Helen E. Miles
Helen E. Miles, 99, of Zanesville, Ohio,died at 6:10 a.m. Thursday, January 30, 2003 on her ninty ninth birthday at the Genesis Hospice- Morrison House. She was born January 30, 1904 in Terra Alta, W. VA. the daughter of the late John J. & Arminta Alice Brahm Messenger. Mrs. Miles had been a Zanesville resident since 1931 and was a member of the Euclid Ave. United Methodist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Donna Kaye (Mark) Macola of  Jackson CA., three sons, Joseph H.(Jane )Miles, Robert T. (Louella) Miles, and Harold W. (Anita ) Miles, all of Zanesville, nine grandchildren,twelve great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Collie T. Miles, who died July 30, 1981,one daughter Betty Ann Erwine Pappas, who died April 1996, one granddaughter, Nancy Elliott, four sisters & three brothers.

Friends may call 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, February 2, 2003 at Bolin Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, February 3, 2003 at the funeral home with the Rev. Clarence Dinnen officiating. Burial will follow at Zanesville Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Euclid Ave United Methodist Church or to Genesis Hospice- Morrison House.

Oral F. ( Bunk ) Miller
Oral F. ( Bunk ) Miller, 90 of Zanesville, Ohio, died at 8:25 a.m. Tuesday, January 28, 2003 at Sunnyview Nursing Home. He was born April 16, 1912, in Zanesville, the son of the late Archie O. & Minnie McQuigg Miller. Mr. Miller was a retired mould maker at Brockway Glass, a member of the Brockway Glass Camping Club, a member of the Brockway Retiree's Club, and a member of the Nashport-Irville United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his wife Faye Cohagan-Miller, whom he married September 7, 1986, son F. Eugene (Gene) (Saundra) Miller of Nashport, step-daughter, Janice (Robert) Harlan of Zanesville, step-son, Conrad Pinkerton of TX, sister, Freda Boney of Nashport, two brothers, Bernard (Wilma) Miller and Forrest Miller, both of Zanesville, three grandchildren, Randall Miller, Rick Miller and Jennifer Hartley, ten great grandsons, one great great grandson, several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Mary E. Miller who died May 16, 1985 and two brothers, Harold Miller & Robert Miller.

Friends may call 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 p.m.Thursday, January 30, 2003 at Bolin Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville where services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday January 31, 2003 with Rev. Larry  Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Zanesville Memorial Park.

Robert L. Fleming
Robert L. Fleming, 78 of Zanesville, died at 6:30 p.m. Monday, January 27, 2003 at Genesis Hospice- Morrison House at Zanesville. He was born August 12, 1924 at Crooksville, Ohio a son of the late Oscar & Lilly Dell McDonald Fleming. He was a member of South Zanesville Church of the Nazarene, had worked for Mosiac Tile for many years and retired from General Electric in New Concord. He was a World War II Army Veteran and he loved to garden.

Surviving are a son, Daniel ( Gloria ) Fleming of Nashport, three grandchildren, Heather Trueblood and fiancee Harve Pettigrew of Brownsville, Leah ( Dennis) Adam of Granville, Robert D. Fleming & Fiancee Courtney Cruse of Westerville; four great grandchildren, Joshua, Tyler, Emily, & Matthew; brother, Herbert C. ( Melba) Fleming of Benton, AK; two sisters, Ann Adams of Youngstown, Garnet Chaloupka of Wilbur, NE; many nieces & nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine B. Smith Fleming Who died July 16, 2001, three brothers, Russell, Paul, & Shelley Fleming; sister Hazel Paxson.

Friends may call 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Thursday, January 30, 2003 at Bolin Funeral Home,1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville, where services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 31, 2003 with Rev. Richard D. Thompson officiating.Burial will follow at Zanesville Memorial Park.

Joseph L. Short
Joseph L. Short, 41, of Zanesville, Ohio, died at 2:18 a.m. Sunday, January 26, 2003 at his residence. He was born August 17, 1961, in Zanesville, the son of Betty Chandler Short and the late Elroy (Shine) Short. Mr. Short was a self employed carpenter.

Surviving is his mother, Betty Chandler Short of Zanesville, two sisters, Nancy Stamets of Massillon, and Judy (Larry) Bryan of Bolivar,one brother Thomas E. Short of Zanesville, several nieces and nephews including a special nephew, Shawn Short.

Friends may call 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, January 28, 2003 at Bolin Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville. Funeral services will be held at Bolin Funeral Home at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 29, 2002, with the Rev. John Earhart officiating. Burial will follow at Zanesville Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Dorothy Karen Markel

Dorothy Karen Markel, age 87, of New Concord, Ohio, died at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 23, 2003, at Beckett House. She was born August 23, 1915 in Carnegie PA, the daughter of the late Oscar Karl & Roberta Matison. Mrs. Markel was a former salesperson and seamstress for the Carter Fur Shop, a member of the Central Presbyterian Church, a lifetime member of the VFW George Selsam Post 1058 Auxiliary and served as a presiding judge at the voting poles for the Republican Party for many years.

Surviving are a daughter, Roberta E. (William) Fortner of Zanesville, four sons, Donald L. (Sue) Matison of Republic, MO, David E. (Janice) Markel of Williamston N. C.,Wayne E. (Susie) Markel of Hampton, VA., and James E.(Jolinda) Markel of Cambridge, fifteen grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry E. Markel who died May 25, 1991 and by a brother Carl (Bud) Matison).

Friends may call 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, January 26, 2003, at Bolin Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue Zanesville. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 27, 2003, at Bolin Funeral Home with the Rev. Ray Morrison officiating. Burial will follow at Zanesville Memorial Park.

Ann Stubbins

Ann Stubbins, age 76, of Zanesville, Ohio, formally of Harding Rd., Zanesville, died at 7:25 PM Tuesday, January 21, 2003, at the Inn at North Hills. She was born January 30,1926 in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of the late Shirley and Margaret Roekel Allan. Mrs. Stubbins operated from her home the "The Little Shop", a miniture doll house supply store, and was a member of the Zanesville Country Club, member of the Beaux Arts, member of the Green Thumb Garden Club, served as Past President of the Authors Club, served on the Board of the Zanesville Day Nursery, and graduated from Smith College (1948).

Surviving are her husband Attorney James B. Stubbins of Zanesville, two sons, Attorney Brent A. (Susan) Stubbins and Attorney Mark W. (Kay) Stubbins both of Zanesville, six grandchildren, Elizabeth, James, Grant, Kara, Amanda and Blake Stubbins.

Friends may call 4:00 to 6:00 PM Friday, January 24, 2003, at the Bolin Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 25, 2003, at the Zanesville Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers,the family prefers memorial contributions may be made the Zanesville Art Center Building Fund.

Gertrude P. Amore Shackelford
Gertrude P. Amore Shackelford, of Zanesville, Ohio, passed away at 11:50 p.m. Monday, January 20, 2003 at the Genesis Hospice, Morrison House. She was born in Roscoe Ohio, the daughter of the late Lloyd W. & Ella M. House Amore. Mrs. Shackelford was a retired sales professional at Robert Halls, Vans, and the Beverly Shop. During World War II she worked on B52 bombers at Phoenix AZ..

Surviving is one daughter; June E. Braden of Zanesville; one son Robert W. Shackelford of Zanesville; five grandchildren; Cynthia Braden Hagan, Douglas Braden, Steven, Robert and Jeffrey Shackelford, and twelve great grandchildren.

No calling hours will be observed. Private funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 23, 2003 at Bolin Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville with Major Leslie Walter of the Salvation Army officiating. Burial will follow at Zanesville Memorial Park.

Robert L. Owen
Robert L. Owen, 74 of Zanesville, gave the gift of life as a organ donor. He died at 9:47 a.m. Monday, January 20, 2003 at Riverside Hospital. He was born August 23, 1928 at Seattle, Washington a son of the late Lawerence L. Owen and Maybelle M. Spong Owen.

Surviving are three sons; Chris ( Debby) Owen of Columbus, Georgia, Scott (Anita) Owen of Zanesville, and Matt Owen of Columbus, Ohio; five grandchildren and one brother; Steve Owen.
He was preceded in death in addition to his parents, by his wife, Pella ( Peggy) Owen who died February 4, 1993, and one sister Mary Jorgunsen.

No calling hours or services will be observed. A caring cremation has taken place. Bolin Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville entrusted with arrangements.

Ralph Edward Frick

Ralph Edward Frick,82, of Zanesville, Ohio, died at 10:05 a.m. Sunday, January 19, 2003 at Genesis Bethesda Hospital. He was born March 3, 1920 in Zanesville, the son of the late Edward F. & Opal McConaha Frick.Mr. Frick was a retired farmer, a member of the Central Trinity United Methodist Church and an U.S. Army Veteran of World War II .

Surviving is his wife Ruth Ann Frick whom he Married Feb. 17, 1957 of the home, four daughters; Opal (Bryon) Wheeler of Zanesville, Pearl (Stephen) Carpenter of Somerset, Melody (Steven) Moore of Zanesville, and Verna (Michael) Heigley of Deavertown; nine grandchildren.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two daughters, one son, two sisters, Mildred Blackford and Ethel Frick and one brother Charles Frick.

Friends may call 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday January 21, 2003 at Bolin Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville where funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 22, 2003 at Bolin Funeral Home with the Rev. Tom England officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. VFW George Selsam Post 1058 will hold military services at the gravesite.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Central Trinity United Methodist Church.

Ronald E. Jennings

Ronald E. Jennings, 62 of Zanesville died at 9:40 p.m. Sunday, January 19, 2003 at The Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital, Columbus, Ohio. He was born April 13, 1940 in Zanesville a son of the late Alfred and Wilhelmina Leitner Jennings.He retired as a meatcutter for Krogers with 43 years of service. He was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church, member of Knights of Columbus Council # 505, enjoyed the outdoors while hunting and fishing and especially enjoyed his grandchildren.

Surviving is his wife, Barbara Bond Jennings, whom he married June 20, 1964, of the home, daughter, Jodi ( Doug) Pfeifer of Centerburg, Ohio; son, Jay ( Lynn) Jennings of Newark; five grandchildren;  Taylor & Lauren Pfeifer, Triplets, Carson, Clayton, and Makenna Jennings.

He was preceded in death in addition to his parents, by one brother, Bud Jennings.

Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, January 22, 2003 at Bolin Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 23, 2003 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church with Father James Csaszar as celebrant. Burial will follow at Mt. Olive Cemetery, Zanesville.

Flora B. Nelson
Flora B. Nelson, 75 of South Zanesville, died at 5:50 a.m. Friday, January 17, 2003 at Adams Lane Care Center. She was born December 3, 1927 at South Zanesville, Ohio a daughter of the late Grover Cleveland and Eliza Jane Spires Talbert. She was a baptist by faith.

Surviving is one son, Terry Lee Nelson of South Zanesville, two daughters; Barbara Anders and Patricia Kay Dilley, both of Philo, Ohio; sister; Norma Jean Reynolds of Zanesville, ten grandchildren, twenty one great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death in addition to her parents, her husband, Gerald Edward Nelson, who died March 11, 1983 and five sisters.

Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Monday, January 20, 2003 at Bolin Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville where services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 21, 2003 with Rev. Mark Hina officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Zanesville.
