CECELIA TEDESCO BLONDINA

Formerly of Chester, N.Y. - Cecelia Tedesco Blondina, 62, died on Friday, September 17, 2004. She was born in Hackensack, N.J. and lived in Chester, N.Y. prior to moving to Raleigh, N.C. last month. Prior to retiring, she was a bookkeeper for Stateline Electronics on Mahwah, N.J. She is survived by her husband, August Blondina; her daughter Christine Prickrell and her husband Richard of Fort Johnson, N.J.; her son, Robert Blondina and his wife Jennifer of Hamilton Township, N.J.; her brother, Robert Tedesco and his wife Marianne of Maywood, N.J.; and her three grandchildren, Adam, Jessica and Carolann. The funeral will be on Friday, Sept. 24 at 10 a.m. from the G. Thomas Gentile Funeral Home, 397 Union St., Hackensack, N.J. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Francis R.C. Church, 50 Lodi St., Hackensack at 11 a.m. Entombment will follow at Garden of Memories Mausoleum, Washington Township, N.J. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Sept. 22 from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday, Sept. 23 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

ROSEY S. LaCOUR

Shohola, Pa. - Rosey S. LaCour, 81, of Shohola, Pa., died at home on Wednesday, September 15, 2004. Prior to 1979, she resided in Edison, N.J., where she retired as an office administrator for the Thomas A. Edison Council, Boy Scouts of America. She was a WW II Marine Corps Veteran, a member of the Disabled American Veterans, the Shohola Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary, a charter member of the Checkered Flag Fan Racing Club, and a member of the Eastern Old Timers Racing Fan Club. She was also very active in numerous church organizations in Pennsylvania and New York, including the Busy Fingers Crafts Club. The daughter of Eli and Anna (Medley) Svatich, she was born in DesMoines, Iowa on May 8, 1923. She was the widow of Robert C. LaCour who predeceased her in 1985. She is survived by her son, Robert, his wife Margaret and one grandchild, Dana Marie of North Brunswick, N.J. A memorial service will be held at Saint Jacobi Lutheran Church, Rt 434, Shohla, PA on September 25 at 2 p.m. The Rev. Eddie Nilsen will officiate. Donations in Rosey's memory may be made to Hospice Saint John, 1007 Oak Street, Pittston Twp., PA 18640.

RUTH SHERWOOD CLARKE

Marlboro, N.Y. - Ruth Sherwood Clarke of Marlboro, died Friday, September 17, 2004 at St. Francis Hospital, Poughkeepsie. She was 94. Born in Norwich on February 2, 1910, she was the daughter of Lucy and Howard Sherwood. She married Glenn Curtis Clarke on February 22, 1931. Mr. Clarke predeceased her in 1964. Mrs. Clarke attended New Paltz Normal School. She was a member of the Milton Methodist Church and AARP Chapter 975. She is survived by her daughter, Judy Clarke Ghezzi and husband, Bernard Ghezzi, of Hopewell Junction; a son, James H. Clarke and wife, Emily, of Gettysburg, Pa.; and a son, Glenn S. Clarke; and close friend of the family, Edouard DeSoto of Milton. She is also survived by four grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held next Saturday, September 25 at 2 p.m. at the Milton Methodist Church, Church St., Milton. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Sarah Hull Hallock Public Library, Milton and the Milton Methodist Church. FRANCIS "MOOSE" GRABOWSKI

Greenwood Lake, N.Y. - Francis "Moose" Grabowski of Greenwood Lake, an excavator and lifelong resident of the area, died Sunday, September 19, 2004 at St. Anthony Community Hospital in Warwick, NY. He was 55. The son of the late Francis Stanley and Doris Greck Grabowski, he was born on March 17, 1949 in Warwick, NY. He was a member of the ELKS Lodge 2067 in Greenwood Lake and both the Shawangunk and Monroe-Chester Rod and Reel Clubs. Survivors include his wife, Julie Grabowski; his daughter, Megan Grabowski and his sons: Billy Grabowski and Patrick Grabowski, as well as his sister, Sally Jo Warnock and his brother, Deems Grabowsky; and his uncle, Ted Greck. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. Visitation hours will be held from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, September 21, 2004 at the Strong-Basile Funeral Home, 4 Oak St. in Greenwood Lake, NY. Funeral services will be held at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 21, 2004 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made for his children to The Grabowski Family, P. O. MRS. CHARLOTTE GORMAN

Greenville Township, N.Y. - Mrs. Charlotte Gorman of Greenville Township, NY, a retired teacher in the Bronx School System and resident of the area since 1970, died Sunday, September 19, 2004 at Bon Secours Community Hospital, Port Jervis. She was 86. She was born April 8, 1918 in Bronx, NY, the daughter of the late Jacob and the late Molly Feinstein Hookman. She was a member of Temple Beth El, Port Jervis and a life member of Hadassah. She was also a Hunter Alumna. Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Harry Gorman, at home; two sons: Dr. Arthur A. Gorman of South Carolina and Paul J. Gorman of Greenville Township; one sister, Sylvia Hookman Parver of Boca Raton, FL; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, also nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday September 21, 2004 at 2 p.m. at the Temple Beth-El, East Main St., Port Jervis. Burial will be at Beth-El cemetery, Port Jervis, NY. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. Funeral arrangements are by the Gray-Parker Funeral Home, 100 E. Main St., Port Jervis.

JOSE MARTIN-LOPEZ

Blooming Grove, N.Y. - Jose was born in Granada, Spain on March 2, 1926 and on September 13, 2004, the Lord received him in his bosom while asleep. He was predeceased by his parents, Jose Martin Martin and Dolores Lopez Martin; his two older sisters, Trinidad Martin Molina and Marisa Martin Yudes. He is survived by his nieces, Maria Trinidad Alfaro Martin, Marisa Yudes Martin and Maria Dolores Yudes Martin; and by his nephews, Antonio Yudes Martin and Jose Luis Yudes Martin. He was originally a portrait painter. His portraits remain in Paris, Stratsburgh, Madrid and Granada. His city landscapes of Paris and New York, still hang in his house, with the exception of those sold on the spot, fresh from the brush. As most of us, he came to America with the dream of painting his way to fame. Soon enough he found that, as most painters, if you do not have an "angel" you cannot make it in this world. However, he became a successful textile designer. He came to Blooming Grove in 1967, where he became a member of the First Congregational Church. At the time of his death, he was a Deacon and much appreciated by his fellow parishioners for his loving ways and charisma. Jose leaves many wonderful memories in the minds of those who both met and loved him. He will certainly be missed. After cremation, his ashes will be buried in his native city of Granada. A memorial service will be held at the Blooming Grove Church of Christ, Friday, September 24 at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the BGCC.

MILDRED A. CANISSARIO

Crestview, Fla. - Mildred A. Canissario, of Crestview, Fla., died peacefully on September 14, 2004 at Silver Crest Manor Nursing Home. She was 95. She was born on September 2, 1909 in Austria to the late John and Maria Pinage. Mildred moved to the United States with her parents in 1912 and lived in Westwood, N.J. until 1928 when she met and married Ross Canissario whom she married at St. Andrew's Church in Westwood, N.J. In 1940, Ross and Mildred moved to the Newburgh area to raise their three children. In 1990, she moved to Crestview, Fla. Survivors include her loving sons, Dominick and John Canissario of Crestview, Fla.; cherished grandchildren, Nancy Hanlon of Michigan, Philip Gaudioso of Newburgh, Daniel Canissario of New Windsor, Ross Canissario of Virginia, Rene McFarland of Port Orchard, Wash., Vanessa Jordan of Oregon, Angela Canissario of Florida, Melissa Snyder of Wallkill, Barbara Catabay of Wallkill, Elizabeth Stewart of Newburgh, Frank Gaudioso of Newburgh and Stephen Gale of South Carolina; 26 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Ross in 1974 and a daughter Angela Gaudioso in 1957. The family will be present to receive friends on Wednesday, September 22 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Coloni Funeral Home, 3001 Rt 9W., New Windsor. A graveside service will be held at 12:15 p.m. at Calvary cemetery, New Windsor. Interment will follow in Calvary cemetery.

MICHAEL S. BYRNE

Monroe, N.Y. - Michael S. Byrne, of Monroe, a longtime area resident and Electrician for Global Electrical Contractors, Campbell Hall, NY, died Friday, September 17, 2004 at Vassar Bros Hospital, Poughkeepsie, NY. He was 41. He was the son of Hugh F. Byrne, deceased, and Catherine T. Jones Cunningham, born November 25, 1962 in Bronx, NY. He was a member of Sons of American Legion Post # 488, Monroe; attended Monroe-Woodbury High School and was an avid fisherman and sports fan. Survivors include his mother and stepfather, James T. and Catherine T. Cunningham of Monroe, NY: two brothers: Hugh F. and wife, Marie Byrne of Chester, NY and Kevin M. Byrne of Monroe, NY; two sisters: Catherine T. and husband Phil Seavey of Litchfield, NH and Ann M. and husband Pat Romano of Los Gatos, CA; his fiancee, Kelly J. Flanagan of Monroe, NY and future sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Lee Pantazopoulos of Monroe; also 12 nieces and nephews. ROBERT WAYNE MERRYMAN

Wallkill, N.Y. - Robert Wayne Merryman, loving father, devoted husband and friend to many, died tragically in a motorcycle accident, September 19, 2004. Born October 12, 1959 in Newburgh, Rob was a lifelong resident of the Hudson Valley, attending Marlboro High School and employed by IBM for 24 years. He married Dawn Phillips of Fishkill July 12, 1980. He is survived by his wife and three daughters, Jennifer age 23, Julie age 20 and Jessica at 18. Other survivors include his father, Winton Merryman of Marlboro and his six siblings and their families: Barbara Rolfe of Centennial, Colo., Arthur Merryman, Betty Wagner, Kathy Russ, David Merryman and Patricia Riley all of the Hudson Valley. He was predeceased by his mother, Alice Barley Merryman in 1999. He will be greatly missed by 23 nieces and nephews, and other extended family. Robert was a Distinguished Engineer and Director of Technology of IBM Global Services. His passions in addition to his family included travel, swimming and golf. Rob's golf was a game of companionship and story. Interest in swimming began with a record holding high school career and continued in recent years with his support of the Marlboro Dukes High School Swim Team and the New Paltz Hawks Swim Club. Robert lived a full, vibrant life, enriching the lives of all that surrounded him in his ceaseless generosity of spirit. He is profoundly loved and will be missed. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, September 23 at the DiDonato Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Friday, September 24 at St. Mary's Church, Marlboro. Burial will be at St. Mary's cemetery, Lattintown Rd., Marlboro on Friday. SANDRA D. "SANDY" MEYER

Stroudsburg, PA - Sandra D. "Sandy" Meyer of Stroudsburg, PA, passed away on Saturday, September 18, 2004 after a courageous battle with cancer. Sandy was the beloved daughter of Robert and Barbara Meyer of Milford, PA and sister of James K. Meyer of Philadelphia, PA. She was 26. Sandy was a graduate of Delaware Valley High School, Class of 1996 and Muhlenberg College (cum laude), Class of 2000. She taught mathematics at Unami Middle School in Chalfont, PA for the 2000-2001 school year and has been teaching mathematics and computer science at Pocono Mt. West High School in Mt. Pocono, PA since 2001. Sandy had been selected to appear in the 2004 edition of Who's Who Among America's Teachers. She will be remembered for her positive attitude and commitment to her students, friends and family. Sandy will be sadly missed by her parents, brother, her grandparents, Helen and Carl Strobel of Southampton, PA and Arthur Meyer of Milford, PA. She is further survived by aunts and uncles: Barbara and John Kelly of Saylorsburg, PA, Jeannie and Tom Fuentes of Del Rio, TX, Hargis and Helen Knoechel of Hatboro, PA and cousins: David and Margeret Kelly and sons of Pulaski, NY, Danielle and Nick Divanzo and children of Bangor, PA, Santana Fuentes of Texas and Steven Knoechel of Indiana, PA. RHODA RUBIN

Pittsfield, Mass. - Rhoda (Goldenberg) Rubin, 71, of Pine Grove Drive, died Friday, September 17, 2004 at Berkshire Medical Center following a brief illness. She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. May 29, 1933, the daughter of Irving and Lillian Tennebaum Goldenberg. She was educated in Ellenville, N.Y. schools and was a 1950 graduate of Ellenville High School. She continued her education at Union University School of Nursing in Albany, N.Y. where she graduated in 1953. She was accepted at age 16 at Cornell University as a veterinary student. She then moved to Pittsfield and was employed as a R.N. at the former Hillcrest Hospital for over 30 years. She most recently was employed by the Pittsfield Health Department as a school nurse and public heath nurse for over 28 years. She retired from nursing in 1995 but continued substituting as a school nurse until the time of her death. She cared for the local community for over 50 years. She was a member of Temple Anshe Amunim, the Massachusetts Nurses Association, the Senior Bowling League and a former member of B'Nai Brith. She was awarded the Pittsfield Gazette's Most Valuable Pittsfielder in 1993, the Berkshire County Guidance Assoc. Award for Contributions at Reid Middle School in 1990. She was also recognized by the Pittsfield Splendid 100 in 1986. She enjoyed gardening and volunteered her hobby at Springside Park. She loved visiting nursing homes with her dog, Zippy and care-giving for anyone in need. Her longtime companion, Emanuel Brown died in February of 1999. She is survived by her two sons, Ronald L. Rubin of Bend, Oreg., Lane H. Rubin of Santa Barbara, Calif.; a daughter, Debbie E. Rubin of Golden, Colo.; a brother, Marvin Goldenberg of Ellenville, N.Y.; her former husband Jerrold A. Rubin of Largo, Fla.; nieces, Adrian Kossar and Lynn Kaplan; cousins, Jerry and Sylvia Silverberg and Diane and Jackie Cooper. She also leaves her faithful dog, Zippy. She was predeceased by her relatives Ed and June Rubin, Eli and Molly Cooper and her stepmother Bessie Goldenberg. A funeral service and burial were held Sunday, September 19 at 3 p.m. at the Anshe Amunim Section of Pittsfield cemetery. Services were officiated by Barbara Cohen, Spiritual Leader of Temple Anshe Amunim. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations in her memory, may be made to the Berkshire Humane Society, the charity of one's choice or to the Rhoda Rubin Nursing Scholarship Fund to be established in her memory care of the Devanny-Condron Funeral Home, 40 Maplewood Ave., Pittsfield, MA 01201. Rhoda spent her final hours with her three children, beloved dog Zippy and many wonderful friends by her side. She touched the lives of many children and families, extending her care beyond the normal workday.

FRANCIS P. GETZ SR.

Pennsylvania - Francis P. Getz Sr., passed away October 9, 2004. He was the husband of the late Mary (nee Maynes) Getz of Sea Isle City, NJ and formerly of Exton, PA; father of James F. Getz, Patricia E. Frank, Timothy M. Getz and the late Francis P. Getz Jr.; also surviving are four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He is the brother of Rev. Joseph Getz, O.S.A., Paul Getz, Marie Matta Sr., Eleanor Dolan. Relatives and friends are invited to the Funeral Home of John Stretch., E. Eagle and St. Denis Rds., Havertown on Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. followed by concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Interment will be in St. Peter and Paul cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mr. Getz' name may be made to St. Joseph Parish, 44th and Landis Ave., Sea Isle City, NJ 08243, would be appreciated.

SALLY LEVINE

Newburgh, N.Y. - Sally Levine of Newburgh, a homemaker, entered into rest October 9, 2004 at Elant of Newburgh. She was 92. The daughter of Hyman and Pauline Wasserman, she was born April 9, 1912 in New York City, NY. She was the wife of the late Irving Levine. A family statement read: "Sally was a devoted volunteer for a Nursing Home in Queens and St. Lukes Hospital in Newburgh. Survivors include one daughter, Roberta Short and her husband David of New Windsor; one brother, Dr. Bernard Wasserman of Brooklyn; two sisters: Miriam Krieger and Gertrude Gurstein of Long Island; two grandchildren: Wesley Short of New Jersey and Allison Short of New Windsor. Gravside service will be Monday, October 11, 2004 at 2 p.m. at Mt. Lebonen cemetery, Queens. Rabbi Eckstein will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Lebonen cemetery, Queens. TILLIE A. STEVENS

Warwick, N.Y. - Tillie A. Stevens of Warwick, a housewife, and longtime resident of Chester and Monroe, died Tuesday, October 5, 2004 in St. Anthony's Community Hospital, Warwick. She was 88. The daughter of the late Alex Alberda and Clara Hainman Alberda, she was born September 27, 1916 in the Netherlands. She was the widow of John R. Stevens. She was a member of Chester Golden Age Club in Chester, and recently resided at Schervier Pavilion, Warwick. Survivors include several nieces and nephews. Greenwood Lake, N.Y. - Eleanor Downing of Greenwood Lake, a homemaker and longtime resident of the area, died on Saturday, October 9, 2004 in St. Anthony's Community Hospital in Warwick. She was 77. The daughter of the late William and Laura Cox Justus, she was born on November 27, 1926 in Brooklyn, NY. She was a member of Holy Rosary Church in Greenwood Lake. Survivors include her husband William Downing at home. Her daughter Maureen Zukoski of Greenwood Lake; her grandchildren: Michael Zukoski, Steven Zukoski, Corey Zukoski and Brandon Zukoski. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. LEAHETTA "ETTA" GHIKAS SAVARIA

Newburgh, N.Y. - Leahetta "Etta" Ghikas Savaria, of Newburgh, a long time resident of the area, entered into rest on Saturday, October 9, 2004 at home. She was 92. Daughter of the late George and Ida Brewer Mower, she was born June 20, 1912 in Summit, NJ. Etta was a member of Gardnertown United Methodist Church, Shepherds of Bethlehem Lodge and Senior Citizens of Newburgh. She was married to the late Gilbert Savaria, Anthony A. Ghikas and Edward Sprague Judson. Survivors include her sons, Edward Judson and Michael (Eugene) Ghikas and his wife Vaughn of Newburgh; grandchildren, Audrey Drandell and her husband Jeffrey of Manhattan Beach, CA, Eugene Judson of Mesa, AZ, Adam and Michelle Drandell and Emily Judson; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers and sisters, Rose Dayton, Florence Berry Milliken, Charles Whitaker Mower, Lawrence Mower and Ann Mower. The family will receive their friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, October 10, at the Brooks-DiDonato Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. Renate Neuhaus Chester, N.Y. Renate Neuhaus of Chester, New York a housewife and 36 year resident of the area, died October 1, 2004 at Elant of Goshen. Renate was 95 years of age. The daughter of the late Johann Heinreich Mocklinghoff and Agatha Lambertz she was born on August 29, 1909 Datteln-Westf.Reckinghausen, Germany. Renate was the widow of Dr. Werner W. Neuhaus, MD who died on May 7, 1983. Renate was a devote wife, a beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Renate is survived by her beloved sons Dr. Ralph K. Neuhaus of Chester, New York, and Michael Neuhaus of Goshen, New York. Renate is also survived by 8 adoring grandchildren Susan Hunter, Tanya Neuhaus, Stefan Neuhaus, Mark Sadana, Nicole Lockart, Christina Neuhaus, Karen Neuhaus and Thomas Neuhaus.
