Anita "LaRue" Ellard

Burial will follow at Weleetka Cemetery under the direction of Rice Funeral Service. Visitation will be Wed. from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. with family receiving visitors from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. LaRue passed away Sat. August 20, 2005. She was 72.

Born Dec. 24, 1932 in Grandfield, OK, to George and Mable Huffington Hollers, LaRue was reared and educated in her birth community, graduating from Grandfield High school in 1951. She continued her education by attending Oklahoma Baptist University.

On Sept. 26, 1953 LaRue and Elbert Leon "Bill" Ellard were married in a Henryetta ceremony. The young couple made their first home in Tulsa where Bill worked. Rogers County area became home for the Ellard family. And this quite rural setting was where all 3 Ellard boys grew up.

LaRue's first priority was serving the Lord and she took her Christian faith seriously. Throughout her years of service at Hilldale Baptist Church she taught numerous age groups in Sunday school, most recently an adult ladies class. She was involved with the WMU at the church level and also served at the associational level as a director. Vacation Bible School was another recipient of LaRue's help and organization as well. It seemed that any area that needed assistance, she was there ready to lend a helping hand. LaRue was the hostess of both wedding and baby showers for many of the young women in the church and community. Her gift of hospitality made it easy for her to arrange these events. Another area that benefited from her expertise was the Rogers County Election Board. She registered area voters and worked the precincts during elections.

When LaRue found time to relax, she loved to crochet and work on different craft projects. There may not be a person that ever associated with LaRue that does not have something that she made adorning their home. In the kitchen she was best known for her fried chicken, biscuits and gravy and roast--all were family favorites.

She was a big fan of the Dallas Cowboys, never missing a game on television. She even attended a few games in Irving as a result of the generosity of friends who knew of her passion for the Dallas Cowboys.

A wonderful mother, grandmother and friend, LaRue will be missed by all who knew her, but none as much as her beloved family which include her sons, Bert Ellard and his wife Kaylin of Bartlesville, Blake Ellard of Claremore and Bret Ellard and his wife Rhonda of Shawnee; her grandchildren, Joshua Ellard of Claremore, Zackary Ellard of Whiteman Air Force Base, Lisa Ellard also of Claremore and Ben Ellard also of Shawnee; her great-grandchildren, Caleb and Teah Ellard of Claremore and a host of many friends. LaRue was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bill and her sister Sue Glenn.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in LaRue's memory may be made to Baptist Children's Home of Oklahoma C/O Hilldale Baptist Church, 21085 S. Keetonville Road, Claremore, Oklahoma 74019.
