Inas E. Mace
Died: Wednesday, March 19, 2003
Age: 93

Inas E. Mace, 93, formerly of 507 S. Washington St., Van Wert, died at 6:45 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, at Vancrest Health Care Center, Van Wert.

She was born Feb. 13, 1909, in Van Wert County, the daughter of the late Ed and Estella (Wolfe) Gardner. On May 24, 1930, she married L. Earl Mace, who preceded her in death in November 1975.

Mrs. Mace taught for a total of 16 years, two years at Union Township School in Van Wert County and 14 years at Spencerville, retiring in 1969.

Survivors include:

Daughters -- Kathryn (Charlie) Wojcik of Fayetteville, Romaine (Merle) Whetstone of Van Wert, Janet (Dick) Homan of Fairfield Glade, Tenn., and Earlene (Ron) Rhodes of Plain City

Brother -- Dwight (Joan) Gardner of Van Wert

Sisters -- Lena Shearer and Esther (Lavon) Warner, both of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Joyce (Jim) Rosendahl of Convoy

Twelve grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren also survive.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Beth Branstetter, and a sister.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 22 at Convoy United Methodist Church, the Revs. Donald Clarke and Paul Miller officiating.

Visitation is one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.

Donald Mox
Died: Wednesday, March 19, 2003
Age: 79

DELPHOS - Donald Mox, 79, died at 10:27 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2003, at Vancrest Health Care Center, Van Wert.

He was born Nov. 2, 1923, in Delphos, the son of the late Clarence E. and Edna P. (Feaster) Mox. On Feb. 1, 1947, he married Ruby Marie Blackmore, who preceded him in death on Jan. 27, 1996.

Mr. Mox, a 1941 graduate of Delphos  Jefferson, was a real estate broker for 30 years, a farmer and raised livestock. He was confirmed at St. Peter's Lutheran Church on May 30, 1937. He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, the Elks, the Lima Moose Club and the Auctioneer & Real Estate Association. He was a charter member of the Delphos FFA, from whom he received an award. He participated in the St. John's festival for many years, served as a livestock auctioneer at Allen and Van Wert County fairs and was the original auctioneer for the Delphos Country Club Calcutta.

Survivors include two sons, Steven A. (Laura) Mox of Rockford and Michael D. (Rose) Mox of Lima; three sisters, Alice Mayer of Elida, Norma (Ted) Koeing of Delphos and Helen (Ted) Gorman of Ottoville; four grandchildren, Crystal Mox, Amy (Josh) Ebling, Amber Mox and Andy Mox, and one great-grandchild, Kale R. Ebling.

He was preceded in death by one son, Larry E. Mox.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, the Rev. William Schultz officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Delphos.

Calling hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at Harter & Son Funeral Home, Delphos, and one hour prior to service time Saturday at the church.

Preferred memorial is American Cancer Society.

Violet Mae "Vi" Fulk
Died: Tuesday, March 18, 2003
Age: 89

PAULDING - Violet Mae "Vi" Fulk, 89, died at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2003, at Dallas Lamb Foundation Home, Payne, where she had been a resident for two years.

She was born May 10, 1913, in Tully Township, Van Wert County, the daughter of the late Kirk and Elva (Reed) Whitman. On May 5, 1930, she married Floyd A. Fulk, who preceded her in death on Oct. 1, 1951.

Mrs. Fulk was a cook at the former Paul & Millie's/Harry's Lunch/Jim & Jane's for 25 years.

Survivors include:

Sons -- William (Edna) Fulk of Paulding, Earl (Ruby) Fulk of Bryan, Tom Fulk of Defiance and Jim Fulk of Toledo

Daughters -- Joyce (Harold) Dangler of Bryan, Shirley (Paul) Cramer, Betty (John) Clark and Diane Foor, all of Paulding, and Nancy (Richard) Burditt of Hamilton, Ind.

Sister -- Helen MacDonald of Bluffton, Ind.

Twenty grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren also survive.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Wilma Jean Fulk; two brothers, Art and Lawrence Whitman; two sisters, Alice Corbin and Gertie Grace; four grandchildren, Jennifer, Billy, Randy and Rex, and one great-grandson, Mike.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at First Christian Church, Paulding, the Rev. Susan  Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Lehman Cemetery, Payne.

Calling hours are 2-9 p.m. Thursday and 8-9 a.m. Friday at Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding, and one hour prior to services Friday at the church.

OHIO CITY - Dick J Kraner
Died: Tuesday, December 10, 2002
Age: 76

OHIO CITY - Dick J. Kraner, 76, of Ohio City died at 9:11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002, at Van Wert County Hospital.

He was born March 12, 1926, in Jay County, Ind., the son of the late Gerald H. and Francis (Scott) Kraner. On Dec. 24, 1947, in Wren, he married Bessie Judge, who survives.

Mr. Kraner retired from Central Soya Co. in Decatur, Ind., after 34 years of service. He formerly owned the Industrial Supply Co. in Van Wert and the Glenmore Hobby Shop in Glenmore. He was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II.

Other survivors include:

Sons - Richard (Karen) Kraner of Willshire, Dennis (Carolyn) Kraner of Ohio City and Dan Kraner of Indianapolis, Ind.

Daughter - Dianna (Gary) May of Fort Wayne, Ind.

Brothers - Keith (Mary) Kraner, Tom (Barb) Kraner, Homer (Joy) Kraner, Max (Barb) Kraner, Don Kraner, Ron Kraner and Bill Kraner

Sisters - Marilyn (Harold) Clifton, Betty (DeLloyd) Swoveland and Norma (Tim) Krueckenberg

Eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren also survive.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home, Van Wert, the Rev. Paul Miller officiating. Burial will be held at a later date.

Calling hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

CECIL - Dale E Mitchell
Died: Tuesday, December 10, 2002
Age: 77

CECIL - Dale E. Mitchell, 77, died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002, at his brother's residence in Mark Center.

He was born March 21, 1925, in Emerald Township, Paulding County, the son of the late Chemin and Eva (Luderman) Mitchell.

Mr. Mitchell was a retired farmer.

Survivors include:

Brothers - Ralph Mitchell of Mark Center and Terry Mitchell of Cecil

Sister - Lois (Ralph) Head of Oakwood

Nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding, Briscoe Yoder officiating. Burial will be in Live Oak Cemetery, Paulding.

Calling hours are 11 a.m. to time of service Saturday at the funeral home.

DECATUR, Ind. - John H. Snyder
Died: Tuesday, December 10, 2002
Age: 58

DECATUR, Ind. - John H. Snyder, 58, of rural Decatur, died at 6:28 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002, at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, Ind., following a massive stroke.

He was born May 24, 1944, in Huntington, Ind., the son of Merle I. Frauhiger Lovellette of Decatur and the late Jim Lovellette. On Oct. 15, 1960, in Willshire, he married Darlene "Kay" Funk, who survives in Decatur.

Mr. Snyder retired in 1993 from International Harvester-Navistar with 30 years of service, Ideal Reality (maintenance) and currently owned and operated L&S Construction.

Other survivors include:

Sons - Brad Snyder of Floyds Knobs, Ind., and Gregg Snyder of Decatur

Daughter - Kim (Len) Eller of Rockford

Brother - Roger Snyder of Monroe, Ind.

Sisters - Carolyn (James) Baumer of Monroe and Debra (James) Thompson of Decatur

Half sister - Dawn Ellsworth of Huntington, Ind.

Half brother - Roy Snyder of Huntington

Stepbrothers - John Shoenaur of Springfield, Jack Shoenaur and Jerry Shoenaur, both of Middlebury, Ind., and Jim Shoenaur of Detroit, Mich.

Six grandchildren, Jeremy, Joshua, Jason Kennedy and Olivia Snyder of Floyds Knobs, Ind., and Abby and Evan Snyder of Decatur.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, the Revs. Barry Humble and Richard Sprunger officiating. Burial will be in Willshire Cemetery, Willshire.

Calling hours are 5-8 p.m. today and 2-4 and 5-8 p.m. Friday and an hour prior to services Saturday at the funeral home.

Calvin L Jacobs
Died: Monday, December 9, 2002
Age: 69

Calvin L. Jacobs, 69, of Van Wert died at 10:45 a.m. Monday, Dec. 9, 2002, at Van Wert County Hospital.

He was born Jan. 7, 1933, in Lakeview, the son of the late Arnold and Virgie (Davis) Jacobs.

On Feb. 14, 1986, he married Audrey E. (Dickson) Speakman Jacobs, who survives in Van Wert.

Mr. Jacobs retired in 1988 after 20 years at Chrysler Corp., Van Wert. A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, who served in Korea, he attended First United Methodist Church, Van Wert.

Other survivors include a daughter, Callie (Brent) Stripe of Van Wert; one stepson, Doug Speakman of Fort Wayne, Ind.; two stepdaughters, Shirley Couts of Van Wert and Karen (George) Morris of Clovis, Calif.; two sisters, Koneta Campbell of Wapakoneta and Betty Bishop of Zanesfield; one grandchild, Stacia Amber Stripe; 10 stepgrandchildren, and several stepgreat-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home, Van Wert, the Rev. Paul Miller officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert.

Calling hours are 2-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Preferred memorial is the First United Methodist Church Building Fund.
