Eleanor Madsen

HERKIMER — Eleanor (Richardson) Madsen, 75, formerly of 124 Oneida St., Oneonta, died on Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000, at Valley Health Services, Herkimer.

She was born on March 4, 1925, in Brooklyn, the daughter of Aage and Francha Olsen Richardson.

She was married to George K. Madsen. He died Aug. 18, 1997.

Survivors include two cousins, Harry Richardson of Chester, N.J., and Ethel Gustafson of Lancaster, Pa.

In keeping with Eleanor's wishes, there will be no formal funeral services.

All arrangements are entrusted to the Applegate & Day Funeral Home, 102 West St., Ilion.

Elizabeth H. Miller

PITTSFIELD — Elizabeth H. (Liz) Miller, 67, of Pittsfield, went to be with our Lord on Monday, Oct. 2, 2000.

She was born Feb. 26, 1933, in Oneonta, the daughter of James Averell Holl and Mary L. Wilson.

She was married to Lewis (Lukie) Miller on March 25, 1951, in New Berlin.

Liz was the cafeteria manager at the Morris Central School for 29 years which she enjoyed very much.

She was a lifelong resident of the New Berlin/Morris area, where she lived most of her life on the family dairy farm that she and her husband operated for nearly 50 years. She also worked and maintained the family's harness horses and the auction and feed store businesses.

She was an active part of the Otsego County Fair and secretary of the N.Y.S. Sires Harness Racing Association for many years.

She was also a 25-year member of the Unadilla Grange and the Otsego County Pomona Grange.

Liz lighted the hearts of many and will be terribly missed.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 50 years, Lukie Miller of Pittsfield; her children, Timothy L. Miller and his wife, Vicky, Terry L. Miller and his wife, Lisa, Lois Miller-Ballard and her husband, John, Wesley J. Miller and Mary Jane E. Conroe and her husband, Jeff, all of New Berlin.

She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, Everett (Flip) Hopper, Kevin S. Hopper, Melissa J. Hopper, Tonya M. Miller, Timothy L. Miller Jr., Michelle N. Miller, Sarah E. Conroe, Jessica L. Card, Luke M. Conroe, Merissa L. Card, Michael D. Miller, Matthew. J. Conroe and Makenzie L. Ballard; three sisters-in-law, Mildred I. Chase, Margaret Conklin and Ethel  White; and a brother-in-law, Donald Miller; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by a brother-in-law, Harley W. Miller; and a sister-in-law, Aleta Smith.

Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church of Morris on Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, at 1:30 p.m., with the Rev. J. Mark Norlund officiating. Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Morris.

Committal services and burial will follow the funeral service in Hillington Cemetery in Morris.

Those who wish are asked to donate to the "Liz Miller Memorial Scholarship Fund," in care of Morris Central School, Morris, N.Y. 13808.

Funeral arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home of Morris.

Rose A. Sapienza

ONEONTA — Rose A. Sapienza, 83, of Oneonta, passed away on Monday, Oct. 2, 2000, at her residence, with her daughters at her side.

Rose was born on Sept. 7, 1917, in Oneonta, the daughter of John and Grace (Salamone) La Martina.

She married Jack J. Sapienza on Oct. 6, 1944, in Oneonta. He died on Oct. 15, 1999.

Rose enjoyed golfing, sewing and needlework.

After her husband's retirement, they spent 16 winters in Wauchula, Fla.

She was a member of St. Mary's Church and its Young at Heart Group. While living in Florida, she attended St. Michael's Church in Wauchula.

Rose is survived by two daughters and their spouses, Grace and Clifford Barker of Otego and Sandra and Herb Fritsch of Lawrenceville, Ga.; a daughter-in-law, Kim Sapienza of Ballston Lake; four grandchildren, Jodie Barker of Otego, Gina Sapienza-Kelly and Robin Sapienza of Binghamton and Shaun Sapienza of Ballston Lake; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Sadie Blazick of San Diego,  Calif. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a son, Santo (Sam) Sapienza in 1992; a sister, Mary Sapienza; and two brothers, Tony and Leo La Martina.

A Mass of Christian burial will be offered on Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, with the Rev. Robert Longobucco, associate pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.

Friends are invited to call on Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, at which time the family will be in attendance.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice.

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Andrea Vandermark

RIDGECREST,  Calif. — Andrea Speranzi Vandermark, 54, of Ridgecrest,  Calif., died Thursday, Sept. 28, 2000, of complications from Hodgkin's disease.

She was born in Oneonta, N.Y., daughter of the late Andrew and Shirley Speranzi and stepdaughter of Millard B. Hurlburt.

She is survived by her companion, Darryl Molene of Ridgecrest,  Calif.; three children, Richard and Christina of Las Vegas, Nev., and Mrs. (Robert) Kimberly Rapp of Sanderson,  Texas; five grandchildren; a brother, Craig A. Speranzi of San Diego,  Calif.; a brother, Shawn B. Hurlburt of Oneonta, N.Y.; sister-in-law, Anne Speranzi of Oneonta; and aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and one niece. She also is survived by a lifelong friend, Sharon Murphy Costello of Nevada.

She was predeceased by a brother, Marc Richard Speranzi.

Funeral arrangements were private as requested.

Rupert R. Hunt Jr.

GILBERTSVILLE — Rupert R. Hunt Jr., 68, of Gilbertsville, went home to be with his savior on Monday, Oct. 2, 2000. He passed away in Sidney.

He was born on June 10, 1932, in the town of Morris, the son of Rupert P. and Irene (Jordan) Hunt Sr.

He married Doris Blankley on June 10, 1952. She survives.

He spent his childhood in the Morris and Gilbertsville areas. He attended Morris High School.

Rupert is survived by his children, Donald and Julie Hunt of Gilbertsville, Debra and Richard Amick of Warren, Mich., and Daniel Hunt of Gilbertsville; grandchildren, Stacy and Andrew Hunt and Alicia, Matthew and James Amick; brother and sister, Sylvia and James  Johnson of Granville and John and Pat Hunt of Gilbertsville; and several nieces and nephews.

He was a dairy farmer and electrician, water pump installer and a farm material handling systems dealer.

He was councilman for the town of Butternuts.

He was a member of Holmesville Baptist Church, where he was a Sunday school teacher and a deacon for 30 years.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000, at 11 a.m. at the Holmesville Baptist Church, South New Berlin, with the Rev. Romeyn Kipp, pastor of the Holmesville Baptist Church, officiating.

Calling hours will be Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000, from 10 to 11 a.m. preceding the funeral at the Holmesville Baptist Church, South New Berlin. Interment will be held at the Butternut Valley Cemetery at Copes Corners.

Memorial donations may be made to the Gilbertsville Emergency Squad or the Holmesville Baptist Church.

Funeral arrangements are by the Dakin Funeral Home, New Berlin.

Jennie I. Saville

LAFAYETTE — Mrs. Jennie Irene Saville, 90, of 2518 LaFayette Road, LaFayette, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000, at Crouse Irving Hospital.

Born in Skaneateles, she was the daughter of the late Wesley and Mina Alexander Hares.

Mrs. Saville was a cook and baker for Hunter's Diner for 35 years, retiring in 1970. She attended LaFayette Alliance Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Pearl Coon (Fred) of East Genoa and Jane  Taylor (the Rev. John) of LaFayette; three sons, Gerald Saville (Ruth) of Genoa, George Saville of Maryland and Harry Saville (Sharon) of Auburn; three brothers, Lou Hares (Ruth) of Auburn, Bill Hares (Virginia) of Union Springs and Ray Hares of Auburn; three sisters, Evelyn Finch (Allan) of Auburn, Lillian Widger of Homer and Jean Sherman (Claire) of San Marcos,  Calif.; a daughter-in-law, Betty Saville of Venice Center; 25 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and many great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by five brothers, a sister and by her son, Harold Saville.

Visiting hours will be Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, from 10 a.m. to noon at Langham Funeral Home, 75 East Genesee St., Auburn. Funeral services will be held at noon at the funeral home after the two-hour visitation. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Skaneateles.

In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to the LaFayette Alliance Church, 6069 Cherry Valley Turnpike, LaFayette, N.Y., in her memory.

Doris L. Fusscas

NORTH PALM BEACH, Fla. — Mrs. Doris Lawrence Fusscas of North Palm Beach, Fla., and formerly of Roxbury, N.Y., died Friday, Sept. 22, 2000. She was 87 years of age. Doris passed away after a brief illness. With her at the time was her son.

Doris Lawrence Fusscas was born at home in Vega, N.Y., on March 26, 1913, to George B. and Nettie Ford Lawrence. Her parents were dairy farmers who settled in Vega at the turn of the century. Her father, George Lawrence, built the barn, cleared the fields and helped build the road bearing his name that passes by their old farm house in Vega Valley.

Doris Lawrence graduated from Roxbury Central School in 1932 and attended Brooklyn Nursing School.

She was a devoted mother, wife and homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Jim Fusscas of New York City. Also surviving her are her three children, Peter Fusscas of Palm City, Fla., Diane Flood of Roxbury, Conn., and Anita Foster of Las Vegas, Nev.; her 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren with another two great-grandchildren on the way.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000, at 11 a.m. at the Miller Funeral Home, Main Street, Roxbury, N.Y. All family and friends are welcome.

Anne McDonough

COOPERSTOWN — Anne Regnier McDonough, formerly of 27 Nelson Ave., died peacefully Aug. 17, 2000, in Durham, N.C.

She was born in 1909, in Ryder, N.D., where her family had homesteaded.

In 1937, she married the late Charles J. McDonough.

Raised in North Dakota, she received degrees from Valley City and North Dakota State. She then began a career in teaching, later attending the University of Minnesota, where she met her future husband who was a native of Buffalo.

Following their marriage, they first lived in Buffalo where their first two children were born and then in Louisville, Ky., where their third child was born.

After World War II, they moved to Cooperstown where they opened a Ford dealership, McDonough Motors. While living in Bowerstown, their last two children were born. All the children attended Cooperstown Central School.

After all Mrs. McDonough's children were in school, she furthered her education, receiving a degree from the State University College at Oneonta and continued her teaching career at the school in Schuyler Lake.

Following her retirement in Cooperstown, after a total of 20 years in the education field, she taught piano lessons, was active in her church community at St. Mary's Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church and was a volunteer at Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital until she was well into her 80s.

Mrs. McDonough had wintered in Durham for the past 15 years and had been a resident at the Kirk Road Family Care Home there since March 1999.

She is survived by her beloved children and their spouses, Michael and Pandy, Dennis, Kathleen and Jean Paul, Mary Ellen and Russell and Timothy and Holly; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many other family members and friends who will greatly miss her.

A memorial Mass will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000, at St. Mary's Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Cooperstown, with the Rev. John R. Sise officiating. After the Mass there will be a time of fellowship with Mrs. McDonough's family at St. Mary's Parish Center.

Expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial gifts may be made to Maryknoll, care of St. Mary's Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 31 Elm St., Cooperstown, N.Y. 13326.

Elmer J. Rein

CHARLOTTEVILLE — Elmer J. Rein, 71, of Charlotteville Road, died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000, at his residence after being stricken.

Mr. Rein was born Aug. 27, 1929, in Irvington, N.J., the son of Otto and Hazel (Nothnagel) Rein.

Mr. Rein moved to Worcester in 1984 from Liberty Corner, N.J., where he resided most of his life.

He retired from the Carpenter's Union Local 455 of Summerville, N.J. Mr. Rein worked part time for the Bernards Township Sewage Authority.

He was a former fire chief for the Liberty Corner Fire Department and also served on the Policemens' Auxiliary.

Mr. Rein was a United States Army Veteran, serving from 1951 to 1953.

His wife, Shirley (Erhard) Rein, predeceased him on Oct. 3, 1999.

Survivors include four sons, David Rein of Bear, Del., William Rein of Flemington, N.J., Peter Rein of Hickory, N.C., and Michael Rein of Exmore, Va.; a stepdaughter, Linda Waldruff of Liberty Corner, N.J.; a stepson, David Lounsbury of Liberty Corner, N.J.; grandchildren, Michael and Margaret Rein, both of Bear, Del.; and a step-grandson, Herbie Waldruff of Liberty Corner, N.J.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000, at the Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 68 Elm St., Cobleskill. Officiating will be the Rev. Robert Deugan of the First Summit Baptist Church of Charlotteville. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 6.

Burial will be in the Charlotteville Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Worcester and East Worcester Rescue Squad, 10 Church St., Worcester, N.Y. 12197.
