Donald W. “Don” Kriss

Age 67, Lawton, Services will be 1:30 PM Wednesday in the Becker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Irv Johnson, Chaplain, Hospice of Southwest Oklahoma, officiating.

Mr. Kriss died Friday at his residence.

Burial will be in the Highland Cemetery.

He was born on July 27, 1937 in Lawton to Harry V. and Frances L. (Gregston) Kriss. He graduated from Lawton High School in 1955. He attended Cameron University and then graduated from Weatherford State College, where he perfected his craft as a premier watch repairman and jeweler. He worked at Garber’s Jewelry, Trademark, and Rocket Pawn and Jewelry, before retiring. He was a member of the Apache Masonic Lodge #223 and a member of the Shrine Klowns.

Survivors include his mother of the home; a twin sister, Elaine Bivar of Lawton; a sister and brother-in-law, Dixie L. Hutchins and Howard of Punta Gorda, Florida; and numerous other nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his father.

Memorials contributions may be made to the Hospice of Southwest Oklahoma, PO Box 2074, Lawton, Oklahoma 73502.

Retired USAF Major Odell M. “Dell” Johnson

Age 72, Lawton, Memorial service will be 6:00 PM Friday, May 6, 2005 at the Holy Cross Lutheran Church with Rev. Don Howard, Pastor, and Vicar Joshua Schneider, officiating.

Major Johnson died Thursday, April 28, 2005 in Lawton.

Inurnment will be at the East Nidaros Lutheran Cemetery in Baltic, South Dakota at a later date.

Local arrangements are made by the Becker Funeral Home.

He was born on July 21, 1932 in Dell Rapids, South Dakota to Henry and Inez Johnson. He retired from the United States Air Force in 1980. He married Anne T. Berthold in Papillion, Nebraska on March 5, 1955. He was a member of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church and many other professional and fraternal organizations.

Survivors include his wife of the home; a daughter, Sandy Johnson of Rozet, Wyoming; three sons and daughters-in-law, Gary Johnson and Traci, of Boise, Idaho; Terence Johnson and Stephanie, of Fairfax, Virginia; and Jeff Johnson and Ying, of Las Cruces, New Mexico; and five grandchildren.

His parents preceded him in death.

Memorial contributions may be made to Odell M. and Anne T. Johnson Endowed Scholarship Fund, Texas A&M University, 505 George Bush Drive, College Station, Texas 77840 or to the Holy Cross Lutheran Church Building Fund.

Evelyn Chloe (Wood) Justus

Age 86, Lawton - Services will be 1:30 PM Tuesday in the Becker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Rev. Cliff Gravitt, Pastor, Northside Baptist Church, officiating.

Mrs. Justus died Saturday in a local hospital.

Burial will be in the Schofield Cemetery, south of Indiahoma.

She was born on June 4, 1919 in Clovis, New Mexico to Henry Horton Wood, Sr. and Allie Frances Vandevender. She married Robert Justus in Oklahoma in 1937. Mrs. Justus worked in the bomber factory in Frederick during World War II, until it closed. She then worked for civil service at Fort Sill, retiring after 38 years. She was a member of the Northside Baptist Church and the Business and Professional Women’s Club.

Survivors include her sister, Edna Myrl Wood Corbin of Cleveland, Georgia; two nieces, Linda Corbin of Oro Valley, Arizona and Sue Corbin of Cleveland, Georgia; a nephew, Douglas Corbin and his wife, Shirley, of Gainesville, Georgia; a great niece, Brittany Corbin Brady of Canton, Georgia; and numerous other cousins including Colleen and Joe Fischer, Jr. of Chattanooga, Oklahoma.

Her parents, husband and a brother, Henry Horton Wood, Jr., preceded her in death.

Alice Mae Hitt

Age 83, Lawton - Graveside service will be 2:30 p.m. Monday at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Rev. Jamie Powell, officiating.

Mrs. Hitt died Friday in Lawton.

Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of the Becker Funeral Home.

She was born June 1, 1922 in Santa Fe, Oklahoma, to John Henry and Lucy Littrell Roach. She grew up in Tipton, Oklahoma, where she attended school. She moved to Lawton at the age of sixteen and was married to Edwin Eugene Hitt on October 12, 1940. He preceded in her in death in 1987.

She worked as the manager for Del’s Drive Inn for over 20 years and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include a son and daughter in law, Cecil and Jeanne Hitt, Lawton; four daughters and sons in law, Anita Mann, Lawton, Dorothy and John Keene, Arlington, Texas, Wilma and Marc Strole, Elgin, and Beverly Hitt, Lawton; a sister in law, Josephine Hitt, Lawton; a brother in law, George Hitt, Geronimo; a niece, Pauline Miller and husband Johnny, Jacksonville, Arkansas; nine grandchildren, Damon, Daron and Brion Hitt, Mike Mann, Tonya Sue Howard, Mark Keene, Cristy Chancler, Mary Lynn Hatchett and Kacy Spivey; 12 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Her parents, five brothers, three sisters, and a son in law, Ronald Gene Mann, preceded her in death.

Richard Layne Hunt

Age 56, Apach - Services will be at 10:00 am Friday in the Becker Funeral Home of Fletcher Chapel (formerly Robbins Funeral Home) with Dr. Randy Robertson, Pastor of the First Baptist Church, Anadarko officiating.

Mr. Hunt died Saturday at his home.

Burial will be in the Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin, under the direction of Becker Funeral Home.

He was born February 6, 1950 in Lawton to Billy Richard and Lela M. (Nelson) Hunt. He served with the Marines during Vietnam, and was awarded two Purple Heart Medals, the Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnam Service Medal with one bronze star, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 device, Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation with cross of gallantry, the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

Survivors include two children, Jason Hunt and his wife Denise of Bartlett, IL and Courtney Jalomo and her husband Marcus of Quanah, TX. His mother, Lela Young of Apache, OK, two brothers, Gregg Hunt and his wife Cheri of Walters, OK and Harold Hunt and his wife Vicki of Sickles, OK. Four grandchildren, Sarah Hunt, Lauren Hunt, Avery Jalomo and Isaiah Jalomo.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Gerald W. High

Age 71, Lawton - Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday in the First Baptist Church, Sterling, with Brother Jack Pilgrim, pastor, officiating.

Mr. High died Wednesday at his residence.

Burial will be in the Sterling Cemetery under the direction of the Becker Funeral Home of Fletcher (formerly Robbins Funeral Home).

He was born May 23, 1935 in Sterling, Oklahoma, to Homer H. and Anna High. He grew up and graduated high school in Sterling. He was drafted into the U.S. Army on May 5, 1955 and was discharged on April 22, 1957. He married Jean Ann Yates on August 29, 1958 in Sterling. Early in his life he had worked as a carpenter and an electrical repairman before beginning a career in law enforcement. He worked for the City of Lawton as a police officer for twenty years and following his retirement he worked an additional ten years as a bailiff for the City of Lawton Municipal Court.

He attended the First Baptist Church of Sterling and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. He loved fishing, messing around in his shed and his beloved and faithful dog, Roxy.

He is survived by his wife, of the home; two daughters, Sherry Gibson and husband, Phillip, Sterling, and Mary Ann Webb, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Lindsay Salazar, Ben Gibson, Jessica Webb and Aubrey Webb; nieces and nephews, Lesa Pierce, Joe High, Connie Buettner and Paula Robertson; brothers in law and sisters in law, Bob and Peggy Whitlock, Fletcher, Jeff and Barbara Yates, Oklahoma City and Elaine Nix, Fletcher.

His brother, Robert Ray High, and a brother in law, Bruce Yates, preceded him in death.

Charles E. Cole, Jr.

Age 49, North of Lawton - Services will be 1:30 PM Monday in the Becker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Apostle James Newton, Another Chance Outreach Ministries, Inc., Lawton, and Paul Craig, Pastor, The Christian Center, officiating.

Mr. Cole died Wednesday at his home.

Interment will be in the Paradise Valley Cemetery, North of Lawton.

He was born on November 12, 1956 in Lawton to Charles E. Cole, Sr. and Faye Francis (Fletcher) Cole. He grew up in Lawton and graduated from Lawton High School. He worked for PSO and retired after more than 20 years.

Survivors include a daughter, Kelly Cole of Lawton; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert Cole and Debrah of Cache; five nephews, Christopher, Chase, Brandon, Justin and Wesley Cole; a sister-in-law, Candy Cole of Lawton; an uncle, Howard Cole and his wife, Lydia, of Lawton; two aunts, Betty Selvey and her husband, Paul, of Lawton and Mary Pointer and her husband, Roland, of Porter Hill; and other relatives and friends.

His parents and a brother, Harvey Brent Cole, preceded him in death.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Special Olympics, 3701 SE 15th Street #B-1, Del City, Oklahoma 73115.

Luella Mauree Hutson

Age 84, Lawton - Graveside service will be 1:00 pm Friday in the Highland Cemetery with Rev. Shelly Coulter, Associate Pastor, Centenary United Methodist Church, officiating.

Mrs. Hutson died Wednesday at her residence.

Services are under the direction of the Becker Funeral Home.

She was born on January 19, 1922 in Pawhuska, Oklahoma. She attended the Chilocco Indian School, the Genoa Indian School and graduated from St. Louis Indian School (Catholic Covenant School). She married Gilbert Hutson in September 1943 in Kaw City, Kansas. She was a homemaker and a seamstress and had worked for Raulston Furniture.

Survivors include her husband, of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Gilda Keith and Danny, Lawton; 2 grandchildren, Danny and Jesse Keith, both of Lawton; a brother-in-law, Fredrick Lucksted, Lawton and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Rose Fitzgerald, a sister, Carmen Lucksted and a niece, Sandra Lucksted.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society; 1320 NW Homestead Dr.; Lawton, Oklahoma 73505.
