Douglas W. Wright

UNADILLA — Douglas W. Wright Sr., 47, of Unadilla, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001, at The Hospital in Sidney.

He was born June 14, 1954, in Bainbridge, the son of James and Hattie (Dean) Wright.

He was married to Vickie L. Viele on Sept. 21, 1985, in Sidney.

Doug was a lifelong Unadilla resident and a self-employed building contractor.

He was a member of the Unadilla Rod and Gun Club.

Doug is survived by his wife, Vickie of Unadilla; his mother, Hattie Wright of Unadilla; his sons, Douglas Wright, Jamie Wright and Bobby Colvin, all of Unadilla; his daughters and a son-in-law, Tina and Keith Hendrickson of Whitehouse Station, N.J., Toni Wright and Shannon Colvin, both of Unadilla; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Jim and Mary Wright of Unadilla, Dave and Stephanie Wright of Unadilla, Ron and Janet Wright of Mount Upton, Mike and Judy Wright of Unadilla, Roger and Pam Wright of Unadilla, Phillip Wright of Unadilla, Dwayne and Evon of Sidney, Dick and Bev Wright of Walton; his sisters and a son-in-law, Marie Livingston of Unadilla, Francine Wright of Sidney, Jackie and Wayne Lambrecht of Sidney, Betty Polaski of Long Island and Pat Wright of Greene; his grandchildren, Jasmine and Allyssa Wright; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his father, James Wright; and a brother, John Wright.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2001, in Evergreen Hill Cemetery, Unadilla.

There will be no calling hours.

Funeral arrangements are by the Westcott Funeral Home, Unadilla.

Francis Stevens

SCHENEVUS — Francis A. "Pete" Stevens, 73, passed away Saturday, Oct. 12, 2001, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.

He was born on Nov. 29, 1927, in Maryland, the son of Claude and Nina (Strobeck) Stevens.

Pete attended school in Worcester and Maryland.

He married Belva "Billie" Butler on Dec. 4, 1948.

He farmed in Chaseville until 1963. He was then a truck driver for Unadilla Silo Co. for 29 years. He retired in 1987.

Pete and Billie had four children, Rosemary Stevens of Tacoma, Wash., Garry Stevens of Morris, Bonnie Gaston of Maryland and Connie TerBush of Schenevus.

He and his wife enjoyed traveling and seeing new places. He enjoyed many trips in fifth 5th wheel camper with sister and brother-in-law, Marion and Harry Roe, and longtime friends, Dot and Dewey Loft.

He liked the simple things in life and was a friend to all. He doted on his grandchildren, Bret and Bradley Stevens, Jennifer, Sarah and Renee Gaston and Renae and Becky TerBush. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be missed by many.

He is also survived by his wife, Billie; sister, Audrey McCann; brother-in-law, Harry Roe; daughter, Rosemary; son, Garry and Teri Stevens; daughter, Bonnie and Scott Gaston; and daughter, Connie and Craig TerBush.

He was predeceased by his sister, Marion Roe.

There will be no calling hours.

A graveside service will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2001, at the Maple Grove Cemetery, Worcester, with the Rev. Judith A. Thistle, chaplain at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to the Schenevus United Methodist Church, Main Street, Schenevus or to the Schenevus-Maryland Emergency Squad, 105 county Highway 34, Schenevus, NY 12155.

Funeral arrangements are by Heller Funeral Home, 25 Arch St., Schenevus.

David Ulmer

TREADWELL — David Ulmer, 49, of Treadwell, passed away Friday, Oct. 12, 2001, at his home.

He was born April 21, 1952, in Delhi, the son of Walter and Henrietta (Mein) Ulmer.

He married Sharon Hogan on Aug. 6, 1972, in Delhi.

He was a lifelong area resident, and was an avid fisherman, hunter and trapper.

David was a bus driver for the Delhi Central School District for the past several years. He was also a caretaker at the Croton Union Cemetery in Treadwell.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon Ulmer of Treadwell; his two children, James of Portlandville and Jessica of Treadwell; his mother, Henrietta Ulmer of Treadwell; two brothers and their spouses, Leon and Paula Ulmer of Treadwell and Steven and Evelyn Ulmer of Treadwell; several nieces and nephews; great-nephews and a great-niece.

Also surviving are his aunt, Shirley, and uncle, Bill; and cousins, Mark Borden and Bonnie Scribner.

A graveside memorial service will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2001, at noon in the Croton Union Cemetery, Treadwell, with the Rev. George Goodwin officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, NY 13820.

Arrangements are by the Kenneth L. Bennett Funeral Home, Franklin.

Ruby Belle Foote

MORRIS — Ruby Belle Foote, 93, of Morris, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2001, at the Franklin home in South New Berlin, where she had been living for the past few years.

She was born in Morris on Oct. 10, 1908, the daughter of Albert M. Pickens and Mae Hattie (Martin) Pickens.

She was married to Stanley S. Foote on Aug. 18, 1927. He died Dec. 29, 1971.

She had been employed by the H. W. Naylor Co. for more than 16 years and was a lifelong Morris resident.

She was a longtime member of the Louisville Grange and had attended the United Methodist Church of Morris for many years.

She is survived by her two sons, Roger Foote and his wife, Linda, of New Berlin and Neil Foote and his wife, Marcia, of Morris; her sister, Claudine Stafford of Morris; her brother, Harold Pickens of Oneonta; several grandchildren; and great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also survived by two daughters-in-law, Joyce Foote of Morris and Janice Foote of Bridgewater; and a son-in-law, Marvin Johnston of Hamilton, Ohio.

A daughter, Dorothy Johnston; and two sons, Donald Foote and Robert (Dutch) Foote; predeceased her.

Calling hours will be Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2001, at the Johnston Funeral Home in Morris from 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2001, at the United Methodist Church in Morris at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Patricia Olmstead and the Rev. Joseph Fiske officiating. Committal services and interment will follow in the Hillington Cemetery in Morris.

In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to donate to the United Methodist Church of Morris in her memory.

Funeral arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home of Morris.

Ernest Blanchard

WORCESTER — Ernest Blanchard Sr., 70, of Worcester, passed away Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.

He was born Oct. 3, 1931, in Bellingham, Mass., the son of Wilfred and Pauline (Loya) Blanchard.

Ernie was currently working as a groundskeeper at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Worcester.

He was previously the superintendent of the Decatur Highway Department for 25 years and was also employed by the Town of Worcester Highway Department for five years.

He was a member of the East Worcester Fish and Game Club.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; his children, Beatrice Proper of Roseboom, Bonnie Knapp of Worcester, Bridgette and husband, Rick, West of Worcester, Ernest and wife, Misty, Blanchard of Schenevus and Bob and wife, Cindy, Blanchard of Schenevus; grandchildren, Lucy, Holly, Jason, Jennifer, Jackie, Katie, Sean, John, Chris, Ernie, Keith, Robert, Kyle and Robbie; stepchildren, Sandy Dickson, Christina Lott, Nancy Rigley and Dave Horton; several stepgrandchildren; his brothers and sisters, Louis and wife, Carol, Blanchard of Worcester, Francis and wife, Barbara, Blanchard of Decatur, Theresa and husband, Mike, Morrin of Woonsocket, R.I., Karol Corba of Massachusetts, Patsey and husband, Tom, Skaggs of Virginia, Karen Huard of Massachusetts, and Diane Blanchard of Taunton, Mass.; sister-in-law, Beverly Blanchard of Norton, Mass.; stepmother, Barbara Blanchard of Taunton, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two sons; a daughter; a sister, Lorraine Coger of Tennessee; and two brothers, Joseph Blanchard of Massachusetts and Wilfred Blanchard of Rhode Island.

Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2001, at the E.J. Skinner Co. Funeral Chapel in Worcester.

The funeral service will at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2001, at the funeral chapel, with the Rev. Judith A. Thistle, chaplain at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, officiating.

At Ernie's request, cremation will follow the funeral service and the burial will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery in Worcester at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Ernie to the Maple Grove Cemetery, P.O. Box 164, Worcester or the Worcester Emergency Squad, P.O. Box 191, Worcester, NY 12197.

Funeral arrangements are by E.J. Skinner Co., 155 Main St., Worcester.

Margaret S. Hust

UNADILLA — A memorial service for Margaret S. Hust, who passed away July 21, 2001, will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Oct. 19, 2001, at the Unadilla United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Kip Stratton, pastor, officiating.

Arrangements are by the Westcott Funeral Home, Unadilla.

Joyce Finch

BAINBRIDGE — Joyce Finch, 55, of Bainbridge, formerly of Oneonta, died Monday morning, Oct. 15, 2001, at The Hospital in Sidney.

She was born Sept. 7, 1946, in New York City, the daughter of Sheldon E. and Pearl (Taylor) Fitch.

She married Orion Finch on Aug. 13, 1966. He died April 22, 1992.

Joyce was a homemaker and had lived on Swart Hollow Road, Oneonta, until 1992, when she moved to Bainbridge.

Over the years she enjoyed collecting items with wolves on them.

Joyce is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Melanie and Chris Decker Sr. of Bainbridge; two brothers, Dennis and Roy Fitch, both of Binghamton; one sister, Pat Rawel of  Pennsylvania; a sister-in-law, Ednea Pettis of Binghamton; one granddaughter, Stepthfanie Decker; and four grandsons, Edward Fitch, Chris L. Decker Jr., Jeremy Decker and Casey Decker, all of Bainbridge. She also is survived by several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her brother, Sheldon E. Fitch Jr.; and sister, Beatrice Fitch.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001, from the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Royal Mattoon, pastor of the Wesleyan Church, Southside Oneonta, officiating.

Friends may call on Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001, from 12:30 p.m. to service time at the Bookhout Funeral Home in Oneonta, when the family will be present. Burial will be in the West Oneonta Cemetery in West Oneonta.

A family reception will be held at the Moose Lodge, West Broadway, Oneonta, on Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001, following the interment at the cemetery. Everyone is asked to bring a dish to pass.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Homes, Oneonta and Otego.

Melvin J. Wayman

WESTFORD — Mr. Melvin J. Wayman Sr., 86, died Sunday evening, Oct. 14, 2001, at his son's home in Westford, with his family at his side.

He was born in East Branch on Dec. 26, 1914, a son of Albert and Elsie (Coleman) Wayman.

Mr. Wayman has been living in the Cooperstown area for more than 50 years.

He was employed by the village of Milford for 17 years as well as pursuing farming and logging.

Melvin enjoyed watching and collecting western movies, listening to country music, truck pulling contests, was an avid baseball fan and enjoyed rodeos.

He is survived by one daughter, Theresa Short of Maryland; four sons, Homer Wayman of Oneonta, Danny and Charlie Wayman of Westford and Ricky Hall of Unadilla; a stepson, Bobby Joe Dagner of Oneonta; his wife, Bonnie Wayman of Springfield; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and the mother of his children, Wanda Pierce Tiffany.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2001, at noon at the Tillapaugh Funeral Home in Cooperstown, with the Rev. John Young officiating. Burial will follow in the Westford Cemetery.

Calling hours will be on Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2001, from 11 a.m. to noon at the Tillapaugh Funeral Home in Cooperstown, when the family will be in attendance.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial contributions may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care Inc., 542 Main St., Oneonta, NY 13820.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford.

Peter Tessitore

SCHENEVUS — Peter Tessitore, 88, passed away Sunday, Oct. 14, 2001, at The Meadows in Middlefield.

He was born Feb. 7, 1913, in Schenevus, the son of Joseph and Anna (Stellata) Tessitore.

Mr. Tessitore was employed with Borden's Milk Plant in Schenevus and was a former member of the C.H. Graham Hose Co. in Schenevus.

Mr. Tessitore was predeceased by his wife, Gladys Miller, in 1986; a daughter, Anna Paris; and a son, Burton Tessitore.

He is survived by a daughter, Margaret and Glen Spear of San Marcos,  Calif.; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Ann Catanzo of Boston, Mass.; two brothers, Carl and Virginia Tessitore of Schenevus and Joseph and Virginia Tessitore of Oneonta; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Frances Hawver of Schenevus.

Calling hours will be held at 10 a.m. till the funeral service time at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 19, 2001, at the Heller Funeral Home in Schenevus, with the Rev. Edward Golding, pastor at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, officiating.

Burial will follow at the Schenevus Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the charity of one's choice.

Funeral arrangements are by Heller Funeral Home at 25 Arch St. in Schenevus.

Emanuel Danzi

PLEASANTVILLE — Emanuel (Mel) J. Danzi, 89, of Pleasantville, passed away Oct. 9, 2001, at Cedar Manor Nursing Home.

He was born Nov. 29, 1911, in Oneonta, and attended Oneonta schools.

He worked at the Palace Cigar Store previously to entering the Army in World War II.

He was predeceased by his parents, Antonio and Donata (Civita) Danzi of Oneonta; and brothers, Joseph, Vito, Kenneth, Michael and Rocco.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Elizabeth (DeGrazio); his sons, Edward and Thomas; his sister, Mary Birdsall; and brothers, Carl and Otto Danzi of Oneonta.

Funeral arrangements were made by the Beecher Funeral Home for his burial in All Souls Cemetery in Pleasantville.

Bertha Lindberg

BURLINGTON — Bertha Marie Lindberg, 95, of Burlington, passed away Monday, Oct. 15, 2001, at Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown.

She was born in Brooklyn on Sept. 8, 1906, the daughter of Alfred Mervin Kneessy and Lena (Scheidel) Kneessy.

She married Carl G. Lindberg in October 1928, in Brooklyn. He died May 7, 1958.

Before her retirement she had worked as a secretary in the maintenance department at M.I. Bassett Hospital.

Bertha was well known for her love of singing and had been active in area choirs and at one time had sang in several opera productions in the Metropolitan New York area.

She was a member of the Criterion Club of Cooperstown and the Eastern Star of Cooperstown. She was a member of the old Burlington Grange #1322, member of the Good Neighbors Club, the Burlington Quilters Club, a member of the First Baptist Church of Burlington for more than 50 years and had served as secretary of the Burlington Green Cemetery Association at one time.

She is survived by two children, a daughter, Elaine Bolton of Fly Creek and her children, Darlene and Alan Hazen of Coral Springs, Fla., Susan Bolton of Aurora of Colorado, Albert Bolton of Westminster,  Colo., Wendy and Rich Splan of Louisville, Ky., Lori and Master Sgt. (USAF) Mark Gengenbach of Havre-de-grace, Md.; a son, Carl (Bud) Lindberg and his wife, Carolyn, of Burlington and their children, Carl Lindberg Jr. and Paula of Oriskany Falls, JoAnn and Robert VanVranken of Edmeston, LuAnn and Brian Flint of Queensbury, Eric and Sylvia Lindberg of Burlington, and Neil Lindberg of Burlington. Bertha is also survived by 13 great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandsons.

She was predeceased by a son-in-law, Albert Bolton.

Calling hours will be held Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001, at the Johnston Funeral Home in Morris, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 19, 2001, at 2 p.m. in the First Baptist Church of Burlington, with the Rev. John Young officiating. Committal services will follow in the Burlington Green Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to make contributions to the Edmeston Emergency Squad or the First Baptist Church of Burlington in her memory.

Funeral arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home of Morris.
