LUCY MAYDEAN HOWELL

Lucy Maydean (Marrs) Howell went to be with her Lord, Sunday morning, January l3, 2002. Maydean was born to Adam Asbury Marrs and Lucy Jane (Frisbie) Marrs, November 2, 1919 in Joplin, MO. She married Lawrence Howell on March 7, 1960 and helped him raise his three children, Larry Scott Howell, Sr., Deanna J. (Howell) Hurt, and Donna (Howell) Donathan.

Maydean graduated from Central High School in Oklahoma City and graduated from Cascade College in Portland, Oregon. She taught school for ten years in a small town outside of Astoria, Oregon. After becoming the wife of Lawrence Howell she taught in the Okmulgee Public School System for 20 years. She retired in 1980 from teaching at the Okmulgee Middle School.

Mrs. Lawrence Howell was a member of Northern Lights Tabernacle (formerly known as Northside Assembly of God). She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, June Howell.

Survivors include her husband, Mr. Lawrence Howell of the home, a son Larry Scott Howell, Sr., of Okmulgee, two daughters, Deanna June (Howell) Hurt of Okmulgee, and Donna Jean (Howell) Donathan of Henryetta, four brothers, George Marrs of Mountain Home, AR, Norman Marrs of Florida, Charles Marrs of Fresno, CA, and David Marrs of Hobbs, NM, a sister, Ruth Tessensohn of Phoenix, AZ, nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Casketbearers will be grandsons, John R. Hurt II, Larry Scott Howell, Jr., Ricky Tarkington, Luke and Casey Donathan.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 16, 2002 at the Northern Lights Tabernacle with Reverend Charles Capps and Reverend Allen Lewis officiating. Interment will follow in the Okmulgee Cemetery. Friends may visit the funeral home from 12-8 P.M. Tuesday and 8:30-11:30 Wednesday. Arrangements are under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee.

VIRGINIA CLAY

Virginia Chadwick Riffe Clay, 95 a resident of Tulsa, formerly of Okmulgee, died on Saturday, January 12, 2002 in Tulsa. She was born on Sunday November 18, 1906 in Rigley, Kentucky to Oscar H. And Dora (Blair) Riffe.

She married Hugh Clay in Carnegie, Oklahoma on September 21, 1930. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Okmulgee for 57 years and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She attended Southwestern State University and obtained her life certificate in Elementary education. She also attended East Central State University and earned her B.A., B.S. and Master's degree. She taught school for 40 years and was recognized as "Teacher of the Year". She enjoyed art, gardening and was a member of several gardening clubs. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter, Colleen Kellogg, one grandson, Brian Barnes, two sisters and three brothers.

Survivors include one son, Carl Clay and wife Julia of Tulsa; three daughters, Carolyn Hardy and husband Jack of Oklahoma City, Charlotte Van Sickle and husband Bill of Tulsa, and Cathryn McCool and husband Theo of Norman; three brothers, Homer Riffe of New York, NY., Bill Riffe of Oklahoma City, and Pete Riffe of Carnegie; nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.

Private family graveside services were held on Monday, Jan. 14, 2002 in the Okmulgee Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. with Dr. Dennis Taylor officiating.

THURMAN ASHLOCK

Thurman Ashlock, 48, died at his home on Saturday, January 12, after a battle with brain cancer. He was born Jan. 11, 1954.

He grew up in Okmulgee where he developed his passion for hunting and fishing. He received his marketing degree from the University of Central Oklahoma and worked in Lighting sales at Hunzicker Brothers for 24 years.

Survivors include his wife Cindy of the home in Edmond; children Chris, Chad and Cari of Edmond; his parents, Thurman and Queenie Ashlock of Tulsa; a sister, Terry Ganus of Tulsa and one granddaughter.

Services, under the direction of Matthews Funeral home of Edmond, will be held at 2:00p.m. Wednesday, January 16, at Henderson Hills Baptist Church (on Boulevard, between 15th and 33rd streets)

The family requests that donations may be made to Hospice of Oklahoma County.

JEWEL WALLACE STEVENS

Jewel Wallace Stevens, 87, died Jan. 14, 2002 at her home in Henryetta. She was born to Frank and Mellie Brison at Maud, Okla., in 1914.

She married Myron (Mann) Wallace in 1948. He preceded her in death on July 9, 1969. She then married Charlie Stevens on Sept. 26, 1979 and he preceded her in death on March 19, 1999.

Survivors include two sons, Glenn Nix and wife Wanda of Sapulpa and Terry Wallace of Henryetta; a daughter, Mary Sue Johnson and husband Bill of Tiger Mountain; a sister, Bonnie Reed of Schulter; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2p.m., Wednesday, Jan.16, at the First Baptist Church in Dewar with Rev. Jack Vance officiating. Burial will be at Westlawn Cemetery under direction of Shurden Funeral Home of Henryetta. Pallbearers will be Bill Johnson, Darin Johnson, Rusty Johnson, Mike Crabtree, Matt Crabtree, and Steven Nix.

JAMES ROBINSON SR.

James A. (Pete) Robinson SR., 63, of Kansas City, Mo., died Jan.9, 2002 . He was born Sept. 30, 1938 in Okmulgee to Obzinder Reagor and Willie Robinson.

He grew up in Okmulgee and attended Dunbar High School and served in the United States Army. He was a barber and laborer and enjoyed fishing. He was preceded in death by his mother, two brothers, one sister and his first wife.

Survivors include his wife, Verlene Robinson of the home; two daughters, Elaine Robinson of Okmulgee and Obzinder Robinson of Oklahoma City; three sons, James Robinson Jr., of Okmulgee, Ricky Robinson of New Orleans, La., and Shawne Robinson of St. Louis, Mo; 11 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Willie Robinson and John Reagor, both of Tulsa; one sister, Delores Butler of Naperville, Ill.; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were at 11 a.m., Monday, Jan. 14, at Missionary Baptist Church in Kansas City, Mo., under direction of Ealey and Son Funeral Home.

Viewing and visitation will be Wednesday, Jan. 16, from 9 a.m., until 12 noon the Keith D. Biglow Funeral Directors of Okmulgee. Burial will follow in Our Lady Of Grace Cemetery.

MARTHA J. NULIK

Martha Jane Nulik, 81, died Monday January 7, 2002 in

Porterville, Calif. She was born on May 19, 1920 near Wilburton to Arthur Lee "Bud" Hurt and Julie Gibson Hurt. When Martha was 6 years old, her mother died and in 1927 Bud Hurt married Kathleen Rutherford. They raised their family in the Wilson Community. Martha attended school at Wilson and later moved to Modesto, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her mother Julie Hurt in 1926; a ten month old brother Arthur Lee Jr., in 1932; her twin sister Mary Jane in 1935; her first husband Jack Mercer in 1958; her father Bud Hurt in 1961; her second husband Thomas Nulik in 1978; her step-mother Kathleen Hurt in 1995; and a sister Geneva Gates in 2001.

Survivors include two sisters, Lily Mae Tracy of Los Banos, Calif., and Sue Barkley of Phoenix, Ariz.; five brothers, Rev. Clyde and Betty Hurt of Firebaugh, Calif.; Woodrow and Helen Hurt of Okmulgee; Bob and Mona Hurt of Mounds; Rev. J.D. Hurt of Fontana Calif.; and Rev. Bill and Ima Hurt of Lindsay, Calif.

Graveside services will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 14th, 2002 in Modesto under the direction of the Wells Funeral Home of Lindsay, Calif.

LILA FRANCES EARL

Lila Frances Earl, 80, of Okmulgee died Jan. 10, 2002 in Okmulgee. She was born March 12, 1921 in Kansas.

Arrangements are pending with Shurden-Kelley Funeral Home.

ROBERT MORALES

Robert Morales, 77, a resident of Okmulgee, died Monday, January 7, 2002 at his home. He was born on Friday, January 18, 1924 in Phoenix, Arizona.

He worked for American Can as a supervisor before his retirement. He married Ursala (Weinand) on November 2, 1985 in Las Vegas, Nev. He enjoyed wood working and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his mother and father and one sister.

Survivors include his wife Ursala of the home, two sons, David and Raymond Morales of California, one daughter, Lupe Meraz of California, one sister, Lilia Dancel of California; four stepchildren, Sandy Goodno, Bill Love and wife Kelly, Tony Love and and Denise McElhannon and husband Rick; and a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Memorial services are scheduled for Friday, January 11, 2002 at 2:00 p.m.in the Shurden-Kelley Chapel with Rev. Raymond Doke officiating.

MARTHA J. NULIK

REV. CLAUDE MALONE

Reverend Claude W. Malone, 87, of Tulsa, died January 6, 2002 in a Tulsa hospital. He was born on August 30, 1914 at Bald Hill, Oklahoma in Okmulgee County, the son of Aaron and Hattie (Lowery) Malone.

He grew up in Tulsa where he attended Booker T. Washington High School. He continued his education at Lane College In Jackson, Tennessee, where he earned a Masters Degree. He also studied at the University of Tulsa and Phillips School of Theology in Jackson. He served his country honorably in the United States Army, where he played in the 126th AGF band In Fort Mead, Maryland. He was also a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. He pastored churches in Tennessee and Oklahoma and was active in the Oklahoma-Muskogee C.M.E. church conference. He taught school in the Tulsa Public Schools, teaching Mathematics at Bell Junior High School and Carver Middle School before his retirement In 1986. He was an Associate Minister at Holsey Chapel C.M.E. Church in Tulsa. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, 2 sisters and a daughter.

Survivors include his devoted wife of 56 years Cecelia Malone of the home in Tulsa; his daughters, Connie Cleveland, Michelle Malone and Rochelle Malone, all of Tulsa; a special daughter, Linda Dennis, Tulsa, his sister, Mary Luster Carraway, Oakland, Calif., a sister in-law, Hester Malone, Tulsa, nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and a caravan of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services of Memory will be held on Friday, January 11, 2002 at 11 a.m., at Christ Temple Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, 2802 N. Lewis Avenue in Tulsa. Reverend Dr. R. P. Ashanti-Alexander, Pastor of Holsey Chapel Christian Methodist Episcopal Church will officiate and Rev. Pedro Givens, pastor of Wilson Chapel Christian Methodist Episcopal Church of Coweta, will give the Eulogy. Burial will follow in the Green Acres Memorial Gardens in Tulsa. Funeral services are under the direction of the Keith D. Biglow Funeral Director Inc., of Okmulgee.

For convenience, visitation will be on Thursday, January 10, from 1:00 until 6:00 p.m. at the Rose Hill Funeral Home in Tulsa. The steward board of Holsey Chapel will serve as casketbearers.

KATHERINE EUBANKS

Katherine L. Eubanks, 86, died January 6, 2002 in Wichita Falls, Texas. She was born March 6, 1915 in Halleyville, Okla., to William Lewis and Katherine (Walls) Lewis.

She was a homemaker and a very active member of the Henryetta First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Floyd Eubanks in 1999.

Survivors include a daughter, Joyce Poivre and husband Jimmy of Burkburnett, Texas; three grandchildren and a sister, Ethel Williams of Henryetta.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m., Wednesday at the Westlawn Cemetery in Henryetta with Rev. Jim Paslay officiating.

Arrangements were under direction of the Shurden Funeral Home of Henryetta.
