DYKES Julia A. Dykes, 83, of Thornville, formerly of Columbus, died at 6:40 a.m. Thursday, April 5, 2001 at Somerset Center. Julia was born June 19, 1917 in Charleston, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Edward Grant and Grace Angeline Gillispie Archibald. She was employed as a waitress in the Copper Kettle at Downtown Lazarus Annex for 29 years. Surviving are son, David R. (Pam) Dykes of Thornville; three grandchildren, Ed Dykes of the U.S. Marine Corps, Angela Dykes of Columbus and James DeWeese of Columbus; three great-grandchildren; one half sister, Lelia Eichenberger of Reynoldsburg; one brother, Keith Archibald of Whitehall; one sister-in-law, Robyn Semenchuk of Reynoldsburg. She is preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by her husband of over 40 years, whom she married July 8, 1938 Robert R. "Bob" Dykes (1977) and several brothers and sisters. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Friday, April 6, 2001 at the BOPE-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME in Somerset, where service will be held at 8 p.m. Friday evening with Pastor Bob Davis officiating. Graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 7, 2001 at Pleasant Cemetery in Mt. Sterling, Ohio.

GEORGE Sylvia Irene George, age 80, formerly of Columbus, Thursday at the daughter's residence in Galena, Past employee of Ranco Mfg. Preceded in death by husband Floyd, brothers Albert, Osby and Eddie Martin, sisters Louise Mitchell, Jaret Werry. Survived by daughter and son-in-law, Kaye and James B. Northrop, Galena; grandson, Stefan Northrop; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Kymberly Susan and Brent M. Shaw, Dublin; great-grandchildren, Jacob Alexander Iles-Shaw and Tyler Lucas Shaw; sisters, Edna Martin, Middleport, Oh., Carolyn Rummel, Connie Matthews, Janice Thompson; many nieces and nephews. Friends may call Friday 11 a.m. to 12 Noon, SHOEMAKER FUNERAL HOME, 2830 Cleveland Ave. at Lakeview Ave., where service will be held Friday 12 Noon. Interment Kingwood Memorial Gardens. GRIFFIN William F. Griffin, age 75, of Columbus, died Thursday, April 5, 2001 at home. Arrangements by RUTHERFORD-CORBIN FUNERAL HOME, WORTHINGTON CHAPEL, 515 High St., Worthington, OH. 43085.

HALL Paul E. Hall, age 72, of Columbus, died Tuesday, April 3, 2001 at Broadview Health Center. Survived by brother, Danny Hall and sister, Anna Sheldon. No services will be held. Arrangements by RUTHERFORD FUNERAL HOME, 2383 North High Street, Columbus, 299-1153.

HERRON Earl Herron, age 60, died April 4, 2001 at the residence. Retired from Abex Company. Member of the Southeast Conservation Club. Preceded in death by parents, sisters Kate and Lucille, brothers Lester and Harry. Survived by daughters, Sandra (Ward) Martin, Marcia (David) Long; grandchildren, Scott, Sarah, Andrew and Abby; great-grandson, Brian; brothers, James, Frank and Fredrick; several nieces, nephews and friends. Friends may call at JERRY SPEARS FUNERAL HOME, 2693 West Broad St. Friday 6-8 p.m., and after 10 a.m. Saturday where service will be held 11 a.m. Pastor Randy Todd officiating. HILL-OBRIEN Pamela S. Hill-OBrien, age 40, died April 2, 2001 at Grant Hospital. Arrangements being completed by the JERRY SPEARS FUNERAL HOME, 2693 West Broad St.

HOTCHKISS Lillian Eileen Hotchkiss, age 77, of Westerville, Tuesday, April 3, 2001 at O.S.U. Hospital East. Member of the Gahanna Community Congregational Church, Ida McKinley Chapter OES, Niles, Oh.; Bronwyn Welsh Club of Niles. She was a 1941 graduate of Niles McKinley High School; 1944 graduate of Baldwin Wallace College; Member of Phi Mu Sorority. Lillian taught Math and History for 24 years at Howland High School. She is also past President of the Columbus Women's Club. She is survived by husband of 48 years, Rev. Joe V. Hotchkiss; sister, Leah Schisler; nephews and nieces, Robert (Stacy) Hotchkiss, Sam Schisler, Tom (Susie) Schisler, Nancy Schisler and Lanet (David) Kubena; great-nephews and nieces, Andrew and Danielle Kubena, Laurin Schisler and Lee Schisler. Memorial Service 1 p.m. Saturday, April 7, 2001 at the Gahanna Community Congregational Church, 470 Havens Corners Road, Gahanna, Oh., where the family will receive friends from 12noon Saturday until Service. Pastor John Deuble and Dr. Roger Wagner officiating. Private family interment. In lieu of flowers, friends may contribute to the Memorial Fund of the Gahanna Community Congregational Church in Lillian's memory. HOUGLAND Louise Alice Hougland, age 87, of Westerville, died April 3, 2001 at Wesley Glen. She was the daughter of Ernest and Mary Hamann of Mattoon, IL. She was preceded in death by her husband James Hougland, parents, brothers and sisters. She is survived by sister, Loraine Meyer of Mattoon, IL; and nephews, Don Bariether and Charles Hamann; nieces, Lillian Parker, Eileen Hood, Irene Purcell, Barbara Osborne and Mary Louise Garretson. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Dublin, Oh. Funeral service will be at the Schilling Funeral Home in Mattoon, IL. Interment at Dodge Grove Cemetery, Mattoon, IL. Local arrangements by the HILL FUNERAL HOME, Westerville. Memorial contributions may be to the American Diabetes. Association, 937 High St. Worthington, OH 43085.

HOY (SHIVELY) Vivian M. Hoy (Shively), age 77, died Wednesday surrounded by her loving family. Member of Our Lady of Victory Parish, Altar & Rosary Society. member of Worthington Hills Country Club, Imperial Golf Club of Naples, Fla. and Franklin County Women's Golf Assoc. Survived by husband, Robert Hoy; children, Philip C. Shively, Steven D. (Joyce) Shively and Susan Mary (Michael) Windle; brothers, Henry DeMaria and James DeMaria; sister, Norma (Tony) Stratman; grandchildren, Alex and Jeff Shively, Luke Windle; step-daughters, Mary (Jim) Curran, Patricia (Tom) Young, Jean (Steve) Davis; step-sons, Daniel (Joan) Hoy and Tim Hoy; 16 step-grandchildren. Survived by daughter and son-in-law, Debi and Raymond Straight of Whitehall; son and daughter-in-law, David and Tina Kehlmeier of Canal Winchester; 1 granddaughter and 1 grandson; grandmother, Emma Kehlmeier of Florida; uncle, Melvin Moor of Gahanna. LANNING William S. Lanning, age 82 of Columbus died Wednesday, April 4, 2001 at Riverside Methodist Hospital. Retired from Cantwell Machinery Co. Preceded in death by sister, Margaret Garlinger and great-grandson, Connor Beery. Survived by wife, Mildred M. MADDY Lloyd Maddy Jr., age 70, of Columbus, died Wednesday, April 4, 2001 at Mt. Carmel East Hospital. Veteran U.S. Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. Member of Asbury United Methodist Church South, Carpenters Local #200, American Legion Post #0164, V.F.W. Post #8794 and the Polar Bear alumni association of North High School. Lloyd is preceded in death by wife Caroll; parents Harriett and Lloyd Maddy Sr. and is survived by his sons, Matt (Barb) Maddy and Mike Maddy; grandson, Michael; granddaughters, Ashley and Cayla; niece, Kelly and family and very special friend, Karol and her family. MARTIN John Edward "Jack" Martin, age 72, April 4, 2001 at Mt. Carmel East Medical Center after a brief illness. Formerly of Corning, Oh. Born on October 17, 1928 in Rendville, Oh. to his late Edward and Lucy (Radkoski) Martin. Retired coalminer from Peabody Coal Company, member of St. Bernard Catholic Church, Corning, F.O.E. Aerie #463, Corning and a Koren War veteran. Survived by wife of 38 years, Blanche Barrett Martin of the home; son, Jack  Johnson of Pickerington; sister, Rosalie Laird of Columbus; nephew, Glenn and Nancy Ryan of Chester, N.J.; granddaughter, Tracy Boyd of Pickerington; great-grandchildren, Jessika, Jackelyn and Jordan Boyd, all of Pickerington; granddaughters, Wendy and Michel Novotni of Baltimore; great-grandchildren, Zachary and Mitchell Novotni of Baltimore; sisters-in-law, Esther Garboline of Corning, Rose Hamrick of Corning, Irene (John) Toth of Corning, Mary Hettich of Corning; brother-in-law, James (Joann) Barrett of Columbus; sisters-in-law, Margaret (Walter) Mingus of Pickerington, Jean Morrow of Columbus; several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. MEEKS Ruby M. Meeks, age 75, of Columbus, Wednesday, April 4, 2001 at home. Widow of Robert Dale Meeks. Survived by daughter, Roberta and her husband, Danny; nephew, Jim (Annabeth) Gilmour; grandchildren, Rob, Mike, Dan Jr. and Selena; several great-grandchildren; brother, Clifford Messer; and sister, Glennie Fromm.
