The youngest of six children, Anna was forced to flee her homeland as a teen, as Nazi soldiers invaded her town. When her father told her to run to save her life she had to leave her family behind, at her parents direction. Taking no clothing or food with her, she survived the most grueling of experiences in dark woods, cattle trains, a bitter cold Siberian work camp, illness, malnutrition and physical exhaustion, even after liberation.

The ship, while crowded with many ill passengers and little food, made a one-month journey from Bremen, Germany to New York City. There they were welcomed with open arms by Eleanor Roosevelt who greeted them at Ellis Island and handed them $20 each to start their lives in America.
Anna enjoyed her early childhood in Poland and her many years as an American citizen. She enjoyed spending time with her many friends, neighbors, and family.
