Dorothy Louise Gilham
Dorothy Louise Gilham, 67, of Broken Arrow, Okla. will be held on Monday, Jan. 26, 1998 at 10 a.m. at the Park Grove Cemetery in Broken Arrow, Okla. with Bill Keele of the Broken Arrow Church of Christ officiating. Services and interment will be under the direction of Kennard Funeral Services.
Mrs. Gilham was born on Sept. 23, 1930 in Hackett, Ark. to Otis and Beaulah Ellen Woosley Key. She attended Cameron schools. She married Arley Gilham in Keota, Okla. She was retired from Tulsa Regional Medical Center. She was a member of the Broken Arrow Church of Christ. She was also a member of the Indian Springs Home League. Dorothy died on Jan. 21, 1998 at her residence in Broken Arrow, at the age of 67 years, 3 months, and 29 days.
She is survived by her husband, Arley Gilham of the home; daughters, Loretta James of Broken Arrow, Deborah Murphy of Tulsa; sons, Wayne Odom of Tulsa, Charles Odom of Locust Grove, Mitchell Odom of Broken Arrow; sisters, Letta Faye Selement of Greenville, Tex., Loretta Cain of Garland, Tex.; five grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank family and friends for everything, and a special thanks to Tony and Paula Kay Scott Masefield.

W.H. (Bill) Hope
W.H. (Bill) Hope, 80, of Poteau, OK, born Nov. 25, 1917 in Booneville, AR., died Sunday, Jan. 18, 1998 in Little Rock, AR. He was in Car Sales and a Cattle Rancher.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, 1998 at the First Baptist Church, Poteau with the Rev. Phil McGhee and Rev. Robert S. Jackson officiating with interment at the Oakland Cemetery, Poteau.
He is survived by his wife, Willene of the home; two brothers, Andrew H. Hope of Sand Springs, OK, and James G. Hope of Sallisaw; one sister, Alline M. Logan of Poteau; a number of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Hope was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in World War II. He retired from Douglas Aircraft and became a used car dealer and cattleman. He was a member of the Poteau Masonic Lodge #46 and Eastern Star Chapter 311. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Poteau. He was a preceded in death by his parents, Dan and Pernie Hope, one sister, Arlene Burden, and one brother, J.D. Hope, Jr.
Services under direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home, Poteau.

Beulah Lowe
Beulah Lowe, 99, of Heavener, Okla., died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 1998 in a Poteau hospital, she was a longtime resident of Heavener, member of the First Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, 1998 at the Dowden Funeral Home Chapel under the direction of Dowden Funeral Home, Heavener.
She is survived by two daughters, Shirley Newberry of Dallas, Tex. and Wanda McCarmick of Stockton, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Clark McClain
Clark McClain, 83 of Heavener, Okla., died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 1998 in a Heavener Nursing Home, he was a lifelong resident of Heavener, member of the Forrester Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, 1998 at the Dowden Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Memorial Park of Heavener under the direction of the Dowden Funeral Home.
He is survived by his daughter, Christine Ritter of Howe; one step-daughter, Sammie Jordan of Poteau; four sons, Bill of North Charleston, SC, Jerry of South San Francisco, CA, Merle and Edd both of Heavener; two step-sons, Charles Paluso of Altus, OK, Jack Paluso of Herminston, OR; one sister, Faye Booth of Sacramento, CA; two brothers, Olen and Lewis McClain of Sacramento; one aunt, Myrtle Yates of Heavener; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Summer Rose Vanmeter
Summer Rose Van Meter, 16 months old, of Shady Point, OK was born August 29, 1996 in Poteau. Summer Rose passed away Thursday, Jan. 15, 1998 in a St. Francis Hospital, Tulsa, OK.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 19, 1998 at the Calhoun Baptist Church with the Rev. Steve Hughes following interment at the Shady Point Cemetery.
She is survived by her parents, Russell and Linda Vanmeter of Shady Point; sisters, Janessa and Leslie Vincent of Shady Point; maternal grandparents, Jim and Janice Scroggins of Shady Point; paternal grandparents, Fred and Faye Vanmeter of Arkoma, Reese and Bill Cuff of Pendleton, OR; great-grandmothers, Rosie Vanmeter of Muldrow, Ida Mae Scroggins of Poteau, Victoria Lawson of Shady Point; great-grandfather, Floyd Vanmeter of Flower Hill, OK, Godfather, Gary Satterfield of Pocola; several aunts and uncles, numerous other relatives and loved ones and a host of friends.
Summer touched many hearts in a short time.
Pallbearers: Alvin and Gary Satterfield.
Honorary Pallbearers: Roy Scroggins, Mitch McKee, James Bise.
Family visitation will be Sunday, January 18, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Arrangements under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home, Poteau.

Willie Perry Akins

Willie Perry Akins, 89, of Poteau, passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2002. He was born March 20, 1912 in Foreman, Ark. to James and Maude (Clark) Akins.

He was self-employed.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sisters, Annie Mae Akins and Lovie Carrol.

Survivors include his wife Edna Estep Akins of the home; five children, Doris Maddox of Poteau, Marie Akins, Esther and Warren Miller of Cameron, Alvin Akins of Shady Point and Wilma and Jim Graham of Shady Point; 12 grandchildren, Jeanette, James, Stella, Patricia, Larry, Bobby, Rachel, Rebekah, Joel, Jim, Delainya and Billy; 18 great-grandchildren; one sister, Dovie Estep of Shady Point; two brothers, Johnny Akins and Cecil Akins, both of Foreman, Ark.; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins; other relatives and loved ones; and a host of beloved friends.

The family will be meeting friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 14.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday, March 15 at First Assembly of God Church in Poteau with the Revs. Keith Williams and Joe Owen officiating. Burial will follow in Shady Point Cemetery under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau.

Nita Leora McConnell

Nita Leora McConnell, 75, of Alma, Ark. passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2002.

She was a retired bookkeeper for Glass Container Corp., a resident of Mountainburg, Ark. since 1968 and of the Methodist faith.

Survivors include two daughters, Sheena Medlock of Mountainburg and Mary Anne McWilliams of Tulsa; two sons, Larry Jacomini of Van Cover, Wash and Chancey Lee Piercefield of the home; five grandchildren, Misty Auderer, Ashley Jacomini, Daniel J. Dominiquez Sr., Larry D. Jacomini Jr. and Michael L. Jacomini; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 1 in Ocker Chapel of Alma. Burial will follow in Gill Cemetery in Van Buren, Ark. under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Alma.

Pallbearers will be Gary Whigham, Paul McWilliams, Chancey Piercefield, Russell McConnell, Lewis McConnell Sr. and Lewis McConnell Jr.

Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Chowning, Charles Wilbourn, Roy Adams, Dustin Weeks, Dean Myers, Thell Morse and Daniel J. Dominiquez.

Linda Lou Dodd

Linda Lou Dodd, 55, of Poteau, passed away Thursday, Oct. 17, 2002. She was born Sept. 2, 1947 at Harrison, Ark. She was a member of Calvary Assembly of God Church of Poteau and was a beauty operator. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend. Her joy was to serve the Lord, her family and others. She lived in Arkansas for 2 to 3 years before moving to California where she graduated from high school in Santa Paula, then went on to graduate from beauty school. She and her husband David have resided in the Poteau area since moving here in 1977.

Survivors include her husband of the home; one daughter, Sara Dodd of Norman; two sons, Donald Dodd and Douglas Dodd, both of Poteau; her parents, Woodrow and Oma Gaines of Lead Hill, Ark.; one sister and brother-in-law, Diane and David Stines of Santa Paula; one brother, Dwayne Clark of Lead Hill; two grandsons, Ryan Dodd and Garrison Dodd, both of Poteau; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and loved ones; and a host of beloved friends.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 21 at Calvary Assembly of God Church in Poteau with the Rev. Kenneth Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Fairhill (Knothole) Cemetery at Cameron under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau.

Pallbearers will be Barry Flanagan, Chris Caldwell, Don Collins, Gary Furr Jr., James Cheely and Matt Owen.

Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Odom, Coy Smedley, Jim Holstead and Jim Phillips.

Joshua McClain Young

Joshua McClain Young, 26, of Skiatook, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002, in Destin, Fla. He was born May 14, 1976 at Joplin, Mo. He attended Poteau Public Schools through the 8th grade, Union High School in Tulsa in his freshman, sophomore and junior years, and was a member of the marching band Renegade Regiment on the drumline. He graduated from Poteau High School in 1994. Josh loved all kinds of music, from country to Broadway, rap to classical. He worked as a pharmacy technician with his father at Young's Drug Store in Poteau before moving to Skiatook and going to work for Kendall's Pharmacy in November. Josh and Catrina were married on Aug. 11, 2001 in Poteau.

Survivors include his wife Catrina of the home; his mother, Belinda Young of Oklahoma City; his father, Larry B. Young Jr. of Poteau; one sister and brother-in-law, Jennifer and Anthony Uro of Wilmington, Del.; his grandparents, Larry and Sue Young of Spiro and Deane Jones of Kalamazoo, Mich.; numerous cousins, aunts, uncles, other relatives and loved ones; and a large circle of wonderful friends.

Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10 at Immanuel Baptist Church in Poteau. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau.

Hazel Buttress

Hazel Buttress, 82, of Spiro, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, in Fort Smith. She was born Feb. 21, 1920 at Spiro to E.B. and Sarah (Lawson) Mahan. She was of the Assembly of God faith and a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Raymond; one sister, Naomi Black; and two brothers, Noah Mahan and Lincoln Mahan.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, David Buttress and LuJane of Arkoma; one sister, Flora Ferrell of Bokoshe; one brother, Frank Mahan of Woodstock, Ga.; grandchildren, Bo and Renea Buttress of Van Buren, Ark. and Jarrod Buttress of Arkoma; and one great-granddaughter, Addison Renea Buttress of Van Buren.

Family visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 7 at the Mallory Chapel with the Rev. O.M. Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in New Hope Cemetery under the direction of the Mallory Funeral Home of Spiro.

Paul Kissinger

Paul Kissinger, 77, of Pocola, passed away Monday, March 31, 2003, in Fort Smith, Ark. He was born March 27, 1926 at Cleveland, Ohio to Alvin and Emma (Juliret) Kissinger.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one granddaughter, Shelly Branch.

Survivors include his wife Elfred Nathalene; three daughters, Paulette Branch, Deborah Albert and Lisa Thompson and husband Michael, all of Pocola; four sons, David Kissinger and wife Marilyn of Spiro, Mark Kissinger of Pocola, Jared Kissinger of Poteau; and Jason Kissinger and wife Rachel of Fort Smith; three brothers, Roland Kissinger of Albion, Miss., Roger Kissinger of Pocola and Richard Kissinger of Aurora, Colo.; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will visit with friends Wednesday, April 2 from 5 to 7 p.m.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 3 at Mallory Chapel with the Rev. Fred Beesley officiating. Burial will follow in the Kissinger Family Cemetery under the direction of Mallory Funeral Home of Spiro.

Pallbearers will be Bryan Kissinger, Ryan Kissinger, Denny Dolan, Shannon Branch, Steven Baker and Craig Kissinger.

Honorary pallbearers will be Scott Goswick and W.G. White.

Mary Lou Brown

Mary Lou Brown, 72, of Oklahoma City, formerly of Howe, passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2003. She was a retired cafeteria worker and was of the Methodist faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ray; one sister; and three brothers.

Survivors include three daughters, Sandra Allen and Sheila Henry, both of Oklahoma City and Sherry Heflin of Heavener; three sons, Freddie Bennett of Panama, Mike Brown of Moore and Stephen Brown of Monticello, Ind.; 16 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 28 at Dowden Funeral Home Chapel in Heavener. Burial will follow in Howe Cemetery under the direction of Dowden Funeral Home of Heavener.

Leon Goodwin

Leon Goodwin, 62, of Cameron, passed away Saturday, March 29, 2003, in Fort Smith, Ark. He was born Dec. 5, 1940 at Cameron. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and retired from DeLaval (Turbine Mfg.)

Survivors include his wife Rose of the home; one daughter, Christine Edgell of Seaville, N.J.; one stepdaughter, Sharon Torpila of Hamilton, N.J.; three sons, Michael Goodwin and Timothy Goodwin, both of Ocean City, N.J., and Kevin Goodwin of Bordentown, N.J.; nine grandchildren; one nephew; two nieces; numerous cousins; other relatives and loved ones; and many beloved friends.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 2 at the Fairhill Cemetery Pavilion in Cameron with Wayne Burden and Kevin Fitzgerald officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau.

Pallbearers will be Roger Mays, Jimmy Hale, Eric Holton, Jackie Lomon, Jimmy Shirley and Troy Baggs.

Elba L. Rogers

Elba L. Rogers, 82, of Poteau, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2003. She was born Sept. 15, 1920 at Booneville, Ark. She was a member of the Poteau Church of Christ. She was a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend and was loved by all who knew her and was a fine Christian woman. She was a lifelong homemaker, friend to those in need and a great example to her family and friends. She was famous for being a great cook.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry T. Rogers; one daughter, Martha Rogers Thorpe; and her parents, William and Maude (Mullins) Ardis.

Survivors include two daughters, Paula Graham and husband Jim of Heavener and Glynda McDaniel and husband Jeff of Poteau; two sons, Val Rogers and wife Janice of Poteau andGary Rogers and wife Paula of Spiro; 8 grandsons; two granddaughters; seven great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and loved ones; and a host of beloved friends.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 8 at Poteau Church of Christ with Gary Vancil and Phil Powers officiating.

Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery in Poteau under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau.

Pallbearers will be Wes Pickle, Jim Estes, Tom Lum, Ron Lum, Randy Lum, Richard Hurlocker, Charles Hill, Bob Marchant, Earl Curry and Ted Knight.

Troy Roy Brown

Troy Roy Brown, 80, of Cameron, passed away Friday, Oct. 18, 2002, in Poteau. He was born May 20, 1922. He was a member of the Poteau Church of Christ and a leather worker.

Survivors include his Poteau Church of Christ family and friends.

Services were at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 21 at Poteau Church of Christ with Scott Martin officiating. Burial followed at Greenhill Cemetery in Cameron under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau.

Marvin Edward Haynes Sr.

Marvin Edward Haynes Sr., 60, of Denver, Colo., passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2002, in Aurora, Colo.

He was a former resident of Heavener, a member of the Chambers Road Baptist Church in Aurora, a member of the Christian Motorcycle Association and the Rocky Mountain Christian Riders Chapter and held a Doctorate of Divinity. He was a veteran of the Vietnam era.

Survivors include his wife Carolyn of the home; one daughter, Marshella Peterson and husband Charles of Aurora; one son, Jarrel Haynes and wife Michelle of Wichita, Kan.; three sisters, June Baker of Heavener, Judy Bata of Columbia, Mo. and Lanna Payne of German Town, Tenn.; two brothers, Tom Haynes of Olive Branch, Miss. and Glen Haynes of Caruthersville, Mo.; and two granddaughters, Dakota Lyne Peterson and Hayleigh Chrystine Peterson.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 13 at First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Big Creek Cemetery in Heavener under the direction of Dowden Funeral Home of Heavener.
