Linnea Mattson

DOWNSVILLE — Linnea Mattson, 96, of Downsville, passed away Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, at the Countryside Care Center in Delhi.

She was born on March 25, 1906, the daughter of Eric and Maria (Augusta-Berg) Johnson, in Duluth, Minn.

She had been a resident of this community for the past 60 years. She married Harold R. Mattson on Sept. 5, 1926, on Staten Island. He predeceased her in September 1990.

She was a housewife. She was a member of the Colchester Community Church for more than 50 years. She was also a longtime member of the Pepacton Grange.

She is survived by one son, Harold L. Mattson and his wife, Ellen, of Downsville; one brother, Carl  Johnson of Walton; one sister, Elsie Hood of Hamden; six grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002, at the Colchester Community Church, Downsville, with the Rev. Joseph L. Upole, of the church, officiating.

Interment will be in Paige Cemetery, Downsville.

Friends may call today, Nov. 11, 2002, at the Knorr Funeral Home, Downsville. The family will be in attendance from 7 to 9 p.m.

Friends may make contributions to the Colchester Community Church in her memory.

Arrangements are by the Knorr Funeral Home, Downsville.

Lena N. Jorgensen

MARYLAND — Mrs. Lena N. Jorgensen, 82, passed away Nov. 9, 2002, at her home.

She was born on March 18, 1920, in Unadilla, the daughter of Tauvle G. and Lena F. (Fisk) Nichols.

On Oct. 10, 1938, she married Marius M. Jorgensen in Davenport. He predeceased her on July 15, 1998.

Mrs. Jorgensen lived in the area for 51 years and was a seamstress and homemaker. She enjoyed reading, sewing, her family and especially her little dog "Chrissy."

She is survived by a son, Robert M. Jorgensen Sr., of Maryland; daughters, Gwendolyn A. Laing of Bristol, Ind., Nancy L. and her husband, Edward, Doty of Edwardsburg, Mich., Carol L. and her husband, Conrad, Boglioli of Maryland, Sue and her husband, Charlie, Mann of Mount Vision; 18 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marjorie Kelsey of Oneonta; and sisters-in-law, Mrs. Ester Bordinger and Mrs. Ruth Manley, both of Oneonta.

Besides her husband, Marius, she is predeceased by a son, Thomas M. Jorgensen Sr., on July 17, 2002; granddaughter, Pamela A. Jorgensen on Sept. 1, 1976; grandson, Richard C. Tripp Jr. on April 25, 1960; brothers, Donald Nichols, Charles Nichols; and a sister, Kalma Wellman.

Cremation took place at the Leatherstocking Crematory Inc., Cherry Valley, and private services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Contributions in Mrs. Jorgensen's memory may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

Ronald Gladstone

MAHWAH, N.J. — Ronald L. Gladstone, 59, passed away on Nov. 7, 2002.

He lived in Mahwah, N.J., since 1955, and was formerly of Morris.

He was the beloved son of Doris (Eldred) Gladstone of Mahwah, and the late Kenneth P. Gladstone (1991). He was the loving brother of Beverly Broer of Hackettstown, N.J., Darlene Gladstone of Hackettstown, N.J., Richard Gladstone of Lovingston, Va., and Bruce G. Gladstone of Westfield, N.J. He was the adored uncle of Nicki and Christine. He is also survived by two grandnephews; and one grandniece.

Ronald worked for Shop Rite in Ramsey, Allen Bacon in Rockleigh, N.J., and Mahrapo Farms in Mahwah.

Visitation was held on Sunday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Van Emburgh-Sneider Funeral Home, 109 Darlington Ave., Ramsey, N.J.

A funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. today, Nov. 11, 2002, at the funeral home. Interment to follow at Maryrest Cemetery, Mahwah, N.J.

Theresa Hartman

LATHAM — Theresa Rose Hartman, 96, of Latham, died Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, at Our Lady of Hope Residence, Latham, after a brief illness.

She was the widow of Ludwig Hartman, who died in 1988.

Born and educated in Durmersheim, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Wilhelm and Hermine Webecher Heck.

Mrs. Hartman lived in Milwaukee, Wis., then Wilkes-Barre, Pa., until moving to Oneonta in 1936. She moved to Latham in 1984, and she had lived there since.

Mrs. Hartman was a communicant of St. Ambrose Church. She attended Our Lady of Hope day program, starting in 1986, and became a resident there in 1994.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Armand Langevin, Cohoes, N.Y.; three grandchildren and their spouses, Michele and Peter Wistort, Mark and Amy Langevin and Michael and Susan Langevin; five great-grandchildren, Zackery, Hannah and Sarah Wistort, and Jeremy and Molly Langevin.

She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Marlene Langevin; and two sisters, Johanna Richer and Helene Ring.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at our Lady of Hope, 1 Jeanne Jugan Drive, Latham. Friends are invited and may call from 9 to 10:30 a.m. today prior to the service.

Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.

Contributions in her memory may be made to Little Sisters of the Poor, 1 Jeanne Jugan Lane, Latham, N.Y. 12110.

Annette L. Colone

ONEONTA — Annette Louise Colone, 35, of Oneonta passed away unexpectedly Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002, at her home.

Born Dec. 5, 1966, in Oneonta, the daughter of Philip and Jeanette Colone, she spent most of her life as an active member of the Oneonta business and social community.

Ms. Colone was the owner and operator of The Cottage Day Spa in Oneonta for more than seven years.

She received a degree from Cobleskill College and was a member of the graduating class of 1985 at Oneonta High School.

Ms. Colone was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church and was also actively involved with the Oneonta High School Alumni Association

A loving and devoted mother, daughter and sister; she is survived by her daughter,  Taylor Louise; her parents, Philip and Jeanette Colone; sisters, Gina Colone and her husband, Marc Spaziani, Lori (Colone) Dower and her husband, Edward Dower, of Oneonta, and Patricia Colone and her husband, Todd Ringler, of Swampscott, Mass.

She is also survived by nieces and nephews, Amelia and Mitchell Spaziani, Hayley, Delancy and Nicholas Dower of Oneonta and Benjamin Ringler of Swampscott, Mass.; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Ms. Colone is also survived by  Taylor Louise's father, Frank Microni of Oneonta.

A beautiful, caring and vivacious person, Annette was dearly loved by her family and friends. Her good nature, humor and affection for others will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Oneonta, on Thursday, Nov. 14, 2002. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002, at the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, when the family will be in attendance.

Funeral arrangements are by the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta.

Robert James Hill

GILBERTSVILLE — Robert James Hill, 77, of Gilbertsville, died Sunday, Nov. 10, 2002, at the Chase Memorial Nursing Home in New Berlin.

He was born in the town of Butternuts on April 26, 1925, the son of Harold and Sarah (Olmstead) Hill.

He was married to Esther Lamphere in the Presbyterian Church in Gilbertsville on Jan. 6, 1944, a marriage of more than 58 years.

He had worked at the G.L.A. of Norwich for 15 years and then operated his own dairy farm from 1961 until his retirement in 1986.

He was a member of the Butternuts Valley Grange, No. 1533; the Butternuts Lodge, # No. 515 F.&A.M.; Otsego County Farm Bureau; an honorary member of the Klipnockie Beagle Club.

He had served as a director of the R.E.A. for 25 years; past president and member of the Gilbertsville Board of Education; past member of the Holstein Friesian Association; past adviser of the Otsego County Junior Holstein Club; a past member of the town of Butternuts Planning Board; dog Enumerator for the town of Butternuts; Gilbertsville Rod & Gun Club; and the Dairymen's League.

He is survived by his wife, Esther, of Gilbertsville; his children, Susan Pochy and her husband, James, and their son, James, Dennis Hill and his son, Jason, and daughter, Ashley, Michael Hill and his wife, Barbara, and their children and spouses, Amy Proskine and husband, Zachary, Benjamin Hill, Crystal Michaud and husband, Travis, and Patrick Hill; three great-grandchildren, Lauren Hill, Garrett Proskine and Hunter Michaud. He is also survived by a brother, Royce Hill and his wife, Darlene; two sisters-in-law, Ethyle Canada and Helen Quinn; a brother-in-law, Lewis Lamphere; an aunt, Marion Lilley; and also several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A granddaughter, Katelyn Hill, predeceased him.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 15, 2002, at the Presbyterian Church of Gilbertsville, with the Rev. Dr. Donald Boardman officiating. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time at the church on Friday.

Committal services and burial will be in the Brookside Cemetery in Gilbertsville.

Friends are asked to make donations to the Alzheimer's Association or Chase Nursing Home in his memory.

Funeral arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home of Morris.

Ray D. Sheldon

SIDNEY — Ray D. Sheldon, 89, died on Monday, Nov. 11, 2002, at the Oneonta Nursing Home.

He is survived by his wife, E. Belle (Peg), a loving family of children, grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 14, 2002, at the First Baptist Church, Sidney.

Friends may call Wednesday; the family will be in attendance from 6 to 8 p.m. at the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney.

He will be buried in Roosevelt Cemetery near Central Square at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Mr. Sheldon was born July 7, 1913, to Clara and Burke J. Sheldon.

He graduated as valedictorian in 1931 from Central Square High School. He returned there to teach from 1935 to 1940 after graduating from State University College at Oswego, with a degree in Industrial Arts and Elementary School Education. He did graduate work at SUC Oswego, New York University and Syracuse University. He taught at Haldane Central School in Cold Spring, prior to moving to Sidney, where he taught for 30 years.

He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, Sidney, where he served as Sunday School teacher and superintendent, and as a member and chairman of the Board of Deacons.

Mr. Sheldon served as a Boy Scout leader, a longtime adviser to high school Student Council and the Foreign Student Exchange program, a hospital and library volunteer and a member of the Town of Sidney Planning Board.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, E. Belle (Peg) Sheldon; son Stuart, wife, Carol, and children, Bethany and Mark.; son R. Douglas, wife, Eileen, and children, R. Douglas Sheldon Jr., Kirsten and Alexandra; and daughter, Christina Rae Thayer and children, J. Peter, Matthew and Christal Rae. He is also survived by his very special Romanian-born family, John and Elena Spinu and children.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Sidney.

Georgia Lee Kuhn

GILBERTSVILLE — Georgia Lee Kuhn, 49, of Binghamton, formerly of Norwich, and in her childhood she lived in Gilbertsville, passed away Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.

She was born on Sept. 4, 1953, in Sidney, the daughter of George and Patricia (Colyer) Kuhn.

She was married to William Demun. She was a registered nurse having worked at Chenango Memorial Hospital, Norwich, A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta, Lourdes Hospital, Binghamton, and Kimberly Quality Care of Oneonta.

She is survived by her mother, Patricia Colyer, of Maple Grove; two sons, Mark Demun of Garner, N.C., and Aaron Demun of Fort Sill, Okla.; three sisters, Patricia Dibble and husband, Ed, of Gilbertsville, Edna Grabo and husband, Leonard, of Maple Grove, and Peggy Fisher and husband, Jim, of Oneonta; three brothers, Pete Kuhn of Oneonta, Gordon Kuhn and wife, Debbie, of Laurens, and Gerald Kuhn and wife, Gail, of Ridgeland, N.C.; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Her father, George Kuhn, predeceased her.

Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002, at the Johnston Funeral Home, 60 Broad St., Morris.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002, at the Presbyterian Church in Gilbertsville, with the Rev. Dr. Donald Boardman officiating. Committal services and burial will follow in the Brookside Cemetery in Gilbertsville.

Those who wish are asked to donate to the Gilbertsville Fire Department or the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta, in her memory.

Funeral arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home of Morris.

Anthony P. Dulkis

MIDDLEFIELD — Anthony P. Dulkis, 90, of The Meadows, went to be with the Lord, Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002, at The Meadows, where he had resided since April 1998.

He was born Antanas Dulkys on Sept. 3, 1912, the son of Anthony and Nellie Dulkys.

Anthony came to the United States in 1938.

He was a tool maker at the Stanley Tool Company in Newark, N.J., for many years.

In 1946, he moved to the Maryland area.

He enjoyed doing carpentry, masonry and also painting. He was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Oneonta.

He is survived by one son, Raymond Dulkis of New Jersey; two grandchildren, Michelle and Michael Dulkis; two sisters, Nellie Dulkis and Josephine Lannan of Spokane, Wash.; as well as several cousins.

Anthony was predeceased by four brothers, Joseph, Stanley, Walter and Alexander Dulkis.

Funeral and committal services will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002, at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with Robert Baltodano, pastor of the Calvary Christian Fellowship, Schenevus, officiating.

Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002, at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.

There will be no calling hours.

It has been requested that in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to The Meadows Resident Activity Fund, in care of Sue Dulkis, P.O. Box 68, Schenevus, NY 12155, in loving memory of Anthony Paul Dulkis.

Lloyd T. Kennedy

MILFORD — Lloyd Terrance Kennedy, "Terry" as he was known to his family and friends, went to be with his Lord, on Nov. 9, 2002, at Bassett Healthcare after a lengthy illness.

He was predeceased by his loving mother, Mildred Newell Kennedy on Feb. 24, 1999.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford.

Elmo B. Barden

ONEONTA — Elmo Briggs Barden Sr., 93, formerly of Corning, died Sunday, Nov. 10, 2002, at the Oneonta Nursing Home.

He was born Nov. 26, 1908, in Van Etten, the son of Clayton and Maude (Briggs) Barden.

He was married to Celia Barden, who died May 17, 2000.

He had been employed by Cobaco of Corning and also Food Mart of Corning in the bakery and deli department for many years.

He served his country in the United States Army during World War II, serving in the European Theater of Operations.

He is survived by a daughter, Louise Crone of Breezie Port; two sons, Ralph Barden of Florida, and Elmo (Al) Barden Jr., and his wife, Carolyn, of Morris; 11 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Graveside memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 15, 2002, in the Barnard Cemetery, South Corning.

Friends are asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the A.S.P.C.A. of either the Steuben County or Otsego County.

Arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home of Morris.

Elizabeth McAdams

DAVENPORT — Graveside services for Elizabeth "Bessie" McAdams, 81, of Davenport, who died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002, will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2002, at Ouleout Cemetery, Franklin, with the Rev. Ripley of Northfield Community Church officiating.

The family will greet friends at the Northfield Community Church after the service, and refreshments will be served.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Davenport.
