ANNIE CATHERINE TANKS
ANNIE CATHERINE TANKS, 92, of Hickory Street, Martins Ferry, Ohio died Wednesday, May 12, 2004 at Ohio Valley Medical Center, Wheeling, W. Va.
Miss Tanks was born in Punxsutawney, Pa. on March 25, 1912, a daughter of the late David L. and Annie M. (Cromley) Tanks.
She was a retired librarian at Martins Ferry High School and a member of the Martins Ferry Historical Society.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Tanks and Lois Poling.
She is survived by one brother, Norman B. Tanks, Staunton, Va.; two nephews, David L. Tanks and his wife Martha of Verona, Va. and Roger D. Tanks and his wife, Jean of St. Augustine, Fl.; two great nephews, Eric D. Tanks of Harrisonburg, Va. and Chris Byatt of St. Augustine, Fl.
Funeral services were held at the funeral home Friday, May 14, 2004 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Joseph Sanders officiating.
Interment followed in Riverview Cemetery, Martins Ferry.

CONNIE J. KUNZE
CONNIE J. KUNZE, 42, of So. Zane Highway, Martins Ferry, Ohio died Tuesday, May 25, 2004 at her residence.
Connie was born in Bellaire, Ohio on November 23, 1961, a daughter of Jack G. Shreve Sr. and Merrel L. (Green) Kidder, both of Neffs, Ohio.
She was employed as a crew leader at Ziegenfelder Ice Cream Co. of Wheeling, W. Va. for five years.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Timothy D. Shreve.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Donald Kunze Jr.; a daughter, Sherry L. wife of Trampas Schramm, St. Clairsville, Ohio; a son, Brian T. Palmer, Martins Ferry; brother, Jack, husband of Candy Shreve Jr., Akron, Ohio; two sisters, Brenda S. wife of Robert Angus, Shadyside, Ohio and Merrel E. Shreve, Neffs, Ohio; two grandchildren, Cory Jacob A. Schramm and Courtney L. Schramm both of St. Clairsville, Ohio.
Funeral services were held at the funeral home Sunday, May 30, 2004 at 7 p.m.
Interment will be held at the convenience of the family.

MARY E. MITCHELL
MARY E. MITCHELL, 87, formerly of N. 5th Street, Martins Ferry, Ohio died Friday, May 28, 2004 at East Ohio Regional Long Term Care, Martins Ferry.
She was born in Maynard, Ohio on November 1, 1916, a daughter of the late Michael and Eva (Chernik) Bailer.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the St. Mary's Catholic Daughters Of America, Martins Ferry and a retired employee of Wheeling Corrugating, Wheeling, W. Va.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen J. Mitchell in 1991; three brothers, Michael, Peter and Andrew Bailer and two sisters, Wanda Bailer and Stella Syty.
She is survived by one son, Stephen C. husband of Martha Mitchell, West Chester, Ohio; one daughter, Melanie G. wife of Greg Bromelow, Colerain, Ohio; sister, Helen Theil, Martins Ferry, Ohio; grandson, Derek husband of Natalie Lampert, St. Clairsville, Ohio; two granddaughters, Lisa wife of Steve Muller, Dayton, Ohio and Tara wife of Geoff Armstrong, West Chester, Ohio; two great grandsons, Tyler and Kyle Muller, Dayton, Ohio.
Funeral Liturgy with Mass was celebrated Tuesday, June 1, 2004 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Martins Ferry at 1:30 p.m with Rev. Thomas Magary as the celebrant. Interment followed in St. Mary's Cemetery, Martins Ferry.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Daughters Of America, 20 N. 4th Street, Martins Ferry, Ohio 43935.

ARTHUR SCHWENDER
ARTHUR SCHWENDER, 74, of Mt. Wood Road, Wheeling, W. Va., died Friday, June 4, 2004 at Peterson Hospital, Wheeling, W. Va.
He was born in Martins Ferry, Ohio on November 14, 1929, a son of the late Ebbert and Rosealtha (Donley) Schwender.
He was a retired electrician at Ohio Ferro Alloy, Brilliant, Ohio and a member of the 700 Club.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Edwin, Harold and Eugene Schwender.
He is survived by his wife Hazel (LaRue) Schwender; three sons, Arthur D. Schwender, Lake Wales, Fl.; Robert (Herbie) (Cheryl) Schwender, Neffs, Ohio; Ralph Schwender, Jacksonville, Fl.; two step sons, Robert (Donna) Riggs, Weirton, W. Va.; Gerald (Pat) Riggs, Stockton, Ca.; two daughters, Deborah (Rob) Murphy, Yorkville, Oh.; Linda (Bob) Mayhugh, Yorkville, Oh.; four sisters, ruth Doughty, Dennison, Oh.; Grace Lannum, Calif.; Evelyn Hartung, Bridgeport, Oh.; Eleanor Bice, Pa. Art is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and 4 step grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the funeral home Tuesday, June 8, 2004 at 11 a.m. Interment followed in Riverview Cemetery, Martins Ferry.

WILLIAM B. BRATTON, JR
WILLIAM B. BRATTON, JR, 63, of So. Huron Street, Wheeling, WVa, died Sunday, October 7, 2007 at his residence.
He was born in Martins Ferry, Ohio on September 9, 1944, son of the late William B. and Margaret (Bryan) Bratton.
He served in the U.S. Air Force, during the Vietname War.
He is survived by a daughter, Pamela J. Neiport, Brunswick, Georgia; son, William R. (Cassandra) Bratton, Elmendorf, Texas and three grandchildren.
Services are private at the convenience of the family.

BERNARD E. POLUGA
BERNARD E. POLUGA, 85, of N. 8th Street, Martins Ferry, Ohio, died Monday, October 29, 2007, at his residence.
He was born in Martins Ferry on July 14, 1922, a son of the late Paul and Catherine (Kusnisz) Poluga.
He was a retired press operator for the former International Harvester of Shadyside, Ohio. He was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church; and a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 1421, both of Martins Ferry. Bernard served in the U. S. Navy during W.W. II.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Chester Poluga.
He is survived by his wife, Olga T. (Smila) Poluga; son, Michael E. (Janet) Poluga, Martins Ferry; daughter, Paula C. (Richard) Gorsuch, Columbus, Ohio; three granddaughters, Tammy Lea Weals, Alison (Jeremy) Young, and Alicia Poluga.
Funeral Liturgy with Mass was celebrated at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Martins Ferry, at 1 p.m. on Thursday, November 1, 2007, with Rev. Thomas A. Magary, as the celebrant.
Mausoleum entombment followed in St. Mary's Cemetery Mausoleum, Martins Ferry.
Rosary was recited Wednesday at 3 follow by Wake service at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Valley Hospice Inc., 132 Peters Run Rd., Wheeling, W. Va. 26003.

SHIRLEY ANN BURCH
SHIRLEY ANN BURCH, 72, formerly of Kuckuck Lane, Martins Ferry, Ohio, died Wednesday, October 31, 2007 at Cumberland Pointe, St. Clairsville, Ohio.
She was born in Martins Ferry, Ohio on November 10, 1934, a daughter of the late John O. and Edith Shirley (Smith) Keller.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer C. Burch.
She is survived by a daughter, Beth Ann McKelvey, Martins Ferry; a brother, John Keller, Piedmont, Ohio; a sister, Patricia Shemenski, Warrington, Pa. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the funeral home Saturday, November 3, 2007 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Thomas A. Magary officiating.
Interment followed in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove, Ohio.

ESTHER ANN SAMUEL
ESTHER ANN SAMUEL, 87, formerly of N. Zane Highway and Dix Addition of Martins Ferry, Ohio died Saturday, November 3, 2007 at Trinity West Medical Center, Steubenville, Ohio.
She was born in Martins Ferry, Ohio on June 3, 1920, the daughter of the late Robert J. and Suzanna (Matthews) Jenkins.
She was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church of Martins Ferry and a former secretary for Dr. Danenburg formerly of Bridgeport, Ohio.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Haydn E. Samuel and a brother, Robert W. Jenkins.
She is survived by two sons, Robert (Catherine) Samuel, Toronto, Ohio and David (Sue) Samuel, Baltimore, Maryland. She is also survived by six grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the funeral home Wednesday, November 7, 2007 at 11 a.m with Rev. William O. Webster, Jr. and Rev. Robert Meyer officiating.
Interment followed in Riverview Cemetery, Martins Ferry.
Bereavement services were held by the Elders of the church Tuesday at 7 p.m.
