, NJ and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call at the Edward C. He was born April 18, 1931 in Hastings, NY to the late Mary Katanic and Joseph John Bless, Sr. He married Patricia Staples on May 8, 1954 in Hastings, NY. He lived in Mahopac since 1968 and before that in Bronx, NY. He was a sales rep for Contractor's Register of Shrub Oak. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean War. survived by his wife, Patricia, children, Debbie Faba, Joe Bless, Mary Vitabile, Nancy Smith, Kathy Carnazza; one sister, Mary Murray, and 10 grandchildren. BUDERMAN, JOSEPH LEO - On December 9, 2001, age 84, of Pennsauken, NJ. Beloved husband of the late Frances (nee Khelenbeck). Born in New Rochelle, NY, moved to Ridgewood, then Hamburg, Mt. He worked as a fine cabinet maker and served in the Pacific with the Navy in WWII. survived by daughter Nancy Brooks of Merchantville, son and daughter-in-law Robert and Claudia of Pennsauken, beloved granddaughter Frances Elizabeth, sister Edna and many nieces and nephews. He is also predeceased by many faithful cat and dog companions, including Dusty, who passed on November 20. CONSIDINE-CROWLEY, ROSEMARY A. - Rosemary A. Considine-Crowley of South Cairo, NY passed on to eternal rest early Sunday morning December 9, 2001 at the age of 59. A resident of Lake Carmel before moving to the Catskills, Rosemary Duffy was born and raised in Donegal, Ireland prior to moving to the States in 1959. She was the beloved wife of Patrick Crowley. Mother of Thomas, Vincent, Kevin, Steven and Lenore. Loving grandmother of eight. Rosemary joins her late brother Charles while leaving behind six brothers and sisters.
