CONVOY - Elton E. Wallis
Died: Wednesday, January 1, 2003
Age: 78
CONVOY - Elton E. Wallis, 78, of rural Convoy died Wednesday morning, Jan. 1, 2003, at his residence.
He was born Aug. 2, 1924, in Van Wert County, the son of the late Charles Emery and Nila (Robinson) Wallis. On Sept. 5, 1944, in Gulf Port, Miss., he married Erma Oeschle, who survives.
Mr. Wallis was a lifetime farmer, then retired as the postmaster from the Convoy Post Office after 24 years. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.

Sons - Robert (Diana) Wallis and David (Kim) Wallis, both of Convoy
Daughter - Peggy Sue Wallis of Convoy
Sister - Eileen (Robert) Dailey of Convoy
Fifteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Gearhart, Mack & Jurczyk Funeral Home, Convoy, the Rev. Gerald Baker officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert.
Calling hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Juanita M Wermer
Died: Wednesday, January 1, 2003
Age: 88
Juanita M. Wermer, 88, of Van Wert died at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2003, at Van Wert County Hospital, Van Wert.
She was born March 17, 1914, in Van Wert, the daughter of the late Alfred and Ethel (Shaw) Robeson. On Sept. 4, 1954, she married Glenn E. Wermer, who survives in Van Wert.
Mrs. Wermer formerly worked at Marsh Foundation, Van Wert, and for many years at Continental Can Co., Van Wert.
Other survivors include:
Sisters - Marie (Bernard) Miller of Van Wert and Kathryn Atkison of Napoleon.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home, the Rev. Ronald Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery.
Calling hours are noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Maxine Moser
Died: Tuesday, December 31, 2002
Age: 83
DECATUR, Ind. - Maxine L. Moser, 83, of Decatur, formerly of Wren, died unexpectedly early Tuesday morning, Dec. 31, 2002, at her residence.
She was born Nov. 3, 1919, in Van Buren, Ind., the daughter of the late Mahlon D. and Mildred G. (Beal) Brown. Her first husband, John A. Baumann, preceded her in death. She married her second husband, Jason L. "Jay" Moser on April 18, 1979. He preceded her in death on July 11, 1998.
Mrs. Moser was a homemaker and had also worked at the Kroger grocery store in Decatur for 27 1/2 years.
Survivors include:
Daughters - Sandra Baumann of Muncie, Ind., Anne (William) Downs of Warrensburg, Mo., Jill (Dick) Bowen of Wren and Jayne (Jim) Moser Miller of Butler
Brothers - Robert Brown of Van Buren and Marvin Brown of Valparaiso, Ind., Carl Brown of Largo, Fla., and Larry Brown of Nineveh, Ind.
Sisters - Helen (Richard) Schnitz of Decatur, Doris Alexander of Franklin, Ind., Linda (Jerry) Higgins of Plano, Texas, and Judith (Phillip) Hoopingarner of New Haven, Ind.
Five step grandchildren and six stepgreat-grandchildren also survive.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Bertha J. Malson, one brother, Harold D. Brown, and a stepgrandson, Ric Bowen.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul United Church of Christ in rural Van Wert, the Rev. Jerry Flueckiger officiating. Burial will be in Evangelical Protestant Cemetery, rural Van Wert.
Calling hours are 2-8 p.m. Friday at Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, and an hour prior to services Saturday at the church.
Pauline Remington
Died: Tuesday, December 31, 2002
Age: 74
LODI - Pauline Remington, 74, of Lodi died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2002, at Evergreen Care Center in Medina where she had resided for the past four years.
She was born Aug. 28, 1928, in Biddeford, Maine, the daughter of the late Laurence and Alice Johnson Roussin. On April 16, 1950, she married Robert Remington, who survives in Washington, D.C.
Mrs. Remington had worked at Westfield Insurance Companies in the Subrogation Claims Dept.

Children - Christine (Ronald) Weiser and Scott (Regina) Remington, both of West Salem, William (Lynn) Remington of Lafayette, Ohio, Patricia (Brian) Kinzie of Van Wert and Peter Remington of Lodi
Eight grandchildren and one great-grandson also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003, at Parker & Son Funeral Home, 210 Medina St., Lodi, Jerry Roth officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Lodi.
Calling hours are 7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
DELPHOS - William R. Bowden
Died: Monday, December 30, 2002
Age: 76
DELPHOS - William R. Bowden, 76, died at 7:21 a.m. Monday, Dec. 30, 2002, at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima.
He was born Dec. 18, 1926, in Lima, the son of the late Forest and Malinda (Wooten) Bowden. He married Eloise Marshel, who preceded him in death on June 9, 1972. On March 14, 1973, he married Lucille (Calvelage) Maas, who survives in Delphos.
Mr. Bowden retired from the Ford Motor Company in 1989 after 32 1/2 years. After his retirement from Ford, he worked at Eagle Print, Delphos, then started his own pallet company. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving from 1944-47, served in the National Guard from 1947-52 and was called into the U.S. Army from 1952-53 during the
Korean War.

Stepsons - Mark Maas and Timothy (Kris) Maas, both of Fort Jennings, and Robert (Sally) Maas of St. Marys
Stepdaughters - Diana Hile of Napoleon, Katherine (David) Powers of Louisburg, Pa., and Agnes Maas and Barbara Truesdale, both of Delphos
Brother -+ Edward (Joyce) Bowden of Lima
Twenty-three stepgrandchildren and 20 stepgreat-grandchildren also survive.
He was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Carol (Maas) Green Seibert, a stepgrandson, Darrel Green, and one brother, Wendle Bowden.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Delphos, the Rev. Vincent Hoying officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.
Calling hours are 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at Harter & Son Funeral Home, Delphos, where a rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. and a parish wake at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
MENDON - Larry Joe Hesse
Died: Monday, December 30, 2002
Age: 68
MENDON - Larry Joe Hesse, 68, of Mendon, died at 8 a.m. Monday, Dec. 30, 2002, at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, Ind.
He was born Oct. 4, 1934, in Auglaize County, the son of the late Russel and Irene Casperson Hesse. On June 19, 1954, he married Virginia Boroff, who survives in Mendon.
Mr. Hesse, a lifelong dairy farmer, was also a seed dealer for DeKalb-Monsanto and Seed Consultant. A 1952 graduate of Mendon Union High School, he attended Ohio State University, served 20 years on the Mendon Union Board of Education, served on the Salem Township Zoning Board and was a member of Hamilton Bethel United Methodist Church.
Other survivors include two sons, Randy (Robin) Hesse of Canal Winchester and Rick (Peg) Hesse of Mendon; one daughter, Teri (James) Ross of Celina, and six grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Cisco Funeral Home, Celina, the Rev. Dr. Paul Bunnell officiating. Burial will be in Hamilton Bethel Cemetery.
Calling hours are 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Carl R. Young
Died: Monday, December 30, 2002
Age: 88
PAYNE - Carl R. Young, 88, of Payne died at 7:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 30, 2002, at Parkview Memorial Hospital, Fort Wayne, Ind.
He was born March 28, 1914, in Payne, the son of the late James and Edna (Peterson) Young. His wife, Helen, preceded him in death in 1995.
Mr. Young was a retired dairy farmer.
Survivors include:
Sons - Richard Young of New Haven, Ind., and William Young of Payne
Daughters - Patricia Gray and Sally Young, both of Payne, and Martha Jenkins of New Haven
Brother - Jefferson Young of Fort Wayne
Five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Payne Church of Christ, Payne, Richard Phelan officiating. Burial will be in Lehman Cemetery, Payne.
