Leland White, WWII vet, hospital CEO
Leland E. White, the former administrator and chief executive officer of Deaconess Hospital, died Friday at Wintersong Village in Delaware, Ohio. He was 82.
White served as the chief of the hospital from 1965 to 1987 after a career in the U.S. Navy. He served in the submarine service of the Navy for 26 years, leaving just before joining the staff at Deaconess.
White joined the Navy in 1939 and served on submarines through World War II before retiring as a lieutenant commander in the Navy's Medical Service Corps.
Survivors include his mother, Mary White ; a daughter, Carolyn Skinner; brothers, Carl White and Max White ; two grandsons and two great-grandsons. His wife, Muriel Lamb White, died in 1994.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Spring Grove Cemetery, Cincinnati. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Bennett Brown Rodman Funeral Home, Delaware.
